Sorry it's taken me so long! New post!
Draco growled.
Emily flinched.
Lucius smirked.
That’s how their fight was going. Draco was trying to make sure Emily didn’t get hurt, and instead of letting her defend herself from the curse Lucius was throwing at her, Draco intervened. She knew he was angry. She saw it in the way his eyes were narrowed and glaring fire, and in the way his nose flared and the knuckles gripping his wand were whiter than what was normal. They threw curse after curse at his father and yet, he still wouldn’t fall.
Emily watched in her peripheral vision as Sirius rammed into Dolohov and they started dueling. Her insides felt flimsy, like at any moment they would collapse. All they needed was the trigger. And that trigger was in her peripheral vision.
Since the battle began again after the Order had arrived, she hadn’t had time to talk to him, or even yell a few words. But she knew and so did Alicia, this would be their last chance. She and Alicia had been separated during the fight, but she knew she was around here somewhere, Jamie with her. She sent another stunner at her future father-in-law as she watched Harry yell,
“Petrificus Totalus!” and Dolohov froze once again, falling to the ground.
“Well, well, well, Draco, I thought I had taught you better than this… But evidently not,” Lucius sneered as he looked Emily up and down.
Draco growled again and Emily smiled a little.
“Stupefy!” Draco hissed and they both watched as Lucius flew backwards.
Emily ran toward Sirius, catching a glimpse of choppy black hair fighting with another Death Eater, Jamie at her side.
“Dad!” Emily shouted as she knocked him and Harry out of the way of a jet of green light. The curse narrowly missed Sirius and Emily’s eyes were already pooling with tears.
“Emily! Oh, thank God!” Sirius said in relief as he pulled her into a hug.
“I love you! You know that, right? I never meant any of that before! I was just upset,” Emily said frantically, trying to get it all out.
“I know, I know,” Sirius murmured in a soothing voice.
“I love you too,” he whispered as he kissed her hair.
They all turned to watch Tonks fall from halfway up the stone steps, her weak form tumbling down the steps. Bellatrix looked victorious as she ran back into the chaos of all the battles.
“Take the prophecy, grab Neville, round up the others, and run!” Sirius shouted to the two of them as he started after Bellatrix. Emily watched, in what seemed like slow motion, as Harry jumped toward Neville and Sirius ran off to what could be his death. Emily was right behind Sirius, yelling at him to stop. He yelled back for her to get out of here, but she wasn’t going to leave him.
“I’ll leave if you come with me!” she begged as they dodged another curse.
“No, I have to stay and fight! And you have to get out of here!” he shouted at her as he cupped one of her cheeks in his hand from the spot they were crouched down at.
“I love you, and I’ll be fine. Grab Draco, Alicia, and the others and leave,” Sirius said firmly. Just as Sirius said this, Draco dived to where they were, avoiding another curse.
“Ems, are you okay?” Draco asked as he straightened himself.
“Take her and get out of here!” Sirius yelled at Draco. Draco nodded once as he grabbed Emily’s hand firmly and started back for the door. She was yelling for him to stop, but he refused. He wanted to get her out of here and somewhere safe.
“Dad! Dad!” she chanted over and over as she tried to turn back. Another curse flew their way and Draco forced her down in the nick of time.
They heard someone yell,
“DUBBLEDORE!” and then the Death Eaters were scrambling around, trying to leave. Dumbledore had all of the Death Eaters grouped in the middle of the room now. Only one was still fighting. Bellatrix.
Emily didn’t turn to look at Dumbledore, though she felt the smallest relief in knowing he was here now. She watched as Sirius ducked a jet of red light from Bellatrix. Draco had her pinned in his arms, holding her tightly. Sirius was laughing.
She heard Sirius say,
“Come on, you can do better than that!” His voice echoed around the room before a second jet of light hit him in the chest. His eyes were still crinkled from laughter, his mouth still upturned, but his eyes—they were wide in shock.
Emily struggled more violently against Draco, yelling and screaming. Her tears flowed endlessly as she fought against him, watching as Sirius fell through the old doorway and disappeared behind the veil.
“I have to help him!” she cried desperately.
She accidently kicked Draco in the shin and his grip slackened slightly from the pain, and Emily got out of his embrace. She was running toward the arch as she felt everyone’s eyes on her. She knew Draco was right behind her, trying to grab her again.
“Dad!” she screamed as her hand reached out toward the arch. She felt like it was sucking her in, drawing her closer. Soon, her fingertips were in a swirl of fog, as if it were clenching her hand, bringing her farther in. Before she could go any farther, Draco’s body slammed into hers from the side, sending them both off the dais and crumpled on the floor. Draco grabbed her waist firmly and set her in his lap as he held her from behind, his arms pinning her arms to her side.
“No! Get off! I have to save him!” she screamed.
“…nothing…He’s gone,” Remus was telling Harry as he held the boy back.
She didn’t take notice to Bellatrix trying to flee or Harry going after her. She only stared at the arch, waiting for him to appear on the other side. But he never came and she knew that he never would.
It didn’t matter that she and Alicia knew it was going to happen. It didn’t matter that she had finally accepted that things happen and there’s no stopping it. None of it mattered as the trigger was pulled and her insides collapsed.
What do you think?
What now, Abi??
