Levi flipped through a large, rustic book, trying to find a picture that looked interesting. He was running out of things he wanted to draw so he figured he might as well use the encyclopedia for reference. He turned towards the back so he could find the index and squinted at the immense block of text. He couldn't read very well when he wasn't wearing his coke-bottle glasses but he figured he could suffer the blurry vision instead of looking like a dweeb. He didn't want to give anybody another reason to make fun of him.
He already fit the part of a street rat with his shabby robes, patched-up jeans, and his wild hair. Other students often stared at the boy, wondering if he lived in a cardboard box on a street somewhere but he tried not to let it bother him. Life was too short to let rumors affect you. He traced the word--basilisk and flipped to the page it was on. It was a perfectly frightening creature but that only further interested Levi. At least it was something new. |
