Once you've made your entrance, you can choose which table to sit at from the wide central walk space running up to the staff dais. The floor has been polished over the summer to a sheen so shiny that you can see your own appearance in it. Awesome!
"This will be fun." West was sure of it.He looked down at her and grinned. "Not that its my favourite... and I'm a bit rusty probably, but I promise I won't step on your feet and stuff okay?" As long as she didn't squish his either. He held her right hand with his left, placed her left on his shoulder, and rested his right hand on her back. Not too low though, y'know.
"Ready?"
She WAS gonna let him lead, right?
Ana nodded agreement to West's statement, this was going to be very fun. It was dancing and she'd always loved it so it was going to be fun. "I promise not to step on your feet too," Ana reassured West, thinking that it would be worse for him if he got a heel through his foot. Ana allowed him to place her hand on his shoulder, moving it to a slightly more comfortable position before locking in her frame. She was also happy that he placed his hand on her waist, and that she didn't have to tell him off for placing it too low. She'd had to do that before and it was never fun.
"Ready."
Ana prepared herself to move whenever West did. Since he apparently knew what he was doing she'd let him lead.

Seren had been in her own little world, zoning in and out of what was going on around her. Perhaps she needed a power nap... yep...
She did however catch Airey instructing them to find partners, partners they were not familiar with. Exceelllleeennnttt. Finally she could dance too! It would surely do her stiff joints wonders, and wake her up in the process.
"Partner anybody?!" she asked, wondering if perhaps she ought to single out a poor soul and tap them on the shoulder.

Okay. Okay. He waited for the music and then stepped backward, a swayyy as if to say 'and', then led them into the steps. no foot stepping either. Not on his part anyways.
West was glad he knew how to do this actually because it wasn't the easiest thing to start with, especially since they were all getting straight into it right? He shot a little look over his shoulder towards Mo, wondering if he was thankful too, and then West's attention was on Ana and he beamed at her.

'Cause that was the way Glitter Trousers always thought.
He pulled a little at the cuffs of his dark green suit and glanced around the room. Naturally, in his modest opinion, he looked the best, but that just came with the territory of his face, yeah? S'not anyone else's fault that they couldn't keep up.
The only one who looked better was a certain Gryffindor rockin' a very old necklace he had given her a while back. He appreciated what that dress did for her and formally wanted to shake it's hand.
.....HAHAHA....
Glitter Trousers couldn't be serious, yeah? He put them all in this stupid outfits and then they couldn't even dance with someone they were comfortable with? Not that he was gonna dance anyway. Nah. He was going to loiter far away from the dance floor 'cause this was so not his thing.
But if he was going to dance...which he wasn't...he certainly wasn't going to seek anyone out.
She had to dance with someone that she didn't know too well? Well that was quite easy because she really didn't know that many people. Well apart from her besties, but she wasn't going to dance with them anyway. But Grace didnt really want to dance with someone she didn't know at all. Because that would just be kind of awkward. So Grace was going to look for someone that she kind of knew but didn't know too well. That would be a slytherin maybe? She wasn't too sure.
The first year looked around, before noticing Ascanius. She kind of knew him. well they had talked once. In the courtyard. When he'd been lost. He'd called her gorgeous. She liked that. Okay. She choose him. Wait? Was he a pokemon now? No. But he was still kind of cute. She first year, wandered over to him. "Do you need a partner Ascanius?" Did he have a nickname? His name was rather long after all. Maybe she'd ask whilst they were dancing.

Ana waited patiently for the music to start, keeping her attention on West so that she'd be ready to go when he was. The last thing they needed was to fail at this dance because she wasn't paying attention and so fell flat on her face. Wasn't going to happen. When West swayed backwards she took that as her cue and positioned herself on the balls of her feet before moving forward on her right foot as he moved back on his left. Ana made sure that her foot was placed between his so that she wouldn't step on his feet.
Ana was glad to note that West hadn't been lying about knowing how to dance, because a Viennese Waltz was difficult. Mostly because it was fast and you were rotating. She honestly would have expected Professor Flamsteed to start them out on an easier dance due to the young ages of a lot of the people here. She looked over his shoulder, trying to see how the others were doing. Scoping out the future competition as the case may be.
"I'm sure they won't. I mean, as long as everyones moving in the same direction. Actually... I take that back, with some of these people I'm sure we'll be lucky to avoid a collision," she said, wincing at the tragicness of some of their fellow students sense of direction and dance skills. Some of them would probably be too busy staring at their feet to pay attention to where they were going. Looking back at the older boy she grinned back at him. She really was glad to be partnering with him, and feeling safe with him leading her around the dance floor she was able to enjoy this more than she might have with a partner that she'd need to lead.

"You're a mah-velous dancer, Magenta," Mo let go of Bart as soon as their little demonstration ended, and he gave the younger boy a bow and a grin. "Try to find a partner shorter than you next time, or you'll always end up having to follow." And leading was a lot more fun.
He left Bart on the floor, but he didn't find a partner initially. He wanted to make sure Cat was settled first. Sure, she was outgoing and enthusiastic, but he knew she wanted to dance with him, and since they weren't allowed, he wanted to check on her. Make someone dance with her if necessary.
And she was fine. So. Now the awkward part where he found a partner.

Wait a second, was that actually just said? Or was it that he was just imagining things again? Blinking up at Professor Glitter Dude, Austin quickly realized that he actually wasn’t allowed to dance with Lily which basically was the most uncool move which had happened in the past five seconds, he specifically had ended up coming to the lesson so that he would have gotten to dance with his girlfriend but now thanks to the rules in place which were definitely unnecessary. People should have been allowed to pick whomever they wanted to for a partner and not just be talking to random people even if somewhere in there was a good idea. Talking to random people was always interesting though when it came to a situation like this, it didn’t exactly make much sense cause of all the awkwardness that basically could have been avoided in its entirety but regardless of his objections it wouldn’t have mattered what he thought.
Of course he knew that Lily was just as disappointed by this predicament as he had been even without having to say a word to her, he was almost tempted now to make sure whoever asked her to dance didn’t step on her toes or whatever else since that wasn’t nice. In the meantime, he only backed off towards the wall and just stood there; as far as he was concerned now dancing wasn’t going to happen since everything just didn’t make sense.

You all have the student leader's event to dance with your significant others and best friends, so for the sake of the next activity please partner with someone you may not know as well," he continued. Partly this was because he really did want students to keep pushing out of their comfort zones and mingle more among each other. It was so easy to get stuck in the same group of people all the time. Good friends and all. He had been that way as a student. He understood the comfort in familiarity. Tiberius and him had been dance partners during their dance lessons while at Hogwarts. "Once you have found a partner you can start practicing together. The taller of the two of you taking the lead. I'll give you ten minutes to partner-up and practice before we start a little competition."

Mo, Bart, & Schuyler are also available. These parings were just for demonstration purposes. Don't forget the professors who are here too. They are free game as well
I'll post instructions for the activity probably before I go to bed in approximately....er....9 ish hours.
Tessa watched the dance carefully. This was more familiar to her than the Cupid Shuffle- oddly enough. SHe vaguely remembered this being one of the ones that she had learned in Beauxbatons... not that she had paid a whole lot of attention in that class.
At least this dressing up was a one time thing, right? Granted, she did quite like this dress.
However, she stopped warming up to the activity at the PRofessor's next words. Random partners? She allowed a pout to slip onto her lips for the briefest moment, glancing over at Sander. However, there was no point in dwelling on it- on to finding a partner!
SPOILER!!: Sander

Tessa caught Sander's glance and and returned the expression. She had desperately wanted to dance with him- at least they would have stepped on each others feet and laughed about it. Now, she wasn't sure who she was going to be with. She shot him a nod and returned her attention to the dance floor.
"Anyone in need of a partner?" she asked, looking around the room with a smile.

Adi was here and NOT ready to do this next dance. He was dressed in a black pants, a yellow shirt and a black jacket over it. He had decided to totally skip the tie. Who invented that horrible thing, anyway?
He was about to resign to the fact that he wasn't going to have a partner, when he heard a familiar voice asking for a partner. Tessa! Gah! He was so short. He wondered if she would want to partner with him, anyway.
"Tess!'' he called. "Erm...wanna be my partner?'' Darn, they would look weird dancing together if she agreed.

Hopefully he hadn’t thought she’d just been being polite when she’d said he looked nice. She really did think he looked nice dressed up, even if the idea of making everyone dress in their House colors was a bit weird. At least, when it came to the guys, since it wasn’t hard to find dresses in the appropriate colors. Besides, some colors just didn’t belong on suits, as far as she was concerned. It seemed like most of the guys attending the lesson probably agreed with her, too, seeing as they seemed to be avoiding yellow or gold suits. And then Professor Flamsteed had spoken, instructing everyone to move to the edges of the floor while he waited for volunteers, and she’d moved over, assuming Austin would follow her lead. “Y’know, that’s a very Slytherin answer. Maybe you should be a politician,” she continued with the teasing. Obviously she wasn’t actually offended that he’d lied when it came to his dance ability. She knew he probably could say the same about her and hiding her musical abilities. If he actually knew the extent of those.
She’d watched the waltz demonstration, anyhow. That was definitely different from the first dance, and she understood why they’d been asked to change, too. It would have been weird waltzing like that in jeans, and it just looked like it flowed better with skirts and stuff involved. It was a proper dance, and she’d turned back to Austin almost as soon as the other shoe dropped. They were supposed to find a partner that they didn’t know as well. She wasn’t sure if that seemed fair, or if it was just because the professors were trying to make sure that nothing other than just dancing happened. It wasn’t like she’d planned on kissing him in the middle of dancing or anything, so that was just stupid. She’d heaved a sigh, though. Sending him an apologetic look, she ventured out onto the floor. “Does anyone still need a partner?,” she asked aloud, hoping someone would hear. In the back of her mind, she was hoping either someone did, or everyone got paired up and she would be forced to get what she really wanted. For now, though, she was hoping that someone would notice her.
Watching Ana and West with a slight frown, the Slytherin walked into the middle of the dance floor in order to find a partner. Someone his own age preferably, the height difference would be a little awkward otherwise. He spotted a girl that looked like she'd be around his year group and approached her with a cautious smile. "I do" he answered her question about needing a partner. "If you'd like to dance with me?" he asked. He'd never met her before and she looked friendly enough to want to get to know.
The main question was of course whether Terry could pick up the dance easily enough. It didn't look so bad, lots of spinning and staying in hold which wouldn't be a problem for the sixth year. At least he hoped so anyway.
"I'm Terry" he introduced himself. If they were going to dance together they should probably get to know one anothers names, right?

Oh there was Ascanius. He looked just as nice as she expected. With a grin, she started to make her way over to him while the demonstration was finishing up, but then Flamsteed ruined it.
Really??? They couldn't dance with someone they already wanted to? Just because there was gonna be another chance to didn't mean they should be barred from it now. Hmph. Thanks a lot.
Now who was she gonna dance with? She didn't want to dance with a guy who wasn't Ascanius or at least already her friend. So that left choosing a girl...

"I'll dance with you, Professor," she offered.

Sarah was secretly glad that they had to partner with someone they did not know as well. Maybe she could dance with Mo than... She was about to ask when she noticed he was taken. Oh dear. That is annoying.

Bart laughed a bit at Mo as he said he was a marvelous dancer. Still in his girlish voice he tried to fake giggle, but coughed on his laughing instead. "Why thank you, you are just charming aren't you." He straightened up more and scratched at his beard as the demonstration was over. "Thanks for ahh not making it awkward and stuff." He nodded at captain Mo's advice.

That was kind of difficult when many of the girls were even taller than him right now. awkward boy stage and all He looked around hoping he could just hide in a corner and not do this at all.
As he tried to make his way into a corner he bumped into Professor Cool Plants. She was asking for a partner. He gave a big sigh before sticking out his hand. "I'll be your partner Professor, but I guess you'll be leading since you are taller." That's how it worked, right? Just because she was taller she got to be the leader.

Okay Yeah, This wasn't as hard as he thought it would be. The demonstration made sense to him. He was sure he could do this.
Where in the world was Adeline he told her that he really wanted to go to the lesson. Hinting around that she should come too. And now here he was all dressed up in his house colors looking very nice. WITH NO GIRLFRIEND to dance with.
Sighs
He blinked well not that that mattered now. Ariey asked them to find a partner they didn't know that well. He scanned the room to make sure Adeline hadn't came in at some point. Maybe he didn't see if she did. Nope no Adeline.
This time he scanned the room for a new partner one he didn't know well. He backed up trying to get more people into view.
Oppps he back right back into someone. "Sorry!" He turned around to see who exactly he backed into it was Ella "Sorry. Ella."
Huh? Did Ella need a partner? Since the rules about dancing with someone else new maybe she did. He glance over at Alec. He hoped he didn't mind if he asked her.
Better Asher than some other dude. If Adeline was here he rather Alec be her partner than some other dude. "Wanna partner up ?"

Ascanius was perfectly content not dancing and just looking good over in the corner. No one wanted to watch him dance as much as he didn't wanna, yeah? There was nothing particularly helpful or fun about watching a bunch of teenagers dance 'round with people they didn't know. So good going, Flammy. He famously messed this up.
Though, it was to be expected... 'cause he was Glitter Trousers and all. The space between his ears was just air, he was convinced.
Oh look, a small person. He flicked his eyes over to Pen to see what she was doing or if she would help him, but alas, no such luck. It was just him and the small person who he had met briefly in the Courtyard. Her name was something...he just couldn't remember. S'fine, he'd stick with gorgeous or beautiful and move on with his life. And hopefully get away without having to dance.
"Technically...I suppose, gorgeous," it didn't mean that he WANTED a partner. Very different things.
Standing just outside the changing rooms, Beverly attempted to rearrange her hair so that it covered her exposed shoulders. Grabbing a dress on the go had been a terrible idea. She ended up with a pretty dress that she quite liked, but it was flashy. Hopefully it wouldn't attract attention.
Dancing lesson went from bad to WORSE when Professor Airey proposed they all find a partner. Said partner had to be someone they didn't know. That should be easy for the Slytherin, since she only knew two people. As it was, it wasn't. It meant interacting in close distance with someone she didn't know. A STRANGER.
Nope. No. Not happening. Hiding in the changing room sure sounded like a mighty fine idea. But she stood there, hands tightly clasped behind her back, in a pretty emerald dress and black Converse shoes. Her grandmother would so look down on her. Good.
Someone he didn't know... okay. That was fine. As long as they weren't really required to talk much, because Toby was TIRED and dancing was gonna take away all his energy. Like, what was going on? But at least his crankiness had gone away after he sat out for a few minutes.
The Hufflepuff stared around the room, trying to look past the people he didn't know to focus on the unnamed faces. Boy, girl, he didn't mind who he danced with. Tobias finally set eyes on someone he recognised vaguely from classes, and who was wearing a pretty neat green dress, identifying her as a Slytherin.
He headed over, hands in his pockets, and stood beside her, rather than in front, and looking out at the Great Hall as she did. "D'you wanna dance with me?" Tobias asked, not really knowing whether it would be a yes or a no. If it was a no, he could always go ask someone else.

Look how awkward Mo is right there. Even Flamsteed looks a bit..eh forget it. So they have to find a partner they are not familiar with. Way to make this more weird for everyone Flameo. Nigel's first option has to just hang around the corner of the room and just not dance. He would not be making a fool of himself and could just watch. It sounded good in theory. But would defeat the purpose of coming here in the first place.
So partner, partner. Guess Nigel will have to go look for one.He heard someone asked for a partner and it was someone he did not know. Would you look at that. Nigel walked over to her and asked the simple question. "Wanna be Partners?"

A glassy look came over Lux's face as she watched Professor Flamsteed give his demonstration of the Viennese Waltz. Did the man honestly expect most of the people in this class to get the steps when they suffered from memory loss? Even she herself was struggling, and she was the same as she had always been.
Demonstration over, she began scanning the room for someone to partner with. She would rather it be with someone she knew, but Flamsteed did not want that for some reason. Everyone was getting partners, and she did not want to be left out, staying on the sidelines. Sighing, she began to walk around the room, looking for someone who would dance with her. "Anyone want to dance with me?"
The good thing about attending a dance class in a suit was to never go through the process of changing clothes in a room full of students. Even if there were changing rooms, this was just not happening. Botros was standing by the attending professors, watching the training, smiling and nodding. He knew how to do this dance, he was beyond relief they didn't have to do those challenging ones where you had to rotate your hip or kick your feet up in the air. But then again, look at the state of their dance instructor, he wasn't in the shape to do those either.
Finding partners was the tricky part now, Botros rubbed his chin and looked around for any potential partner for him. Preferably someone who'd at least reach his shoulder with their hand.
Oh boo. So they had to pick a partner they were completely unaware of their existence.
Silver glanced over at Beverly and pouted. Nope she wasn't allowed to dance with her friend.
Partner. Partner, in need of a partner. Hmmm.
She looked around the room and glanced through the many faces she recognized, opted for a young man chillin' out near the wall.
"Hey you!" Silver waved her hands in the air trying to catch his attention. "You, me, dance?" She pointed at him then back at herself, in order for her message to be delivered.

Ooooookay, it was partner time, but they weren't allowed to be partners with anyone they knew too well. Brilliant, that meant that all of his plans had gone to waste. He saw Ella open for a partner and wanted to swoop right in there since they hadn't spoken in so long... they kinda WERE strangers. But Asher snagged her before he got a look in.
ASHER. Grumpppp...
Theo cleared his throat loudly and stood with one hand on his hip. Trying to entice the ladies in, clearly. "Ahem..." Anyone wanna.... you know, get their groove on with this fine and dandy Slytherin? He promised to not be picky.

Right, so now she needed to find her partner. Someone she didn't know all that well. So none of her friends, right. Okay.
So Schuyler's eyes panned across the room in search of prospective partners. And this search did not take very long because who did she spot quite quickly? Professor Botros! Cute old man. Gentleman. Who probably also was a very good dancer because all old men knew how to dance, yes? That's the way it seemed. Plus in that tux he just LOOKED like he was a fine dancer.
In her fine red dress, she made a beeline towards him. No claiming Botros, fellow students.
"Hello, professor," Schuyler said with a smile as she stopped in front of him. "You look very handsome in that tux. Would you like to be my partner?"
