Charley slipped into the common room, amazed that she answered the riddle correctly. Lessons were hard work already. She still didn't have a roommate, so she didn't think she should just head to her dormitory; she began looking for a place to sit. That was the only bad thing about not being in the same house as her brother: she really didn't know anyone.
She saw a girl she was pretty sure that she recognised sitting in an armchair over by the fire. She saw that a chair close to her was unoccupied, so she briskly walked over to it and quickly sat down, being careful not to collapse into it for fear of someone noticing.
"So, did you enjoy your lessons today?" she said meekly as she put her bag on the ground by the feet of the chair.
Emily looked up as a girl came and sat in the chair next to her.
"Mmmm yes... and no....", she laughed lightly.
"It's going well, it's just tiring me out, what with charms, potions, divination and ancient runes.... its just really busy, and muggle studies will be starting in a while. Not to mention the other classes." Emily didn't even want to think about how much homework they were going to get.
She twirled a strand of hair around her fingers.
"How about you? things going well?" she asked the girl.
"I'm Emily by the way", she added.
