It was time for another Arithmancy class! Tiara was excited for this one, though that wasn't really anything new. It was normal for her to look forward to lessons. But she had a special interest in this topic for some reason, so hopefully the students liked it as well.
The classroom is warm and cozy against the chill that has hung in the air the past week. Contrary to the normal setup of desks in neat rows, today there is a small clearing in the center of the room. On the floor in the open space is a taped-off square, further divided into nine smaller squares. Each section has a number, one through nine, but other than that there is no indication of today's topic.
Professor Tanner stands behind the podium, prepared to greet you as you walk in.
OOC: The lesson will officially begin in around 8 hours. The lesson has officially started. Assume this is not the first lesson of the term, so Tiara will know your character by now.

Arithmancy was alright. He didn't hate it or anything like that and it wasn't the hardest thing he'd ever done at Hogwarts either which meant there was little, if any, apprehension as he entered the Arithmancy classroom ready to learn some more about numbers.
"Hi Professor!" The boy greeted with a grin so wide his dimples were made obvious. "Are we playing hopscotch today?" The boy took a seat closer to the centre of the room so he could see the square that was made in there.
"Don't reckon I've ever seen it make that shape before but we'll figure it out." The boy snapped his fingers for his quick quotes quill and notepad to float closer. He needed it taking a sketch of this for later in case it was important--and he needed the quote from the Professor too. You know, just her take on the game and why she chose to draw it in such a way.
In the meantime he pulled out his text and a piece of parchment. Totally ready for this lesson.

Stifling a yawn from his short nap, one seventh year Slytherin made his way to the next class of the day, which was Arithmancy. With his book, writing equipment, wand, and a half-awake brain, Ethan pushed open the door to the classroom, knocked three times, and peeked inside.
Nope, he didn’t need to be extra vigilant, seeing that the professor was already inside waiting for their arrival. Making sure that this class didn’t have any ridiculous new rule to abide to, Ethan showed himself in, and gave a polite wave and nod to the woman up front. “It’s nice to see you again, Professor.” Hi, hello, suuuuuup!
After giving his greetings, the seventh year chose a seat at the back, giving the younger and shorter students the front seats.
And…what is that thing in the middle? Hmm. “Grid Arithmancy?” he asked no one in particular, since the room was still empty except for him, the professor, and small Gryffindor boy. Ethan sat back, opened his book and did a quick scan of the chapter that discusses it.

Arithmancy was certainly better than Runes. Uh huh. Adi, as usual, bounded into the classroom, his signature grin in place. Hmmm... what was with the space and square on the floor? He was CURIOUS!
"Hello, Professor!'' He had shifted his attention to the woman. "How are you?" Aside from the classroom, Gobstone matches were where he most often saw her. So... who else was here? Ah, Blaise and Ethan! The Hufflepuff headed for the Gryffindor. "Nice quill, Blaise,'' he said as he slipped into the seat beside him. Adi didn't think he had commented on the writing object before. Heeeeey, Ethan! He waved to his seventh year friend.

Arithmancy. The lesson she had trouble in back in her first year. It still wasn't her best subject or her favorite but she did well. Hopefully today's lesson would prove to be easy.
Walking through the door the first thing she saw was the large square made from tape with smaller squares and numbers inside. Tilting her head in silent question she shrugged her shoulders figuring she'd find out soon enough what this was about.
With a small grin and a wave she greeted Professor Tanner, "Hello Professor." Selecting her usual seat near the middle of the room Hady sat down and set her page at her feet. Reaching down she pulled out her textbook, parchment and quill setting them out on her desk. She was ready for the time being.

Daxton had not been expecting to enjoy Arithmancy as much as he did. There was something about building up a profile, relating everything back to numbers, and hiding hidden meaning that he found rather appealing. Not that that was at all evident by the impassive expression on his face as he entered the classroom and immediately noticed the change in set-up.
He eyed the clearing suspiciously, unprepared for this change. What was this about? Was it too late to leave? Daxton glanced up at Tanner, and then back at the clearing, and squinted a little bit. Well... he would not leave, but only because he appreciated the subject of Arithmancy. He was, however, remaining near the door, and claimed a spot there now. Daxton did not greet the professor, or indeed anyone. He never did, after all; only remained silent and focused only on himself as he ever was.

"Hello, Professor Tanner," Davie greeted his assistant Head of House as he came into Arithmancy. No fun rules for this class, then? What a relief. He looked around for a place to sit and noticed Blaise. He couldn't sit by him. Ew, no. Never. Brow furrowed, Davie looked for a place opposite the Gryffindor.
Looked like he was going to be sitting by.... Daxton, today, near the door as usual. Davie shrugged and took a seat beside his dormmate.

You know it was hard not to yawn when coming to Arithmancy because all these numbers and whatever else it was, were sometimes boring to this fourth year Slytherin. Sometimes it can be alright. But he kept his expectations low on that.
"Hey, Professor Tanner"
Dante went to find a seat noticing the change in the set up in class and just shrugged.
It not like he sat in the middle of the class anyway.
He just took a seat and waited for another Arithmancy lesson to start.

Arithmancy was like MATH, yeah? Math was BASICALLY science, and Ellery liked science, so she was very excited for this class.
"HI PROFESSOR," she said, walking in the door, then she found an empty seat and plopped herself into it. She hadn't braided her hair yet today. She started doing that.
Norah entered the Arithmany classroom with a tiny wrinkle between here eyebrows. This was really not the day for Arithmancy. There wasn't usually a day for arithmancy at all, but today was an especially bad day for it. Her brain just wasn't feeling up to the whole numbers thing. Or anything else, for that matter.
She tried to stand up as straight as she could, taking big steps across the classroom until she reached Professor Tanner. "Hello, Professor." The words came out quieter and flatter than usual, so she added an overly-cheery smile at the end in the hopes that the professor wouldn't notice. Totally normal. Everything was TOTALLY normal, see? Norah's shoulders hunched over again as she trudged to a desk, not noticing the funny shapes on the floor until she'd sat down and pulled her note-taking materials out of her bag at the pace of a snail with a broken leg. She really should've hidden under her bed instead of showing up at this lesson. She'd keep that in mind for next time.

Janelle arrived at the Arithmancy classroom, ready to tackle some numbers. She had prepared her mind and hoped she would be able to handle whatever the professor threw at her today. Stepping through the door, the first thing Janelle noticed was the change in the room arrangement. That made her wonder what they would be doing today.
"Hello Professor Tanner", Janelle said cheerfully. She made her way to an empty seat and gave a wave to Adi along the way. Then she sat down and began to prepare for class to begin.

Arithmancy was Paulina's worst subject, so she couldn't exactly say she was looking forward to the lesson. She did, however, rather like The Professor.
Eyeing the rather odd layout of the classroom, she wondered what they would be doing today. "Hello, Professor." She sent waves to people as she made her way towards her seat by Adi. Hopefully this lesson would go well for her because she generally struggled with the math and analysis.

Zeke adjusted his bag strap on his shoulder as he entered the class, giving nods of greetings to those already here that he knew, and of course there was Professor Tanner. "Hello, Professor," he greeted before slipping into a seat towards the back of the classroom.
The grid space on the floor caught his attention briefly, but he dismissed it just as quickly. By now he'd learnt that he was terrible at guessing the purpose of things. He was sure they wouldn't have to wait too long to find out.

Ah yes, the Bellaire child. He had not been what she expected, but then again, few things - or people - were. But those dimples... she just wanted to grab hold of his cheeks and pinch them! However, she easily resisted the urge and instead merely answered his query. "Well met, Mister Bellaire. And if you would like to play hopscotch, I would take you on." She was mostly joking, but also slightly serious.

As the Professor began to speak, Milo took notice of the squared off section of floor that she had indicated. He looked at it and tried to think about what it could mean or stand for and what the other smaller sections within it could be. Nothing major came to mind--he still didn't have a whole lot of knowledge about Arithmancy just yet.
"Professor," the first year raised his hand and spoke, "are we maybe doing something with Arithmancy but having a game of Four-Square or Nine-Square?" Because he had noticed that there were nine squares instead of four. They'd played bowling in Muggle Studies and there was a magical version of that. For all Milo knew, there was a magical version of four square that used nine squares and perhaps a specific branch of Arithmancy.

Ohhh... so they DID have to guess at the thing on the floor... well then.
Zeke glanced over to the space once more, he really couldn't guess what it was. It was squares with numbers, all he could really say for certain was that it wasn't a 'paint by numbers' activity. Sitting where he was, he shrugged. No idea.
He couldn't even call it sudoku... so, no idea.
Hand up, he offered his ONLY insight. "Some sort of game, Professor?" Yeah, there was uncertainty in his tone.

Arithmancy was... Well, basically it's math but the wizarding version. This was totally her twin brother's thing, not her. But she was here because... That's not really important why she was here decided to take this class.
Sitting at the middle row, Ava just listened to Professor Tanner. There was something on the floor, she knew it. But for what? "Are we gonna play tic tac toe or sudoku, Professor?" The lioness said once she raised her hand.

"I'm doing awesome, Professor! Looking forward to your lesson, actually.'' Did the woman realise that his time in her classes were coming to an end. Welp.
Now seated, Adi decked out his books and writing material. He smiled brightly at Janelle and greeted her with a big 'hello!' Paulina got a grin too, when she sat with him. "Hey!''
...................
It wasn't long afterward that Tanner got the ball rolling. Yes, of course he had seen the fancy square. As a matter of fact, it reminded him of something he had seen in his text book. Adi raised his hand after listening patiently to a few answers. "Maybe we're doing something that's related to the Pythagorean number system,'' was the suggestion. That number system DID attach the letters of the alphabet from numbers one through nine.
Norah trained her eyes on the funny shapes on the ground, but came to no immediate conclusion. It looked a bit like hopscotch, but that wasn't confusing enough to be arithmancy. She fiddled with her quill and let her left leg swing back and forth under her desk like a pendulum. Listening to everybody else's answers counted as being engaged? Right. Quill-fiddling was the very height of concentration. Or at least she could pretend it was.

Another grin was given to the professor, and a salute back at Adi. His fellow rocker dude always seem to be in high spirits, eh? The Slytherin went back to his book, and continued to read that particular chapter wherein he saw the same grid as the one that is now on the floor. Why it is on the floor, he doesn’t know. So, perhaps it was a game?
And…what is a Sudoku? Or even a Four Square? Nine Square?
Sure, tic-tac-toe is plausible…but he couldn’t quite match it with anything Arithmancy related…oh wait, yes he can. It was the only chapter in their book that had a square, divided into nine squares, so maybe, his initial guess was right.
All the way at the back, Ethan raised his hand and waited for his turn to answer. “Are we going to learn the Arrows of Pythagoras, professor?” Well, he really wasn’t sure why the grid was on the ground…so his answer was still a guess even if the ‘art’ resembles the one in their books.

Angel raised her hand and decided to guess, she wasn't so sure about this but she couldn't think of anything else, though even this was a funny shape for what she was about to say. "Is it Hop-Scotch?" Angel had no idea though what that could have to do with Arithmancy.

Hady had done as told having selected a seat a little off to the side of the center of the room seeing as the 'art' thing on the floor was where she had normally sat. Upon the asking of the first question of the morning her hazel eyes wandered from the parchment and quill on her desk to the new 'art' on the floor near her. Silently eyeing it up for a minute or two she had to admit she had no idea whatsoever. Her guess would've been as good as anyone else's just then but seeing as most that were already giving an answer all said the same thing she opted to keep quiet. She'd find out shortly enough anyhow. For the time being she would just jot down what anyone else was saying on her parchment.

She would play hopscotch with him later?? His face lit up quite noticeably at the offer and the boy bounced a little in his seat. "After breakfast on Saturday??" Yes? YES?? He'd never been offered a game with a Professor before; thought they were all too busy. This was gonna be neat!
For now, he tried focusing on the lesson, which meant peering over his desk to get a better look at the 'artwork' as the Professor had called it. Work, which meant it really wasn't a game of hopscotch. It was fine, 'cause she said she'd play with him later.
He...didn't know what it was and didn't think he'd have been able to make a good enough guess on it. Perhaps he hadn't done enough supplementary reading the night before as he thought he did. Unfortunately he would have to stay silent and wait for the next question; something he tried not to do in classes that didn't require magic.

Benny had seen the drawing when he had first entered the classroom, absently avoiding it when he had taken his seat before class had begun. But now, now...he wasn't all to sure about what it actually was on the floor. So no answer for him at the moment, the seventh year just observing and listening to what his fellow classmates had to say on the matter. There were several varying answers as well as questions on possibilities, however the Gryffindor would have to wait for it to be revealed because he wasn't feeling anything stronly pulling in one direction.
But then arithmancy wasn't one of his better subjects.
