As he stepped into the Owlery, Derian was taken aback by the noise. The owls were all busy chattering to themselves about whatever owls talked to each other about. As he closed the door behind him, he ignored the other girl there--figuring that she wanted her privacy--and busied himself by looking for his
owl.
He finally spotted the familiar unsettling visage staring at him as though the owl could see into his soul. He smiled--Enki's wise, penetrating gaze was what had initially caught (and then held) his attention. "
Enki! Come down here from that perch, I have some treats for you!" To reiterate the offer, he pulled a mouse he had caught from his pocket and dangled it for Enki to see. Predictably, the owl was instantly drawn and landed on his shoulder hooting eagerly for his meal.
