Risu almost didn't hear the knock. This wasn't premature deafness, however, he was simply occupied otherwise: He was standing on a precariously balanced chair, trying to dust off the shelves in his office. For some reason, the office hadn't been cleaned at all during term break, and dust, especially in an old castle, has a habit of accumulating.
Dust in a magical environment, doubly so. Even as Risu waved his wand to vanish the small grey particles, they rearranged themselves to form bad words. By pure coincidence, these words were very similar to the ones swirling inside Risu's head as he nearly lost his balance when the knock came again. As gentle as he usually was, being forced to grab all fifteen volumes of
The Galactic Companion so as not to fall had to produce some sort of emotional response.
When he was sure the chair wouldn't topple over because of some provocative action on his part, like breathing, Risu called out, "Come in!"
