As you make your way onto the ship and down the grand staircase you find yourself looking at a breathtaking ballroom. The dance floor is wooden and spacious for friends, couples, and anyone who feels inspired by the music to give their dancing shoes a good workout. The stage sits at the other end with the DJ ready to bring joy to your evening and take your request. Some seats sit along the side if you need a rest or want to watch your friends.
When you think there couldn't be any more fun in this brilliant room you find under the staircase a magically changing backdrop that changes from the front of the ship, the Hogwart's Castle, to Ilvermorny's castle for you and your friends to capture the evening and have some fun. Props, such as hats, glasses, boas have been set on a table for your creative side to come out in your fun photoshoot.
OOC: The DJ is not RP'd so if you want your charrie to have a request or a shout out just play it that you have.
Dressed up and ready to take on dancing which was not something he was good at but well that was not going to stop him today and look at all the people here already. He had the best date and was yeah ready like he already said. "Madelyn you are lookin good! Same goes for you Felicity!". THUMBS UP. They all did but it never hurt to say it. There was Kyle being well Kyle and looking like he wants to be left alone in his own little corner and well back to the girls since Etta and Irene were both looking good as well.
.......Even Chloe.
Tonight was going to be fun

It was quite sad, really, but Vivian was sure she'd still have a SPLENDID time with her friend!date, Felicity. Queens don't need kings, yeah? "Wow, indeed!" She took a moment to bask in the beauty of her surroundings.
"Also, you look absolutely lovely, friend!date," the blonde complimented her dorm mate. It's not everyday you see the people around you dress up for formal social events like this. "Should we go look for Skylar and Junia?" Vivian pondered on that for a moment. "Or probably not. They're old enough to handle themselves." The fourth year was still adjusting to it, especially with Skylar finally getting a boyfriend, but she didn't want to spoil the night for the other two she-snakes. She'd just have to trust that their dates won't ditch them. "Sooooo... should we dance first or grab a bite?"
Ten more eyes would have been useful, Felicity mused, eager to be looking everywhere at once. The ship was beautiful, and she was almost overwhelmed - if it hadn't been for the other students milling around, if it had been one of her parents parties, she would have felt totally out of place. As it were, she was actually feeling quite grown up. And the boys. Swoon. She'd only caught sight of Kyle and Jesus, but the Ilvermorny champions were looking even better than usual. Something about the suits...
And, well, she flushed deeply when Maddox complimented her and Madelyn, giving her friend a wave with her free hand and hiding behind her hair from Maddox's gaze. She thought the older boy looked so handsome in his formal wear, and his flattery had taken her by surprise: she wasn't exactly used to attention from boys. The compliment from Vivian was much more easily accepted, due to their friendship, and she grinned as her blush faded. "As do you, absolutely stunning." It had been so much fun, too, all of them getting ready in their dorm together. Felicity was incredibly glad she'd been placed in the same house as those girls - their friendship was already treasured.
"Probably not," she agreed with a grin at the mention of Skylar and Junia. "I'm sure they're enjoying their dates." Cue some giggling. She was sure, after all, that they would run into them later, and that if they had any problems, they'd be able to find them.
"Let's dance." Right now, Liss wasn't hungry, and she was sure some dancing might change that.

She had surprised herself in accepting his request that she accompany him as his date to this affair, but she had her reasons. She always did. None of which she would ever admit to aloud and particularly not to the likes of Jesus Rodriguez who was likely to read into such motivations and cull from them advantageous and favorable means. Correct in assumption as his interpretations may be or otherwise.
This scene was entirely foreign to Valerie. More foreign than the European soil which her combat boots were still growing accustomed to. She had attended her share of small weddings and her cousin's Bar Mitzvah, but none were neither as lavish nor as grand as this. Her uncle and aunt had insisted she pack a formal gown with her in anticipation of such a party (which at the time she had reluctantly accepted but now was admittedly thankful for) and was trying not to dwell on the cost. Doing so would make the fabric weigh heavily off her shoulders with whispers of guilt each time the lush red fabric swept across the floor.
Which was why (although she would deny it if asked) she was grateful to be on Jesus' arm at the moment. He was familiar and clearly just as much a fish out of water here as she felt. "Do you even know how to dance?" she asked with a mischievous gleam to her eyes while twirling herself to stand in front of him and guiding one of his hands to her waist in attempt to take the lead.
Not that he would ever actually answer this truthfully later one (he would deny until he believed the lie himself,) but he was nervous. Not because he felt like he would embarrass himself with his lack of experience a formal setting, but because Valerie had said yes to his invitation which meant that he had to follow through. Those nerves had followed him around from the moment he saw the notice for the event, to the moment he stepped foot on the boat. His abuela would definitely have so many questions about how it all played out, so he took it upon himself to experience as much as he could in order to weave together a great story later on.
He hadn't meant to just look at Valerie; it was supposed to be a quick ha!-look-at-how-the-bourgeoisie-live kind of look, but he'd gotten caught up in processing the fact that she was here with him. That awkwardness (the one that he thought was slowly leaving) sifted through him again, causing the sixth year to turn his face and look at something else. He supposed this was the part where he needed to compliment her on her look and she would in turn compliment him giving rise to a small ***-for-tat between them to see who could casually out-compliment the other for the night. It was perplexing, trying to figure out the right thing to do or say; perhaps he really should've taken his neighbor up on her offer over the summer (he really did need dating practice.)
Clearing his throat, he offered Valerie a curious smile. "I should be asking you the same thing," he replied casually, adjusting his hand so that it was more comfortable. "Don't tell me that the allure of the ballroom has awoken the soft and feminine side of you." A joke (although he did actually want to know the answer to that, for future references) that he hoped would go over well because he didn't know what the proper protocol was for nights like these. Was he allowed to make jokes like that? Would she be offended? And if she happened to get upset, was it his job to make her feel better?

Pheeley was at a loss of what it was that she was supposed to be doing tonight. It was oh so wonderful on this ship and it drove her crrrrazy to see how beautiful everyone looked. Although, dealing with two student bodies meant that she had lost her twin as soon as they had joined the crowds and this Robertser girl was now stood at the edge of the dance area, swaying side to side. She really wasn't good on her own. In fact, she had barely left the side of her sister, except for when she had put up a poster around the Ilvermorny temporary dorms for dates for both Jessie and she.
No luck though.
These Robertsers were not their Aunt Elodie with boys falling at their feet at school. And Ophelia was SURE that Jessie would be asked to dance first, so it was natural for her to wait around here for her womb friend.
Melbourne brushed one hand over the metallic threadwork on the skirt of her dress. I’m so lucky India and my dads sent this to me when I found out about the ball…her feet weren’t pinching in the shoes that she had charmed and transfigured, but still, the impossibly short girl didn’t want to trip and fall while she wore them. Why was she so nervous? Simple.
The brunette had a date…a DATE! A friend had asked her to be their date…wait…was this a friend date or a date date? She thought for a second as she stood at the edge of the ballroom and glanced around at all of the mingling couples. Everyone looked magical, as if they all had charmed their dresses and suits to glint and glimmer in the light like diamonds...or maybe that was just her nerves making her see things? Why was she nervous it wasn't like Kirk had asked her to date him just a ball. It was just a ball...now where was he?
Breathe Mel just breathe… she told herself as she sent her soft smile to everyone. The brunette sent a soft smile over to Althea and a slight nod to Bentley and Chloe before nervously glancing around the room.

It didn't take long before more nd more people were coming in and Madelyn realized that most people had a date. She was starting to feel more self concious about not, but she hadn't asked anyone in hopest someone would ask her, she was bit old fashion that way and her hopes had been on one boy, but he hadn't asked her so now she stood alone quietly wantching.
SPOILER!!: Irene

Tonight was going to be spectacular and she knew it. It seemed like the perfect break to the competition.
Irene walked down the stairs feeling like a princess with a ukulele. She figured that it would be good to have on her so if she got tired of dancing she could always go play it on the promenade underneath the star filled sky. When she got to the bottom of the stairs, she glanced around the room. She noted that there were two fellow competitors here Etta and Kyle who both got waves. She liked Etta a lot. Hopefully they would get the chance to talk later. And she would have to remember to go over to Kyle and congratulate him on a perfect score. It was insane! Good kind of insane though...if that made sense.
Her eyes continued to scan the room until she saw a very familiar face over in the corner. Oh hey! There was Madelyn. Wow!! Madelyn looked absolutely INCREDIBLE. "Madeyln!" she called out to her and made her way over to her fellow schoolmate. "You look stunning. Love the dress."
She couldn't help but feel a bit of relief when Irene came over to her and she smiled brightly at her friend. "This is amazing isn't it. Hogwarts truly outdid themselves for us. We have to get our picture done with that background." She had been watching it change as she stood. It was really neat and honestly, she could go for some of those props, how fun!
Looking down at her dress and then back up to Irene she beamed, "Thank you, I'm so glad I brought it in hopes we could get to dress up for something." With two schools getting together how could you not have something fancy to celebrate the occasion. "You look amazing too. Did you come with someone or am I not the only one that decided to just come alone and hangout with everyone?" She didn't want to seem self concious about it and coming alone did mean she could be with everyone not just one person, so maybe it wasn't all that bad.

When Maddox walked in and complimented how she looked she felt she should be use to this, but she still blushed a bit and smiled. "Thank you, you are looking pretty good yourself." He was looking very handsome this evening. All the boys were. "Save me a dance, won't you?" She hoped to spend most of the night on the dance floor so having people to dance with was a good idea.
Turning to Felicity she smiled brightly, "This is amazing. I just love the idea." Hogwarts might be an ocean away, but Madelyn was so happy it had given her a chance to hangout with her friend again. "Hi I'm Madelyn." She smiled at the girl with Felicity. She had seen her with Brent's new girlfriend during the competition, but honeslty Madelyn was fully trying to forget about that entire event.

Seeing the twins walk in Madelyn gave them a wave, wow did everyone look so beautiful. She should have maybe tried to find a full-length dress for herself after seeing how beautiful they looked on everyone else, but she did like her dress so she wasn't going to overthink like she normally did.
"You both look amazing. I love this event just to see everyone so dressed up. Where did you get your dresses?" Asking where was just her making small talk, but she was loving all the fashion. Looking around she spotted Jesus and smiled. Maybe she'd go over and ask him to dance, but then her smile fell when she saw who he was with. He had a date and she fully assumed Khalil had a date as well. Chewing on her lip she tried to make eye contact with him and turned back to the girls. "Have you looked around the rest of the ship?" She hadn't explored yet, but maybe she would soon.
Spotting her sister she smiled and waved at her. She hadn't a clue what she saw in Miles, he was an interesting boy that was for sure, but she was happy her sister had come with a date and seemed to be having fun.
The concept of a ball was not entirely up Storm's alley; she was not one to get all ecstatic about a dress up scene. Nonetheless, her modelling had provided her with sufficient training on such matters and it did after all make her feel good-well at least after the strenuous hours of preparation. Thank goodness that was all over now.
Pearly white smile intact, the blonde bombshell confidently made her way down the stairs. Her hair was done in an elegant braided bun, with a few front pieces loose in the front. Her tulle skirt flowed with each step, almost as if this had been rehearsed before. It was strange not having Snow there, but it was definitely not her first time attending an event alone. If anything sometimes being alone forced you to integrate with strangers, more so and with all the new English accents, Storm didn't object to this notion. As for a date, walking down the stairs without one was perfectly fine as well. Again, she wanted to meet people of a different culture rather than to be constricted by what she already knew. She was a poet, she needed a muse not something conventional.
At Last, she reached the bottom step and kept her eyes gazing.
Well then who of this assembly would entertain her to a good night?
Etta, Irene, Ambrosia, Maesi, Miles (direct acknowledgements + mentions)
It didn't take long for Kyle's presence to be noted, which, he supposed, was a good sign. First was another competitor, this one from Hogwarts. Kyle had, by this point, made an actual effort with learning and remembering the names of the other competitors (around the same time he made it a point to learn exactly what kinds of techniques and strategies everyone else had gone for in the most recent challenge.
The girl greeting him was Henrietta Kramer, Kyle knew that much. He met her wave with one of his own, and finally broke into a smile of sorts.
"Hey." Small talk was not Kyle's forte, but he at least knew one way to break the ice, as it were. "Congratulations. For the challenge. Getting through and everything." It had been a relief for him, and surely he wasn't alone in that.
And, speaking of the competition, Kyle noticed another competitor out of the corner of his eye, waving his (and the Hogwarts girl's) way. Waving back to Irene Avery was not an automatic response, but it was one that came from Kyle anyway, lifting his hand again to acknowledge his fellow Ilvermorny fifth year. As it happened, he had not had much chance to speak to many other Ilvermorny students, save the ones he bunked with and perhaps Valerie on occasion, as much as he had busied himself with studying for school and the next challenge. Perhaps that would change tonight.
The place was filling up with people, some that Kyle knew and some that he didn't, but most of whom he recognised.
To Ambrosia who made a passing comment - literally, a comment made while walking past him - Kyle huffed out a short laugh through his nose, shook his head, and drily answered her with, "Such a travesty that would be. I'd just have to remind them that we can't all be blessed with friendly resting expressions."
He left it at that, as Ambrosia was already disappearing off into the crowd, more than likely on the way to find her friends or... whatever. As he looked back out over the growing crowd of mostly-students, Kyle thought he just caught the tail end of Maesi Cunningham glancing his way, but it was over too quickly for him to be able to say for sure. Nevertheless, he watched her and Miles Jonesy - who was wearing perhaps the best shoes in the room - for a moment longer before averting his eyes once more.
Bentley gave her hand a squeeze as she slipped it into his. If there was one thing that he had learned (finally) over the six years of knowing Chloe, was when to pick his battles and where to pick them. All in all the dress...thing..she was wearing was pretty...it's just....
He nodded in response to her, but as he was about to make a verbal reply he looked up in time to catch Althea's narrowed glare. Okay so what exactly was that about?
She did look beautiful though, which was a natural thing for her he supposed.
Turning his attention back to Chloe he smiled and gave her hand another squeeze.
"I did. She said it's fine..." She also said but there were rules. He didn't need to tell Chloe that little bit however Heh.
Not fight with Chloe? That was wise. Life could be a constant fight where Chloe was involved, seriously. She could fight about the weather. Best to avoid an argument where one could. Good Bentley.
Also, Ben was, like, so lucky she couldn't read his thoughts. Eyes here, Bentley. Eyes here.
Her eyebrow raised, "Seriously?" It wasn't that Chloe was surprised...no, wait, that was exactly what she was. Rhea was always looking at her and Ben's relationship closely. Like she was waiting for the ball to drop. And, to be honest, she assumed that Rhea didn't like her much. Since, well, things.
Irene nodded several times in agreement with Madelyn. Yes, yes, photos would be fantastic. She liked the sound of that. "Yes and we must use these props! I know they're silly but it'll be fun." And who didn't like having fun? They were at a ball. They were here to enjoy themselves and not worry about the competition nor ex-boyfriends. Irene wanted to make sure that Madelyn had a great time here even after the awkward encounter with her ex and Irene's first year crush.
Irene smiled at Madelyn's compliment. "Thank you, that's very kind of you to say," she said as she twirled a long strand of brown hair. Irene grinned a little more at Madelyn's question. Heh. She had come with the best date ever. "I'm here with Isaiah Collado," she exclaimed with a bright grin and a blush. She was proud and happy to be going with such an awesome person. She really enjoyed his company and when he had asked her to dance with him at the feast.... *SWOON*. It made her feel very, very special. The smile paused on Irene's lips when she realized the second part of Madelyn's statement and worried if her friend was upset about coming alone. She hoped that. Instead of addressing that, Irene did what she always did best and looked to the future. She was an optimist. "You'll have to save me a dance. I should go congratulate Kyle and Henrietta. I can't believe he got a perfect score." Promise? "Want to do photos in ten minutes?"
Irene smiled at Kyle's wave. She would definitely have to go talk to him. She decided to make her way over to him to congratulate him. Knowing that her loud nature sometimes threw people off, she decided to go for the quieter approach. It was probably the best to do in the long run, especially since they were at a fancy ball. "Hey Kyle. I wanted to come by and say congratulations. I didn't get to watch you in the competition but I know that you were awesome," she said with a genuine grin. Irene truly meant every word that she said. Then she turned to Henrietta and beamed, "Congrats to you too, Henrietta. Love the dress!" She couldn't wait to continue competing with them. Her mind wandered to more places.... What was the next challenge going to be? Were dragons going to be involved? More dementors?
She didn't want to think of it at the moment. Right now, she just wanted to enjoy the night. "I can't believe we made it through that..." She was still in shock about the whole task. Irene glanced down at her hands, thinking of the task more so and the little girl... the dummy. She glanced up and offered both competitors a small smile. "But I guess we shouldn't think about it. What do you think of the ball?"
Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.

Seeing everyone's beautiful ballgowns was wonderful but a little nerve-wracking for the young Gryffindor. "You look absolutely stunning. That dress will be fun to twirl in."
And then there had been a question she hadn't been expecting. Had she asked Ace to be her date? Olivia got very, very awkward. Erm.. Well... Erm... She struggled to find words for a couple of seconds. "....No, I didn't ask him. I.... I chickened out, Noelle," she said, glancing down at her hands momentarily. "Not very Gryffindor-esque of me." She wished that she had the courage too but she was failing at being a Gryffindor this particular day. She was afraid of reading too much into things and what if her perceptions had been wrong about it. She'd have to wait. She brought a smile back onto her lips. "Do you have a date?"
Graceful was not something that would have described Noelle often. But there it was, coming from Olivia's lips. She laughed. "I had to watch every step I took. Believe me, I am not graceful." Despite her middle name being Grace. "But thank you! You look bloody brilliant too." She said offering her arm. Undressed?? Not in the slightest.
Olivia didnt ask Ace?? "That's okay. You can ask him to dance with you, right?" She said giving her a little nudge with her hip before walking, again, being very careful about her footing. Heels and all.
Noelle too a look around at everyone else before answering Olivia's next question. "No, I wanted to come by myself. Be independent." She said with a grin. "I plan on dancing horribly all night."Because... Noelle couldn't dance.
"Wow, everyone looks so breath-taking tonight" She mentioned to Olivia. She glanced around. Saw some of the Ilvermorny kids like Kyle, Storm, Jesus, Irene looking incredible. Those Americans had flair. Madelyn looked amazing too. There was Bentley and Chloe looking dashing as ever. Others too that she didnt actually know their names. She saw Mel too and gave her a wave. "Hey Mel! You look amazing!" She called out as she walked with Olivia.

One thing about wearing heels was that Skylar had to walk very slowly. Not that she minded because it made her actually enjoy the walk out from the common room to the Black Lake where the ship was waiting, but it also made her feel like she, and by extension Brent, were the last people arriving. "I'm sorry," she murmured again, for what might have been the hundredth time. Her feet didn't hurt, but she also didn't want to twist her ankle while walking and while it might have been smart to walk barefoot and slip on her heels once she got to the ship, well, the slow walk was nice. Plus, it was quality quiet time spent with the boyfriend. Boyfriend. It still felt weird saying that.
Once boarding the ship, she found herself at the top of the grand staircase looking down at the breathtaking ballroom and smiled. Hogwarts certainly knew how to throw a dance and the music was ... just right.
"Have I mentioned how much I really like that suit on you?" Sky smiled, as she released his hand and glanced around below from the top of the staircase.... She spotted Noelle and Vivian and Felicity and then her gaze fell upon a blond and Sky wondered if perhaps they should head to the dining area first. But, she wasn't really hungry and honestly, she couldn't avoid her all night. And being the mature person, she was TRYING to be (and failing some of the time), well, even letting her dance with Brent would have probably been okay. They were just friends, Brent had said, and she trusted him.
"You won't let me fall down the stairs, will you?" She smiled, knowing she had the rail on one hand and him on the side, so a slow descend would be good.

Vivian couldn't deny. At least some of the guys she knew from school and that pupil stand-off event looked even better today. The sight of everyone in absolutely gorgeous and formal attires just made things better, in a sense. But honestly, the Slytherin didn't come here to stare at the dudes in suits... nor was she present to stare at the heaven-sent blessing that was Professor Hirsch, either. Her main goal for the night was to have a great time with Liss as her friend!date and to probably make friends. Though, of course, the inevitable thought of not having Andrei around -- as he always was whenever it wasn't summer -- kept dawning on her. It even made their meet-ups more special, which the blonde cherished wholeheartedly.
The fourth year beamed at her friend!date. She didn't want to be all sad that she didn't have Andrei tonight, so she pushed the thought away just for now. "Why, thank you," Vivian said and curtseyed, all princessy like what her outfit was aiming for. She felt like the ice princess tonight. Also, whoever that guy Liss was having a staring contest with, she didn't know. Probably another Ilvermorny lad. Liss used to be from Ilvermorny, yeah? But the blonde totally loved that Liss was in Slytherin. The four of them from their she-snake squad had a tight bond.
Yeah, probably not. "Hope they're having fun," Vivian said. "We will have to be the first ones to respond whenever trouble comes." That was a given, because they always had each other's backs. After all, she was sure they were in it for a great time tonight, regardless of having a date or not.
Dance time? Vivian beamed. "Definitely! Let's go," she said. The middle of the dance floor was theirs. Plus, the song that was playing was too good to not dance to. "It's great having you as a friend!date, y'know?" Because the blonde was comfortable with her, and it didn't even bother her the slightest that they were the only two left from their dorm buddies who didn't have boyfriends. Having one... wasn't necessary, anyway. They were just going to have fun fun fun all night long!

Vivian was dancing along to the beat when she turned to see another unfamiliar face talking to Liss. Oh, wait. This one wasn't that unfamiliar. The blonde could perfectly remember she was Brent's ex-girlfriend from the viewing area during the first round of the competition. Who hugged her dorm mate's boyfriend, to be straight forward. Vivian offered a smile, because now that Skylar and Brent were together, there wasn't supposed to be any more issues with the latter's past relationship. "Vivian," the Slytherin said with a nod. "Nice to meet you. You were the cheerleader, yeah?"
The cheerleader notion stuck to the blonde's memory. Besides being Brent's ex-girlfriend, that was how Vivian remembered Madelyn. Obviously it was better than being called his past lady love, right?
Vivian saw her stunning dorm mate, Skylar, and immediately waved at her with a smile. She, too, gave the brunette a thumbs up because she was with Brent and she looked amazing.

Oh... wow. Dana was so amazed with the outcome of the social event. She wasn't always one to go to these sorts of things, but she made an exception for the night. She had never been to a formal event on a cruise, of all things! And what was its name again? Merlin's Pride? It sounded just as fancy and elegant as it looked. Still holding onto Sam's hand, the sixth year made her way to the grand ballroom. "It's beautiful here," she said to her date. Her date. Can you believe it?
The number of participants made Dana a little more nervous than when she and Sam met at the grounds before coming here. Not to mention this was her first time wearing such an elegant gown in front of people whom she wasn't even familiar with. However, she can't deny it. The dress Layla had lent her was beautiful, with the intricate details and gems sewed onto the fabric. Tonight, Dana really felt pretty.
She looked at her date, and was pretty much amazed too. Sam looked great, no doubt. Dana could already tell she was going to have a splendid night. "Sooooo...." The blonde started, and turned slightly pink. MEEP. "What shall we do first tonight?" No need to rush. They had all night to enjoy the food and facilities offered aboard the Merlin's Pride.

Of course they did because Miles had the brilliant idea for them to be fashionably late, and now everyone could watch them descend the grand staircase with her arm in his.
Oh, look! She spotted a few friends in the ballroom and she gave them little waves. And there was her sister. It was too bad she couldn't find herself a date, and Maesi felt a little bad. Down deep. She had her own date to focus on that she really couldn't dwell on any negative feelings right now. But it looked like she had plenty of other dateless friends here that hopefully Madelyn would still have a good time. Like.. that mysterious Kyle Baker standing off by himself. She glanced at him before resuming her focus on Miles.
She smiled to herself when he leaned to whisper to her, but.. oh. Was she not already doing that? She did think he was pretty dreamy, okay? Clearly she wasn't giving him enough attention though. "Okay," she returned as softly as a Maesi could, still smiling. "I thought I was, but I'll make it more obvious." And she let out a dramatic sigh, nearly swooning as she turned to look at him, dreamy smile in place. Good thing she was holding onto him. "They'll really be jealous when they see you dancing with me though."Wink.
He could see all the glances and looks that people were giving him and he was . LOVING it. All eyes on him. UGGHH YESSSS FEED THIS EGOOOOO.
Maesi's apparent effort at the look of adoration was mediocre, but he'll take it. "More like they'll be jealous when they see YOU dancing with ME." He led her into the center of the dance floor, footsteps like a supermodel.

Considering for a moment whether or not to warn him not to adjust his hand too much, the sixteen year old instead set her attention on his question. Which she greeted with an eye roll. "Your rhetorical musing is almost endearing," she smiled cautiously while her arms moved to drape over his shoulders and finger tips just lightly touching his back. "Of course I do and as long as you follow my lead the illusion that you can as well will be upheld. Right foot first."
Taking the bull by the horns was a part of her standard repertoire (instinctual, if you will) but right now it was more of a game of cat and mouse for the Wampus. Anything to keep Jesus on his toes and a little squirmy was beneficial to herself. Meant at least one other person here was more uncomfortable than her and she was not at the bottom of the hypothetical food chain.
"Wishful thinking on your part, perhaps," she muttered. Although admittedly he was right, joking or not. For the young woman who refused to wear a uniform skirt and always opted to wear pants, this was a considerable leap. Refusing to meet his gaze at the moment for reasons, Valerie's eyes wandered around the dance floor and of course noted the glance their direction from a certain insufferable cheerleader. Which meant she swiftly looked elsewhere, to Kyle primarily, who had earned himself quite the gathering since securing himself first place. Something she would tease him for later.
Feelings settling in her stomach, she turned her gaze back to her dance partner. "I would say it has awoken your chivalry, asking the black sheep of Ilvermorny as your date, or should I know better?"

When news of the ball came, it felt natural for Kirk to join in. After all, it meant late nights on a boat which equaled more fun than staying in his dorms alone. Speaking of alone, he didn't want to look out of place dressing nicely by himself, so when the chance came. He took it. Mel was close with him and she was alot of fun to hang out with. An extra plus was that she wasn't bad on the eyes.. Hmm. He hadn't considered how real of a date this was until after asking her. Maybe... nah, he should hold some thoughts until later.
Kirk had his appropriately shaggy hair, slicked back extra straight for the occasion with the light colored attired his parents had got him in the summer. He wanted to look even more nice and had to admit, the colors suited him, some pun intended. Once he arrived, he then kept a look out for Mel from his above average height. It only took him a few moments before he spotted her.
Walking up to her, Kirk then spoke to get her attention, "Hey Mel." ..Yet her name left his mouth at a lower volume than he intended. Weird.. He blinked before clearing his throat. "You look great.." Not bad on the eyes, indeed.. He thought before focusing on her eyes once more grinning. "You know I bet we'd win the best dressed contest if they had one." Why he felt like grinning, he didn't know or seem to care at this point. He surveyed the area, "You do dances often?" Outside the practically non-existent ones here.

SAM was here... and he had a date. A hot one at that. Oh wait... you werent supposed to say hot to a girl. Mom taught him better than that. Not that he minded having a hot date. He pulled on his collar with his free hand as he walked. His other hand was in Dana's.
Trailing behind him was two glasses of punch that he didnt know was laced with truth telling serum, that he'd levitated behind so he could keep one hand free. "First, I say.." Sam said, pulling the drinks up in front of them, one resting in front of her. He was trying to be smooth. Something his brother had taught him that he didnt do very well... was it working? "..we take a drink, and then maybe head to the dance floor?"
That would be fun. He blushed though after taking a sip of drink from his glass. "I'm not this cool usually." What? Why'd he just say that?

Mel’s eyes were scanning the dance floor when she heard his voice. Oh…she gulped slightly as she looked at the abnormally tall boy in question – what was he part giant?...wha…was he whispering her name? Why did it sound all breathy?...why did she like the way he had said her name? The brunette’s eyebrows knitted together as she thought until she heard what he said next.
She looked great…she looked great? Letting her eyes glance over his suit or was it more than the suit? ”you look great, really this color nearly matches your eyes” which were amazing…really, like they just were the type of eyes that a girl like her could get lost in. Taking a quiet almost inaudible shuddering breath as she seemed to lazily look into his eyes.
…What was I supposed to be doing?” she thought for a nanosecond when he commented that they’d win best dressed…”y-you think?” she asked a soft grin playing at the corners of her lips the question however just made her shrug. ”I….have been to one this summer? And other than that just my sister’s wedding” she admitted with a shrug to her shoulder as she glanced at him and grinned. ”how about you? Sweep anyone off of your feet with any swoonworthy dance moves?” like your face? Really, that was swoon worthy but there wasn’t any way she was going to just SAY that to him.

After debating several times over, Althea had decided that taking a night off studying would do her some good. Possibly. Not entirely sure if she wanted to even stay the whole time, she figured that she might as well make a good entrance and then leave, dramatically, like a phantom in the night. Thankfully, her parents had elected to sending a little bit extra money her way so that she could purchase a dress of her choose; and even though her father had reminded her to keep herself moderately covered up, she chose to disregard that gentle warning - she refused to give up on a chance to be dramatically glam just because her father didn't approve of her dress.
In a terribly cliché sort of move, the fifth year found herself wandering into the ballroom. It was ornately decorated and Althea could appreciate all the attention to detail; it had a very ostentatious 20th-century-romantic-night-on-the-water sort of vibe. She noticed a few familiar faces - was mildly surprised that Etta could manage to walk in her shoes - and she wondered if she should go and socialize or just hang off to the side by herself. Not too far away, the Hufflepuff spotted Aslan. The older girl was an even bigger enigma than Derf, and Althea found herself drawn to her. She decided that being around Aslan was much more interesting than being alone.
It didn't take her long, but she managed to walk - without tripping or doing anything remotely embarrassing - over to the Gryffindor, but not before catching sight of Bentley and Chloe. Without realizing it, her eyes had narrowed, and she turned her face - no need to get upset, she could talk to him calmly later, maybe - and smiled at Aslan. "I love your dress," she said, trying not to gush - because she did, the dress was beautiful - "did you come alone, too?"
Aslan was itching, her mouth craving a taste she knew she couldn't have right then and there. Leaning against the wall still, she wondered just how long it would be until she gave in and stepped out or if she would at all- perhaps someone or something would come along and distract her just enough to keep the Gryffindor in the here and now. She didn't want to disappear, not really but it was easier and smoother than going through a night alone in a pair of heels she should have charmed.
The last time she'd come to a place like this she'd been just as bored and just as eager to leave but she'd had company then and whether she had admitted it then or not, Bastien Toussaint had done everything just right to keep her mind and soul perfectly engaged. Something she doubted she would find in current company, not that her fellows were uninteresting, some certainly were- but from what she had observed this was a night not of quiet reflection or casual chat, but of pink tufted romance and dramatic entrances.
Speaking of, Althea Kenning was speaking to her. Aslan blinked quickly, surprised by the younger girl's presence. She hadn't been paying attention. Not even a little. Aslan blinked again, focusing on the tall brunette before her with the same impassive fascination in which she held all humanity. "Hullo. I didn't see you there." Obviously, of course, but the words felt as if they had needed to be said. Althea was... Interesting, her colors were soft, warm and shifting. She seemed.... Sadder and smarter than others gave her credit and perhaps that's what had drawn and kept Aslan's attention that first night they had properly talked. Oh, Althea was talking about her dress. She should say something about it, but what. "I don't." she said simply, her tone light and devoid of feeling. "It was a gift from someone, they loved it." which had been enough for Aslan, a point she felt had been carried across in her short, but uncold reply.
"Yes, I couldn't think of anyone appropriate I'd want to spend the evening with." She answered honestly, the words flowing easily from the tip of her tongue. "why aren't you with anyone?"

It was nice having a hand to hold. This wasn't exactly the first time Dana held a boy's hand. She'd done so before with Mikael Gamp while they were exploring Russia the summer before fourth year. Of course, it had always been a friendly kind of gesture for her. The only thing different was that she was holding the hand of her date. That made a lot of difference, she supposed. Besides, she had no intention of letting Sam's hand go yet. She'd just wait until he'd release first.
And the next time she knew, there was a levitating glass full of punch in front of her. The sight of it made Dana giggle, and it made her cheeks flush a tiny bit of pink. "Yes, a drink it is," the blonde said, finally taking the glass. "Thank you." And yes, that was definitely smooth. Those kinds of gestures worked well with Dana. It was impressive. Aside from that, she wouldn't say no to a dance with Sam. They were in a ballroom, after all.
Not this cool usually? Dana looked at him and tilted her head. Cute. "That's fine, I don't mind. I actually think you're doing a great job," she smiled, before taking a sip from her drink as well. Mmm, the punch was refreshing. "And I usually don't go to social events. They make me nervous sometimes. I kinda am now, really, but you being here makes it more comfortable."
BLINK. What... did... she just say? The Pukwudgie then looked down on the floor, trying to hide the obvious red blush that was dominating. Really, Dana, really?

She smiled when Noelle said that she wasn't graceful. Olivia could understand that because she wasn't graceful herself. "I feel that. I'm not graceful myself. I earned the nickname "Professional Gravity Tester" from my father at the age of four." She laughed. It wasn't exactly ladylike but alas not all of them could be perfect ladies. Noelle's comment about her looking brilliant made Olivia feel more confident in the idea that she wasn't underdressed. Good. Thank you. She smiled, linking arms with the older girl.
She glanced down when Noelle mentioned Ace. Yeah, she should have asked him. Olivia saw that now but she had been scared. She didn't know why exactly. She just had a sinking feeling in her stomach. She had never been one to exactly show her emotions to someone when she felt a certain way about them. She just kind of let it be. Perhaps she ought to change that. That'd be something good to work on. But in the meantime, the idea of a dance made her lips turn upwards into a grin. "That's an excellent idea," she winked. "Are you going to ask someone special to dance?" She assumed that Noelle probably had a whole bunch of guys after her. Who wouldn't like her? She was kind, beautiful, hilarious, really smart, and just wonderful.
Yes. They all did look breath-taking. "They all do. It's amazing. I like seeing everyone dressed up. It's a nice change," she offered with the slightest of smiles. And then she saw Noelle call out to Mel. She did look REALLY good. Plus the girl was with a cute date. He looked quite taken with her and Olivia didn't recognize him. "Who's Mel's date?" she leaned over whispering to Noelle.
He busted some moves, flipping his hair side to side. "Speaking of jealousy...is there anyone here you're specifically looking to make jealous?" He noticed the lingering looks. *eyebrow wiggle*
Maesi lived for attention and, well, she was getting a fair amount of it right now. Of course, she could always use more, but she was definitely soaking up what she was getting. She was sure everyone was still looking at the pair of them as she headed out to the dance floor with Miles, and were people whispering about them too? Ugh. She loved it.
She had smiles for everybody as they walked through the ballroom, stopping in the middle of the dance floor. Him dancing with her, her dancing with him...it was the same difference as far as she was concerned. She already knew she was a fantastic dancer and she had high hopes for her date too. "Either way," she smiled. "I'm sure everyone will have a hard time tearing their eyes away." She'd try not to show him up though having been in competition dance when she was younger. Oh! What they needed was a spotlight. Ahh! Then they'd really sparkle. Omg.
Maesi pulled out a few moves of her own, not missing a beat as she looked back to Miles at his words. Jealousy was a fun game, wasn't it? She was sure she had seen Kyle staring at them earlier and not that she felt a real need to try to make him jealous - she barely knew him - but she did want him to notice her.. or.. them. He was a winner after all, earning full marks in that competition, and she had yet to tell him congratulations. Not to mention she thought he was super mysterious. And she wasn't even going to get started right now on his full, pouty lips. Of course.. he wasn't the only one with pouty lips here.
She gave another quick glance in the direction of that boy and all the attention he was currently getting, before returning her gaze to her date, a smirky smile growing on her face. She did intend to have fun with him tonight regardless of what anyone else thought. She wouldn't have asked him to go with her if she didn't. "Maybe," she drawled, moving closer to him. "Do you think showing up looking all fabulous will be enough though? Or do you have something else in mind?" Being a great dancer certainly didn't hurt, but you know, curious question.

Deciding she might as well make her way out to the ballroom in an effort to find Maddox, she regretfully tore herself away from the gallery, making note to visit in the Hogwarts Library more over the next six months. She would just say she was doing research on possible wizarding careers, even though she already had an idea as to what she wanted to do.
Spotting him, unsurprisingly with other Ilvermorny and Hogwarts girls, she approached from behind, touching his arm lightly to alert to his presence. Although, she considered this to be only a friend date and had asked him more for the formalities because she didn't want to be the only champion without a date. "Hello Maddox. What did I miss?" She smiled warmly. "You clean up nicely," she winked, before turning upon the group. "Looking lovely as always, Madelyn. Felicity! Good to see you again! How are you liking Hogwarts?" Although technically they were all kind of here, but Felicity was here as a student, not a guest.

Again, the sixth year found himself out of his element. He'd danced before (of course he had, he was Puerto Rican, it was in his blood,) but formally and like that? No. He was really a fish out of water. Jesús tried his best to focus Valerie's words and not on where she positioned her arms. It was difficult, but he managed. "I'm fairly certain it's more thanalmost," he offered as a rebuttal, only because he knew that getting under her skin would help him flip the his current situation in his favor.
Following her lead would be easy (he wouldn't pretend to know how or where to put anything for this sort of dance,) he just hoped she wouldn't use this as a means to stay a step (or three, if he were honest) ahead of him. With his eyebrows raised (he was surprised at her answer) he replied casually again. "Maybe they should have ballroom dancing as the second challenge." Now that would've been a challenge that probably would've brought the boy to his knees. As best as he could, Jesús followed her instructions. He set a small goal, just for that night, to keep up with her and not trip over his feet. It was a difficult goal, but he was determined to achieve it.
The corners of his lips twitched upward, giving rise to a knowing smile. Because he didn't want her to think it was because of her he turned his attention elsewhere; he caught sight of Kyle (he wasn't surprised to see that he'd attracted a small group around him) and other students whose names were on the tip of his tongue but he couldn't remember at the moment. "I've always been chivalrous, you just refuse to acknowledge that part of me." And chivalrous or not, he would've still asked her to accompany him for reasons he either didn't know or refused to know. He looked at her as he spoke. "Don't pretend that you aren't even a little excited."

A mischievous smile stretched across his face. So, the girly was using him to make somebody jealous. Typical of her to pick him, the most cutest Jonesy of them all.
He casually boogied around, looking to see where Maesi was looking off to. Ah, the champion. Go figure. Sure he's cute. Sure he came with top marks in the first challenge. Sure he has the Adonis bod, but Miles still number oneeeeeee.
With great subtlety, Miles dipped Maesi down, making sure Kyle had a very solid look. "Does he even know you exist?" He pulled her back up to drop down himself and do some twerks. Vogue, vogue, vogue. DEATH DROP!
The Wampus 5th year snapped back up to talk to her again, "I got it. Prince Charming and Princess Fiona's dance routine from Shrek 2." It was perfect extra-ness.

Of course he was getting under her skin and the small falter in her smirk was more than sufficient in giving that away. But otherwise Valerie's exterior appeared unaltered by his words. "Your overconfidence will be your downfall one of these days." A thought that reminded her of the fleeting seconds before casting her own patronus of the genuine concern she felt at her inability to recall whether or not Jesus could cast a corporeal patronus or not (or one at all for that matter). But it was the thinking of what others could and could not do (as it was not an exclusive thought in relation to him and that was the story she was sticking to) that had distracted her during her initial casting. Knowing Kyle and Aiden were only capable of of non-corporeal forms, for example. "What kind of filling would you prefer in your humble pie?"
Moving one of her arms slowly from around his neck to trace down his arm and take his hand in hers, Valerie decided to see just how much more she could knock him off his game and initiated a bit a spin. Him being the object to be spun that is. "And if they did I would only continue to make you dizzy," she badgered lightly while given him another spin. "You could borrow my dress if you thought you could pull the color off.[/b]"
And rather than continue to be difficult for the sake of it (perhaps because the setting was bringing out her softer side) the sixteen year old laughed softly as her arms returned around his neck. A rare moment of no commentary from the Wampus. Eyes lingering on his perhaps a little too long, Valerie looked elsewhere as she spoke. "I am pretending nothing."
