The windows are open and a crisp fall breeze is blowing through the Arithmancy classroom in preparation for another day of learning. Professor Domingo, clad in earth tones to match the season, stands near the front of the room shuffling her notes to be organized and ready for today. A notice is written on the chalkboard in her handwriting: "Take out the list of three people I asked you to prepare and set it on your desk."
OOC: You may RP chatting, but please nothing excessive. The lesson will begin in a few hours.

Lux smiled at the Professor. She had decided that she liked the woman, because she seemed nice. "Term is great so far, thanks for asking." But now it was time for the lesson to start.
Staring down at her list, she could easily say why Bay was on it; she had multiple reasons. But she kind of wanted to keep those reasons to herself for the moment. Maybe she was being silly, but he was her boyfriend and being sappy and gushing about him in class was something that everyone else probably didn't want to hear. She would gladly say why in the homework or outside of class, but not HERE. So she kept silent and listened to what her classmates had to contribute.
Paloma eyed her list. Those three people meant a bit much to her. One was her family, one was her boyfriend, and the other a famous ballet dancer from a long time ago. Sure, she wasn't going to be talking about her family, because she'd get too sentimental about it, and even less about her boyfriend, who was far away, and again put her into a moody state. So, Elisa was the remaining to talk about.
She raised her hand, took her breath, and spoke: "Well, one of the persons on my list is Elisa Carrillo Cabrera." She said it in the most Spaniard way possible."She was a famous ballet dancer, from Mexico, but who, because of her persistance, training, and hard work, she made it all the way to the Berlin State Opera..." Quite impressive resumée her person had, but she wasn't really going to say the whole story that Pal really well knew.

Okay but why wasn't she on anyone's lists? Why? It didn't even matter that she didn't know half the people here, Ruby was somewhat put out by this severe lack of appreciation.
Rude.
Pouting to herself slightly, Ruby smoothed her own list out, written in her brother's careful perfectionist writing rather than in her own. It was just easier that way. She WOULD have put NIGEL down, but she was still MAD/UPSET about that whole situation, so she'd had to choose someone else.

Honestly Ruby was more interested in the shade of lipstick the professor was wearing than in sharing anyone on her list, but she put her hand up.
"I put my Uncle Leon Odessa on my list because he's cool, he's fashionable, and he totally brought down the leader of the Cult of Walpurgis after spending a whole bunch of time undercover and everything like eight or nine years ago." Well what, she didn't have to say dates right? Because this wasn't History of Magic. And anyway if anyone cared they could look it up in a book. "I admire him because he does what he sets out to do and you can count on him, even if sometimes he's kind of strict. He's a former auror, and was the head curse-breaker at Gringotts once too. And he was Slytherin." Like her, as it turned out? Whodathunkit?
But back to the important thing, didn't anyone have her on their list?

Ian listened to the other students. When a moment of silence occurred, he raised his hand and then stood to provide his name. He didn't need to look back on the list to know which name was most important on the list. I wrote down my dad, Alistair Tinker. To me, he's the strongest person I've ever met. He's tried to teach me how to treat people right and respect others. I just never realized how poorly I sometimes follow those lessons and how far I have to go to be like him until this year. he sat back down to hear the others. Why had he said so much? He probably would have gotten away with just saying it was his dad. Oh well, it was out there now.

Adi grinned and waved at Jasmine. He was going to miss her when she left Hogwarts. She was one of the few Ravenclaw friends he had. Hmmm...might be time to change that. Got to make more Claw friends.
.........................
This was optional then? This sharing thingy? The Hufflepuff decided he would remain silent. He knew why he had selected Benny, AJ and Professor Head of House so he wouldn't be saying anything. So instead, Adi listened with interest to the others who did volunteer to speak on their choices.

They had to share? Well they didn't have to share, but it was encouraged. Okay, but Jasmine would keep it short and sweet. She didn't really want to go into an in depth explanation. Besides, one of the people she most admired was not on the list for.......reasons. She was not trying to open up a huge can of worms.
Raising her hand, Jasmine said, "I chose my parents.""I chose them because they have been an inspiration to me in so many ways. Things haven't always been easy for them, but they have set a great example for me and my brother and sister. They are very different in the way they go about things, but I admire them equally." She was done. Time to let someone else have a turn, thankfully.

Class was starting already? There didn't seem to be many students in the room yet but that was alright. Shifting around in her seat a little she listened to everyone else's answers on whom they wrote on their lists.
Slowly Hady raised her hand into the air. "I wrote down Jaxon Michael Fairchild on my list. He's been my best friend and like a brother to me since we were both really small. No matter what happens he's always there for me and he always puts others before himself." Yeah Jaxon was awesome in her eyes and she missed him so so much now. Lowering her hand to her lap she fixed her eyes on her desk taking in a slow deep breath. Boy did she wish he could have come to Hogwarts with her.

SO INSTEAD, she scratched her nose with her quill and tried to not get in any trouble because Z LIKED Professor Numbers.

There were several students that looked unwilling to share. She understood. Sharing her own list with the entire class would certainly never be happening.

And at least he could share ONE of his names and stuff.. ahem. Zeke raised his hand and waited to be called upon before providing his response. "I chose my mum, Professor. Her names Emily Ellouise Morgan Browne, she's strong and clever and she's in charge of the MLE and yeah." He admired her, duuuhhhhh. It was obvious why, no? He thought so. BUT... maybe he could get answers too, now.
"Professor, you don't happen to know Professor Airey's middle name, do you?"
Heh.
She smirked at the first boy to raise his hand. That's what you got when you laid your head down in this professor's class. But besides working a bit on his sentence endings, he seemed a fairly articulate young man. "And excellent choice, by the sound of things."
But that last addition, not an excellent choice. "No, I do not know his middle name." It was Leighton, she believed. "But I do know you should show some respect for him and address him as Professor Flamsteed in this classroom. Two points from Gryffindor."

She then raised her hand to reveal one of the people she chosen. "I chose Linda McCartney born September 24 1941 and who passed away on April 17 1998. She was a Muggle musician, photographer and animal rights activist. I admire her because she wasn't afraid to be herself even though she got criticised for everything from being married to Paul McCartney to what she wore."
Good, not everyone had simply chosen people they were acquainted with personally. But... criticised for what she wore?! This sounded like a highly questionable individual. This Ravenclaw needed to sort out her priorities, it appeared. "Thank you for sharing." No, she wasn't going to approve of that particular choice.

Speaking of bounce, Toby was kind of doing just that right now, and quickly fought to keep his bouncing arms and legs down to a dull fidget, especially when Domingo started the lesson. Luckily, she was getting straight to the question asking, which meant he could fling his hand up in the air and focus his energies on answering.
"I chose Professor Botros as one of my list people persons," the Hufflepuff said eagerly, because he had an EXCUSE to sign Botros' praises right now and he was going to take perfect advantage of that. "I admire him because he's super kind, and patient, and probably the nicest person I've ever met, and he saved my life in my first year, so he's a total hero too. This was certainly an older student, but she had never laid eyes on the girl before. Perhaps a transfer? And oh yes, yet another Odessa. They seemed to be everywhere in this country, based on what she had heard. Lolita had never heard of this cult the girl was speaking about, perhaps a British musical group? But if the man was fashionable, then he couldn't be all that bad. "A true Renaissance man," was all she said. The verdict was still out on this one.

This was SUCH a Gryffindor reaction. She barely controlled herself enough to not roll her eyes. "Another two points, chico, for talking back to your professor." This one was taking after his house mate Kevin Hirase, and not in a good way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time to move on, then. "It sounds like most of you have put some thought into your choices and I commend you." She had been expecting most of the class to come in unprepared. Maybe they were learning to follow what she said so they didn't face the feisty Latina's fury? Well played, estudiantes.
"This term we will be focusing on The Core. Who can explain to me what The Core numbers are?"
Angel smiled as she raised her hand. "Professor Your core number can provide lot of detail about yourself." Angel looked down at her table wondering if to go on she felt like she was wrong now but in the end she decided too. "Basically what ever you core number says is what you are must likely to experience in life."
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Poor Zeke. He was not having much luck in the points department for this class, was he? But Professor Domingo was starting on today's topic. Core Numbers? There were about four of those, right? Adi couldn't remember them all but he did remember the Life Path Number. Before raising his hand, Adi took a moment to think. You know, to make sure he got his explanation worded correctly.
"The Core numbers give us information about our lives. Or some one else's. Like the Life Path Number tell us what we need to be successful in life.'' And that was all Adi had. He knew there were three others but he couldn't recall them at this time.
Hadleigh gave a tiny nod of her head to show she heard what her Professor said. The Slytherin heard the difference in the Professor's voice when she spoke to her but she of course said nothing. Maybe she shouldn't have shared whom she admired. Oh well there was no time to really dwell on it now as the class was moving on.
Core numbers? She had no idea what those were so didn't raise her hand. Rather she took out a piece of parchment and her quill so she could take notes about what Core numbers were.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Had she really forgotten to greet the Professor? Her head must still have been fuzzier than she thought. "Sorry about that Professor." Was she sorry? Not particularly but common courtesy also dictated that you offer an apology to those in authority the moment they felt affronted by whatever action you might have committed against them so there it was, an apology. Not like she'd done it on purpose, it was an honest mistake and not an act of disrespect so no real reason to be sorry.
Lex, herself, didn't want to share her reason behind anything and after her slight mess up earlier she didn't think much to go to Zeke's rescue either so instead she sat quietly and waited for that portion of the lesson to be over. When it was, Zeke was still at it and they were talking about cores.
Again, she didn't feel much like saying.
To show some initiative, she reached for her text and threw it open to the page regarding today's topic then gave as intent a look as possible but words, she didn't want to use many of those right now. No thanks. Carry on, she was paying attention.
Yikes! Couldn't they make it through one class without someone losing points? What was up with that? Trying to refocus on what la Profesora was saying, Jasmine heard the question about core numbers. Her first thought was to stay silent, but then she decided to chance it and raised her hand.
"Core numbers are a group of numbers that tell you things about a person by focusing on specific areas like how they appear to others or what they want most out of life.". Did that make sense? It sounded good in her head.
Core numbers.
Core numbers...core numbers.
Benny tried to remember what they were and how best to explain them to the professor for her question. He supposed he could look in his textbook but some might think that cheating. Listening to the answers given by others, the Gryffindor nodded in agreement, especially at those given by Angel and Adi, the first to speak up.
"They speak of your future and your heart's desire," he added figuring to at least give something.
That poor Gryffindor kid. Toby really felt for him. It was, after all, right that Airey let them be slightly more informal with addressing him and stuff, but it was difficult to know which of the other staff was accepting of that. Tobias looked between Domingo and the Gryffindor boy, worrying the inside of his lip and hoping that the kid was alright.
As for the question, nope. Toby had no idea; Arithmancy was a subject that he remembered very little of, though this was probably one of those pieces of information he should know by now. Instead of providing an answer, Toby simply scribbled down what some of the other kids were saying on the belief that they must be right with speaking so confidently, and glanced up every now and then to look at Domingo. Or the Gryffindor!kid.
Did he want candy? Toby probably had a chocolate frog in his bag that he could hand over after class, on the off chance that it might cheer the boy up a little bit.
More points loss already? And for Gryffindor no less.
Siiiiiiigh.
Shaking her head sadly, Lux tried to focus on the lesson. Core Numbers? They sounded vaguely familiar to her, as she had actually re-read the textbook during the summer in hopes that it would help her understand this number stuff more. It had kinda worked. Raising her hand, she offered an answer. "Core Numbers give information about yourself or another person. There are different Core Numbers and they each focus on a specific area."
Layla WAS going to offer a contribution to the conversation but quite frankly she felt like her decisions were private and she didn't really like these people enough to splurt out her inner thoughts to them. Both that and the Professor did say she didn't mind if they didn't WANT to tell her. She didn't get what this had to do about arithmancy either, wasn't it all supposed to be kinda mathsy and stuff?
Though it seemed like after the brief discussion they had started to move on to the big stuff. As sad as it probably sounded, Layla was looking forward to arithmancy. She was really good at maths in school and she had read up a lot about the subject during her summer break to get a head start. If she had to be good at something it might as well have been something she would find reasonably easy in the first place. And muggle studies didn't count.
She raised her hand to offer her answer. "Core numbers are a series of different numbers that apparently display something about an individuals personality or just generally about their lives. They seem like they are the basis of a lot of arithmancy as there are quite a few numbers that fit into the branch of 'core numbers'" Or that was how she had interpreted it from the textbook anyway.
She didn't really care if she was wrong, at least she had tried to offer something.
Core numbers? Well, Ophelia literally didn't have a single clue. If she had to guess it would be something about important numbers, or something about abdominal numbers, but the second one sounded dumb, so the blonde wasn't gonna say it. Instead, she took out her notebook and started writing all of this down, wondering what numbers were considered "core" numbers to her.
Well, she was an eight person family, and she broke her arm for the first time when she was eight, so did that count? Or did that mean nothing? What constituted a core number anyway? OOOH, she could get into the lesson this way! Good job 'Ophie brain!
While everyone else was answering and the brown eyed girl was focusing on trying not to smudge the ink across the paper --she should've just used her pen like all of the time-- her right hand was raised in the air, the question forming in her mind.
"Professor, how important does a number have to BE to be a core number? Because the number 9 is my lucky number, but does that count? Who dictates how important these numbers are anyway?" Because she didn't get it. And it was annoying her that she didn't get it. What numbers displayed something about her life? Eight? Maybe seven? This was going to be a difficult class. She could tell already.
Uhhh. Uhhhhhhhhh. Norah looked blankly down at her textbook and then up at the professor. Core numbers? She picked up her quill and began to take notes, already confused on the lesson. Go figure. Raising her hand anyway, she theorized what they might be. She had heard that the core had something to do with muscles, right? Those ab things everybody seemed to be talking about? So maybe core numbers meant how many of those you had. Like a six pack? She listened to some other answers and put her hand back down again. Her idea was definitely wrong, and there was really no point in sounding stupid in front of everyone. Sigh. Notesnotesnotes, this was going to be a loooooong class.
"This term we will be focusing on The Core. Who can explain to me what The Core numbers are?"
She could NOT be serious. What in the name of sugary fudge was she friggin on about?! TALKING BACK?! HE WASN'T TALKING BACCCCKKKK! He had merely STATED - and rather respectfully he had thought - that he had received permission from his Head of House to call him by that name. The name PROFESSOR AIREY as the man himself had introduced himself as during his first night here!!!!! ......... How could he be CONDEMNED for something he was told to do by the ACTUAL person? Would it be the same if he had said Professor Cassie? Because that was the same thing! In fact, Professor Cassie disliked it MORE when people called her Professor Morgan! He'd heard it himself!!!!
THIS. WOMAN. WAS. UNREASONABLE. RUDE. UNREASONABLE. MEAN. BULLY!
In fact, he was certain she hated him. Hated him for some strange and unknown reason, from the moment he entered class.
Was it his nose? His hair? His... face? HIM?! .......... WHAT did he do to deserve this treatment?! IT WAS UNJUST!!!
Zeke just sat super quietly and super straight, wondering if she would dock points for him BREATHING next. Such a troll. No, he would sit here and not participate in discussion unless he was directly called upon. Last he checked, he didn't have to say anything, and she would NOT be getting a goodbye at the end of the lesson.
Arithmancy, was the single WORST idea of his life, he'd rather stick his hand in a barrel of live spiders who hadn't seen food in weeks. Yeah. YEAH. Needless to say, he would be visiting Professor Airey after class finished. If he had indeed been rude or disrespectful, or set something on fire, or hexed someone, sure... dock points... but he'd done NOTHING wrong.
The core? Core numbers? Pffttt......
He had no idea, and frankly, why would he care? He didn't. Didn't care, but secretly, deeep deeeeeepppp down beneath his hurt and embarrassment, he was willing and paying attention. He even LOOKED like he was paying attention - listening to what others said. But he refrained from copying down any notes until Professor MeanyPants confirmed anything.
Ian heard the professor respond to his sharing. Seems like he wouldn't be sharing anymore if that was the attitude the professor would have toward his revelations. This professor didn't seem like she had any real concern for her students. Come to think of it, it didn't seem like she was well liked by the staff, at least based upon his observations during meals. She was kind of off to herself. He shrugged. Not here to impress a professor anyway and perhaps he would just show her that he could learn the lessons of his father.
He heard her question, but as he hadn't taken the class before, he wasn't sure what Core numbers ere. He wondered if perhaps they were similar to prime numbers. He sat silently as the others answered. No need to put himself out there again if she was just going to be mean.
