Having put the pieces of card on each individual desk, Isabelle had arranged them in a semi-circular fashion, for now at least. Depending on what they would be doing later on, they could be moved. It was easy enough. Having placed several boxes of bits and bobs on the large wall length table behind her desk, she was now leaning against her desk, arms crossed and a smile of greeting on her face.
As well as the professor, the first thing you see upon entering is the large blackboard behind her right shoulder. Upon it was a message for the incoming students:
Quote:
Please write your name, house and year on the card provided and place it at the front of your desk. Thank you.
OOC: As this was meant to open 3 hours ago (*pets SS*), I will not start the lesson proper until about 8PM GMT now. Please have your character enter and take their seat, filling out their details too. You can chat, but please DON'T do it excessively.
Alice jumped when she heard Jaina's voice. She was there all along?! How could Alice not have seen that? She turned to face Jaina then smiled. "Hehe. Hello Jaina. Sorry I was too into this lesson. You know how much I love Transfiguration class" she smiled then looked at Jaina's sheet of paper. It had many ideas as she thought, though it wasn't surprising to Alice since Jaina was muggleborn. She could do this in her sleep if she wanted. "Jaina. What are those red cars called? The one that puts fire out..I don't exactly know that it's called. Haha" she laughed at herself in the end for not knowing.
Jaina giggled some more. "Well, there are fire engines and there are fire trucks. If it's a brush fire, then you would need a brush truck or fire helicopter. My next door neighbor was a fireman and he told Joshua and I all about the fire equipment." She would have just said fire engines years ago, but since she got the lesson, she now knew the difference. "You could use transfiguration if there was an accident. Like if two cars hit and someone was pinned in one of them, you could transfigure the piece trapping them into paper so it could be broken easily. Just a thought." She had lots of thoughts on how to help muggles....after all, she was could at helping people.
Help muggles with magic? Why had the school become the muggle protection adgency?
"Well you could use accio to summon something they needed..." But that's kind of like stealing... sort of... "Or just basic charms could help them. Everyone really - muggle and wizard alike. Like using magic to fix something broken, light a fire, a cheering charm's always useful as well"
Yep, Emily had used a few of them at home.
"But those are just basic spells. If we were helping them on a big scale it would be like... saving their lives? Like, if they fell off a high level you could use a Cushioning Charm. Or like putting protective enchantments around their houses..."
Yep, her parents had told her all about doing that during the great war. Every life is important!
Isabel raised her hand, she had an idea. She actually come have come up with a few, but she shared one of them. "Well, if there was someone who really needed water, but couldn't have any, then you could conjure up some with 'auquamenti'." Would that be conjuring? Isobel pondered it for a moment before deciding, yeah, probably.
"Very good, Isobel. Aguamenti could have many uses for helping - drinking water, putting out fires etcetera." Isabelle smiled and nodded her head. A good start, and the chalk was going to be working overtime.

Fiona thought for a moment. She had lived around muggles for most of her life. Several of her neighbors had been muggles. Hmm... She thought hard for several moments then raised her hand into the air. "Maybe, Professor, if muggles were having rat problems a person could use a spell to get rid of the rats or change them into something less disgusting and annoying. Then after doing that, I would totally take the rats and put them in Mal's sock drawer. Haha that would totally get some good laughs!
"Ahh rats, yes. Some muggles keep them as pets, while others don't want anything to do with them. Transfiguring them would be good for some." Another smile.

Being impaled on a bunch of sticks down a dark hole would probably be pretty painful," she offered.
After a moment she let her eyes drift... She had been sitting next to Salander the WHOLE TIME? Whoa. She was totally nerding out on this lesson. Giving him a small smile she then turned back to the professor.
Well didn't this one have an imagination on her. A hole with sharp sticks? Perhaps she'd been watching muggle adventure movies or something. "Interesting scenario, Lexi. But turning the sticks into something more bouncy would help there, yes." Wow. Just...wow.

"Conjuring oil, most helpful in that situation. Well done Conan. Although we would have to be careful to get the right sort of oil, or I hear, cars can break down with the wrong stuff." Or so her sister helpfully told her once. Yeah, her brother-in-law could be - silly - at times.

Meh. This school's motto seemed to be "Save the Muggles, Save the World." Wasn't it supposed to be something about tickling a dragon, though?
Sighing, she raised her hand. "First off, if I used magic in front of a muggle, I think they'd need medical assistance shortly afterward, because you can bet your bottom dollar most of them would pass out over witnessing some of the stuff we can do," she said. That wasn't her idea, though. It was just a thought that had come to mind, and she said as much shortly after sharing that.
Lowering her hand, she added, "How about we assist them with chores and...maybe even simple spells like the summoning spell? My neighborhood friend knows a muggle, and she said the guy never gets off his couch all day long." Sad. So sad. "I think they'd want to know our secrets behind fast and effective cleaning and just summoning things to come to us instead of having to get up and retrieve them."
Mhmm. Right. The first child to make the point that out. Isabelle smiled and lowered her head. Maybe she should have mentioned it was hypothetical, and she wasn't planning on having muggles in the classroom? "In that case then, Sierra, maybe you would be able to conjure something medical related to help them? A cold flannel for their head perhaps?"
"I would say Accio is more of a charm, as we are not conjuring or changing the appearance of the thing. And I was more thinking about little ways we could help them, rather than teach them things. They'll never be able to perform magic, as you know. But helping with chores in some way for a muggle you know, is not a bad idea. Thank you." Smiling, Issy turned towards the next person.

He couldn't keep his hand from tightening on his quill and his eyes from dropping to his parchment, glaring hard enough at it that for a moment, he thought he may be able to light it on fire.
Why this now? Why any of this now? Suddenly the statue was the most important topic. Suddenly helping muggles had become such a top priority that it was enforced in every class. Why couldn't this have happened two years ago? Why couldn't they have spoken of this before last year? Before he lost one of the most important things in his life. It was almost as if it was mocking him, the possible rectification of the statue, the reminder that he hadn't been able to do anything for foolishly leaving his wand behind. And why on this green earth, did every Professor think that the contribution of wizards to muggles was needed to 'fix' and 'help' them? It was, and then at the same time it wasn't, and his head felt as if it would explode as thoughts ripped in separate directions and pain welled up once again.
"Patronus." Continuing to stare straight at his paper, arms folded across his chest and his vision already turning blurry with building tears he cursed, Sabel spoke lowly and tightly. "For when a muggle is dying or severely injured and the only help you can get is from someone other than yourself, be it a doctor or another wizard." A single tear streaked down his cheek before being absorbed by his shirt, the rest remaining contained and quiet.
Isabelle narrowed her eyes at the older boy to her left. SOmething was wrong with him, he seemed - angry, was it? "More a charm, dear, but certainly helpful. And that is the sort of helpful idea I was after....Are you - are you alright, Mr Dakest?" Mhmm, she was concerned.

So, what kind of things would they need help with?
Oh, he had plenty of ideas. Whether or not those ideas would make sense was a different story. Finally he decided on something. Raising his hand, he said, "Let's say there was this really big storm - like a hurricane - that's gonna be really destructive. We could, like, turn the water into something less harmful, like, say, marshmallows?" Sounded great to him. "Maybe?"
"I think for that one to work the water would need to be contained in something, as water itself is a very broad thing...." Yes, she was being vague. Some of the ideas were leaving her speechless.

That was all he could think of. Jake folded his arms on his desk and rest his chin on them.
"Conjuring plain notebooks is relatively simple, but as you say, there are alot of words in novels and such, and you'd need to know them all or...you'd get a very strange muddled up book, I'd think." Isabelle gave Jake a warm smile of acknowledgement.

Wesley raised her hand, "Well, this one time a couple holiday breaks back, I was walking down the street with Mr. Lawrence, and we saw this sad man trying to stay warm under a scrap of cardboard," the 6th year's face shifted from anxious to solemn, "If I could have, I would have transfigured that cardboard into a lovely, fluffy, yellow blanket."
Instead Mr. Lawrence had given the freezing man his coat. Which, Wesley had to admit, was nice. But his coat was not lovely or fluffy or yellow. It was black. And everyone knew black was a scary color.
"Ahh just the sort of thing I was after, Miss...Reagan. And that would be a lovely thing to do, yes." A nod and smile, before Issy checked that all the achievable answers were being taken down on the board.

She raised her hand again and said "Or let's say the muggle is working with animals like tigers, lions etc. and some of them get out from their cages we can transform them into a rabbit or something harmless."
"Good thinking, Georgiana! Yes Incarcifors transfigures an object to capture something. Most useful - could even be good for the rat scenario mentioned earlier." Hmmm, maybe that would be a good one to learn? Or maybe she would still let them choose. It might be a long lesson. Ivory Vitya Erised
Ravenclaw, Fourth year
There. Smudge free. Setting it nicely at the front of her desk, Ivory went back to taking notes on the five exceptions to Gamp's Law as she pondered the question.
Raising her hand timidly she spoke up. "Perhaps we could use a purifying or filtrating spell on certain small bodies of water to rid it of pollutants and contaminates. Especially in some of the third world countries where even sanitary drinking water is a rarity."
"Excellent idea. Or perhaps, just expanding on that, we could transfigure an object into a water pump to achieve the same the same effect?"

SPOILER!!: Chyler

Occasionally this would all get extremely dull, however, and she'd try to think outside the box for a more creative way to understand whatever it was the redhead was trying to learn. Eyebrows lifted, she let the professor's words sink in as she reflected back to her previous life, before Hogwarts. She also let the fact that either the professor had ignored her or got her name wrong slide because, quite frankly, when it came to something important, she'd make sure the professor didn't forget her. In the meantime she didn't particularly care.
Anyways ... Hmm. "Professor," Chyler began, raising her hand and her voice so that she could be heard over the light babble, "perhaps if the muggles needed to get from place to place quickly, we could help them by apparating? An example would be if the muggles had a medical emergency and needed to get to a hospital, or if a muggle was drowning and needed to leave the water quickly, etc. I'm actually not quite sure if apparating is transfiguration because on the one hand it is an ability that any wizard should have yet on the other it requires a wand and essentially you vanish. Before, we said that transfiguration was also the vanishing of beings - is apparition a form of transfiguration?
"Of course, I don't expect us to study apparition, this is merely a hypothetical question," she added quickly, needing to make sure that after that very special speech (it was rare because Chyler does not make speeches, ever) the professor wouldn't misunderstand her. Focusing her forest green eyes on the Professor, the sixteen year old never the less kept her ears open. Some of the people in this school really did have a brain in their heads. . . A barely there smile graced her face as she remembered the kid who had just recently recited the techniques for apparition instead of Gamp's five exceptions. Granted, he wasn't very clever but the redhead had been entertained by the comment.
"I would say that would be an extremely helpful thing for you to do, although, as you say, not something we can practice here today." Isabelle scratched her chin as she thought about the girl's question. "Technically you disappear from the place you started in, and reappear somewhere else, so it's not vanishing as such. When vanishing an object it goes into a state of non-existence until it is brought back - if it's brought back. Apparition is slightly different to that." Did that make sense?

I would think of using an Undetectable Extension Charm on a bag for a muggle. They would definitely be helpful. Or perhaps Transfigure it so that it is much more practical for their use, perhaps an animal that could just carry their stuff or something."
"Yes, good one. I always do that with my own things, seeing as I tend to take more than I need." Smiling at the girl, Issy moved on.
SPOILER!!: Hyun

Yes, finally the lesson really started! Hyun had already let his wand fell out of his holster and held it in his hand. He was however, pouting again when he heared they weren't going to be doing magic...just yet , hopefully. With a sigh, Hyun holstered his wand back in his wristholster.
Ok so trying to think of a situation in which to help a muggle....wait... Help a muggle? Ewwww "Why on earth do we WANT to help a ...muggle?" Hyun's voice filled the classroom and he wasn't ashamed to tell. Hyun didn't like muggles and he knew nothing about them. Ok that's a lie. He did know a few things but not everything! Luckily for him the law was still saying to keep magic unnoticed from muggles.
Despite not liking helping out a muggle, Hyun still wanted to do his best. So he thought of a situation. He thought and thought while meanwhile he started to lean back in his chair, folded his arms over each other and with a slight frown on his face. And yes, he unconciously started to rock the chair again. It was a habit, he especially did it while thinking.
"Uhm we can use magic in front of a muggle when..." Some more thinking and chair rocking. "When a muggle is on a rooftop of a house and someone stole the ladder! We can then transfigurate an object in to a...ladder" Ok truth is, Hyun is good at Practical Transfiguration, Not Theory. Also he was starting to get bad at balancing. Hyun gave a yelp when he felt the chair slip and he landed with a
BAM!
On the ground. Mumbling curses under his breath, Hyun quickly stood up from the ground and pushed the chair upright again. He checked the chairs legs and rolled his eyes. "Not even a leg is damaged!" He sat down on the chair and remembered he was in class.....
Yep, trouble. She could feel it. In her bones.
"Why wouldn't you want to help, Mister Kim? Some muggles can find themselves in situations that they can't get out of without assistance. And if we, as a magical population, come across something like this and can use our powers to help - why shouldn't we? Hypothetically of course." The Statute prevented any of this from becoming actuality. Mores the pity.
"But I do like your ladder idea, good thinking." And mind. The. Chair. "I did tell you to be careful," Issy said, trying not to roll her eyes.

After thinking for a while, Fallon raised her hand. "Well Professor Magnus, I think it would be a good idea to help Muggles be more productive in their jobs. Especially in office jobs. Maybe do some spells that could make there work go faster." Now that she thought about it, she hadn't really thought that through before she said it outloud. Oh well.
"Good idea, yes, although you would have to be there with them." And not many wizards of witches worked in muggle areas. "What sort of thing would you do? Transfiguration wise."

Sakura volunteered, not really sure why she was speaking up in the lesson. Generally she just liked to be ignored during classes. She kinda liked not being noticed by people.

"That should do." she muttered to her self. She had gotten a few ink smudges on the card, but she wanted to pay attention to the class so she wouldn't fall behind. Nika listened to the proffesor's question and tried to think. Hmmm... What could she use for muggles. She thought of situations that she found herself in when she did not know of her magical abilities. "Well...," She started. "What if a muggle was in a tickle fight or something. And the person the were tickle fighting against had them so that they couldn't move their arms. We could help them by using the Rictusempra spell and tickling their opponent." Nika wasn't sure what else to say. Many others had already said thing she was thinking of like conjuring water for them or something. And she was one to think outside the box. Nika wanted the professor to remember her somehow. And whose to say that a muggle won't get into a tickle war. She used to have tickle wars all the time and she always wished there was someone to help her win because Nika lost most of the time.
Tickle war. These kids were actually amusing. "Wouldn't that be considered cheating, Miss Adler?" Was all Isabelle said. Not to mention it was more a charm anyway, but the cheating comment would suffice. Heh.

It was when the class turned to muggles that the lesson had her undivided attention. To say Arya was confused at to why all the lessons seemed to revolve around helping muggles when in reality they weren't allowed to would be an understatement. She just didn't get the sudden interest. She wasn't against it in any sense, but she still didn't get it. If anything, it was only disheartening to know they could only speak in hypothetical terms.
It was Sabel's first answer that turned her attention from the other students to him, more to tease him that a patronus is a charm and not a transfiguration spell, but his demeanor and the rest of his response that had her biting her tongue. That...she had no response for that, simply because she knew so much about that response and what hadn't been said. The only thing she could do was suck on her bottom lip and look at him with a worried expression before turning her eyes on the professor and slowly raising her hand.
"I don't know how much help we would be professor. Muggles are perfectly capable of helping themselves, and have done so for a long time." She chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully, hand lowering. "Most of the things already mentioned they can do on their own and wouldn't need our assistance. Other's situations would make them dependent on us, and we'd have to be around them constantly to help in those cases." She paused when she realized she was rambling a bit and focused on the question posed. "I guess....if we wanted to assist them in anything....that they couldn't already do on their own...we could transfigure them into animals they wish to study....see how it is to live be the creature and stuff." SHE wouldn't want to be any creature, but she knew for a fact that some muggles would. "Though....they could still could become dependent on us for that." Arya frowned at her response, crossing her arms over her chest. This topic just became more confusing.
Arya seemed to be a deep thinker, and she had a point. To an extent.
"Everyone needs help occasionally, Arya, even muggles. They can't all help themselves, especially in some situations - the ladder and roof for instance." Probably a lame example, but she wanted to use one a child had already said. "If we can use magic to assist, even if it's just a little bit because it was the easier option, wouldn't you want to?"
Isabelle smiled at the girl, hoping that she could see from her view why they were doing this lesson. She knew muggles weren't completely helpless, but being helpful wasn't a bad thing. "And I think maybe Human Transfiguration is a bit much for the first lesson of term, but it is a good idea. Thank you."

Emily raised her hand. "Professor... would it be possible... say for example if one of those airplane things muggles use to travel... well if one began to fall from the sky- as they do... would it be possible to conjure a pool of jelly or a matress large enough to cusion its fall? Therefore saving the muggles' lives?" she asked... then she had a better though, " Or transfigure it into a bird until it landed safely?" she added. Emily felt a bit embarassed by her question... it seemed a strange and weird thing to do when really to help muggles travel more efficiently we could help them by apparating them where they need to go.
"A mattress large enough for an aeroplane to land on? Urrrr well, it would take a great deal of concentration and time to get it large enough, but I suppose you could do, yes. Not today though I don't think - the room isn't quite large enough for one of that size." Crinkling her nose as she smiled, Issy nodded at the girl. Disasters seemed to be high on the list of answers.

*ahem*
Kurumi leaned back in her seat for a moment with her quill tickling her nose as she moved it against it. Being able to perform magic in front of her family was a big enough dream for her to wrap her head around. Doing so in front of the entire non-magical population would probably kill her from shock. Doing so, even in her own home, would mean she would be free. She wouldn’t have to hide, lie, deny who she really was.
What sort of Transfiguration would she like to perform in front of non-magical people? Was everything and anything an appropriate answer? If she was going to perform magic in front of non-magicals, Kurumi would like to do something that showed that she was harmless and do something that could make people smile. Perhaps even entertain.
“Professor, I have always been interested in animal transfiguration,” Kurumi said with her hand raised. “For example, Lapifors or,” he mind wandered into things that could actually be helpful. “…perhaps Incarcifors. It could be useful in catching all those rabbits that you transfigured or other things…” Like demon rocks.
Perhaps not useful in helping muggles, unless....Hmm. But Incarcifors certainly was. "Incarcifors is very good, as I said. You can capture a great many things with it. Lapifors maybe for another day?" When the subject wasn't muggles. Heh. "Good thinking, Kurumi."

The name card was filled in, and the card in front of hers...whoops. Why did Jenny never seem to notice the darn name cards? Quickly she filled hers in.
"Um..." Jenny said as she looked up. "Well, say a muggle started sneezing while hiking in the middle of the forest all of a sudden. Maybe there could be a spell where you can pick up the nearest rock or plant and transfigure it into a handkerchief? I don't think muggles in general like sniffing in their noses all day."
"Assuming they don't already have one, conjuring or transfiguring a hanky is a nice idea." Although why hiking, Isabelle had no idea. Kids.

Then Caroline had an idea, She rasied her hand. "Say a muggle gets locked out of the house or what is that thing they call a car or something, right?" Oh for snakes sakes. She don't know much about muggles."Anyway you could use Alohomora to unlock the door for them or transfigure a key that can open it up" The whole muggle thing had messed up her train of thought, and imagination.
"Alohomora is more of a charm, but some good ideas there." Although a universal key to fit might be a challenge for them. Hmmm.

Transfiguration? she thought. She raised her hand slowly. "Transfiguration is the art of changing the form of... something into another," she said. "Isn't it?"
Anything we want?
Helena raised her hand. "I've heard of a spell that helps up transfigure something into small birds. That would be nice! I mean... I was thinking about entertaining muggles in a special way, or something like that."
OOC: If you are going to pretend to be here all the time, please just pick up from the last question asked, and not post answers for everything, or I will dock points in the future. Just a warning.

What Conan said about gas reminded him of something "There was this nasty oil spill about 50-60 years ago along the Gulf of Mexico-- an oil rig blew up so the oil well that it was connected to underwater was gushing outta control. It took 3 months for the Muggles to seal it back up. Took even longer just to clean up the oil spill which at that point has spread over thousands of miles-- in the water, along the shoreline, on the sea floor. Pretty much everything was either coated in crude oil or was already dead due to poisoning or suffocation."
"So maybe..... we could help them transfigure all that oil that would've sealed the leak quickly. And collect the rest of the oil spill thats mixed in with the water and the soil by transfiguring them into something that easier to handle or more useful.... like rubber duckies or beach balls, or floating pool loungers."
Well, if they are helping out with an oil spill by the shore, might as well have a party to go with it right? Right!
Hmm, another disaster. Not the answer, the problem that he gave as a situation. Obviously. Non of the answers had been complete disasters. Except maybe the hole and sticks - not sure where that one came from. Heh.
"Ahh yes, I think I remember reading about that. Little bit before my time, but you are right - being able to help with the clean up would have been good. Transfiguring the lumps of congealed oil and mess into something more green, as it were, is an admirable idea."

What was it with them and their ideas of where muggles would get stuck? Isabelle kept her giggles in as another child mentioned a different place. A desert. Yes. "Although it needn't be a desert, just anywhere that it would difficult to find petrol or gasoline. Good idea."

Thankfully that had been before her time but the elders of her commune were forever reminiscing over those terrible times of the great floods.

From what the woman said and by pureply trusting his instincts, he could tell she had fascination toward muggles. Just like his parents. But how high the intensity her fascination was, Cedric could not really tell. Ced was rather disposed towards the other-worldly beings.
"We could and should help them in simple ways, I think," he started with a smile, "that are really unnoticeable yet helpful and all... so that we wouldn't need to just imagine that we could perform magic in front of them and use it to help them." Had it been said in a bad, careless way, Cedric knew he would sound rude and ill-mannered. What he truly wanted the professor to notice was his point. Hopefully she would. He surely hoped so.
Simple but effective ways. Just what Isabelle had had in mind when she set the lesson, even if they had gone off in a disaster scenario tangent. It's not that she didn't like helping out, it’s that she didn't want to get caught and end up going to Azkaban. So she asked Professor "Professor isn't helping muggles get us into trouble of going to Azkaban??" she asked confusingly, she didn't know if that was actually right.
Anyway she had an answer for Professor's question and said "Professor, could we help them in getting money, if that they really need it, like in case if they get rubbed or something?" she asked.
"At the moment yes, Lucy, we would be in danger of that happening. But you never know what might happen in the future." At least they were clued up on the fact the Statute made it impossible for them to actually do any of this for real.

Magic for Muggle's benefit?
It seemed the school was gripped in a wave of Pro-muggle dealings. Which Patroclus thought was a lovely thing, he had no quams with muggles, none at all.
"Professor, I would use magic, to help those in Third world countries. Starting off with the multiplication of food, I would generate countless stores of longlasting, and eduring foodstuffs. So to avoid the deaths caused by malnutrion, plus I would create lots and lots of comfortable living spaces for people who have nothing but a tin shed for their home." Patroclus mind ticked back to the sad images he had seen in the slums of Indian, and the starving children in Africa.
It was not right that some people should have so much, and others so little....or even nothing at all.
"That would be a very nice thing for you to do, Patroclus." Very nice indeed. "Transfiguring things into bedding or covers or some such thing is a good idea as well, to add to yours." Yep, her brain was working with the ideas the kids were giving her. And at least he'd said multiply the food, not conjure. He'd paid attention. Good Prefect.

Hmm, this was a tough situation. First, the Slytherin was allllll excited about the idea of choosing what she wanted to learn instead of learning just what was being told...but then...then Professor ManIcan'trememberyourname had to go and say something horrid like that.
Helping muggles?
Frowning in confusion, her expression turned to one of disgust more and more as she heard some of these people's answers. Especially Sierra's. Why would she want to help some muggle's chores when she didn't even want to do her own? But then...Lexi...
...
"I for one think it would be a rather horrid idea to perform magic in front of muggles." she said, raising a brow before looking towards the Professor. "We all know what happened the last time." And if they didn't, then they better look it up! "Regardless if the person is in danger or not, I think it'd be more suitable to find a muggle way to help them, and to keep our magical ways to ourselves." Hmm, yes it was rather difficult to say all that as pleasantly as she could.
Helping a muggle. That would mean she'd have to be near a muggle to do that. Merlin help her the day that ever came. Hiding in the bushes and observing didn't count either.
Okay, so not everyone wanted to help. The non-charitable ones were showing their hand. Mwahaha. *cough* "I'm not saying we are going to do it in front of muggles, Miss Flores-Sheperd, merely what we would do IF we could. I'm just asking you to use your imagination to come up with ideas to help your fellow human beings. We are better equipped to help after all. If a muggle couldn't help themselves, waiting for another muggle to come along or using muggle methods might not be the easiest or best thing to do. Wouldn't being charitable be nice?"
Raising an eyebrow at the Slytherin, Isabelle gave her a smile. She wasn't going to get angry for another person's opinion, even if it didn't really match her own.

Charlotte had always imagined what Transfiguration would be like. She absolutely loved the idea of change. It was a fascinating concept. To her, it meant being a given second chance. A chance to prove others wrong, to challenge ill-conceived notions and spiteful accusations.
She mulled over her professor's question. Young as she may be, she was already aware of the many situations some Muggles were forced to endure. She also knew the impact of magic into their lives. That is, if they actually knew about its existence. Raising her hand tentatively, she voiced out her opinion.
"Professor, I believe that we can use magic in order to transform the lives of some people. A lot of Muggles suffer from injustices and false claims. In fact, many criminals actually get locked up behind bars even if they are completely innocent. Many assumptions are made without sufficient evidence or proof. I guess we just usually go with what everyone else says."
She bit her lip. "Perhaps, we can find a way on how to determine if they're telling the truth or not. Once we're certain, we can alter their looks and features. I know that this sounds really far-fetched... But, I really like the idea of giving each person another opportunity to be a productive member of society. I've noticed that a great number of Muggles have difficulty in forgiving others' mistakes and shortcomings. The bad things usually overpower all of the good that they've done throughout their lives. And so, I'd like to use magic as a way to bring justice to those who really deserve it. The disheartened would no longer have to worry about being shunned by narrow-minded fools."
She let out a deep breath. Charlotte hoped her explanation made sense.
She had really thought about that. Deeply thought, it seemed. Issy was impressed, and said so. "I'm impressed that you went so detailed into that scenario, Charlotte. Human transfiguration is a complex area however, and sometimes painful, so if it went wrong you might do more harm than good. But I do like your thinking."

"I like the sound of that idea, Miss Maloney. Making the hard to move pieces into something soft and malleable would make the task of removing it easier." And thus the chance of the injured getting worse is reduced. Nice.

"I was thinking more along the lines of transfiguration spells, such as the fire - which is a good idea to warm a person. The cheering charm, and the cushioning charm would be more Professor Descoteaux's area, I believe. But they are good ideas for helping."
With a flick of her wand the chalk dropped won again and a list was visible on the board. "Now I have only included the ones that we can possibly practice in the lesson today. That is not to say any of the ideas were bad ones, just maybe not practical for right now, inside a classroom." Isabelle smiled as she turned away from the students and walked over to the board.

"The compass thing looks pretty cool," Jake suggested, just moving his hand slightly so it was up-ish from where he was leaning on the table. "'Cause, you know, they can't do the four points. To be honest, I just like the look of it. Muggles aren't gonna have a look in."
A thought occured to Jake and he suddenly looked under the table, looking up at the underside. When he came back to the surface, it was with a hint of disappointment on his face.

Satine wrote down the list and circled her vote and then checked one more time to make sure that was for sure her choice. She smiled and then raised her hand,
"Professor, I vote for #5-The compass one." she said with a smile still glancing at her circled list.
What would he do? Cedric mulled over. But then decided, considering how many varied answers the other students come up with, that all that one could do to help a muggle had already been stated, let alone the far-fetched ones. But he simply couldn't help himself so he said, "A muggle driver was driving on a lonely, dark road. His car's headlights were broken so it simply wouldn't work but he was on a tight time so he wouldn't stop driving. He didn't know, both side of the roads were perilous cliffs. I will conjure light to guide him through his way." Cedric wasn't really sure if he made sense at all but he had just to say what he got to say.
Cedric peered at the board in utmost skepticism. Aguamenti was a well, an easy spell to do but he thought it would be boring to learn it... most especially when you already knew the spell. Conjuring oil would get them dirty. Turning something into a handkerchief could be fun for you could detail it with intricate details, letting your creative juices flow, but for what? Watches into compass, interesting enough but he thought they've done that before, didn't they? Hmm. Ugh, decisions. "I'd like to learn Incarcifors, professor."
With a flick of her wand the chalk dropped won again and a list was visible on the board. "Now I have only included the ones that we can possibly practice in the lesson today. Aguamenti? Knew it!
Conjure oil? Emily didn't like the smell of oil, so no!
Incarcifors? Cool, but she coudn't see when she would ever need that.
Item into a handkerchief? Already had one!
Watch/other item into a compass? That sounded useful! She was always getting lost.
"I think the watch into a compass would be the most useful Professor!" she smiled. Magic was so cool! Hopefully they could do them all over the lessons, but for now - watch to compass. Sorted.
Chloe knew augmenti so that was out. A spell to to change an object into a compass is boring. Incaerfus is interesting changing an object into a cage but how useful is that really? And the hankerchief one sounded just stupid. That left just one. She raised her hand and responded, "I would atrumia partum to conjure oil cause oil can be used to run so many things atleast in the muggle world which I would like to properly explore abit someday".
"Professor, why have the classes changed from learning magic to helping muggles? I mean It's alright, I guess, to help muggles, but why the change?"
He thought about the opening feast he went to and was introduced to Mr Gervic.
"I mean most of the muggles I've talked to believe in fate and faith rather than actually believing there is magic in the world they live in."
Jaina turned her head and looked at the Slytherin boy. "You know, some muggles do believe in magic. Don't let some that strictly believe in faith and fate count for everyone." She couldn't understand why he would lump everyone together like that. "After all, I don't lump all wizards and witches together and say that they could careless what happens to us muggleborns and our families." True, she didn't get along with her parents, but still, they were her parents.
"Professor, I vote for #1," Jaina said with her hand raised.

Well, it sounded pretty interesting and useful not only for muggles, but for her as well. Oh wait, there's that spell, she thought, feeling her cheeks turn pink.

Chyler nodded and wrote what the Professor said as a side note, since it wasn't really Transfiguration but might help her with example giving when trying to prove or disprove theories. Examples were always good for those. Putting her quill back into the inkwell, the redhead raised her green orbs back to the board and quickly read over the list of things. None of them particularly appealed to her, although the fifth one was pretty ok.
"Professor, I vote for the fifth," Chyler raised her hand and glanced at the option again. Meh, it was the best one there. Sighing, she leaned back in her chair and waited patiently again for the lesson to pick up again.

Kita frowned. Making decisions was definitely not her forte! She was still staring at the board and decided to go through an elimination process.
Aguamenti... check! Atrumia Partum? Conjuring oil was sure going to make the room stink. Incarcifors? Taberleta? Comletia? Why is it that she hadn't heard of these spells? Maybe it would be useful to learn the other spells.
Her stare turned into a glare. This was proving to be more difficult than she thought. A memory of a holiday popped into her head. She sat up and blinked. "I'll go with the compass one," she said, with a small smile on her face.
Melanie gazed up at the board, going over the choices. Hmm, what to pick? She already knew aguamenti, so that spell was out. The Hufflepuff would like to learn all the others, but one in particular stuck out in her mind. "I vote for Atrumia Partum... the oil conjuring spell." she decided, raising her hand high. She'd probably be driving soon, if her aunt kept her promise to teach her. And, really, who wanted to pay for oil?
Melanie just sorta nodded at what the professor said about some of the spells seeming easy to older students. The water conjuring spell was the only spell she knew on the board and, honestly, the only thing she considered as she looked over the other spells was their usefulness.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

The Statute prevented any of this from becoming actuality. Mores the pity.
"But I do like your ladder idea, good thinking." And mind. The. Chair. "I did tell you to be careful," Issy said, trying not to roll her eyes.
Oh good question! why didn't he want to help out a muggle? "I don't know" Hyun said and looked at his fingernails, examining them. "muggles have adapted themselves in to the world without having to use magic so why reveal the magical world? If they knew about magic the whole world population would want to learn magic and i think there will be fights over it because they simply..can't do it. They will get frustrated and demand to know how we use it?" oh wow what a lame answer but it was the best rambling he could think of at the moment.
He grinned stupidly at the professor's comment. "Actually, professor, you never told me to be careful, just that i should not break the chair and i didn't" He couldn't help it.

She had faith they could do any of them.
Still no wand work? Hyun was slowly getting impatient. He really wanted to do magic so the faster he voted on one of the examples the better. He raised his hand in the air (this time his left hand, for some chance). "I'll vote for the compass, professor" It sounded the most useful. He did, however liked the oil example but it would only make a mess. And it was only because oil = money ...and he had money.

Thank you."

So it wasn't just her, the professor had noticed something was wrong with Sabel as well. Her eyes flicked over to him, considering her friend for a moment before turning back to the professor when she responded to her answer.
Arya knew what the professor was saying was true. Everyone does need help, but the thought that they were specifically speaking of muggles didn't sit well with her. Or maybe it was the way the professor phrased her question? Nodding her head slowly, she pushed aside all the other question swirling around in her head for the moment. Yes, for the most part, she would want to use magic to assist because it was the easier option, but she couldn't. Hm.
No, she still didn't understand why they were doing this lesson. At least why it was being tied to muggles, but she knew her questioning the professor could go on all day, and simply nodded her head again at the response to her idea. Human transfiguration wasn't something she wanted to try right now anyway.
Turning her eyes to the list on the board, immediately knowing what spell she wanted to learn. "I'd like to learn Comletia." Her hand went up briefly. It would come handy when she had to go camping, and when she was allowed to use magic outside of school.

"Yes, good one. I always do that with my own things, seeing as I tend to take more than I need." Smiling at the girl, Issy moved on.
Luin smiled as the teacher replied to her answer happy that she came up with something interesting, as she wasn't too sure about most things that muggles did in their everyday lives.

Luin jotted down each of the ones that were listed.

Aguamenti (conjures water)
Conjure oil (Atrumia Partum)
Incarcifors (creates a cage using an object)
Item into a handkerchief (Tabertela)
Watch/other item into a compass (Comletia)
She then thought about it for a little while, listening to some of the other student's answers, and then raised her hand, "I think turning watches or other items into compasses is a good one to do. It is something that would be very useful to anyone if they got lost anywhere and were unable to get away." Luin thought this class was going to be very interesting, she was definitely not expecting to be able to have so much student input to what was going to be taught to them, and especially about muggles. She never really knew much about what muggles but she figured is she could she would help them in some ways.
"Thank you, Jaina, I can handle it," Isabelle smiled, giving the girl a thankful look. "And you are right, some muggles do enjoy magic, they just think it's different to what it actually is. And you can't really say that everyone feels that magic isn't real, Benjamin, after all we don't know all the muggles in the world."
Clearing her throat, Issy walked back to her desk and leant against it, rubbing her temples. She'd need a clear head. Maybe she should open the windows after all.
Jaina bowed her head down. "I'm sorry, professor. I didn't mean to let my temper get to me. It won't happen again." she said sheepishly. Well, if they didn't know it, now they did, she was muggleborn. She was just hoping that her hair hadn't changed to the bright red it would when she argued with her parents. To ensure this, she shook her head and replied, "I promise, it won't." There, maybe no one noticed if it did
Lexi smiled at the Professor and nodded her head. As she went into thinking mode she tried to decide what would be the most useful spell. Wellll they could always cast the point me spell turning their wands into a compass of sorts... it would point North. Hmm. |Hehehe. A cage WOULD be useful.
Raising her hand she said, "I would like to learn Incarcifors." Simple as that.
Oh good question! why didn't he want to help out a muggle? "I don't know" Hyun said and looked at his fingernails, examining them. A good point, certainly. Some muggles did seem to want to start a war over the most trivial of things, and magic wasn't that. "I can see your point, Hyun, but I hold the personal view that people should help people - and why should we hide our magic when it could possibly help, and we could all work together?" Now probably wasn't the time for a deep and meaningful talk on that subject though, so Isabelle merely smiled and moved away.
...Until he spoke again. "Be careful with your tone, Mister Kim. My patience and humour only stretch so far." Giving him a warning glance, she now DID turn her attention back to the rest of the class.
"Thank you for all the votes, it would appear that the majority of you have chosen the compass spell. A useful one for those that don't want to constantly use Point Me! And want something more permanent." Muggles for instance. And the kids did seem to think they got lost alot, so why not learn this? Plus the fact you could use it then keep your wand free for other things. Anyway, moving on.
Walking to the table behind her desk, Isabelle took a deep breath and picked up one of the many boxes. "In here I have a range of watches - wrist ones, pockets ones, big, small. I'll pass them out to you all then we can concentrate on getting the incantation correct, along with the wand movement." Placing the box down on her desk, Issy lazily flicked her wand and watch after watch made it's way to a students desk. "Once you have had a chance to get the feel of your watch, you can try the proper pronunciation of the spell. WITHOUT wands first." She emphasised that bit. Didn't wand them to blow something up because they didn't do the right wand movement.
"Alright everyone. The incantation for this spell, as you can see on the board, is Comletia, and it is pronounced thus: Com-LET-e-AH. Have a go at getting that right, then we'll move to wands."
OOC: I'll be back a little later, feeling a bit ill right now. Please just have your character inspecting their watches and practising the incantation - NO WANDS YET. No excessive chatting please, just keep it to the learning. Thanks.
Ah. Eyeing the firstie population that posed possible explosions, Evan muttered to himself the incantation "Comletia--comletia--comletia!" Move onto the phase with wands, possibly quickly?

Ok, maybe he had gone a bit too far, but he loved getting on peoples nerves! Still , he also knew when it was time to stop before any points would be taken. Hyun looked up at the professor with an apologetic look on his face and nodded his head. He didn't like saying sorry so he hoped the professor would be ok with just the look.
And now for the fun part! Yes they were actually going to Transfigurate something! He grabbed his wand yet again as the last time but was stopped again when the professor said they were to practise without wand. Bleeeeh! Hyun shoved his wand back in his holster and took a deep sigh.
Watching as watches in all kinds of shapes flew around the room, Hyun looked to see a red banded wrist watch hovered towards his desk. He picked it up and examined it. The watch had no scratches or anything, it even had a cool little star in the middle! how cool was that?!
He placed the watch back on his desk and started to practise saying the incantation.
"Comuh let e ah
Comuh let e ah"
...wait that wasn't right... stupid accent.
Hyun tried again, this time listening with squinted eyes at how to pronounce it. "Com let e ah! com let e ah , com let e ah , come let me ah....no wait, com let me ah~!
Comletia!"
