Non-magical devices cannot work in Hogwarts because all the magic in the air interferes with the electric current. There are so many protective spells and enchantments used on the castle alone that it is enough to cause interference. Then you add all the students practicing spells, the house elves performing all sorts of magic witches and wizards cannot, and well…I think you get what I am saying. Magic is temperamental by nature. Think about how often those staircases change! Non-magical technology is exactly the opposite. Like two forces of nature, order and chaos, one could assume imagine mix like oil and water."
