The air is crisp and cold, but the wind is slight and the sun is shining on this beautiful winter day. Just outside the entrance to the Quidditch stadium, Tiara stands manning a roaring fire, all the better to keep warm as she waits. Nearby, a makeshift rack holds the school's entire collection of brooms, looking distinctly lonely and ready to finally be in action. The professor has donned Quidditch robes for the occasion, but that's not the only difference you will notice.
Off to the side of the path, what appears to be a giant obstacle course has been set up, with everything several feet off the ground. Clearly this is meant to be part of the lesson. A sign in front of the entire setup reads, "DO NOT USE THIS COURSE WITHOUT PERMISSION TO DO SO FROM PROFESSOR TANNER." Another noteworthy feature, though not visible, is that each element of the course was vigorously checked for hexes, curses, and otherwise dark magic. The school has clearly taken the years-old threat seriously.

She didn't misread the noticeboard, right?
Professor Tanner announced that the flying lesson was opened and she was very excited like a mad cow. Come on, it's flying lessons! Though she'd ever had her basic flying lesson at the Quidditch camp, but the young lioness couldn't help but very enthusiast with this.
Too bad that the first years weren't allowed to bring their broomstick to Hogwarts. Ava had one that she usually used to practice flying with her big brother back at home. So, maybe she could bring it next year? Hopefully if this lesson would be opened for the next years. Wrapping herself in Gryffindor scarf and the robes, she walked to the stadium. And... was she the first student come here? Gosh, she might be too excited for this. "Hello, Professor! I didn't know that you're also a flying instructor." She greeted Tanner.

A flying lesson...
Great Hippogriffs!
They hadn't had one of those in ages! Adi was doubly full of energy and excited for this one so it was no surprise when he turned up at the lesson and being one of the first arrivals. Not even the cold threw him off. "Hello, Professor!'' he greeted the woman with a grin. "Hey, prankster Burton.'' Hehe. Adi had to tease his friend, yes?
Anyway, he turned his attention to an obstacle course not far from where they were standing observing it with interest. Hmmm. This was going to be a mighty enjoyable lesson!

Janelle was excited, well more excited than her usual level of excitement. She was going to have a flying lesson. That was awesome, at least she hoped it would be. Knowing that flying had been forbidden at Hogwarts for quite some time, she wondered what had changed. Whatever it was, Janelle was glad of it.
Reaching the Quidditch stadium, Janelle realized that she was one of the early birds. "Hello Professor Tanner", she said enthusiastically. "I can't wait for my flying lesson." Then greetings went out to her friends. "Hi Adi, Hi Ava." Janelle was bouncing around because it was a rather chilly day and staying warm was a priority. She looked up at the sky in anticipation. It was a beautiful day for flying.

Flying Lessons, what a joy. "G'daay." Justin almost sang to everyone as he slipped on in. He could remember his first time on the broom back in the day. But that nostalgic moment was only one of the little reasons on him being here. It was on the school crounds and from the incident that took place here a few years ago.. Yep. The Groundskeeper was here to make sure nothing too funny went on again.
Entering with his arms folded, he leaned against one of the nearby walls,"Professor Tanner." He addressed smiling with a soft wink at her. It looked like things were going to be a-okay with him around too. "Hope you don't mind me stopping by." Just to be courteous and all. This was too good of a show to pass up regardless of the circumstance.
Colt was kind of pumped for this. He heard about the flying courses but he never thought he would have the chance to take the course. He didn't have his own broom though yet but he will soon. As he made his way to the field he noticed one teacher that looked familiar but he didn't know her name. He would learn it soon enough. He made a mental note that he needed to greet her. He waved and said, "Hello Professor..." He began to observe the obstacle course and it looked pretty cool. He was gonna have fun testing it out today.

Ehhhhhh! FLYING!
Hady was so ready! When she read the noticeboard about the flying lessons there was no doubt in her mind that she was be attending them. Flying was one of the things she enjoyed doing. The brunette had even written her father asking him to send her broom to her. Which was now firmly in her hand as she made her way out n to the field towards everyone else.
Having cast warming charms on herself already the cold showed to be of no effect on her today. Not that it would've made a difference anyhow. She didn't mind the cold one bit. "Hello everyone! Hello Professor Tanner!," Hady greeted them all with a grin, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet in contained excitement.

OLIVER WAS PRETTY SURE HE HAD NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITED IN HIS LIFE!
Okay, that was a lie. He could actually think of approximately six occasions on which he had used that phrase. And all of them had been pretty exciting. But that didn't mean he wasn't also equally as excited now. REALLY EXCITED! Hogwarts was supposed to be a place where he could learn magical things, which included flying. But with the whole quidditch threats a few years ago, that had not been a possibility. Which had been really disappointing. UNTIL NOW! They were going to have a flying lesson! It was not the same as being able to play quidditch again but it was still very exciting. He had missed flying.
"Good moooorning professor!" It was still technically morning, though that would only be true for a few more minutes. Oliver was practically bouncing with excitement, was that obvious? He eyes the rack of brooms. How long until they got to fly?

Zander hadn't read the notice board wrong... Right? You'd think after reading the same notice over and over again he'd feel confident in the fact that his eyes weren't deceiving him. But well, y'know, this was kind of a strange one.... Flying lesson? That hadn't happened since well, forever.
But as he walked towards the pitch, he noticed quite a few others who were walking just ahead of him. That was enough to confirm it. They were actually doing this. They were actually gonna have a flying lesson again.
Zander Adair wasn't entirely sure about it either. 'Cause learning to become a proper flyer was the goal, of course. But seeing as lessons hadn't really been a thing lately, everything he probably had learned the first two years was completely lost on him. Most likely. Honestly, the only thing he really remembered was that Hogwarts brooms had a tendency to be sorta temperamental. Or maybe it was Zander who was the temperamental one... Ahem.
But whatever it was, he was PUMPED. Super EXCITED to learn how to fly all over again fly. "Hello Coach Tanner," could he say coach? They were flying after all? "Boy I never thought I'd see this day again," he smiled. But also he hoped that he was ten times better than when he did actually try before because LOL Zander Adair was a hazard to himself and the sky.
And like no one was gonna draw attention to the fact that he and Adi were one of the only two older students there right? Like uhhhh... Other people were gonna come too?

Flying was not one of Dante's favorite things to do. He did like launching himself into the air. But just flying on a broom. Not so much. shrug. He was weird. But the same could be said about he not liking a number of classes in this crazy castle. But he was here for Flying Basics and he hoped it would be a joke and he could get fly around a little and that would be it. He had flown before, back home and enjoyed it only when bored. It was just not one of his favorite things to do like he has been saying. They even allowed Quidditch at this school back in the day. But not anymore apparently.
Threats or something of the like.
"Hey Professor Tanner"
Look at that she was even wearing quidditch robes. She was be excited or something to get dressed up for this basics class.

Did Sophie Brown need a lesson on the basics of flying? Absolutely not. But was there any way she was going to miss the first opportunity to fly her broom since THE BEGINNING OF TIME? Or like... MANY, MANY TERMS?
AbsoLUTELY not.
So here she was, her broom propped over her shoulder - she'd brought it with her every term, just in case a miracle happened - and here the miracle was in the form of Professor Tanner tending to a fire with school brooms nearby. THIS WAS REALLY HAPPENING. THEY WERE GONNA BE ALLOWED TO FLY AGAIN.
Her footsteps carried her into a brisk jog to reach the group faster before Soph came to a halt beside Zander, her face alit with pure energy and enthusiasm. "We're gonna get to FLY AGAIN!" she cheered, hoisting her broom up in the air triumphantly, the massive grin never leaving her face. SHE WAS SO EXCITED. IT WAS A DREAM COME TRUE.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Everyone who knew him and knew about his fear of heights would be looking at him like he was crazy right now and to be honest, he also thought he was crazy for showing up for the basic flying lessons. Actually, he had thought long and hard about it and he really wanted to get over his fear but the only way to do that would be to confront himself. He had climbed the treehouse, survived the floating in Professor Evil’s astronomy class, done the duelling challenge and now he thought he was not ready for something bigger. And flying a broom would be perfect.
But although he was proud of himself for showing up, he did not look like his confident and good looking self. He looked like how he had been during his stress days in his OWL year. Ready to either snap or cry. But he was holding it in and walked to the rest of the class on the quidditch pitch. He tried to say hello to the Professor but only a squeak came out and he cleared his throat before moving away to sit on the empty school bag he had with him and began to breathe in and out to calm himself. Don’t mind him, just doing some meditation here.

Flying lesson
.
FLYING lesson!!
To say Benny was excited was an understatement. He had missed flying on a broom since quidditch had been cancelled and they weren't really allowed to fly otherwise. And it wasn't like he could fly as a dragon all that much. So the seventh year had made his way down to the quidditch pitch with a slight bounce to his step despite the chill in the air. Despite getting to the lesson early due to energy, the Gryffindor wasn't the first one there or even the first few people on the pitch.
There was a head boy and girl and he gave his fellow seventh years a polite nod. And then several of the younger students that no doubt hadn't had any lessons at all due to the ban unless it was somewhere else. And finally a bestie. "Hello Professor Tanner," he greeted the woman dressed in familiar robes with a polite smile before making his way over to said Hufflepuff.
"Hey." Was Adi as excited as he was for the lesson? The only thing better would have been if it was a COMC class.
Okay so flying Cinna totally knew how to do that. She practically grew up on the pitch. Spending days and days at the tornadoes facility with her dad. He got Cinna on a broom as soon as she was old enough to start walking.
Even thought Cinna was a seventh year she had missed out the flying lessons, and quidditch her first two years, since she started her third year. She missed the whole experience which absolutely sucked. She might not got to have played on the house teams but she was definitely getting to fly at the school pitch. Which was a dream of hers.
So there she was skipping yes skipping to the pitch with her broom over she shoulder. THIS WAS REALLY HAPPENING. She was going to have to tell Bart all about. She was flying a Hogwarts. He would be jealous. Okay probably not but he should be because he wasn't there to fly with her. So yeah.
She had be beaming all the way to the pitch. WHOA. Obseltlr course she wanted to do that! Spotting Tanner she headed over to her to say hello. "Hey professor Tanner." She beamed and smiled at her. And moved on to the group of students. "Is this the real life? She said out loud to the group in general. hehe the queen quoting queen. Yeah she was excited. She could not wait for this lesson to start! THIS WAS REALLY HAPPENING.

Maggie wasn't even sure just WHAT exactly she was doing here. Of course she'd heard of Quidditch – had even been dragged to a match once – but that didn't mean she like WANTED to fly herself. The whole witches on broomsticks thing was SO overrated. There was literally no need for her to get on a broom.
Yet, she was still here. Because somehow she was curious.
"Hello, Professor." Maggie greeted her evenly, although her eyes kept flicking over to the brooms. Were they seriously going to FLY on those things??? She quickly moved over to stand next to Dante without saying a word. Her eyes were locked on those broomsticks.

EXCITED did not cover exactly how Rooney felt about this lesson. He'd NEVER been on a broom. Mama didn't like heights and his Aunt was afraid of brooms. And he'd always been so invested in performing that the idea of flying had never crossed his mind properly. AND ACTUALLY he knew most definitely that it was going to be both difficult and exciting.

They said it didn't happen anymore at Hogwarts. They told him not to hold his breath but here he was bounding over to the Quidditch Pitch with a big ole grin on his face. Couldn't be late for flying, it would only be the coolest lesson ever--sorry Muggle Studies. His father took him flying ALL the time but now he was gonna learn to fly on his own broom and it was gonna be the most epic thing ever.
"Hello Professor!" He greeted with a warm dimpled smile. Did it occur to him she was the Arithmancy Professor but was offering flying lessons which meant he should ask questions? NOPE. Flying. A wave was spared for the Groundskeeper as well but Merlin was he excited.
"Olly!" The boy came right up to his friend, hardly able to contain his excitement. "Can you believe it? Flying!"

They were allowed to fly now? It was a thing?
The day he had heard the news he had written home and had his broom sent over, and so here he was, marching to their meeting point outside the stadium. He FELT he knew the basics, which is what this was, right? But it never hurt to brush up on his skills, holiday flying wasn't nearly enough to help him develop form. He had a bright grin for Professor Tanner, "Hey, Professor," he greeted all the while scanning the faces of those that were gathered.
He spotted Maggie.... ...... next to Dante, and so he claimed the free space beside her. "Hey," he greeted the blonde, giving her a quick hug and a peck on the cheek. He didn't care if he got into trouble over it, he wanted to greet HIS girlfriend.

FLYING!
He. Was going. To be FLYING!
M E R L I N! This was like a dream come true!
The Quidditch camp he attended -- where he was taught by SELINA SKYLAR -- had left him hungry for MORE flying. It was just a shame that Hogwarts didn't do that. And it was because of that that the twelve year old was running all the way down towards the grounds. Did he care that he had rudely barged past some people? Or that his legs were staring to hurt from all of that running? NO! Not a single care was given here because HE WAS GOING TO FLY!
The beam on his face only grew wider as he caught sight of what looked like an obstacle course as he neared the spot where the others were. COOL! Obstacle courses were naturally fun so he had high hopes that this one was going to be the same, maybe even BETTER. So don't let him down, okay Tanner? Okay.
Speaking of, "Hey, Professor! I didn't know you were interested in flying as well." In fact, he hardly knew ANYTHING about the lady apart from the fact that she was smart and liked numbers.

Even though she had never really taken much of an interest in flying, Tia was still intrigued because of the fact that this was their first flying lesson since she'd been at Hogwarts. Not to mention she did know that Pao played keeper for the Hufflepuff team in his first year, and if big brother could do it, then surely she could do it.
Making her way out to the quidditch pitch, no broom in hand because she hadn't had a need to own one since there was no flying before this point at Hogwarts, she smiled at sight of the Arithmancy professor there. "Hello Professor Tanner! Is it always this chilly when flying?" Because she'd imagine it would be even colder in the air and her face might freeze off. Thank goodness for mittens.

YES SHE WAS HERE, IN FACT. Just NOW, in fact. She SKIPPED excitedly to join those already present, well and truly eager to gt to FLY. She knew that they hadn't been allowed to do things at Hogwarts for AGES so she felt VERY lucky. Also very confident. She knew things about brooms. Quidditch camp had proved that. Even if she'd never really figured out the stopping and getting off part of it.
So she appeared at Roo's shoulder.

Flying!"

So, when were they going to get started?

Making her way out to the quidditch pitch, no broom in hand because she hadn't had a need to own one since there was no flying before this point at Hogwarts, she smiled at sight of the Arithmancy professor there. "Hello Professor Tanner! Is it always this chilly when flying?" Because she'd imagine it would be even colder in the air and her face might freeze off. Thank goodness for mittens.

Even if she'd never really figured out the stopping and getting off part of it.
So she appeared at Roo's shoulder.
"Hi!" Did he SEE the OBSTACLE COURSE?!
This was going to be THE best day!
WHERE WAS DAVIE? HER PARTNER IN CRIME?
Ah they were arriving! "Please grab a broom, everyone!" she called as students began to arrive. "But absolutely NO FLYING until I give the word!" And every few minutes she repeated these instructions, just in case anyone got ideas..
Tiara dished out welcomes as they came to her, particularly glad to see Mister McLeod's arrival. "Not at all, thank you for joining." Really, she had asked for staff members that were available to come down. Extra eyes and all that.
"Okay, gather around, everyone!" she called, indicating a semi-circle shape out in front of her. Might as well get some background while they waited for stragglers. "Welcome everyone! For those of you who do not take my classes, my name is Professor Tanner and I teach Arithmancy here. However, that was not always the case!" Far from it, actually. "I spent many years as a Quidditch official in the European circuit, then as flying instructor and Quidditch official here at Hogwarts. As you know, we received a threat against all broom-related activities. However, the Ministry assures us that we have nothing to fear at this time." But just in case, there were extra precautions in place; they were not using the stadium like normal, and other staff members would be on high alert.
"But enough of that. Please go grab a broom if you have not done so yet," she instructed, nodding towards the rack of now-picked-over brooms. "Please divide yourself into groups: if you have little or no flying experience, please stand on my right; everyone else on my left. Chop chop!" Tiara finished, clapping her hands for emphasis.
OOC: Please title your posts by which group you are in (beginner group or experienced group). Feel free to still RP arriving!
Soph smiled and returned Benny's nod, then gave a quizzical look at the arrival of Roo shoving into Zander. What was that all about? The Head Girl gave Zander a confused expression, but dismissed the thought soon enough as Tanner got class started.
THIS WAS SO EXCITING.
People were grabbing brooms, the groundskeeper was joining them, and Tanner was ALSO very, very clearly pumped about doing this. JUST LOOK AT THE EXCITEMENT ON HER FACE. The woman was clearly SO proud to be doing this and probably super relieved, too. She was IN HER ELEMENT. BACK DOING THE FLYING THING. Could life have been any better in this moment?
Well, probably. If it wasn't so cold outside. But still, the good heavily outweighed the bad here, all right?
When they were instructed to divide into groups, Soph didn't hesitate to move right on over to the professor's left side, propping up her broom right beside her. The right side where people had little or no flying experience was NOT for her, nope nope. Experienced Chaser here. She was just ready to get back on a broom with permission after ALL THIS TIME.
Flying Lessons....
"Hello everyone!" Leo chirped cheerfully to the gathered group of students as he made his way over towards where Justin was standing. Flying was a past time that he had quite enjoyed in his youth. There was just something special about riding on a broom and feeling the wind in your face and feeling of being free. Leo was though not there to reminisce in memories or ride a broom.
He was there to insure the students safety after the incident years ago now that had because of its serious nature cancelled all types of flying at school. Flashing a smile to Tiara he said "Professor Tanner, I hope you don't mind my presence." Moving to stop next to Justin he said in a hushed tone to not interrupt the in case class was starting. "Hey Justin," letting his eyes sweep over the student's he asked Leo colleague curiously "Do you still remember the first time you flied on a broom?"
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
It seemed there were loads of students excited for this lesson. And who could blame them? There hadn't been one of these for a LONG time. Adi grinned at Janelle as she jumped around. "Hallo! You're awfully full of energy today.'' He grinned broadly when he saw Benny approach. He knew the other guy would be super excited for this lesson even though he would not be showing it too much. "Hi, Dragon. Ready to be flying again?'' On a broomstick this time, of course. Oh, there was Mr Kitridge! The librarian got a cheery wave from him.
...................
Right!
It was time to grab a broom. Now, wait. Two actually, since the bestie needed one too. Adi did so then grabbing Benny by the arm, pulled him over to the left side of Tanner. Plenty of experience here from these two. Especially Benny. Did yal remember those days when Benny played Quidditch and certain commentators mispronunced his name and Adi would try to correct them? LOL.
Those were some of the days he would never forget.
