Truebridge glanced at Salander's work for a moment before addressing the class.

He stopped at the front of the room and faced the class.
"Some of you may have noticed some difficulties with carving, and there is one thing that will certainly help." One thing that he'd intentionally not mentioned because oftentimes it was easier to experience it than to hear it. "Carving against the wood is easier than carving with it. Carving against the wood also means that the cuts you make will not close up again over time, that is why the runes are made up of diagonal and vertical lines, as in general the surface used for carvings, one would place the grain on the horizontal in front of them." And most of them had done so while practicing without even realising it.
"Please keep this in mind as you start on the table, using whichever method you preferred. If you wish to practice some more then that is fine too."
ooc: now you can RP carving runes into the table, using either the Intaglio spell and your characters wand or with the Burin tool and a galdr. Have fun and don't get too crazy now, we're on the homestretch and we're entirely convinced Tate would be displeased at sudden, random or unfortunate death. 
Usually, Salander would prefer to the feel and use of muggle tools such as the burin, but after having tried out both techniques, he set the carving tool aside and picked up his wand. With a quick flick of his wrist he cleaned out his workspace, pushed his sleeves up a bit more and started to work on his part of the desk.
"Intaglio Tiwaz... tiwaz... tiwaz... tiwaz" he rumbled through, carving the vertical line of the Tiwaz rune. He then moved on to carving the "arrow head" part, chanting the same spell as he went.
When he was happy with how the Tiwaz rune came out, he looked at the runes list. One caught is eye-- the Sowilo rune.
"Energy and strength." he mumbled. Yeah definitely be needing this one for studying. Of course, the fact that the rune looked like an S
may have swayed him to pick this one out too heh.
He aimed his wand again at the space next to the Tiwaz carving and uttered
"Intaglio Sowilo... sowilo... sowilo..." Soon enough, the Sowilo rune started to form.
Alright, the third rune...
His eye caught the burin tool. He stared at it for a while before setting his wand aside and reached out for it. The Slytherin lad looked over the runes list again and read
"....reinforcement of other magics...". Reinforcement of the two existing runes that he's carved. Yeah he liked that.
He started to chant a different spell this time as he set the burin point against the wood grain....
"Isa Isa Isa
i i i i i i i i i
i i i i i i s s s s s s
(s s s s s s i i i i i i)
i i i i i i i i i"
He angled his head. The Isa rune, although already visible, didnt run as deep as the first two runes he carved with his wand. Frowning, he chanted the spell again and ran the bruin through the rune, deepening it. He had to do this a few more times before the rune began looking like the first two carvings beside it. He straightened up and squeezed the crick out of his neck. It was a good thing this rune was so simple. He would've hated to use the burin on something more complicated than a vertical line.
