Here at the table of purple and butterfly patterns, you have the pleasure of being seated where students of Papillionlisse call their own. It's a night of extravagance and excellence within the wide Dining Chamber of Beauxbatons. A gentle music floats through the room played by wood nymphs, just loud enough to be soothing without drowning out the little pockets of conversation here and there. The table cloths have been laid and straighten to perfection--do mind that you don't tug or displace them.
Each table is fitted with it's own wares; goblets, ceramic plates with intricate designs, pitchers of both water and and chilled pumpkin juice. There is to be no roughhousing at the feast. The Headmistress has every intention of having a serene evening as she graciously welcomes you to L'Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons.
This is not Hogwarts and you will not treat it like Hogwarts. Avoid loud noises, refrain from banging the tables or gnawing on your fell schoolmates. There's quite a bit of room, as the students of Beauxbatons have already had their own feast the day before. Remain standing until the Headmistress has entered and taken her seat. It's a sign of respect. The speech will be along shortly.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Claudine watched in silence as more students joined the table. Even without their uniforms, Hogwartians would be easy to spot. At least, some of them, for they were the ones who seemed annoyed by the fact that they were here at Beauxbatons. Herself? She was disappointed but she would not be folding her arms or frowning or glaring. She was simply observing, which was why she observed the intimidating- looking man headed their way. Her intense gaze zoned in on him as she proceeded to observe him. What was wrong with his neck? And his hand?
French, unfortunately, was not a language she had ever thought of learning but Claudine had an idea that she would pick up a few words and phrases long before the school year was over. Her eyebrows shot up. Head of House AND a professor? “He must scare the living daylights out of his students,’’ was the girl’s thought. Claudine rolled her eyes at the comment of the napkins. Which dunderhead didn’t know that? Oh, that’s right. One of those Gryffindors. Along with that bit of information, the mystery of why some students had been standing was solved.
Claudine was more interested in the student (Austin) seemingly having some sort of trouble breathing. Claudine might be the type of girl who kept to herself but she was not exactly heartless. “Your friend (Fiona) is right. Take breaths. Deep, slow ones. You’ll be just fine.” And fortunately, the boy seemed to be a few moments later.

However, she had been practicing her French a little more than usual over the summer, so hopefully it would get better as the year went on?
As she approached the table, a smile was immediately across her lips as she looked over the other students who had just been sorted as she had. Giving a friendly wave before speaking in a bright tone, "Hi there, I'm Faye.."
It was not too long after she had introduced herself that she had heard music playing in the background and was immediately looking to find the source, until her eyes settled on WOOD NYMPHS being the source of the beautiful music she was hearing! How sweet! This caused her smile to grow more before taking a seat at the table with the other students waiting for the ceremony to end.
....Could she perhaps go over to the nymphs listen to them?
"Hi Faye! I'm Bernie," she eagerly greeted the next person to arrive at their table. Was Bernadette perhaps a little TOO excited to meet everyone in her year? No, there was no such thing as TOO excited.

She was a babe, so that was fine. Phoebe pulled up next to the boy with color changing hair and immediately knocked her napkin off the table. "We did it," he whispered. It wasn't the "it" he had anticipated, but... there they were. Hogwarts students. Well, Hogwarts-slash-Beauxbatons students. They had houses. Different ones, but good ones. Oh look, a pair of twins. HOW FUN. "You two are related, yeah? But... different Houses?" Bernie watched at the girl twin knocked her napkin off and the boy twin just sat down, kinda mopey like.
Whatever.
Back to the girl twin. "I mean, France is kinda anti-Kings and Queens," she pointed out helpfully. "I doubt we'll have to curtsy to the Headmistress." Just saying.

It had been as necessary as the entire altercation with the gargoyle had been unsettling.
But first.
Thick Hebridean Black dragonhide boots shuffling against the immaculate marble floor, Mathys de Nostredame's hand was clutched against his neck. It was nothing but a flesh wound, hardly bled at all but would still need tended to, and curious in its execution seeing how uncharacteristic it was for the gargoyles to be this ornery this time of term. They always held their positions with pride about the castle's exterior. Pulling his hand away to examine it, he clicked his tongue and muttered a few choice words in French before his dusted in crimson palm returned to covering the slash going right across his neck from base of his jaw to collarbone. His chest had been spared thanks to his golden King of the Serpent skin jacket.
His feet came to an unceremonious stop right behind one of their Hogwarts guests [Cassirin] who had just purposefully knocked her napkin to the ground. "A curtsy would hardly be ze wahrst of sings for you to learn. Could perhaps help polish your movements. Zey appear to be .......lacking a certain grace." Coiling his fingers coolly to his palm, the Head of House beckoned the fallen serviette to his hand and they straightened his fingers and turned his palm to the table so that it draped itself back into its proper position.
"Bienvenue à L'Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons."
He was now speaking to the table at large and tilted his head a bit into his hand, pulse calming, before continuing.
"I am Professor de Nostredame, ze head of house to ze house of Papillionlisse, whose table you currently occupy, and your Care of Magical Creatures professor for ze term. A remindair zat napkins belong on laps or ze table, do not scratch ze silverware, and mouths are closed while one chews." He would have tipped them off about the color changing doilies under their plates, but he was certain those had been collected at the conclusion of the feast the night before. It was important that their Hogwarts guests not be distracted by too much splendor their first night. His piercing icy blue eyes scrutinized the long table. "Our headmistress has already been seated. Ze rest of you should do ze same."
Um, W O W.
LOOK AT THIS WIZARD.
Professor Notre Dame? Was he named after the building? Bernie almost raised her hand to ask, but she was at least a little bit intimidated by the leather-clad wizard, and also, he looked like he was kinda holding his head onto his neck, so maybe he had more important things to do besides answer silly little first-year questions.
She could TOTALLY go to his office-hours though, mhmm! Bernie was eager to impress ALL the wizards, so she straightened up in her seat and gracefully dropped her napkin onto her lap. Of course, it slid right off onto the floor, but THEN she scooped it up and gracefully dropped it on her lap again, this time doing her best to hold her knees at a proper angle so it would stay put.
And... mission accomplished! Wasn't this just the BEST first day of SCHOOL EVER?!

"It's weird being in different houses but sitting at the same table." He noted, being pretentious since he never was in a house before ten minutes ago.
"Why?" He repeated her question with a slight knot to his brow. "I'm metamorphmagus, my grandma said. It started only this summer when I got my wand, though." So who knew why. Probably because he was awesome?
Ilya gave her a wide smile in return. He liked meeting his yearmates! They were going to be stuck together for the next, like, seven years!
Another girl sat on the other side of him. Why was it that he was always surrounded by girls at home and now in school? Ilya attempted to catch the napkin and failed to. The girl didn't even seem fazed that she was knocking things over left and right. "It is too posh. I feel like I can't fart." He agreed in a whisper, but one that Gertie could hear if she was paying attention.
Ilya's small hairs on his neck stood up at the sound of the footsteps and then the warning his neighbor got for the napkin incident (that was obviously how this man saw it). Good thing he didn't hear his comment!!!!@11!
Apparently this was their head of house? They were a house? No. He was in Ravenclaw, okay? RAVENCLAW. Ugh. This sucks already. His expectations were shattering the further this night went. Ilya's shoulders slumped a little as the man gave them instructions on how to eat. Mkaaaay. Not going to follow those instructions, he had 10000% freedom at home to do whatever he liked to. Soooo...
"Oh, do we usually not sit with our year?" Bernie didn't really know how ANY of this worked, so her expectations were easy to exceed. She had about 5 million more Q's for Ilya, but she would be satisfied with his meta-morph-amuwhut? explanation for now?? Could she Google that after the feast?
BAHAHAHAHA OMG FARTS. Bernadette SNORTED at that, quickly covering her mouth so the big man/Head of House wouldn't hear her. How did Ilya know she found farts funny??!

Perhaps the color changing doilies would have been appreciated after all, his own pupils found the watercolor strokes for their brushes soothing to say the least. His eyes fell on the young student [2111jen] who, apparently, the mere presence and tone of the professor had sent into a panicked spiral. Mathys would have intervened further, but he knew not of this boy's needs and further encroachment would likely only upset the boy further. His peers seemed to have taken care of his immediate needs regardless, though he tucked away another necessary consultation with the Hogwarts healer.
The slouched shoulders of another student [Magical Soul] were likewise keenly observed and his fingers coiled once more, prepared to conjure a tie to secure this one's young shoulders to the chair to help facilitate a proper posture. He would refrain for the time being.
The other startled looks that went around the long table were noticed and greeted with calm skies behind the professor's own eyes. Though one in particular, those bright with curiosity belonging to a young lady [SweetPeea], seemed particularly concentrated. "Iz nothing but a flesh wound," he assured her. No need to alarm these students that Beauxbatons' security had been triggered, or else risk further panic attacks. "I had to calm a few of ze more unstable of creatures before arriving."
His head snapped around and he focused in on the eye roll of another student [FearlessLeader19]. "Zere somezing you wish to share?" he inquired rhetorically of her.
Though it seemed poor posture and eye rolling were the least of Mathys' troubles when it came to their guests as across the way on the Ombrelune table there was a student standing on it. Standing and making demands of the staff, of the very people who were going to great lengths to ensure that these students had any sort of formal education to maintain. It elicited much more than an arched brow from the man.
"....of all ze ungrateful displays," he scowled disapprovingly while snapping his fingers on his left hand to conjure a silvery coraciidae to flitter its way over to where the headmaster has descended down to meet with his students - and was followed by another member of the Hogwarts faculty whom he presumed was their healer seeing as there was vomit over at the Ombrelune table now as well. No sooner had his patronus left his fingers, however, had the Hogwarts headmaster departed the dining chamber and made his way out to the foyer with the little sprightly silvery bird in pursuit.
The matter settled, he turned his eyes back towards the table and nodded approvingly at the attempts being civil. Particularly those belonging to that young lady [BanaBatGirl].
"I trust I need not remind you zat standing on ze table is unsightly behavior," he said as a warning to those seated. "If you will pardon me, I need a word with your healer."
He bowed his head politely and then dismissed himself from his house table in order to stroll over to the Ombrelune one.

Before any further movement could be made, a silvery blue grey wolf came bounding over to the French man, a message secured to this magical manifestation of goodwill and light. It plopped down on its back legs and looked out. Seconds later, the voice of the Headmaster began.
Kindly direct the student to our school healer. She’s currently by the Ombrelune table dealing with another student. Have her handle the situation as needed.
Then it was gone, as quickly as it had come.

Whooooa, this guy. He was beautiful and terrifying and Phoebe wanted to know everything about him. She wanted to be besties. For. Life. "Je suis désolé, Professeur," Phoebe dimpled at him and DID drop into a curtsy, mostly to pick up her napkin. And also because they were best friends now.
And then he booped away up to the staff table, and Phoebe waved at his departing back. "He is the coolest."

Okay, so uhh...was he even at the right table? He kind of hoped not, because he didn't really like purple and butterflies. What would his friends back home say about that? If this was the right table, Charlie thought he'd just skip the whole purple and butterflies part when he wrote home.
To say that he was confused would be an understatement. He'd spent the better half of his summer letting the whole 'wizard kid' thing set in, and now that he was finally at his new school, it wasn't even the new school he'd thought he was attending. A sudden fear came over him. Was he even in the right country, right now?
Also, how did you even pronounce that P-word? Papillionlisse? He decided that he was going to call this group the House of Pap. That sounded kind of cool anyway. Charlie wandered around aimlessly until his gaze set upon an actual, legit familiar face. Bernie. And of course she was shouting, which was something he'd totally expected from her. "What's up, Bernie?" he asked. "This is the right place, right? I mean, for the first years?" Did he even trust her with the right answer? Heh. Probably not, but at least she was a familiar face.
And uhhh, hello to all these other people he didn't even know. At all. Merlin he had a lot to learn.

.........or not.
Mathys could appreciate the efficiency of the Hogwarts headmaster and respectfully inclined his head towards the wolf that crossed his path as he had pivoted away from the Papillionlisse table. Only the necessity to pivot right back around was pressing and he strolled his way down the table towards the very boy [2111jen] from earlier. "I need you to accompany me to ze Ombrelune table," he instructed gently, his fingers pinching the skin on the back of his neck as he adjusted his hold a bit. "A request zat comes from your headmaster, so zere will be no negotiations."
And, because he had returned, he caught the ungraceful movements from the young lady from before [Cassirin] with her wave. While he did not wave in return, the corners of his lips did turn up in a pleasant sort of smile. As pleasant as he could muster given the situations at hand.
"Yes, you are in ze correct place," he confirmed to the boy who had just joined the table [Anna Banana], though his eyes soon shifted back to the boy he was meant to escort.
"Come now," he beckoned [to 2111jen] with his free hand as he moved to pivot once more, this time to properly depart and see that this young boy and his neck were properly tended to.
In the span of 18 minutes, Max had managed to get sorted and gain two weeks of detention.
Two weeks!
Is this a new Vindictus record? he thought as he made his way to the table. I'll write to Donk. He would know.
Max plopped down across from some perky girls who were chattering about something and his mind continued to wander. But in true Vindictus style, his mouth moved and words came out, but only loud enough for those sitting around him to hear. "Purple. Why purple? Why name the table after insects?" he muttered under his breath. Still no food and now he was brooding. His stomach growled loudly. "Is it because that ratty hat smells like feet and everyone now has lice and they want us to think fluttery, happy thoughts before they force-feed us snails, fake grass and frogs legs?"

Faye was very ecstatic to have met someone and very hopeful get to know Gemma more! Could you say possible new friend, perhaps?? She would sure hope so, please give her all of the friend she could hold, please and thank you! Eagerly turning to fully face Gemma, Faye smiled again before asking, "So Gemma, you were sorted into Slytherin? Do you feel it was a right fit for yourself?" She could recall hearing Gemma's name being called and the house sorting around the time she went to sit with the hat.
"This place is so interesting, isn't it? I really can not wait to do some exploring..Oh, and of course eating will certainly be a plus as well.." Faye giggled while rubbing her hands together, really excited to not only eat, but find out what it is they serve here at this school. Would it be time for the feast to begin soon? In the midst of doing this, another girl around her age had introduced herself to her by the name of Bernie, what a fun name! The redhead quickly replied in her friendly tone, "It's nice to meet you Bernie! I'm Faye-oh wait, I've already told you that.."
She was curious to see how the sorting ceremony was going which would be the best answer for her internal question on the subject of food, and from the looks of it, it didn't seem like they were too near to being finished soon, so unfortunately she would have to wait a little longer before she could eat supper. But that was alright, they would certainly not do something like starve the students because empty bellies were never a good thing. Perhaps she could go back to admiring the wood nymphs again because that music was undeniably too beautiful to not pay attention to.
Decidedly adjusting herself again to put her attention back on the nymphs, she happened to catch sight of that boy she'd met in the carriages who rode with her on their way to Beauxbatons. Jacen Youngblood! Her eyes light up and she smiled brightly when she saw him smiling at her and give her a wave. Without hesitation she immediately waved back to him, but not too long after that was gesturing for him to come and sit by her seeing as to how he wasn't sitting with anyone in particular. Why sit alone when you can sit with a familiar face, right?
Her attention would very quickly be back on Professor Nostredame, still enamored with his neck while everything was going. She however was not prepared for him to speak to her, although it wasn't that surprising seeing as to how she was staring so intently at him. From what he told her, he said it was just a flesh wound...A FLESH wound!? It certainly didn't look like a flesh wound! She had more questions now! It was then she couldn't help asking, "Excuse me Professor, but what kind of creatures?"
Sadly, she would not get her answer because...oh dear...someone had just gotten sick, and there were apparently older students standing on another table? OH and NOW there was BEAUTIFUL blue grey wolf that appeared out of nowhere to approach the Professor. Faye watched the exchange, her eyes still fixated on the Professor until he was spoke his words to their table. Her mood a little saddened to see the Professor depart, for she still had questions you know!

Valencia still had a hard time processing this. This whole 'France' thing. Everything here was so... nice. It made her uncomfortable, like it would be hard to live here. There was just something unsettling about nice things.
Hopefully this was just a first impression feast thing??
She glanced at the Professor who was greeting them. Err. Wow. He had fabulous eyes. ... ... ... Maybe this French school wouldn't be [i]thatp.i[ bad.

*Jacen listened to Professor de Nostredame and got excited. He loved any and all magical creatures. It looks like they would be learning from the schools professors and not Hogwarts ones, at least when it came to Care of Magical Creatures. He stood up straighter remembering all those stupid educate classes his Grand-mère made him take. He failed those classes. That was when he heard someone help Hi! turning on a reflex he saw that it was the excited girl from the wand shop. Bernadette was her name after he thought about it for a minute. Seeing her wave him over and Faye wave at him he got up and went to sit by them.
"Hello you two, looks like you too have met. Thanks for waving me over, I wasn't sure where to sit and my older sister wouldn't help me."
Faye was very ecstatic to have met someone and very hopeful get to know Gemma more! Could you say possible new friend, perhaps?? She would sure hope so, please give her all of the friend she could hold, please and thank you! She could recall hearing Gemma's name being called and the house sorting around the time she went to sit with the hat.
Gemma crinkled her nose at Faye's question. This was the first time she actually stopped to consider if Slytherin was correct for her. Her whole family was in Slytherin so it seemed only natural for her to be placed there. "Yeah, I think Slytherin will make a fine house for me. The Sorting Hat mentioned Ravenclaw for a split second, but I'm no where compared to all of them." Slytherin was her home. She loved carrying on her family lineage by being placed there.
"What about you? Do you think Hufflepuff was correct?" She paused, contemplating if her next sentence would be an overstep. "You seemed very rattled by the Hat's choice?"

Faye had waved over a new boy to come sit by them. Gemma vaguely recalled where he'd been sorted. "Gryffindor, yeah?" She smiled at him. "My names Gemma! Pleasure to meet ya!"'God, trying to be nice on an empty stomach is exhausting. Can these French folk hurry up and let us eat?' Gemma forced herself to also address the other girl the really chatty one sitting close by. "Hi, Bernie! My names Gemma, nice to meet you!"
Analiese was still watching the wood nymphs when she heard a deep voice welcoming them in French. His name was apparently Professor de Notresdame. Wasn't Notresdame a cathedral in Paris? Or was it Notre-Dame? They sounded the same. "Bonsoir, Professor de Notredame.", she said, politely greeting the man as he walked past. He seemed to be telling them a bunch of very posh-sounding rules. On being given the vie that the Headmistress had sat down, she did the same and placed the napkin on her lap.

Abra had been sorted into Gryffindor, apparently. Once the hat was removed from her head, without feeling particularly excited or disappointed, she headed over to the Purple Papillonlisse table. Being that she'd never been to Hogwarts before, it didn't feel particularly strange to be seated with a variety of students around her age from all four houses. But it did make her think about what it would be like going back to Hogwarts. If that happened. But did this mean she wouldn't be getting her directions from the Gryffindor Prefects of Head of House? She did allow her thoughts be taken by this path as she sat down amongst her purple peers.
There was a lot going on at the table, with both Hogwarts and Beauxbaton Professors, and chaos on other tables. Her senses feeling very overwhelmed, and the desire to curl up in her bed with a photo of her parents and cry, but she was certain the Heads of schools wouldn't let her. Not until her plate was cleared, speeches made, and more interacting had taken place.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona listened to the Hogwarts Headmaster's speech with growing concern and confusion. Where were the Slytherins going to be living? She certainly hoped it wasn't somewhere crummy because she wanted to actually enjoy her first year at school. Fiona looked at the very healthy assortment of food and after ensuring her napkin was properly on her lap, she began to slowly eat some soup.
She looked up and saw Abra, whom she met at Florean Fortescue's during the summer holidays and gave her a smile in greeting.
Freyr looked at all the people chatting but he didn't know any of them and he was still not sure if it would be weird to step in and introduce himself and expect them to continue. Therefore, he sat there, spoke a little bit with those sitting near him. He was unsure if he was being too shy but he was a bit intimidated by all of these new school stuff already. Nevertheless, he continued to enjoy the feast and kept his ears open if someone had a conversation that he would join. Despite his shyness, Freyr was happy that he would have the time to meet all these people.

The food finally appeared, a spread of healthy salads and nothing remotely decadent looking, and Phoebe wrinkled her nose over a kale salad at the loud boy from the sorting ceremony. Her dad played Quidditch too, and wasn't even some ancient dude no one remembered, so she wasn't that impressed. Maybe she should stick out her tongue at him?
No, probably handsome professor was still watching. "Purple because of royalty, creativity, and loyalty. Butterflies because of the ability to change, the ability to grow over time. I dunno if you were sorted correctly if you can't figure that stuff out... Mark, was it? I'm sorry, I don't remember your name and you are very forgettable."
