 Feel like looking at some stars? You've come to the right place. From here in the Hogwarts Observatory you can see a tiny fraction of the 400 billion or so stars found in the Milky Way Galaxy. This circular but spacious room has been locked and opened as many times as there have been Astronomy professors staffed at the school.
EXCEPT THERE ARE NO TELESCOPES BECAUSE THEY WERE REPOSSESSED BY GOBLINS!!
Best be cleaning those before using them.
Large star charts are pinned to the walls which anyone is free to study for own leisure or school assignment. Don't try and take the charts down though, as they are charmed to warn if somebody tries to remove them.
Stargazing is an activity best practiced at night and therefore the observatory remains unlocked. Students adhere by a curfew and after that hour no students should be found out of bed. If you desire to study the heavens after curfew, you need a signed note from Professor Flamsteed showing that you are allowed to stay up after hours. If caught after hours without a signed note you can expect that there will be consequences like loss of house points or detention.
The observatory is place for scientific inquiry much like the library is a place to immerse yourself in books, since it’s a shrine to our massively beautiful universe. Please respect any professor or student spending time in the observatory by not running around or shouting in high pitched voices. Just because Professor Flamsteed isn't currently in the observatory doesn't mean he isn't watching what is going on.
OOC: you do not HAVE to RP your character asking permission from Professor Flamsteed in his office before posting here after hours and may pretend that you received permission. Also, please keep in mind that while looking at the stars can be a romantic endeavor, that is not the purpose of the observatory and any mischief may result in points being deducted or detention.

Jake was excited for tonight. There was no real reason, though, other than the fact that he was looking at the stars with Anya. It was sort of their thing. Sure, it was probably a lot of couples' thing... but it didn't make it any less romantic, did it? Plus, he and Anya usually did it on the roof of his house. But since that wasn't possible then the Observatory would have to suffice.
He entered the room tentatively, looking around to make sure no one else had the same idea that he did. When he was confident that the room was empty he entered. A quick walk around the room, then he was at the large telescope. He looked through it for a moment before moving onto the smaller ones. He was wandering. Nervous.
Pulling the sleeve of his jumper down over his hand, he wiped at the rusty and dusty telescopes. In case Anya wanted to actually do some scientific-like star gazing while they were here. Although... a rusty ring around her eye would probably be pretty funny. Maybe another night.

This would be the perfect time to add the 'but not as lovely as you' line, but Jake figured since he had already gone with enough cheesy to get him through the night.

Mars? She squinted toward where he was pointed. "Yeah." She tilted her head to the side and continued looking. "You can probably see Uranus... or Jupiter with a telescope pointed that way." It would be dark enough here.

As soon as they'd come through the castle, Quazi looked over her list and chose the first thing she saw to take. Telescope? That would be worth loads of money, she assumed, and she wondered how much they could sell it for as she made her way up to the Astronomy Tower with her Extendable Carpet Bag. The female goblin entered the Observatory (unlocked? Hah. Wizards) and stepped inside, heading over to the giant telescope and shoving it in her bag.
Ah. Were those small ones, too? The ones that weren't crusted over with rust and dust, Merlin knew those wouldn't sell for much, looked like good pickings. Were those supposed to be on her list, too?
Quazi glanced around, then dropped those in as well.
What next?

Anya dragged Snakey up to the observatory. "They're just awful." she complained. All rusty. They needed a good cleaning. And yes, Anya talked to Ariana about things like this. Rusty telescopes were a valid conversation point.
"I bet we'll get points if we clean. Or better yet. Buy replacement telescopes." She could just imagine the Professor's face.
She faltered as she stepped into the observatory. What was that...? She blinked several times. "Umm..." she said hesitantly, "I'm not sure you're supposed to take those..." Thingy person thing.
... ... she needed her magical creatures book.

"It's my job, actually," the female goblin clarified for the young witches, an easy smile filling her face. "I've been sent by the bank- I'm sure you're familiar with it, misses? It's the only wizarding one in the world- to collect these, seeing as they are rightfully ours. These telescopes are actually the property of Gringotts, not whoever this Professor Airey person may be." They were. They were HERS, because Hogwarts couldn't pay them back for loans, and Quazi knew it for a fact.
"Now, would you two mind moving to the side, please, so I can get through? There are a few more things I have to repossess before I can report back to work."
Excuse you, little girls.
She was on a deadline here.

Look at her baby lion being all cute and calling for help haha, she really did Adore Anya, really she did.
"I don't think I can allow that." she said stepping in front of the goblin as it tried to leave. Surely it had to have some paper or something stating the repo for them to be able to take it.
So as Anya yelled for the professor she looked down at the goblin " surely you have some paperwork or something that states that these are legally yours, I mean I can't just let you walk out of here, I don't know that your really from Gringotts, you can be a goblin from everywhere." really. so she needed proof.. PROVE YOURSELF LITTLE GOBLIN DUDETTE!

Quazi was ignoring everything these two girls were saying and waiting for them to move- until the littlest one started screaming, that was. That was it, she was out of here. She'd been clinging to her carpet bag for dear life, but now it was shoved under arm while she did the dirty work. The goblin took hold of the screamer's shoulders and shoved her backwards into the older, bossier girl, pushing them back and running past them.
"GET OUT OF THE WAY IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOURSELF AN INJURY, CHILDREN."
She continued shoving past students until she was safely out of the Astronomy tower.
Whew. That was a close one.

Anya nodded fiercely at Ariana. Yeah! What she said! Anya really needed to work on this Gryffindor thing, didn't she?
But Ariana did bring up good points. Shouldn't they have like... a court order? Or a badge? Or something other than a weird head and a Santa sack?
Her eyes widened as the... goblin (that was it, right?) came practically CHARGING toward her. Without thinking, she stepped in front of Snakey.
...but that seemed to be the thingy's plan anyway...
Because Anya was gripped by the shoulder and shoved. She stepped back into Ariana before falling forward onto the ground.

That THING just SHOVED her!!

Audrey stumbled upon the observatory. There was so much of the castle to explore that she was beginning to get lost. Walking in she felt completely relaxed. One of her favourite things was to be able to look at the stars, and to figure out the constellations. She walked over and began to browse the star chart. | |

Nigel had the idea to come up here and play a prank. Not a huge one. But enough to put a little lint on all the telescopes. He had a bag of lint in his back pocket and was ready to use it until he walked up and saw people there.
Well it liked something happened. Was that Oakey's girlfriend. And why was she on the ground. Nigel spotted another girl getting off the ground.
"What Just Happened Here?"
Nigel said to whoever wanted to answer. Nigel hoped it was not those rumored goblins

Airey had been doing his last night patrol of the Astronomy Tower before calling it a night and returning to his quarters when he heard a whole lot of noise coming from the Observatory. He probably should have felt a little embarrassed that he was walking around in his yoda slippers again, but since his nicest suit shoes had gone missing - nargles perhaps? - he had to make due with what he had.
"WHAT IN BLAZING COMETS IS GOING ON AROUND HERE?!" he said as he immediately stepped into the Observatory and saw the crowd of students and....WHAT?! "NOT alright to practice your Disillusionment Charm work on MY telescopes. SHAME ON YOU ALL!" He even waved his finger back and forth for emphasis. "Not to mention at THIS hour. I am going to give you ALL detention for being out of bounds after curfew and I demand you remove the charms on ALL my telescopes."
NOW.
The professor looked the most serious he had ever - which was really saying something considering his usual passive and almost hippie like persona.
Oh, and one more thing.
"I also need to see your Hogwarts identification cards."
NOW.

Okay. How did Dylan hear her screaming and the Professor not? Anya was pretty sure she had the damsel in distress screech nailed. But... you know... it was sort of sweet Dylan showed up after the trouble was over.
"The weird looking thing took all the telescopes and... and..." she took a deep breath. "Snakey wants papers."
And yes, that required that much of a dramatic buildup. "Also... it pushed us. If that matters."
Oh. And hi Ravenclaw person. Anya didn't know him, but she gave a polite nod. Yup. It didn't seem proper to give her name given she'd just screamed for help that never came.
Andddddddd there was the Professor. "I didn't do it." she said automatically holding up her hands.
