She wasn't offended by his denial, but she wanted him to know. It was important.

That wasn't healthy, the way Wesley told him about what her mother said.
"I just don't lie because... well... if something isn't why say it is?" Jake chipped in. He'd never ever had to be told about lying. Untruths rarely occurred to him.
Anyway, yes.
"Wear your badge. Wear it proudly. You earned it and some people would kill for you. Be proud of what you are."
He'd noted the way she kept covering it up earlier and now she wasn't wearing it at all. Jake was so very VERY confused.
