"Occlumency is just as rare as Legilimency," she replied with a wink, before listening as he spoke of student issues. Nodding slightly at his explanation, a smile crept onto her face. "So another nickname then," she commented lightly. "At least nobody thinks you'd hold creatures hostage." She really was still amused that Ellie was that determined to not like her, but it remained a challenge to break through that wall. "Most unflattering things aren't directly said to our faces, I believe. probably out of fear of losing points," she observed. "But then some flattering comments aren't as well." That was somewhat of a different concept altogether, but the spectrum of thoughts she'd seen among the students when it came to herself was quite funny.
She raised an eyebrow at the lazily given diversion to the award conversation, however. "Oh? You've taken to conversing with deceased historical figures now?," she said back, teasing tone to her voice. Especially as it harkened back to their conversation about Euripides. She knew he was teasing her, and for now it wasn't that important to pry and get the actual answer. If he didn't want an extra set of eyes in his search, so be it. And it seemed he'd gone back to perusing the trophies anyhow, and she shrugged lightly as he spoke. "I've always been curious if, given quite a bit of exploration into the corners of this room, one could find awards going all the way back in history." Past recent historical times, at least, although she wasn't sure if there would be much from the beginnings of Hogwarts.
As he'd looked back up at her, she carefully let her eyes flicker to an expression of innocence, although a hint of sparkle remained. "Whyever would you think I'm hiding anything from you, Jared?," she asked, feigned lilt to her voice as she stood there, before she laughed lightly. There wasn't much she hadn't at least alluded to in their conversations, and she had a feeling his secrets were more intriguing than her own anyway. "But certainly not a skill that can't be learned," Jared said, as if finishing the sentence for her. "I've received more nicknames in a fortnight, than I did in the past ten years." His smile was light as the conversation returned to the topic of nicknames. And students. "Don't tell me, Renée, that you've been accused of holding a creature hostage." He'd like to know which student could come up with that. Then again, if he could be blamed for plans of treachery, Renée could be for kidnapping creatures. "I have a feeling students can hide the unflattering comments better than the flattering ones," Jared grinned. Even though he knew he'd not deduct points from a student for an 'unflattering' comment - as long as, of course, the student had a valid reason, an actual point, and did not make one just for the sake of being disrespectful - he could see why the students might think so. Not all teachers tolerate talk and discussion that labels them or their methods anything but good. Then again, as far as he and Renée were concerned, it was more the students misjudging them and forming all sorts of conspiracy theories, than anything else. Neither of them had been told they were incompetent and, frankly, Jared knew that neither of them were. They'd not have been at a school like Hogwarts, if they had been that. Incompetent. "Our talk about Euripides might have encouraged me to." He had that typical amused look in his green eyes now, the one that he had realized he often had around her. "That makes me curious too, actually." That in response to her comment about ancient awards. Curiosity had killed the cat, but he supposed the two of them did not have to worry about that, neither of them being a cat. "I can tell a thorough search of this room can have interesting outcomes." Names from history books, possibly printed on to a plaque or cup. "Because of that look you just gave me?" Jared asked, his own look of amusement giving way to warm laughter. |
