Spike's lips were pursed together in frustration as he stepped into the Common Room. If he wasn't sure he belonged in this house before, he knew it now. How was he meant to know the answer to that riddle thingy? He'd been standing outside a good ten minutes trying to figure the thing out. If he had to do that everyday to get in... His head hurt to think about it.
He pouted and looked round the room. "Well this is it, Matilda," he said softly, his eyes wide at the variety of people there. "Our new home. If we can ever get into it again, of course."
Now what?
Ellie turned her head a bit when she
though she heard a familiar name. Maybe. It was
really quiet, though, and the common room was pretty loud, so she couldn't be sure. But she had been right, and she gave a small wave to Spike. He could come over if he wanted, she supposed, and she turned back to James.

Jacob nodded in agreement, yes it was effective. Jacob looked around the room, he decided to just ignore what Ellie and the other kid were talking about. and the common room was getting noisier... but still nothing out of the ordinary... it was weird that nothing weird was happening, but suddenly
Sparks flew from his wand that sat in his back pocket, and his pants caught, "FIRE!" he screamed and swore loudly as his butt and were he was sitting were now on. he jumped off the couch and started running around patting his butt trying to put it out.
He hit the wall, and fell back, and the butt fire was out when he hit the ground, but the couch was still on fire... Someone Put It Out!
Fire?!
Oh, Jacob fire. No biggy.
And while older students were freaking out about putting the fire out, she remained calm where she was. Surely they could handle it better than her, right? Being older and such.
Though...it was taking them quite a while..

I mean really.
What was wrong with his housemates that they couldn't just handle it with one aguamenti? Or you know, Aqua Eructo? Or even put a bubble head charm around the thing and let it burn itself out?
"Any body got marshmallows?" He ventured to the room at large.
And James wasn't doing anything either, so surely she needn't worry.
And marshmallows. Heh. Ellie gave a small laugh. It deserved more, but there were such things as smoke and other people who might not think it so funny.

After a few minutes of people fighting the fires, and Jacob coming back to his senses. He realized after taking in a breath that the room was filled with smoke. He started coughing, still on the ground. Jacob felt around the ground for his wand, but as he picked it up, it felt lighter than usual.
He opened his eyes to see why, the smoke made his eyes watery, but he distinctly saw only half a burntwand. The other half laid as a pile of ash next to him. Jacob coughed slightly but a small whine escaped between the coughs.
But when the whole fire situation was finally dealt with, she saw Jacob. On the floor. With a stubby wand.
Heh.
No, Ellie wasn't going to laugh. That was mean. And a faulty wand, that really was....awful.
She actually felt bad. So, she stood up and walked over to Jacob, offering her hand to help him up, but James had gotten there first.
No biggy, it was the thought that counted anyway.
And she stood there, watching for Jacob's reaction. He was too proud to go to the hospital, she would think. Especially after he ran out of there last term.
