As you walk into the History of Magic classroom the first thing you notice is how warm the usual drafty room seems to be despite the lack of a fireplace, in fact some people would call it down right welcoming.
Professor Scabior is uncharacteristically not by his desk, instead he looms right by the door offering the faintest of smiles at you as you enter. "Morning."
The desks have once again been re-arranged so that four desks are alligned per row, just to give the classroom a slightly different look. Sadly, no colourful inks or fancy quills were on the desks this time, but that didn't mean nothing was placed on them. Upon the middle of each desk rested a world map, detailed and filled with its own kind of information.
Kindly take your seat and lower your voices, after all, there is no reason why points should be lost today.
OOC: Class has started now, please no posts announcing late arrivals, as that will result in lost of points. If you want to join in, I encourage you to! Just act as though your character was there all along.

Okay, class had started. Gary who was sitting at the corner (as usual) paid attention to this Professor. History of Magic was not his favorite class, but it didn't mean that he disliked it. Well, he just hoped that he wouldn't feel asleep at this class. Hmm.. The blonde guy stared at the big map. So, what would they do with the map? While he asked the students about their origin, Gary raised his hand.
"Sir. I'm from Vancouver, Canada." said him. Maybe they would learn about History of Magic in their origin country? It sounded.. interesting.

Scabior peered through the door, looking to see if he could spot any more students, some rushing late to class. The hall was strangely empty. No one there. With that finally look he pushed the door shut, anyone who entered now would be official dubbed as late.
"Morning, morning." Scabior repeated again as he made his way to the front of the class. "I think its about time we got started." Everyone on time was here and he was ready to begin.
"I hope all of you have at least glanced at the maps on your desk." If not, well then it didn't matter. "If you tap your wand against it twice on the country of your choosing it will enlarge to display the cities." A little tidbit of knowledge there.
Only when he was up at the front and comfortably leaning against his desk did Scabior speak again. "Now," He paused, hoping that everyone was paying attention. "Which city and country are each of you from?" Born in, or just lived in. It didn't really matter, just where they felt like they were from.

Just a heads up, my next post will be tomorrow at around 2pm EST, when the class will be in full swing
John glanced at the map that layed in front of him. He looked at every country and body of water that made up the Earth. He then looked at the chain of small islands, that he still calls home. He hadn't been there in a while.
When they were asked by the professor, to share their place origin a prideful smile brewed up on his face. His dimples got more prominent with his proud smile. John raised his hand and shared "I was born in the city of Oahu, Hawaii; on the naval base of Pearl Harbor, USA." he said.
Sarassi has sat by her sister and poked her when she spoke first. Oh but now she gets to use that favorite saying she loved, Like my twin said. Giving her sister a smile she answered the Professor's question. Like my twin said I am from and I was born in Basel, Switzerland. She loved her sister but sometimes she answered questions way too quickly!

Marshall wasn’t much of a history person, but that did not stop him from showing up to class on time and taking a seat in the middle of the room. So far the classes at Hogwarts weren’t such a drag. They just had a few scary people teaching. At least Scabior was not going to set any of the students on fire (yeah, he had heard all of those stories about Lafay). He seemed like a pretty cool guy.
But maps? Wasn’t that a bit … first year? Hmm.
Nevertheless, he glanced at the map in front of him and tapped at it with his wand. There was jolly ol’ England, and it didn’t take long for him to find the area where his cousins lived. But he did not linger there very long. Even though he enjoyed living with them for the time being, it just wasn’t a place he could honestly call home. The boy tapped again and watched as the map started zooming in on the States.
“Boston, Mass,” Marshall responded smoothly, a hand up in the air. Need he say any more?
Annabelle looked at the map. She was tempted to tap the map, but should wait for the professor's directions to do so. She then heard the professor's question and she raised her hand. "Professor i am from Northport, New York."
Sophie looked down at the map at once as soon as professor Scabior told them what it did. COOL! She really wanted to tap her wand all over to see the contries become bigger and stuff. That sounded awesome! But she controled herself and did not do it.
"I'm from..." She started, but Alyssa tapped her own wand on the map and Sophie was distracted by the coolness of the thing. "Wicked! Oh, I'm from Newcastle, England, professor!"
Scabior seemed almost.. happy. Weird. Anyway she hadn't really looked at the maps, she saw they were there but figured they would be using them later, which was now apparently. They sounded pretty cool though, did they really zoom in? She tapped on England with her wand and it zoomed in to a map of just the country. She smiled to herself, she was easily amused and could have just kept zooming in.. and out... on different places, but decided to answer the question first, she raised her hand, "Professor I'm from Wiltshire, England." she said simply enough, tapping again on the map as it zoomed in closer on the southern town.
It had a lot of quaint little wizarding villages... but Desiree didn't live in any of them. Her house was well, cut off from the rest, and they didn't really have any neighbors, at all. But you know other than that she couldn't complain. Well she could, but she wasn't going to.

Oooooh...
Theo pulled out his wand, thought of... Australia and tapped it hard on the map. It enlarged! Preeeeeeetteh! Theodore tapped it again. NEW YORK... JAPAN... FRANCE... Wheee, fun! And then, he tapped onto his own boring country. England.
"I'm from London." In a boooooring part of London, though. But nah, it was okay.
Not enough sunshine, though.

Jory raised his hand. "I was born in the town of Georgetown which is in the South American country of Guyana,'' he said.
The Badger tapped his wand twice on Guyana and when instantly it was enlarged he examined the places in the country. . He hadn't visited there in years.
Evelyn stared suspiciously at Scabby. He seemed WAY too happy..which was unusual and a little creepy. She leaned back against her seat as she listened to Scabby talk about the map and then he proceeded to ask where they're from..why!? Heh. They'd know soon enough. But, still.
The Prefect raised her hand. "Edinburgh, Scotland." At least, that's where she was born and she was going back there soon. Anyway, her eyes shifted back to the map on her desk.
Daisy started down at her map, looking at all the different countries. Great Britain seemed so small, which made Wales even more tiny. Poking her wand at the small picture of Wales, it enlarged and the shape became a lot more familiar. Grinning, she tried to find the nearest town or city to her home, which was in what was basically the middle of nowhere.
There had been one other boy in the lesson so far who came from Wales, a fifth year Ravenclaw, which was good, because Daisy hadn't met any other Hogwarts students who lived near her. Not that it mattered, with floo or portkey travel, but it was still nice to know she wasn't the only student from Wales.
She raised her hand. 'Professor, I'm from near Brecon in Wales.' She nodded, pointing her wand at it on the map.

Narumi glanced down at her map there was no way that her little town was on this map, she tapped Japan with her wand twice but quickly stopped it she didnt want to see the other cities, it would make her very homesick.Hearing how Sarassi answered the question she poked her, since she was behind her in all it was easy access. Glancing at Kurumi she flashed a smile, they were from the same Prefecture in Japan. Hearing the Professor's question she said I am from Tagami, Japan. It was a little town she was sure no one heard of it.
Derrick was proud from where he came from. Then again anyone who was born in England would be.He smiled and raised his hand.''Professor I'm from England,Westminster.''He explained.
Messer eyes quickly focused on the map when the Professor said what it do. He took out his wand and tapped it twice on England and its enlarge liked Professor Scabior said. Ah! The beauty of magic!
Where he come from?
He looked back to the map and searched his home country. DENMARK! He tapped his wand again twice. Odense. Odense. Oh he found it. When he was about to answer the Professor question, the Hufflepuff heard someone said that she's come from Denmark too. Oh, Hello fellow Dane!
He raised his hand. "I'm from Odense, Denmark, Sir."

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi took out his wand from his wrist holster and tapped it on the map to see what would happen. Like the Professor had said, the map enlarged and he could see the street details. Pretty cool and useful thing!
He now began to search for the place he was born and after a minute or so he finally found it. The Slytherin tapped the map again and he smiled. "I was born in Milton Keynes, England , sir" he answered after raising his hand.
Just because he looked asian didn't mean he was born there.
Janice looked at her map on the table. It's big, but not detailed enough. As instructed, she tapped twice England's area, being her country of birth, and scanned for Cornwall. She found it within seconds.
Then, she raised her hand and answered, "I was born in Cornwall, England, Professor," like every other student. She noticed that almost half of the students present in the class were foreigners, and she's proud that apparently, a lot of people might come to UK just to get into Hogwarts.
Sarah had never lived in a city in her life. She had spent her life on the farm. Their farm was in England, yet where? Sarah never thought to ask that question. Yet there was a town nearby -Rainbow Vally - "I live near Rainbow Valley, England" Sarah said, raising her hand. Probably no one had heard of a place like that before.
Louisa tapped the map twice as Scabior pointed out and the city of Florida popped up bigger and more clearer than the rest. Her mouth formed a big smile but before she could experiment more with it, he already asked a question. Not an academic one but something to reply to.
"I'm from London, England." She glanced at a couple of students who answered with the same city and smiled at them. Yay! She probably should get to know them more. Even if she was intending to move out once she graduated...
João stopped examining the world map. Not that he needed any examining. He knew it by heart already, as well as their capital cities. Then, he raised his hand and with a clear voice, he said "I'm from Brasília, Brazil." Of course, he was the only Brazilian around.

"I guess some of you don't know what, cities are." Cities or towns that is. Upstate New York? Somerset? And others. Scabior would have scoffed but, really, whatever, he didn't care. It didn't even phase him that some people, Stella for instance, felt the need to name two places.
The History of Magic Professor flicked his wand, drawing a large identical world map to the one on the students desks up onto the board. Each time a new city and country was said, Scabior tapped his wand, putting a red dot on the map where said city was located.
Switzerland. Denmark. Japan. United States. Guyana. Canada. Brazil. France. Great Britain. All countries where students in the class came from. Once everyone was finished he took a small step back to look at the map. "A lot more foreigners than I thought." Way more in fact. As an afterthought, Scabior tapped his wand, causing another dot to appear in the large town where he was born. "I myself am from Paisley, Scotland." Good place. Good place. Mostly just because he was born there, no other reason really.
He gave a nod to his fellow Scots.
"So-" He turned back to the class. "-Cities are cities. Sturdy and all that." Obviously, since they were on land. "And you all have some sort of connection to a certain city or town." Well hopefully. "You lot, answer me this" He paused "How do you lose a city?

Gideon watched as Scabior created another map, this one documenting where they were all from across the world. A lot of foreigners indeed. At the mention of the professor's own hometown, he noted the fact that they at least had one thing in common both being Scots, a bit taken back by the nod in his direction and those of the rest of them.
Lose a city...interesting concept.
He thought on the subject and raised his hand as an idea came to mind. "Well the city could be the victim of a volcanic eruption," he answered before lowering his hand back down to his desk. There was at least one city in the mediterranean coast that the description belonged to. "Or another natural disaster."

How could you lose a city? Indy mused for a few moments, before she stuck her hand into the air. She wasn't sure if her hand was that clever. But she liked it. And it was pretty logical. "well...maybe a city cause lose it's status as a city? "She mused with a little smile. "I mean the queen of england used to decide on special occasions what towns could become cities. So surely if the city is like really naughty, she can take the city status away? And then.. the city would be lost?" Kind of made sense. And Indy was sure nobody else was going to think of an answer like that.

Well, that was interesting. And a weird way to word things out. Louisa pondered this for a second before raising her hand, "If you mean lost city as in vanished, wiped off or ended there would be too many ways. War being most significant. Whereas if you mean losing cities as in losing their title, then it could be desertification..." She trailed off, unable to determine what exactly the professor meant by 'lose a city'. Although desertification was probably connected to villages more than cities... oh well.

How do you lose a city? That was an interesting question. Ella supposed that most cities were lost when something bad happened...like a hurricane or tornado or tsunami. Unfortunately for her, someone had already said natural disasters. Thinking a bit more on the subject, Ella came up with another idea. "Well Professor, big cities could fall due to economic struggles." Not that she knew much about that but money meant power so if money troubles happened...power would go too, yeah?
Nigel had no idea how anybody could lose a city. Unless it was a lost city, but then it was already lost so. Nigel was now very confused. Well Nigel had heard of Atlantis so maybe.
"Professor, could it like sink into the ocean, like Atlantis."
Since Hogwarts is real maybe Atlantis was too.
