Bright and sunny was the time of morning. The arena looked especially nice with the windows opened all the way, allowing the warm air and rays of light to fill the area. There was no need for an extra cloak or jumper here. The usual purple mats were situated in rows in the middle of the arena, alongside their respective small desks that could pass off as stools. Professor Romanos was currently sitting upon her own burgundy mat in the front as a small mechanical bird with long wire legs sprinted around her with no signs of stopping. Come in! Have a seat! Enjoy the sun.

Uh. Somehow, Paloma couldn't come up with some nice nor logical idea about what was just happening inside that classroom, so she just sat there next to Eden, in her chair and stared around looking for someone else she might know from that class, and back at Professor Romanos, hoping the class would start soon.
Eden looked up as Pal sat next to her, and she waved and grinned and gave her friend a pat on the back. "Hi Pal-" she whispered, nudging her a little. Hopefully, Paloma would be able to help Eden if she got into any sticky situations, ehh? Eden was still trying to be...okay at magic.

"How vonderful!" she smiled, reaching out to catch Sonya. Running a million times in circles was enough for one day. "Vell, velcome to Hogvarts. I hope you've settled in just fine." And perhaps make his mark upon Hogwarts like his brother did.
This, whatever this was, needed to stop.
And it did. Surprisingly and...temporarily from the sounds of it. But she'd take it for now. The student's learning would not be compromised over a bit of a prank! Taking a deep breath, she eyed the girl and the mat next to her for a moment before looking out to the class, releasing that breath slowly.
They would finish this after class.
Leaning a bit towards Bay as he moved closer, she couldn't help but sigh a little. Oh she didn't want the students worrying. "Perhaps too many chocolate frogs?" Chuckling softly in hopes of lightening the situation a little, her soft laughter subsided and she nodded a few times.
"Thank you, Mister Bay. I appreciate your concern for your classmate..." Or friend for better terms. "Vould you mind staying after class for a few moments?"
As for their time, they were now behind.

"Oh, pardon me for interrupting Mister Bastion..." That's right. She knew the lad's surname. Although, she held up her hands towards both Gregoire and Alexa aka Maleficent. "Though ve really must begin our class." Too much time had been wasted as it were.
"So, let us begin and focus on the lesson." Taking a glance to the Head Girl, she shook her head a little before starting in hopes of a consistent normal English accent. "Fire and Ice. What are the benefits of these two elements?"
WOW. And Eden feeling MORE special. This professor WAS AWESOME and COOL already. And nice...and ekhiwuhiuhfigh. A lot nicer than some of the OTHER professors >__>
But the lesson was beginning, so Eden would be quiet. For now. Fire and ice. DId she mean what were their benefits together? Separate? What? For now, Eden just raised her hand and bit her lip before answering.
"Well. Fire can burn people, and it can also burn down things, like houses and stuff." Didn't Eden sound so NICE? She blushed, realizing she sounded almost as MEAN a the head girl--"I mean--Fire can also do good things, like...cooking...things. And roasting marshmallows--HEY now THAT is a benefits--s'mores? Yeah? " Food was always a benefit. "Ice is cool, too, because it can be a nice thing to suck on when it's really hot outside and you have nothing else to do--also, snow is a part of ice, right? Or similar? Snow is nice because you can have snow ball fights. And snow can also be a great weapon, too. It can CRUSH things."
SO Eden realized she sounded like a five year old. Oh well. She shrugged it off, because those were ALL benefits, okay? Especially the s'mores thing.

Amid the drama that was going on up front, Ethan heard Simon mention the word popcorn and gave his best bud a look. The prefect’s face turned pink, and it worsened when Gregoire showed up. Amour means love in English, yes? MERLIN. What is UP with his friends, lately? Ethan shot Josie an apologetic look before he turned to face Gregoire. “Bonjour, Gregoire.” And did he know that it was the worst time to correct himself?! Whyyyyy. Whyyyyyyyyy. “Uh…I do?” Ethan grinned trying to maintain his composure. He wasn’t going to give an answer right away, especially when Josie’s sitting beside him. “What made you think that I fancy someone?” No, seriously. Was he that obvious??? OH AND INTRODUCTIONS! “By the way, Zander…Simon…Josie, I’d like you to meet Gregoire.” There, the Beauxbaton Transfer will now have more friends. Cool, yeah?

"Sheesh. She's really keen on getting into character." After a while, he pulled out his notebook and started making notes. Yes, don't mind him, just keeping an eye on the crazy Head Girl.
The Gryffindor nodded slowly at what Ethan said next, though he didn’t really think taking chocolate from Kyroh was all that impressive. But he did like Lex, just what was she doing lately? It was like she was a different person than the one he had talked to at the feast, y’know? One minute she was all ‘we’re going to make your next summer awesome’ and then she was stealing chocolate frogs and talking all funny. “Yeah… It might have to do with the badge, I didn’t even think of that really…” But it was actually a pretty good idea. Hm. Maybe he really was Sherlock.
AND THEN SIMON HOLDEN?!?! Zander grinned especially big when he saw his friend approach. Merlin, it had been AGES since they last saw each other!! Or at least, that’s what it felt like. Unfortunately, hanging out over the summer hadn’t really happened. “Hi, Simon!” Then, turning back to Ethan he tilted his head because Seventh Year prank? Now that was an idea. Then, another boy came along and Gregoire? Wasn’t that the french guy from potions or something? “Oh, uh, hi Gregoire, I’m Zander— I mean, Ethan already said that but uh—“ Yeah. Awkward. Right anyways, lesson time.

Ice? Like COLD ONES? Why did it always have to come back to this. Weren’t they done with it? Unless she actually IS the Cold One leader, which again he wasn’t going to drop the idea entirely. He'd noticed Soph's entrance as well, trying to catch her eye and smile before watching her take her seat. Eyes forward again, the Hufflepuff finished his little desk set-up and writing his name and the date his parchment, ready to LEARN.
And good job too, because they were starting.
Fire and ice... WELL... Toby had... ideas? Sure. He stuck his hand in the air.
"Uh... well they both have benefits when it comes to staying alive or healthy? Fire is great for warmth and cooking, and ice is good for when someone is injured or feverish or stuff, y'know?"

Sophie was entirely disinterested with the Lex stuff going on - really, what kind of act was she trying to pull here? - and tried to tear her gaze away from those happenings at the front of the classroom between the Head Girl and Romanos. It was at that moment that she thought she saw a certain vile Slytherin watching her - but when she went to do a double-take at one Cutty Mordaunt, she'd already decided he had no reason to be watching her. Must've been her imagination.
Then she was a little alarmed that Romanos started class with Lex right there and wondered why SHE got special treatment instead of ending up in detention for blatant disrespect to the professor, but Soph resolved to just rolling her eyes and tuning the Gryffindor out.
Though... hadn't Mo told Soph to make sure Lex didn't go overboard on the Gryffindoring? Maybe this was one of those times where she was supposed to step in and say something.
Maybe after class.
To the professor's question, Sophie thought it was kind of a silly one, but shrugged and raised a hand anyway, "Fire provides us with light, warmth, and in some cases a means of offense and defense," not in very common, every day ways, but still were worth mentioning all the same, "and ice cools things down and can remedy injuries. Among other things." Many of which her peers had already said. It was a pretty easy question to answer, wasn't it? No need to go overboard with options.

He had slipped through the door and taken his seat beside Kyroh seconds before Romanos started class, so Dima was very lucky indeed. His almost tardiness hadn't been intentional, but meal times were important, and while the kitchen level wasn't that far from the first floor, food could not be RUSHED, okay?
'Sides, he liked his food a lot better than DADA anyway, considering he didn't understand half of what they talked about in there on a regular basis. Maybe a fourth on good days.

Brooklyn wasn’t going to pay the least attention to the head girl, or whoever she was saying she was. She’d been curious how the professor would react to the weirdness, anyway, but paying attention to her maybe friend took precedence until class had begun. She’d turned to send a smile toward Hady as she had returned her greeting, therefore, but then suddenly found that the professor was speaking again. Starting the lesson apparently, and she turned back to see the crazy head girl had chosen to sit right there next to the professor, as if she was special. She was just crazy. Maleficent wasn’t a real person, after all, so obviously she wasn’t her. Even she knew that.
And people had started talking about fire and ice. Her first thought was to say something about Targaryens and winter and everything, but that wasn’t really a benefit. She still raised her hand, anyway. “You can fight fire with ice,” she volunteered. “Fire warms things up and ice does the opposite. Sort of. So if you freeze a fire it’ll go away.” Or she’d end up with an awesome frozen flame, which would be kind of cool. Pretty.

Ian watched with some measure of concern what the head girl was up to. His concern grew when she talked about manipulating people. Was that really how she viewed her position? Of course every person certainly did react differently to opportunities presented to them.
With the professor's question, Ian listened to the answers and thought about how it was used. He raised his own hand and answered Fire can be used to heal. It can be used to cauterize open wounds. Ice can be used as a preservative. It can be used to keep things from spoiling during transport or storage. the idea of preservation returned him to thoughts of his dad's boats. There was a large bit of ice used below decks to keep the seafood cold during transport.

Just as Hady was about to ask Brooklyn about her night in the girls dorms (for some friendly conversation) the Professor had began to speak. Straightening herself up she turned towards the front of the room and listened.
Fire and Ice? Hmm. Well so far everyone seemed to be giving really good ideas on their uses. Slowly she raised her hand into the air. "Well I think it really depends on how both are used. Fire and Ice could be used to harm an opponent or other elements like forests or lands. However they can also be used for many good things like fire is good for cooking or worth and ice for healing bumps or bruises as well as enjoyment like ice skating."

Josie couldn't help but notice how content she was feeling at the current moment. She was with friends she knew rather well & wasn't feeling at all uncomfortable. By being really happy that Ethan said he could sit beside him (Bluuush) & also being able to see Zander, whom she hadn't seen in a while, so this was really nice to be by him as well. But it was when their friend Simon had asking how her summer was she gave pretty easy reply saying that it was enjoyable. She was about to ask how his was, until she'd heard the Head Gryffindor Girl make mention of being called...Male-Malefercent or something? Whatever it was, it was a rather strange name if you asked her.
Suddenly there was a new face that emerged on the mats behind Ethan & he had asked Ethan who he amoured? What did amour mean? She wasn't sure, but the term sounded familiar, but then the boy with an interesting accent had corrected himself & said love. Who did Ethan love? Wait, Ethan was in love with someone? She couldn't explain why, but there was a sudden feeling of a slight pain in her chest as she sat there feeling oddly saddened by this. She didn't know the full reason as to why, but she did know that part of it was from not knowing what they were saying, since they were speaking another language. But she had at least managed to learn the boy's name was..Gregoire. She was certainly curious to know where he came from, but she was still a little saddened by his & Ethan's interaction.
Trying not to look upset, at least not too much to show it, she turned her attention to Professor Romanos as she had begun the lesson with a question about what the benefits of fire & ice were. But she chose not to answer, in fear that Ethan or everyone else in the class, might pick up on the sadness in her voice, if she did speak even thought she did know that there were quite a number of benefits between the elements of fire & ice.
Fire and ice? Hazel raised her hand to answer the question. "Erm, well, both fire and ice can harm and heal. Ice can help cuts and bruises, and fire can cook food and make you feel warm." Hazel wished there was more fire last term during that eternal winter. There was plenty of ice, though.

Alright, time to focus on the lesson. Caleb was still side eyeing Lex hard core, but he had to focus on Romanos and earn some points. That was all that was really keeping him from going NUTS this term. Fire and ice? Oh geez, if they were going to learn more about ice zombies he was so done...
He raised his hand. "Well, fire has the ability to destroy, and can be aided by air and water if used correctly," he told her. He remembered his dad telling him to NEVER throw water on a fire and instead to try and smother it, because the oxygen in water and the air kept it going. "And ice can melt into water, which is really the most POWERFUL of the elements because given time, it can cut through all sorts of stuff, even STONE," he said. Like those big canyons and stuff, yeah?

Clearing his throat, the boy tried to keep a neutral expression on his face as he glanced at the second year. "Eagle," he said, nodding at her and watching as she sat down right next to him. Jeez, if she was gonna partner up with him, this was gonna be a LONG lesson indeed. His ego would tell him to try and beat her at anything and everything but there was also the matter of Dima and Kyroh. Dude didn't want to upset THEM.
Speaking of the other two Claws, HEY. The freckly!Yeti one got smiles and nods from the Slytherin. "'Sup Kyroh!" And if Kyroh was here, Dima should be here too, right? Look at him, surrounded by second years. Kinda felt mighty and all. It was why his chest was puffed out a little as he looked around the classroom and gave 'sup nods towards Adi and Lux. Cool people were cool.
Unlike Caleb Newell, who, if Grayson didn't know better, was probably still mad about the Florean Fortescue's incident, considering the way he had been rolling his eyes. SMIRK.
Had Lex written her own name on the mat? The mat that belonged to ROMANOS? Whitty raised his eyebrows as he looked between the seventh year and the Defence Professor. Romanos did NOT look impressed by that. Not even a bit. Kinda weird, actually, since Grayson hadn't seen the woman be so mad during his time here. Huh.

Picking up on French was not that difficult to the part-Frenchie. Not when he was people!watching while waiting for the class to begin. Bien sûr? That meant of course, didn't it? Was that what the fourth year had been intending to say? If so, nods for you, Ethan Mordaunt. Well done.
What are the benefits of ice and fire? Grayson paused, listening out to what the others had been saying about the two elements, before raising his hand in the air and answering, "See, fire helps to kill diseases in forests and whatnot. Sure, they're considered BAD and HARMFUL but the thing is: some of these pests are bad to the trees and they kinda need to be eliminated. Besides, where would we be if we didn't cook out food using fire?"
As for ice..... "Dad says that ice can help people suffering from nausea. He always used to give a tiny amount to me and my brother when we felt nauseous sick. And if it's flavoured ice cubes, it's even better." Benefits of having a nurse as a dad. Uh huh.

Forrr the record Ruby wasn't paying attention to the Head girl being nutso. If she wanted to make ridiculous fashion choices, and share her plans for world domination and make fur coats out of puppy skins more power to her. Ruby was however, eyeing the metal bird thing in mild distaste tinged with just a bit of fascination. What was that thing? Was it worth money? Did it do tricks?
Oh. A question. Sitting comfortably on the yoga mat with the air of one who quite relished the seating arrangements, Ruby stuck her hand up.

As Kace was doodling yet again, he heard the professor start the lesson. He heard the question and wondered what the benefits of fire and ice. Kace raised his hand and said, "Professor they actually can cancel each other out. If there is too much fire, the ice can control it. Plus like everyone said we need fire to cook food and do basic human needs while ice can help cool us down and can be dangerous too.." As he said his answer he went back to sketching.

Grayson didn't like that she was sitting next to him, did he? This made the second year smile as she settled into her seat on the mat and watched Alexa Cambridge and her little dramatic one-woman play. The seventh year was seriously strange, did she know? She'd had one too many chocolate frogs if you asked Maddie and the thirteen year old was over the whole queen-like attitude. When SHE was ruler, she wasn't going to act ANYTHING like THAT, JUST saying.
Hand in the air, she decided she might as well answer. "Both can be used to harm or heal, just like magic can. Depends on your intentions."
She could feel a headache coming on. "I will curse the very next person to call me 'Cambridge'--or this 'Lex', whatever the bloody hell that is." Was it even a word? Where did these people get their insults?? It was quite the headache inducer. How did they NOT know who she was?????
With an impatient sigh, she reached down and with a well inked quill wrote in tall, cursive letters the name 'MALEFICENT' then a small line beneath it 'Mistress of All Evil'. "Would you look at that? It appears as if the mat now has my name and I don't fancy sharing it with the likes of you, Peasant. If you'll be kind enough, remove yourself or you'll find even your great grandchild cursed to the spinning wheel."
How thoughtful of her to give this commoner the chance to run. She had best take it, the Dark Queen wouldn't be waiting forever.

He gave the Professor a nod saying he will most certainly try for the next seven terms. Why not have some fun along the way as well. Though it seems class was finally starting. Not thinking of any benefits besides food like Kyorh said.

This Professor seemed very upbeat and welcoming although she supposed that most of them were probably like that. They all seemed to give her an over-the-top cheerful greeting even though she only offered them a small smile when she entered the classroom. But still she couldn't complain. At least the professors were making an effort to make her feel welcomed and inclusive and as the time progressed she was starting to feel like a proper Hogwarts student, no matter how muggle she still was.
The question asked was pretty basic and didn't exactly require any magical knowledge. But by the time she had even thought of putting her hand up everyone else was quickly firing answers and she felt it pretty pointless offering her own input. She did though, mostly because she wanted to look like she was making some form of effort to show her family that she was trying to 'give Hogwarts a go'.
"I think the most basic an' obvious answer would be to create heat and coldness" she started, lowering her hand from its upright position. "There ain't a limit to the possibilities these two factors have. Protection, resourcefulness. Everythin' that the others have said" Except the one going on about passion maybe.

And it did. Surprisingly and...temporarily from the sounds of it. But she'd take it for now. The student's learning would not be compromised over a bit of a prank! Taking a deep breath, she eyed the girl and the mat next to her for a moment before looking out to the class, releasing that breath slowly.

Leaning a bit towards Bay as he moved closer, she couldn't help but sigh a little. Oh she didn't want the students worrying. "Perhaps too many chocolate frogs?" Chuckling softly in hopes of lightening the situation a little, her soft laughter subsided and she nodded a few times.
"Thank you, Mister Bay. I appreciate your concern for your classmate..." Or friend for better terms. "Vould you mind staying after class for a few moments?"
As for their time, they were now behind.

Gabriel, to be COMPLETELY honest, was terrible at the subject of defense. Whether it be his lack of gusto...or the simple fact that he was, indeed, a wimp...Gabe struggled with it. He did just fine with the theoretical parts, of course. Things that needed to be researched, studied, and then transitioned into an essay remained his sweet spot, always...but when it came down to performing spells (or magical performance, in general), it was sketchy at best.
Pair that with his acute anxiety and stressed countenance...and, well...Yea.
He was not partaking in the yoga, by the way. He'd chosen a mat in the very back, of course...because there was another female instructor. AND the one that had been on that field trip to greece with Mr. Happypants. Gabriel couldn't have said why....but this bit of factual facts made him feel impossibly embarrassed.
He's seen her in a bathing suit. O.O
...Anyway, it'd be the way of silence and notes for now; all the while, weirdly trembling and shaking.
Also, he was answering her in his notes. So, Gabriel WAS listening and participating...in a way.

Defense Against the Dark Arts One: ??
What are the benefits provided by the two elements Fire and Ice? Both of the fire and ice elements can be used in multiples ways, with varying intent. If someone decided to cause senseless bodily harm, ice and/or fire could be effectively implemented (and could even be used in the extreme of taking someone's life)...but on the other end of the spectrum, it could be used in simply making someone comfortable (lighting a fire for warmth, providing ice to cool down a beverage...etc).

Beverly blinked from the Head Girl to Professor Romanos. Was she listening to all that junk from the school leader? It was amusing and some bits sounded like something her grandmother would say. Ha!
Focusing on the question, she turned her on seat and raised her hand. "Fire can warm you and bring light, it can also be used as an offense and defense in a duel. Ice can as well, but it can also be used as a physical thing. Like, you can form shapes out of it." Not like fire that couldn't even be touched.

Blink blink. Whaaaat. Marigold EYED Lex again. She was having soooome identity crisis, wasn't she? Plus that new French dude was... Talking in French to her. Simon smiled at his mates and nodded at the new Frenchy boy (Gregorie or something?). Before he could say anything, class began.
And weird things were happening with Malexaifent....He just stared with his blue eyes as wide as saucers. Well then... He glanced down at his notebook as Romanos asked her first question. Fire and Ice? He raised his eyebrows slowly. Why...? Then he turned to glance at Zandr at the mention of Ice. Ice.... Hmm.. He wondered if the mention of ice would remind his mate of He paused and began jotting down some notes about their benefits. As other students offered answers, he remained silent and continued taking notes.
