Destiny Melantha rubbed her temples with both hands, annoyance setting in. "Listen, I don't sleep very often," she said heatedly to the Auror questioning her. "I went for a walk, that was all," she defensively added. It was as if the Auror in front of her was accusing her of kidnapping a Slytherin boy. "I'd love to help you. Really, I would, but I don't know anything. You won't even tell me who's missing."
"That doesn't matter at present, Miss Melantha," the older woman said, scribbling something on a piece of parchment. "What matters is why you were out of bed last night, roaming the halls. Mind telling me the facts, dear?"
"First of all," Tinny said, getting very angry, very quickly, "I'm not your 'dear' anything. Second of all, I've already told you why I was up. I don't sleep every night, so I take a walk sometimes, to clear my head and make me at least a little tired so I can maybe get an hour or so before school."
The woman looked at her skeptically once more before saying, "And you didn't see anything strange?"
"No, I didn't see a thing. What would I possibly see? This is Hogwarts. It's about the safest place on the planet," Tinny snorted.
"Thanks for your help," the woman said, though it was clear she was not sincere. "Your Headmaster will be informed shortly that you were not in your bed or even in your common room last night and he can deal with you accordingly. If you happen to... remember anything from last night, be sure to tell me, right?"
Tinny nodded and, when the Auror had turned away, threw the nastiest look she could muster. I don't deserve to be treated like a criminal when I haven't done anything! she thought angrily. She yawned widely. If her walk hadn't made her tired, this morning certainly had. |
