Braeden was ready to hear some long explanation about how he had somehow, without realizing, offended Evangeline in the short time he had known the girl. However, no words came after her initial 'because...'. The boy raised an eyebrow at her, half expectant and half puzzled. "Well?" he asked. "So it's because you're just naturally like that, isn't it?" asked the boy. He didn't sound accusatory or anything, though; just curious.
Evangeline looked at Braeden, for once the slightest bit unsure. She could come with an answer, or some sort of sarcastic comment. Or she could just say the truth, or some of it. Because an annoying voice in her head was telling her that being mean was a mask, and that she never let anyone see through it. "I'm nice upon occasion," she said. Sometimes more than often. "It's not that I'm always like that, but I try to usually act like that." She said, and almost the second she said it, she regretted it. Because she never told anyone anything remotely too personal for her liking, and she was even sure if it made sense. And if it did, if it would make sense to Braeden, or if he would just ask more questions.
