Chapter One
Hidden

"You are a witch," She said to me hold tightly onto my shoulders and looking into my eyes.
"And you are crazy,"I said back at her. "Things like that just don't exist mum." At least for me they didn't, but here she was telling my I had magical powers. Okay, yeah and the Prime Minister could ride a flying carpet to all his meetings.
"Elizabeth Mae Jones. Listen to me. You have magical powers. Powers that you need to go and learn to control." My mother let go of me and paced to the window to look out it. She had an almost wistful look in her eyes as if she too could go to this magical school called Hogwarts.
"Okay look, mum, I'm going to go call dad. Maybe he can, I don't know, take you to the doctor." I turned and reached for the phone. As I began to dial the number it turned into a pillow and I dropped it as if it burned my hands.
I turned and looked at her. She had what looked like a stick in her hand and said very calmly,"You're going to Hogwarts, but first we need to get you some things, like a wand for example."
I was stunned. Eleven years. They hid magic from me for eleven years. I never knew that it existed and yet I lived in a house with a witch. She walked to me grabbed me by the arm and led me to the fireplace. "And there is no better way to get to Diagon Alley than by Floo Powder." She pulled a small bag out of her pocket and more or less shoved me into the fireplace. As she offered me some powder she said, "Just drop this and say Diagon Alley very clearly."
I rolled my eyes and said nothing. I had fallen into a stunned silence. I grabbed some of it and very clearly stated , "Diagon Alley." The fire sparked up and before I knew it i was spinning. Oh, it was so nauseating and I couldn't stand it. I closed my eyes tightly waiting for it all to stop. When it did I opened my eyes to see something that was most definitely not my living room at home but a shop.
"Welcome to Olivanders," A man said to me. He extended his hand in greeting, "I am Olivander."
With out thinking or asking questions I extended my hand to shake his and said, "Elizabeth Mae...Jones." I never added the Jones part unless absolutely necessary. Elizabeth Mae always sounded just fine to my eleven year old ears.
"Well Miss. Jones, why don't you walk over here with me and we will get you a wand and you can be on your way." He smiled and his blue eyes shined and set my defenses at low.
"Sure. I can do that," I said smiling. He pulled out boxes and I looked around the stunned silence befalling upon me yet again. It was as if I was in a dream. The store itself did not look to terribly big but it was stacked ceiling high with boxes in all sizes. As I looked back at the counter a hand extended a rather fancy looking stick. A wand.
I grasped it and looked at him for some form of instruction. He just nodded and I waved it. Without warning a burst of flame came out of it and I dropped it faster than I had dropped the phone earlier. "I'm so sorry. I don't know how that happened. Please For-"
He cut me off with a dismissive wave of the hand and handed me another one to try. "It happens all the time Miss. Jones. Nothing new in a job like mine."
I took the wand hesitantly and pointed waved it again thinking about water hoping it would somehow change the outcome of what would be produced. Out came snow. Not exactly what I had it mind but it was better than the flames. "Umm, I don't think this is the wand for me, Mr. Olivander." I laid it on the counter and looked around the room again.
There it sat on a table in a corner. I walked over to it and picked it up without a second thought. When my hand touched it, it was as if the whole world was placed in perspective for me. I looked to Mr. Olivander and smiled. He smiled right back and all he had to say was, "The wand chooses the witch Miss. Jones." And with that he packed it up in the box.
It was then that I realized I had no money. At that point my mother walked in holding more than enough in her arms and smiled, "Good you have your wand already. I'll just pay for that." She placed a couple of weird looking coins on the counter and smiled, "Thank you Mr. Olivander."
He nodded and said, "Have a good day Dehlila." I was in shock. My mom never let anyone call her by her first name and yet her did and she smiled and nodded dragging me out of the store, my new wand in hand.
My attention was so focused on it that I bumped into a kid with brown hair and brown eyes on accident. "Sorry," I mumbled and kept looking at my wand. He said something but I didn't quiet hear him over the jumble of thoughts running around in my head. They all came to the same ending. I couldn't believe that this world had been hidden from me for eleven years.
