Mia put her bottle down onto the table. "Actually I was. Are you by any chance influencing the Professors on what they are teaching us this term?" She would go no further...yet. Ah, Gevrik had forgotten his mental note that children took sarcasm far too seriously. Miss Mia Gibbins seemed to be one sharp cookie. "Am I, personally, having an impact on the curricula at Hogwarts?" Ikenna raised a brow as he rephrased Mia's question.
It was a fair question. "Tell me what leads you to ask such a question and I will give you a straight answer, Mia." Quote:

"But sir, you could say that about every magical area. No disrespect but how are you going to protect an entire school? Or are you not alone?" He eyed the Hufflepuff girl's companion in a more challenging manner. "Matthias, I assure you that I am more than capable of protecting this entire school, village, and the inhabitants of both with my wand hand tied behind my back. Clearly your Minister of Magic agrees or I would not be here." Gevrik gave him a pointed look.
Surely, this boy was not seriously doubting his skills. "And as for your second question...you are going to have to be more specific. What do you mean by 'not alone'?" Quote:

"I'm Daddy's Little Girl through and through."
Anna, it seemed, was closer to their mother, while Sierra was closer to their father. Alex? Well, who knew how Alex felt. He was usually the Greingoth kind of out there marching to the beat of his own drum anyway.
Suddenly, she missed her father, and she found herself wishing Christmas break would come just a little sooner than usual. "All right," she confirmed with a nod. "Thanks, Mr. Gevrik." ...wow. Her opinion on this man had suddenly done a complete one eighty, eh? "That's good to hear, Sierra." Gevrik's tone warmed up considerably as he turned toward her. Run along now, good girl. "Any time. You and your brother may always stop by my office, of course. I am sure your father would not mind." Quote:

Ah, refreshing. At last. Quote:

A lot of odd things happen around Hogwarts all the time," he said, thinking about how he could turn this into a know-it-all comment. "Now that you mention it, the chair was pretty high. What do you suggest, Hogwarts conspiracy or dark magic?" he said smirking at mr Gevrik. "My point is, nothing in that seat killed me, and and I am still alive and unharmed. Just like my fellow students." Hugo took the last sip of butterbeer and moved a bit closer. "Is there a reason to be scared? Is there a reason there is 'potection' all of the sudden? I'd like to know, Mr Gevrik." "All right, Mr. Doyle, let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?" Ikenna set his firewhiskey down to deal with the demanding student before him. "As far as I understand, you are saying that as long as you are physically alive, perhaps even with all limbs attached, you are never in, nor have ever felt, danger?"
He did not bat so much as an eye as the nosy child moved closer. In fact, Gevrik himself leaned closer and locked eyes with Hugo Doyle as he spoke in a deeper tone. "I do believe you are forgetting the dangers of the mind, dear Hugo. Conspiracy theories usually have a basis in one fact or another, and of course, we can all think of those who will never allow dark magic to die. I will tell you now that everywhere you turn, whether you realise it or not, there are strong organisations and power structures in place that have sought to soil the minds and corrupt the souls of Hogwarts' best and brightest. For centuries, and as long as these structures have been in place, there have also been those working against such evils in the hopes of one day overthrowing such mainstream corruptors."
He settled back into his seat and calmly took a long drink. "It is up to you to decide which group I belong to and for which side I am securing Hogwarts...if I belong to any group at all."
Think deeply, Doyle, think deeply. Quote:

"Please, join me, my favourite potions mistress. Your presence can only enhance the party."
He winked over his shoulder and then signalled the bartender for two more firewhiskeys. Quote:

Chocolate was over there though... DILEMMA! "Professor Hadley, hello." The voice of the woman ordering the same drink, made Issy turn around and smile. Were they on first name terms? She wasn't entirely sure. But with the kids around best to stick to formality within ear shot. "I see a few children have made it so far," she commented, trying to start a conversation. When Ikenna joined them, she lifted her glass in thanks. A free drink was not something she was in the habit of turning down. "A few. Ha ha, acute observation." Ikenna turned his head to smile at Isabelle. "Isabelle, since I know you are new to Hogwarts as well, may I introduce to you one of the most accomplished potioneers of our time? Hecate Lafay. She can really do wonders in this world, much like yourself and your very important subject."
Transfiguration and potions. They could befriend each other, no? Quote:

And he knew her name. Just.. great. Then again she did have that badge, it was probably kind of obvious. "That's right" she replied, scanning her eyes around the pub before turning back to Gevrik. He was offering free firewhiskey for those of age? Well she WAS but whether she actually wanted to try it was another matter. The Slytherin followed him up to the bar however, keeping her distance of course, watching as others of age did so too. "Depends what your offering" Trixie replied raising an eyebrow. She was vegan, she wasn't up for Butterbeer either. Ikenna blinked and returned his face to its usual blank state. It did not escape his notice that she was doing the same. "Firewhiskey, of course, and perhaps some chocolate frogs as well. I assure you, all are free and none are tainted."
Obviously. This was almost a...school-sanctioned 'party.' Quote:

I am afraid I mostly rely on my friends' potion-making abilities." Gevrik warmed slightly to the Gryffindor as he felt no harm in sharing truthful...tidbits. "Muggle Studies is also an important class, would you agree? I hear it is somewhat...popular at Hogwarts..." Quote:

The second thanks was directed at Gevrik, and Jake looked in his direction as he said it. He'd forgotten about his sunglasses but would have been thankful for them had he remembered.
"Good... well... large turn-out."
Jake's discomfort was visible. Was so many people really so good? The young man took a sip of his drink. Tasted goooood. Ah, yes, honest Jake was right. And today he did not have his eyes shielded.
Progress? "Yes, such a population of people is almost...surprising, to me. I cannot say I dislike the turnout, however." Gevrik nodded at Jake and then politely turned his gaze out at the crowd instead of into the boy's nervous eyes. Quote:

And similar beliefs...he had no idea what THAT entailed either. Similar beliefs about what? Probably Slytherin. At least this man was still TALKING to him, even though it was clearly obvious that Alex was in Hufflepuff. So if he was all 'Slytherin is just the best house ever!' at least he had the manners to be polite to people who weren't sorted into that house. Thank GOODNESS. He'd had enough of that rudeness, that was for sure. "Ahh, ok. I know father used to work in the Ministry, and then took some time off and now he works at the Leaky Cauldron...makes sense," he muttered. Yeah, Gevrik probably knew him from his Ministry days. Being a Ministry official himself and all that. "Yes, I recall him from the Ministry. He is a man with good character, and you may tell him I said that." That was about all Gevrik was going to say about that. He nodded politely - Alex was a decent Hufflepuff, much like Jake - and then watched as Sierra pulled her brother in for conversation.
That was good, so long as they did not start squabbling again. Quote:

Getting up slowly and heading to the nicely decorated table, Preston grabbed a Butterbeer and a Chocolate Frog before he turned back and began to make his way to his seat that he hoped was still vacant and not taken by someone else. "Th-th-thank y-you s-sir." Preston said with a nod of his head and flashing one of his trademark goofy grins.
Once back at his seat, Preston sat there, desperately hoping someone he knew, or anyone for that matter would come near him so he wasn't alone. He wasn't for sure how this meet and greet was going to turn out. "You're welcome...." Gevrik murmured lazily in reply, watching the Hufflepuff stammering away, almost to himself. Quote:

She handed the package to Mr. Gevrik with a smile, "Hello, Mr. Gevrik! I brought these for you...kind of as a welcoming/good luck gift." she paused and glanced around, "I hope things are going great so far." she said as she reached for something to drink. "I hope I haven't missed anything...." she let her words trail off as she opened her bottle and took a quick sip. "Satine! So pleased you could make it." Gevrik accepted the candy gift with a very friendly grin and slid it onto the table with the chocolate frogs and butterbeers.
"It is an ongoing event, do not worry." He chuckled lightly and nodded toward where he had set the licorice wands. "Thank you for the candy, by the way. I do appreciate thoughtful students."
And this event had been...her suggestion, somewhat, so Ikenna owed her a thank-you for that too.
