Default Divination 1

Once you arrive to the Divination classroom, you enter to find what looks like a standard classroom setup. Desks arranged in the center of the room, facing Professor Bishop's desk and organized into pairs, look toward a charmed blackboard which currently simply says "Divination Lesson 1" in a graceful cursive. A good-sized bookshelf is against the right-hand wall and contains a large amount of small fabric-wrapped shapes.

Professor Bishop is seated at her desk, writing on something, the wooden box from her office moved to the desk in here, but she's still aware of the room. Don't think she isn't, just because she looks occupied with other things.

Feel free to take a seat, talk quietly, get your things ready and class will start shortly.

Feel free to post your character entering, speaking to each other or the professor. I'll check in when I can, so don't go overboard, and the lesson will begin tomorrow.

Vadoma smiled and unwrapped her antique tarot cards and places the silk cloth on the table, she wanted to protect the cards as much as possible. Vadoma decided she would start off by reading her own tarot, celtic cross as everyone else was. She went through the deck to find her significator, the seven of cups, and placed it first on the middle of the cloth. Next she proceeded to shuffle her cards until she felt like she was ready.

She pulled out her first card and placed it over her significator, the kind of wands.

Probably another day or so, and then I'll try to wrap things up.
Just as he was gonna lazy-drag himself off his seat to pick up the fallen deck, the Divinations Professor took it up and handed it to him.

He could see her purty lips moving...

That means she's talking to you doof.

"Oh! Uh wha? No... Yes! Uh..... " he babbled, feeling his face getting warm. He took a breath and took the deck of cards from her "Uhm thank you." he started. Annnd... thats as far as he got.

Next, she narrowed her eyes in thought as she considered whether or not she was in conflict with herself.

She didn't have any 'relationships' yet, and she sure hoped she wasn't dying young!

Finally, her eyes grew wide as she learned that she may have to make a big decision soon. She wasn't good with big decisions, but she guessed that might just depend on exactly how big the decision was. "Uhh, yeah, I think so," she answered, her eyes flickering to the card then back to Satine. "So, I'm...pretty much calm and collected, yet I'm in a conflict with myself, and...I have to make a big decision soon."

"...great."
Satine smiled at Sierra's face and couldn't help but breaking out in laughter..."Yes, I have no idea what it means either..." she said with a wink. "And it sounds just as ridiculous when you said it back to me...O goodness...maybe I wasn't a good partner choice for you..." she said shrugging her shoulders again. "Sorry..." Satine felt bad because she was starting to think she had no clue what she was doing and that poor Sierra would be doomed with her.

It took her a good five minutes to read through the card, as she slowly pieced together what the information was trying to tell her.

"Umm, says here you're old, decrepit, and need to be demolished and rebuilt," she announced. She paused for a moment as she let that reading really sink in. Something about it just didn’t seem quite right, for Satine really didn’t look that old to her. Surely a fifth, sixth, or seventh year wasn’t on their way out! "Umm, hold on a second."
Satine continued laughing..."Yes that might be me, old...check...decrepit...check and in need of being rebult...check..." she smiled at Sierra trying to lighten the mood.... "You're good at this..."

"...I think," she said. "How'd I do?"

You know, other than that little blurb about being demolished and rebuilt in the beginning...
Satine's face went into deep thought at her final reading...hmmm...old beliefs and being safe..."Wow...you really did do a great job...that makes sense...and completely and totally explains me..." she paused thinking about how that related to her again...

She shuffled her deck and pulled another card from the top flipping it over...

The Card was the:

the Strength Card

She checked her note and then thought about Siera's first card..."Okay here goes..." she said before taking a deep breath.

"This card is one of motivation and courage. Your self-confidence, inspiration and motivation should be at a high at the moment, if not, it soon will be. You will need to remain patient though, and wait for the results you want. By remaining self-disciplined and strong you will reap great rewards for your courage and endurance. It is encouraging you to find your inner strength and trust in your abilities and you will use the full potential of your skills and experiences...." she thought about how that linked to the first card...

"I think that means that whatever you decision that you must make, you should be confident in your answer and then strong in your decision..." she let her words fade out almost like a question and statement at once.

She looked up and smiled at her thinking wow she is going to think I'm the dumbest Ravvie....

SPOILER!!: prof bishop
As she arrived at Mr. Perevell’s desk, Renée looked down at his spread for a moment, before glancing to him with a friendly smile. She had to give him points for being different, as it had seemed most of his fellow students, with a few exceptions, had veered away from the spread discussed in the lesson and gone with simpler ones, but it seemed he was still confused. “The numbers indicate the order in which the meanings progress, yes,” she replied to his question, turning her attention to the image still on the chalkboard. “You could either have analyzed the readings as you drew, or could work on them from this point, but yes. I would suggest following the diagram and looking for the meanings as you followed it to the end.” Perhaps she hadn’t been quite as explicit in her directions as she’d thought. He’d seemed to understand the basic idea of the spread, at least, though. So that was progress. She’d keep her eye on him though, in case he needed more help.

"Thanks professor, I'll try then" Raven say.

now for the reading
SPOILER!!: card no 1 = the significator

Raven stared at the card "it's a Lion, what a coincidence he is a gryff" he said. he continue reading what he book says. but Raven most admire is the woman in back of the lion, she is very confident in over powering the lions. Basically the lion is more strengthfull than the lady, what is that means, he read again "ah, it's mind strength is more vicious than the physical, raven smile", is that he really is.
SPOILER!!: card no 2 = the question, conditions surrounding it

Raven read the book, "this means, he is likely be unbiased in making observation and prediction or what ever, Raven smile again, he is amused what his reading is true of a myth. can he be as neutral as the the justice will be, physically, emotionally, spiritually --what ever.

Divination was a strange subject, but very enjoyable!
Nika laughed and when she caught her breath she said sorry I'm only laughing because we both seem to have a bit of trouble trying to interpret our cards!" Nika kinda of liked the class although it is confusing it is very back.

SPOILER!!: card no. 3 = conscious awareness

Raven got confused to what be readed in the book, but yes this is he, a man of wild behavior and unbridled desires with temptation, he involuntary say, he then grab his mouth before others heard him. then, he flip the fourth to sixth card
SPOILER!!: card no. 4 = unconscious knowledge/influences

This card for Raven understanding is for unconscious knowledge or influences, but what is this, he already know some of the card say,
"I'm a wizard rather than a muggle, isn't that enough" he say to himself. but yes, Raven loves to reflect the past in the present, and make move upon it, he became confused about it, but he choose not to bother professor Bishop for the moment.

At least most of them seemed a bit enthusiastic about the lesson, and even those who had seemed lost were trying to find a way to keep moving through the lesson. She knew herself that that was the way to begin. Trying to figure things out, and even though she hadn’t really gone through that recently, other than in changing jobs, she understood their hesitancy. Especially when it came to possibly learning things from the cards they hadn’t known before. Even fumbling readings sometimes revealed things. She imagined at least some of the students weren’t aware of that, though, which was why she was there to help.

Looking up again from her spot near the front of the room, Renée looked questioningly toward the young girl who had seemed a little like she thought she’d been forgotten. Walking over, she paused by the girl’s desk as she pulled a deck out of her bag. “Well, it seems you have a bit of an advantage over most of the rest of your peers,” she commented with a smile, eyes indicating the personal deck. “You’re perfectly welcome to stick to doing a reading on your own, unless anyone is willing to join you,” she added, glancing around the room to see if she could find anyone else who seemed like they wanted a partner. Nobody seemed to be obvious, beyond Simon the little Hufflepuff, and she didn’t think either would suggest pairing up in this situation. She couldn’t be sure, but until then, she’d help the girl along on her own. “It seems you have a good start.” Book out, cards. She just needed to shuffle and draw, then she could really see what came out.
Charley noticed Professor Bishop walking towards her desk after she placed her cards on her desk, and tried to hide that she was beaming when she told Charley that she had an advantage over her classmates. That was her favourite thing about being, well, Charley. It was her nature.
Always on top. Always over-prepared. Always the smartest. Always the best. Always the brightest. Sometimes I doubt her hand leaves the air during class. She reminisced over the comments her mother told her that teachers had made to her about her daughter. Of course, Nathaniel said them sarcastically back to her consistently, but Charley knew it was worth it.
"Thank you, Ma'am," she said, that momentary feeling of success seeping through her words. "I think I'll just do it myself."
As her Professor's attention drifted, Charley took the cards from their package and began to shuffle them. It proved to be a difficult task, as Charley had not had to shuffle cards since before Lauren bought the family a deck-or five- of self-shuffling playing cards four years before. Still, she was happy Professor Bishop had not paired her off with someone. Regardless of how little she might know, she would rather work by herself than with someone she didn't know, and the only people in the class she did know were quite older and working with their peers.
She picked her Significator, then drew the first card for her eight-card spread: the Fool, and then the Chariot.
She looked into her book for a description of the second:
The chariot is one of the most complex cards to define. On its most basic level, it implies war, a struggle, and an eventual, hard-won victory; either over enemies, obstacles, nature, the beasts inside you, or to just get what you want. But there is a great deal more to it. The charioteer wears emblems of the sun, yet the sign behind this card is Cancer, the moon. The chariot is all about motion, and yet it is often shown as stationary.

What does this all mean? It means a union of opposites, like the black and white steeds. They pull in different directions, but must be (and can be!) made to go together in one direction. Control is required over opposing emotions, wants, needs, people, or circumstances; to bring them together and give them a single direction, your direction. Confidence is also needed and, most especially, motivation. The card can, in fact, indicate new motivation or inspiration, which gets a stagnant situation moving again. It can also imply, on a more pragmatic level, a trip (usually by car), a vehicle - in the shop for repairs if the card comes up reversed - or a message.

She laid it softly on her desk next to the other card, and then pulled seven more: the High Priestess, Strength, the Hermit, the Lovers, the Wheel of Fortune, the Tower, Judgement, and the Star.
Maybe I should have stuck with less cards. Dad always said this was the best spread, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to interpret all of this. What do these all even mean? she fretted, hoping that now someone who knew what to do would come help, or maybe a friend of hers.
I've been here a week; can I say I have friends already? She made a mental note to check with her mother. It didn't seem like a Henry sort of question. If only he'd butt in now, though. Her successful feeling had faded, leaving her unsure, nervous and she even felt a bit jaded, though she didn't know why.

That's the problem with always being the best, isn't it? When you aren't.

She hadn’t really been having any dreams lately, but perhaps the vision was not referring to that sort of vision. Perhaps this vision was in the literal sense as in the picture of her father under a different name she had found in the library. “I think that’s exactly it,” Kurumi nodded. “Most importantly, the Magician card stands for the "reveal" - as in a magic trick,” Kurumi read from the textbook.” Emphasis on NEW. When the Magician card appears, the Querent is likely to say: "Now there's an idea! Why didn't I think of that before?" Truth is, the Querent had that idea in his head all along. The Magician merely revealed it to him. But what will the Querent do with this idea? That's a question for the next card,” Kurumi set the Magician down on the table and felt her heart thumping against her chest in anticipation for the next card Eino turned over.

The Temperance. Kurumi picked up that card next and held it side by side with the Magician as if the two cards were having a conversation with each other. Perhaps they were whispering secrets about Kurumi and if she watched them closely enough she could hear. Kurumi shook her head for a moment. She was over thinking things. This wasn’t logical. They were two pieces of paper with a design on them. Not real living and breathing beings. Still, she couldn’t help but feel that there was some sort of connection. Something that was staring her right in the face. She looked at Eino when he mentioned that she would get help from an unlikely source. An opposite of her as it were. “Maybe this is referring to Mrs. Elo?” Kurumi asked more thinking a loud than anything else. “Or maybe…it is talking about us merging somehow? We are pretty different.” She shrugged. It was true, Eino was blonde and Kurumi had black hair. They came from different countries and their ways of thinking were pretty different yet they were helping each other out a lot.

Eino flipped over the next card and Kurumi groaned before she knew the meaning of it. Recent past and her being a fool, well that certainly did not sound good. She had been pretty blind as a child, ignoring all the hints that were obviously put in front of her, and she was paying for that innocence now. “That card is spot on,” she found picking it up and laying it next to the other two cards. “I really do feel like I am starting over at zero.” She smiled at Eino who, at the moment seemed to be more innocent than she was. “I am not sure that past is fully behind me yet. I need this Magician card to kick in and show me those new ideas he is supposed to represent.

All three of the cards were having a conversation among themselves about Kurumi’s fate and they were not letting her in on it, at least, not yet.

Tarot card reading wasn't easy but maybe Eino should spend some time memorizing their meanings and mastering different spreads, then he could be Amazing and Magnificent Eino the Soothsayer! and he could read people's fortunes to earn monies to buy cat food for Walnut. Alas, he was very far away from that, and right now he had to stick to referring to the book.

"The next card is the the short term outlook, it says: 'This card indicates events that are likely to take place in the near future - generally within the next few months. It shows how the situation is going to develop and unfold, if things progress on their present course, over the short-term.'" He paused and looked up at Kurumi. "I guess this will show us what will happen with Mrs. Elo." He shrugged and took another card from the deck. Flipping it over he saw The Star. "'The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench the Querent's thirst, with a guiding light to the future.'" He read before turning to Kurumi. "I think you can expect something from the meeting with Mrs. Elo, that will possibly lead to something much bigger, so maybe she won't know everything you want to know." It said it not predict 'immediate or powerful change' so maybe Mrs. Elo might not know very much, but just enough to guide Kurumi's curiosity into something much greater. Hopefully, it wasn't something bad.

"Now it's going to be the Present State of the Problem, which means 'This card indicates whether the situation is on its way towards a resolution, or has stagnated.'" Well, supposing that the previous card lead to something, this card should either indicate a positive or a negative outcome. Eino hoped very hard to pick a good card, so it would be a good outcome for Kurumi. He closed his eyes and picked a card. He opened one eye and peeked to see what was under it. The Moon. Eino didn't like this card, but according to Kurumi he couldn't change it, so he flipped through his book to find the meaning. "'This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods.'" If this was true, it indicated that there would be some turmoil in Kurumi's near future. "D-d-don't worry..." Eino struggled to console her. "I'm sure it's not always accurate."

"M-moving on..." He said quickly pulling another card from the deck. The High Priestess. He showed it to her and read its description. "'The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you.' This is the seventh card, which is supposed to symbolize outside influences, so I suppose it might have to do with what others know that you don't and how that will, perhaps, influence the outcome of the situation."

Really, the Slytherin would have been working on her tree of life spread or whatever it was called, and she was! Even had a deck of those tarot cards sitting right in front of her! Some of the spread out, and others looking as if they were actually part of the tree spread she was doing.

But, only a few minutes in, she lost interest.

And losing interest could only mean two things in a Divination class. One being you find something else to do and mess around all the while looking as if you were paying attention, or two...you start to nod off and fall asleep.

She was doing both.

Both messing around with the cards, mostly staring at this Moon card, and forcing her eyes to stay open. That didn't mean every now and then she'd shut them only to realize that she better open them again before she really fell asleep.

*snort*

She could think of someone else that was old, decrepit, and needed to be demolished. Pfft. That candy lady just wait until she was of age. She...just...wait!

Kurumi nodded as she picked up the Star card and examined it as she had done with the previous cards. Kurumi found that she could relate to the story of this card. She was much like the fool, lost and hoping to find herself on some sort of spiritual journey. Yet, even with all this hope she was feeling she had lost everything, even herself. Still, a single star in the heavens, perhaps the first stat of the night, waiting for her to make a wish on and ready to give her some answers. "You picked another fine card," Kurumi smiled reassuringly, you know, just in case Eino was worried that she would be upset that the cards didn't say she would be getting instant satisfaction from their research. At least, they said they were going to give them a start and perhaps Mrs Elo would say something to guide her down a path that would give her more powerful changes.

Kurumi's eyes narrowed at the Moon as she picked it up and set it down next to the Star. Kurumi had always liked the moon, especially with the stories growing up about rabbits living on the moon making rice cakes. This card was the total opposite of fluffy white bunnies and more about secret otherworld where lies the most powerful and dark magic. "Maybe this means that what we, um, I am dealing with has it's hand in the dark arts...like, Dark Wizards," Kurumi said nervously. Either that, or these cards were warning her about Mr. Ikenna - the man she was turning to for advice and comfort.

Now turning her attention to the High Priestess card, Kurumi nodded. "Well, I think I already suspected that much," she said trying to laugh it off a bit. "There are so many people around me that know the answers and I know next to nothing."

Turning back to Violet she flipped over the next card in the nine card spread. Again it was a peculiar card, The Judgement card. From what she understood from class this card was about rebirth and forgiveness. It reveals that a new change or transformation will happen to the said person. Funny that this card should follow The Tower.

"Vi, this is a weird batch. I don't know why they all flow so well together. It's erie." And for some odd reason it was like Selina knew what was going to come next. Like she could see it, it was an odd sensation. One she was not accustomed to having. Then she remembered what her Aunt Jennette once said, "Sometimes, Selina, I just know what comes next. It's weird." What was happening to her?

So she tested her theory. "Your next card is going to be The Temperance." Then when she flipped it over it was so. Selina jumped back from the table slightly. How did she do that?
As Selina felt the need to answer the question she had posed to Heather, Renée gave the girl a smile. “Of course, although you’re a bit off. She stands for secrets only in the way that she may or may not reveal the information she knows to you. More accurately, she stands for illumination, learning the secrets necessary for what your path is. The secrets are within yourself, really.” She was pleased that someone had felt the need to ask, especially as in a way it fit with the card in question rather well. Knowledge that one could impart, if the questioner knew how to ask. But then she went on to the others, as it seemed the little group continued with their own readings. No need to dwell when others might have new questions.

When they were done, Jake said nothing but glanced at the cards and then at Treyen. He raised his hand, still looking at the younger boy, and spoke. "I have a question for you, Professor Bishop."

Stiiiiiiill looking at Treyen.

"And just for you."

Finally, he looked at the woman in question. "Surely when doing a reading, as long as you are even subconciously looking for a way for the cards to apply to you, then they will. It's all so vague. Even if I asked the cards a question then the response would be vague and deep in one's mind they would force the card meanings into place for the situation."

... but all in all...

"To me they're just... cards with pictures. Some branches of Divination I get... but not this one." And a whole bunch of others. Maybe he just agreed with ONE branch.
New questions. It didn’t come as much of a surprise as the next hand Renée saw raised was Jake’s. The Hufflepuff had seemed to get through his partnership with Treyen relatively unscathed, which she had wondered about given the rest of the lesson, but she turned to him questioningly as he spoke, nodding at the pointed comment that was more directed at the other Hufflepuff than truly herself. “True,” she began, as his almost rambling question progressed. “Subconscious influences are definitely a large factor in doing a Tarot reading. However, you’ll find it’s easier to think about it when you consider doing readings for others. In some cases you may not know enough to be able to truly influence the cards in the way you mention.” Well, when you weren’t possessing of certain talents that were frowned upon in the general Divining community. Most knew little of their clients. “That’s why the question is so important. It helps channel your analysis to fit. I would disagree with the idea that you’re forcing the meanings at all, however. Analysis isn’t about force, it’s about understanding.” And most branches of Divination spent a large amount of time in interpretation.

She nodded again as he continued, though. “Of course. Tarot is cards with pictures, Crystal gazing is a
search for pictures, as is tasseomancy. Anything involving symbology will involve pictures, in one form or another.” She paused, before giving him a smile. “I’d be curious to know which branches it is you do ‘get’.” Knowledge of her students helped in class planning, although she couldn’t guarantee she’d use his suggestions. There were many ideas she had for subsequent lessons already.

Suddenly her quill took it's own motion and starting writing... shocked yet interested a quivered voice emerged, "Professor!" as she was starring.
She was distracted from Jake by another student calling for her, and Renée turned curiously to see one of the younger Gryffindors staring at her hand in surprise as it scribbled away. “Miss Hartly,” she said, making her way over to the girl’s desk and looking down gently before giving the girl a little smile. “Been around any of the school ghosts lately?,” she asked. Not in a mean way, of course, but there was a hint of amusement to her tone. If she was reading the Gryffindor’s expression right, she thought it was automatic writing. Which, as had been previously discussed, while a fascinating topic in itself, wasn’t exactly divination. Just startling, and unexpected, it seemed.

Looking up from Miss Hartly’s desk as she heard yet another person call for her, Renée mentally sighed. She was about to head over, to tell the girl that she was free to work on her own if a partner didn’t appear, when another girl stepped in and she smiled. “Well, it seems you’ve found a partner,” she said simply to the girls. “You should have enough time to attempt a reading or two before the lesson’s over,” she added. She imagined that enough of the students were ready for things to wrap up, but she didn’t want to deny everyone the chance to try to use the cards. That wouldn’t be fair to them, even if they were thinking it was impossible. Nothing was gained without trying.

"Oh! Uh wha? No... Yes! Uh..... " he babbled, feeling his face getting warm. He took a breath and took the deck of cards from her "Uhm thank you." he started. Annnd... thats as far as he got.

Just then Salander turned and saw the young Slytherin he met at their house table last year... and then again on the trains "Uh.... Faye-- no Fee! You're Free right? You got someone to read your cards for you?" Not that he knows what he's doing....
Trying. Something Renée imagined was done quite a bit when it came to Mr. Salander, and she couldn’t help but be amused as he seemed utterly stymied by her speaking to him. Definitely someone to keep an eye on. If just for the possible stories, she thought, thinking once again of the jokes about crushes she had going with certain other professors. “Breathing is good,” she said to him with another smile, as he stammered his way through a response and took the deck from her. “Generally recommended for survival. And you’re welcome,” she added, giving him a bit of a nod as he turned and addressed one of his fellow students. Perhaps if he got involved in the readings, he’d distract himself from her. She didn’t think it would last, though, as she’d have to speak again before long. She thought he’d live, though, so it remained amusing.

Distracted from her amusement by the others she’d spoken to already, Renée gave a smile to Mr. Perevell as he thanked her for clarifying things, and she watched him as he began doing a reading for himself. Everything seemed to be going smoothly for the boy, so she didn’t stay for long, instead moving along to check on others. And as she got to Miss Kelley, she smiled again. It seemed her compliment hadn’t gone without reaction, and the big grin hadn’t exactly been hidden well enough. No matter, since it had been a compliment, but she didn’t want anyone to think she was favoring students when she wasn’t. “You’re welcome, Miss Kelley, she replied, giving the young girl a nod as she also decided to go it alone. As long as she didn’t have any more questions, things would go fine. She had faith in her students that they could figure out minor issues anyway, and she would still be around for the other questions that couldn’t be answered internally.

However, since she wasn't paying attention all that much to what she was doing, the other conversations around her seemed to have caught more of her attention then this card.

...

*snort*

She could think of someone else that was old, decrepit, and needed to be demolished. Pfft. That candy lady just wait until she was of age. She...just...wait!
Heading toward the back of the classroom again, still occasionally eyeing that spot near the wall, Renée forced herself to go back to paying attention to the class. And, it seemed, her timing was fairly good, as she’d ended up near Evelyn. The spider-girl who had apparently gotten past that scare to attempt to not nod off during the activity. It was intriguing, really, and she looked over the cards spread out on the girl’s desk. Also quite intriguing really, and as she turned her attention to the student herself, a bit of a smile crept onto her face. “So what do you find so fascinating about the Moon card?,” she asked, piquing her curiosity. And if the question needed explanation, she only had to point out the staring that had been going on. Until it seemed Evelyn had brought her attention to the conversation between Satine and Sierra, and Renée stood back and waited a bit longer. She’d said the students could continue their readings for a bit anyway, but she still was planning on ending the lesson soon.

ooc: Try and wrap things up, as I think I'll end the lesson in a little more than 24 hours, after work tomorow.

Default Partner anyone?
«««==I Will Try======Fix You======coldplay==»»»

It was strange but Lucy was still without a partner, well that wasn't good; all her friends had already paired to someone. Is it only I left alone? she thought. Hmmm, maybe i should keep looking. Can Professor help? Nah i'll find it for myself.

"Ok", nodded Emily though deep down she knew that Claire was going to a wondeful witch.
Emily drew the cards and placed them face down in the celtic cross spread. Then she turned up the first card.
"Four of swords..." she said. "So this card would represent that in your present you need to rest, relax and recuperate. Perhaps it's telling you that you need to calm down and ... well.. relax a little." said Emily, she was getting the impression that she wasn't going to be very good at this, though hopefully it would make more sense to Claire.

Emily smiled, maybe she wouldn't be so bad at divination after all... anyway it seems she made a good start, she just hoped she was interpreting the cards correctly.
"Right, your immediate challange", shaid Emily as she flipped the next card.
"The Chariot", she said in an eerie voice before consulting her text to interpret the card....
"Right, so the Chariot may have complicated meanings. Basically it may represent that you are at war/in battle and that victory over your enemies/struggle will be hard-won. However this card may have more complicated interpretations suggesting that perhaps your struggle will be to define a direction, as the Chariot is about motion- although its often portrayed as stationary- and the steeds that pull the chariot go in different directions, your challange may be to get them on track and persue a single direction."... Emily thought about this for a moment.
"Maybe you need to consider what you want to achieve at Hogwarts? perhaps start thinking about what direction you want to go in your last few years here as they will ultimately impact on your future." said Emily, though without any real conviction.
"Or maybe at the most basic level it means you will find it difficult but will triumph over your difficulties and will succeed?"

"wow" said Claire. It seemed like a fair bit to take in, she was glad she wasn't interpretting the cards, it seemed like tricky business.
"both interpretations seem to fit my situation, although I think I preffer the basic interpretation. It would mean that I'd do well right?" she gave a nervous laugh... there were a lot more cards to come out, still plenty of time in which she could die.... or worse... fail. At least she knew she had her priorities right, she laughed to herself.
"Whats next?" she asked, waiting for Emily to continue.

"Whats next?" she asked, waiting for Emily to continue.
Emily turned up the next card, the one that would represent her distant past.
"The Ace of Wands" she said to Claire.
"Well according to the text, the Ace of wand generally represents energy, new passions, or new beginnings."
Emily was stumped here.... What did this mean about her past?
"Have you had any passions or new interests in your past that has led you to this point? or perhaps it may just mean that this is your new beginning?... but thats not really your past is it?" she said awkwardly.
"This is hard", moaned Emily looking at Claire for some encouragement.
.............. "New beginnings.... new beginning..." Emily muttered to herself.
"New cause....new philosophy.... new career... no.... maybe it just means you were born in your past? or that you realised that magic was going to be your life.... in the past.... does that make sense? Like... in your past- when you were young- you were exposed to magic and it was your new passion, your new spark/energy... your new beginning. Which has also led you to this point in your life now... Hogwarts where you will continue your passion... in some sort of direction?"
she rattled off even trying to make some conection with her 'present card' though she wasn't sure if she was doing this right, hopefully Professor Bishop would be along soon enough to tell her she needs to practise because she's completely off track.

Claire couldn't help it, she burst out laughing as she heard Emily ranting off possible suggestions and interpretations.
"Grasping at straws?" she asked with a smirk on her face. She laughed now but was sure Emily would get chance to laugh when she began reading Emily's cards.
"But seriously now" said Claire trying not to laugh... " You're doing well... I think. It does make sense to me but then again I don't know how to read cards so I don't know what to expect."
Claire rubbed Emily's arm gently in encouragement. "Keep going" she said.
