And then there was the part of him that was screaming against her words, asking her to stop talking about it. He hated to see her in such distress and then, he hated the topic of him leaving. But she was right about one thing, he was leaving and emotions meant little in the light of that. His voice came tight, not devoid of the pain of his own emotions, but also flat and somewhat dead. "I will not forget you, Lexi, so you can get that fool notion out of your head." His eyes found some pointless spot to stare off at over her shoulder. "And I wouldn't concern yourself over Arya and myself. You are right, I am leaving." So what did it matter? She was a beautiful girl and there would be some guy to sweep her off her feet.
Shaking his head a little, he forced his thoughts away from Arya and himself, knowing it would only hurt Lexi if he started on about that personal pain. "We will see each other again though. Promise."
Lexi gave a humorless chuckle and shook her head. "
You know... I was giving Neptune some unsolicited advice the other day. I told her that if she really and truly cared for someone that she needed to do whatever she could to make it work. I am such a hypocrite. Here I am letting go. Finally. Just letting all go. It makes me sad," she said in little more than a whisper.
"
I think my going to France would be best. Get an education there. Maybe I won't come back here. Ever," she said with a hint of excitement in her voice. If she could drag someone along with her that would be fabulous. She obviously couldn't whisk Sabel away though. Sadface. She didn't think Ivan would go... and she wasn't sure she wanted him to. It was all so odd.
"
What do you think about Salander? Have you ever met him?" she asked... yeah perhaps it was odd to him. But it was a natural progression for her.
