Default Review: Harry Potter: the Exhibition official guide book

The official exhibition guide for Harry Potter: the Exhibition, given out to those lucky Harry Potter fans who have gotten the chance to visit the museum display, is the perfect summary of the showcase. Introduced by none other than producer David Heyman, the guide goes in the exact order as that of the tour itself. It begins with the Hogwarts Express, which is the first grand prop feature once you enter the exhibition floor. Keep going further and you will find those moving photos displayed across the walls of Hogwarts castle and straight into the Gryffindor common room and various costumes from the first seven films.

While the exhibition only stays in a city for a few months, the guide is yours forever, so a fan will always have a rather colourful and vivid remembrance of the display. The book contains close-ups of Umbridge's office and stationery, various wand displays for major characters, countless props used throughout the film series, such as Hermione's time-turner and Lockhart's books and far-fetched exams. It's the kind of props that are blink-and-you-miss in the films, but are so well done and intricately made that it's rather alarming, especially since the average fan would never have noticed it. That's the beauty of seeing many of the props at the exhibition, because for those slightly mad die-hard Harry Potter fans, like yours truly, you want to see every little detail put into those props, especially the books and notes. Always wanted to see what exactly was written on Lockhart's exam and Umbridge's decrees? Well, there they are.

The guide is peppered with quotes from various crew members who have worked on the props, creatures, and costumes, including John Richardson, Pierre Bohanna, Miraphora Mina, Stephanie Mcmillan, Jany Temime, and Nick Dudman. The quotes give a bit of human voice to the book full of fabulous images and displays, which is a great extra feature.

The official guide for Harry Potter: the Exhibition can be purchased at the WBShop. For more information on the exhibition itself, feel free to read SnitchSeeker's account of the Seattle leg here.
