| | Divination 1 Once you arrive to the Divination classroom, you enter to find what looks like a standard classroom setup. Desks arranged in the center of the room, facing Professor Bishop's desk and organized into pairs, look toward a charmed blackboard which currently simply says "Divination Lesson 1" in a graceful cursive. A good-sized bookshelf is against the right-hand wall and contains a large amount of small fabric-wrapped shapes.
Professor Bishop is seated at her desk, writing on something, the wooden box from her office moved to the desk in here, but she's still aware of the room. Don't think she isn't, just because she looks occupied with other things.
Feel free to take a seat, talk quietly, get your things ready and class will start shortly. Feel free to post your character entering, speaking to each other or the professor. I'll check in when I can, so don't go overboard, and the lesson will begin tomorrow. |

| Sellie needs a partner... anyone? ^^
Selena quickly wrote everything down. Merlin, that was a lot to remember. There were so many things!!! Still, Selena was determine to get through this year's divination class. She looked around for a familiar face, or at least, someone who had no partner. Perhaps they would like to partner up with her. Yes, that sounded like it would take a while, but she needed help in this thingy!

Sierra's eyes flickered from the professor to the decks of cards lining the shelves. Was she ready to do a reading now? Well, of course not!
...but, she guessed it wouldn't be a bad idea to actually give it a try. After all, she'd never learn anything in Divination unless she actually tried it out first. She stayed seated while a few of her classmates got started on the reading. She still wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to try this, but then again, she doubted she really even had a choice. It wasn't like she could just say, "Nahh, no thanks, Professor. I think I'll just chill in the back of the room instead."
Sighing softly, she rose from her seat and went to retrieve a deck of cards. Once she had them, she returned to her seat and shuffled them absentmindedly, wondering whether she should try this on herself first or try and find someone to partner with who knew what in Merlin's name was going on. She paused and eyed the card on the top of the deck, randomly flipping it over a moment later.
...The Fool.
...great. Well, that was promising.

Yeah like that worked real well the last time, Simon thought to himself. He meerly shruged at the professor's question before debating his next move as Professor Bishop left them to their task. Maybe doing someone else's reading would turn out better? And they had been given help this time.
Seeing as younger Slytherin looking around as if she wanted to work with someone, Simon decided to give it a try. He picked up a pack of tarot cards and made his way over. "Need a partner?" he asked with a polite smile.

Mainly it was because she couldn't find her friends but like, always good to meet new people. "You too?" she asked. Because - well. She didn't exactly have a reason for asking. Hmm... then that meant that he could do her reading and she could do his. That shouldn't be so hard, right? Hopefully...

Helena took a deck of cards and started shuffling them. She flipped over the card that ended on the top of the deck. Judgement. So Judgement was about rebirth and resurrection, thought Helena as she read the meaning of the card. The idea of Judgement day is that the dead rise, their sins are forgiven, and they move onto heaven. The Judgement card is similar, it asks for the resurrection to summon the past, forgive it, and let it go. There are wounds from the past that we never let heal, sins we've committed that we refuse to forgive, bad habits we haven't the courage to lose. Judgement advises us to finally face these, recognize that the past is past, and put them to rest, absolutely and irrevocably. This is also a card of healing, quite literally from an accident or illness, as well as a card signaling great transformation, renewal, change.
She noted down everything she read; the meanings were... perfect for her.

"Uh huh...me too," Simon confirmed taking a seat so they were on an even keel and could do each other's readings easier and more comfortable. "I'm Simon by the way. Figured it would be more fun and helpful to not work alone," he introduced setting the deck down on the table between them. "Do you want to read first or be read?" he added giving the girl the option.

And there were cards - Selena was terrible with all card games.
Thinking about it she shrugged. "Uhm, be read first please," Selena said. Because maybe then she'd figure out what they were even talking about in class.

Baha.
Wandering over to the kid, Jake loudly dropped his bag on the table and sat beside Treyen, giving him a smile.
Just a smile. "Let's get started. Partner." Well, they HAD been working together all lesson.

Just a smile. "Let's get started. Partner." Well, they HAD been working together all lesson. Okay, the cards, he got a deck of those real quick. Perhaps he'll do a reading on his own, no need for a partner or anything, after all, he'd been pretty good interpreting his own dreams, he was certain that tarot cards wouldn't be that far from different.
Except...
...a bag...was dropped...on his table, which he sort of shared with Alex, by the way. It was a good thing Treyen never took out his books or parchment. Alex had.
Jake.
Treyen narrowed his eyes a bit, and then eyed Professor Bishop, yeah, maybe he could do a partner for this reading. "You go first," he said, slightly annoyed, truth be told, but he gave Jake the deck of cards.

Obviously, decide what cards appear on your own (unless you literally have a deck in front of you, which would be kind of awesome but unexpected.) and have fun with this. I'll be around occasionally to check on things, answer questions when I can, and Professor Bishop is always technically there watching you. Vadoma smiled, she had sat quietly in the class, enjoying what was going on. She was a pro at tarot, she hadn't answered any of the questions because she wanted all of her classmates to have a chance to answer the questions and such. "Proffessor, would it be okay for me to use my own cards?" Vadoma asked pulling out her antique cards that had been in her family for many many years. She had had a talk with the proffessor, a rather enjoyable one at that, about tarot and divination and the like.

Huh?! They actually had to do a reading?! But...but....Ugh. Parke sighed and looked around. He didn't see anyone familiar and he was not going to ask people if they wanted to be partners. What was he, twelve?
He strode over to the shelf and got a pack of cards and walked quickly back to his seat. What was he supposed to do now? Oh, right. The spread. If only he knew how. He should have paid more attention. He stared blankly at the deck. Merlin was he lost.

Okay.
Treyen leaned back on his chair. Even if he totally wasn't fond of the person doing his reading, he'd act civilized. He owed that much to Nolan.
His eyes were on the cards...and then raised an eyebrow at Jake. "Go on, you're supposed to interpret the meaning, Jake." He gestured towards the cards.

Jake looked at Treyen. "She never mentioned a question," he said simply. Or had she? Bishop had spoken... a lot. He'd been zoning in and out. "So a general meaning. Clearly."
The young man opened his mouth to speak, but he was soon interupted. "Yes. Treyen. I know that," he ended up hissing between gritted teeth. He had merely been CHECKING that he was doing it right. "Okay, so... past is The Lovers..." Jake said uncertainly. "So, that means... you've faced difficult positions in the past, maybe. A struggle between two paths," he added all mysteeeeeeeeriously. "Present... Star. That's like... a new you. All fresh and falala and broadening your horizons. It's probably more accurate if it's reversed," he mumbled, moving to the next one. Yes, Treyen was more stubborn than one with open horizons and renewed and stuff. Always a little... GRRRR. "And for the future... the Hanged Man," Jake said, with a sigh that indicated he was glad to be nearly finished. He flipped through his book after a moment, and found one of the possible meanings. "Sacrifice in the present to reap benefit in the future... hmm... maybe something more like... you face a wait before good things come to you. And it says rebirth. Maybe if you wait a bit, you'll be reborn... Ew."
Jake shut his book heavily and gave a strained smile at the boy before glancing at Bishop and muttering to himself, "Total rubbish."
He handed the cards to Treyen and sat back.

"But if we were great at everything we wouldn't need school right?" he absently asked with a chuckle as he finished up after a few shuffles. "Alright here goes," he said flipping over the first card; the hermit card. Simon glanced over at the help Professor Bishop had given them. "Since its first meaning the past it would mean...." he started pausing as if trying to digest what he was reading. "A time of feeling discontent or frustrated," he finished looking up at his companion.

She smiled at the girl, "Howzit, would you like to partner up?" she asked with a little shoulder shrug. Out of the corner of her eye, Sierra saw a figure come into view, and then a second later, some Ravenclaw girl was asking if she wanted to partner up. Sierra's heart skipped a couple of beats. Partner up?! But...she really didn't know what she was doing!!!
On the other hand, though, this girl was older, and she probably did know what she was doing! So with a small smile, Sierra shrugged her own shoulders a little and said, "Mmkay, thanks."
Her eyes flickered from the girl back down to her deck of cards. After a bit of hesitation, she glanced back up. "I don't exactly know what I'm doing, though. This will actually be my first card reading," she admitted. "I'm Sierra Greingoth, by the way." If they were going to be partners, it'd be nice to call this girl something else besides 'the Ravenclaw girl'.

Lila shuffled the deck and put three cards out in front of her. She turned the first card over. Always the hermit she thought before reading it's meaning. Quote:
Represented by Virgo, the Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. This is not a time for socializing; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. Nor is it a time for action, discussion or decisions. It is a time to think, organize, ruminate, and take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent during this time of withdrawal. But such times lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.
In regards to people, the Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist, someone the Querent usually sees alone, someone the rest of the Querent's friends and family may not know about. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing. They will help the Querent find what it is they are seeking.

Satine smiled at the younger girl as she debated partnering up with Satine. "O don't worry, it...well...it kind of gets easier as you go." Satine said sweetly half way lying but sometimes others needed that type of guideance..."Plus, it's a lot easier to do a reading for someone else because...well...I don't overanalyze it as much when it's someone else." she said with a little eye roll...that was Satine the over analyzer...and she was more trying to convince herself it would be easier than convince Sierra.
Satine held out her right hand, "Well it's nice to meet you Sierra...I'm Satine Farris, sixth year Ravvie." she said with pride....she realized Sierra was a Slythie and giggled to herself...yes Satine always attracted Slythies...she still thought that the sorting hat had played a trick on her and put her in Ravvie...I mean Ravvie matched her more but all of her good friends were in Slythie.
She quickly focused back..." So how do we wanna do this?" she asked more as a statement..." What if I flip a card for you and explain it and then you flip one for me and explain and so forth...that way one of us isn't talking for forever and a day." she hoped her explanation made sense to the girl.

Notes! Yes, Parke could always rely on notes. Okay, let's see. First, he needed to shuffle the deck while he thought of a certain...issue? Yes, that seemed right. He shuffled while he meditated on an important issue that had recently come to light. Not that it mattered. This wasn't going to work anyway. He didn't have some mystical psychic power.
Feeling like he did a sufficient job on the meditation, Parke stopped shuffling and looked back at hiss notes. How did one do this spread? Goodness this was confusing.
He placed a card onto the table, vertically positionede. That would be one. Then a card on top of it, horizontally positioned. Right. Two. It appeared the rest of the cards were to be placed vertically. Good. He was already confounded enough as it was. Three, four, five, and six to the right, bottom, top, and left of the first two cards. Check. Aaand... seven, eight, nine, and ten in a single straight line to the right of the others, going from bottom to top. There. Now what?

Sierra just continued to glance at the girl as she spoke, apparently trying to reassure Sierra...or maybe herself...that Divination just got better in time. How much time, though? A hundred years, she bet. Over-analyzing, hmm? This one was a Ravenclaw for sure. Sierra had already arrived at that minutes before the girl extended her hand and officially introduced herself.
Sierra's eyes flickered down to the girl's hand, and a moment later, she was reaching her own hand out and enclosing it around Satine's for a shake. "...first year Slytherin," she said in reply.
Satine's method sounded easy enough, even though it was nowhere near as complicated as Sierra had once made the reading out to be. She thought they were meant to do some type of spread, but if they could get away with just flipping cards over, then that was more than perfect in her eyes. "That sounds good. Alright then," she said, nodding in agreement.
The girl had mentioned herself going first, and since Sierra really didn't know what she was doing anyway, that was fine by her. She sat up straight in her chair then looked expectantly at Satine.

Was this the first time Jake did a reading? One needed to be focused on something, in case he didn't know. But he wouldn't point it out. General reading. Mmmmhmm. Treyen nodded.
Once Jake started off with his interpretation, the boy kept his jaw clenched and eyes on the cards. He smirked at the last one, it wasn't literal rebirth, but then again, Jake knew that, right?
The Lockhart boy didn't comment, even if he was offered with multiple chances to do so. He'd actually had enough, and still had a reading to do. This was business to him, so he took the cards...and was about to ask Jake if there was something in particular he'd want this reading to be about, but after looking at him for a moment he decided against it. "I'll try to keep my reading as neutral as possible despite my dislike towards you," and he actually didn't dislike Jake, he didn't trust him, until he made those comments about the cards and him being the Fool. Reversed. It was war.
He shuffled the cards three times and then picked out three. They were placed on the table with Jake's pretty pictures facing down.
One by one he flipped them over...slowly, for dramatic effect. Hehe, he could do this for a living. 'Strength' being the first one, followed by 'The Wheel Of Fortune' and then the 'Three of Wands'. Treyen sighed, and then eyed Jake, "Strength. Apparently, you could've been struggling with emotions or impulses in the past, but managed to work that out by understanding its origin, or are still trying to work it out," he said, eying the next card and then at Jake, "And I say that because in your next card, The Wheel of Fortune, you are going through many changes, which makes me believe the past isn't over yet, or you still have some decisions to make according to things that happened in the past or are related to ones happening now," but, oh, yes, he was being totally serious, his tone denoted it, "Whatever decision you make now, will be the groundwork for the next stage of life," and this all must sound stupid to the one who called this 'total rubbish' but this wasn't to be taken lightly. "I believe the Three of Wands should be clear enough for you, Jake after the two interpretations from before, considering that what you've made in the past will come back to you here, usually in a good way, though," he said, eyes on Jake, "You will achieve what you sought after in the present."
The boy placed the cards together and left them on the table. "Feel free to check out the meanings in your book," since the one Treyen had was still in his bag. "Just one more thing...understanding is everything, Jake."
And then he leaned back on his chair again, "We're done." With the reading.

Kurumi turned to Eino while holding a deck of tarot cards. "Be my partner?" she asked calmly, but her eyes were more like begging. "I suppose we should use the Celtic Cross spread since we were just discussing it," she explained as she set their cards on the desk. "So,who wants to go first?" Kurumi got her parchment and quill ready for jotting down bits of information about the readings.

Selena shrugged at that question. She wondered if he knew that no one could be perfect which was why they were in school in the first place. Besides, she was a bit distracted by the shuffling of cards. If she were to do it... let's just say that they wouldn't be a deck anymore. Hehehe.
Looking at the card she frowned. "Wait, so that means that I felt discontent or frustrated with something in the past, right?" Selena asked. Just to be sure, because well, she didn't want to say or think of the past. She had absolutely hated pre-Hogwarts. But whatever, these things couldn't really predict her future and stuff like that.
