Welcome to the first Care of Magical Creatures lesson of the term.
The class area has been slightly rearranged, and instead of seeing multiple rows of benches, the seating has been placed to form a large circle. In the middle, you will find nothing but space, which will be used alot in this class.
Lesson numero one will begin soon, so take a seat and chat with your neighbour while you wait. But make sure you don't talk too loudly or Maya won't be glad that no one hears her over the sound of your own voices.
Where is Professor Saylen? Well, she's not in a costume and currently being busy with a creature inside a covered-up crate.
» Remember to please describe what your character is wearing. You can link to a costume, like so, or explain what your character is wearing - 'She has a lion mask, yellow striped tshirt, orange pants, her fluffy slippers and a tail made of a belt... etc. This is so that Maya can know how you all look, to be able to conduct the lesson to the fullest.
Makeup is a plus, and whatever other accessories you can think of. Points will be awarded for creativity and participation. This class is not a Quidditch match, so no need to stress about answering a question first ; )
Emily smirked, she knew Claire was enjoying this, but it wouldn't last long, and there would be plenty of opportunity to tease her back. "I'm getting a bit of a head ache", she replied after a moment... "Don't think I'll be sick though... I mean the smells aren't that bad."
hhhmmm Emily could suddenly smell blood... she wondered where it was coming from, hoping no one was hurt.
Emily leant on Claire and watched her fasten the rope around their legs. "Ready for this?" she asked as she tried to focus on a good smell so that she wouldn't feel so overwhelmed.
Just then Claire toppled over.
"What the?" she gasped as she tried to get back up. All of a sudden she realised she was missing a wing.
"How the.....???" she said as she stared at her arm- mor lack their of.
"WHERES MY ARM! ....MY WING... MY ARM-WING?!" she started yelling out of shock.
"EMILY!!!.... What.... what.... what do I do?" she stammered.

Emily cracked up laughing... "not so funny now is it Claire!"
It took a while for Emily to stop laughing, she clutched a stitch in her side. But soon decided it was time to get on with the lesson. "So how does this make you feel?" she asked Claire as she pulled her off the ground by her only remaining wing.

"Not good! It does not feel good!" she spat at Emily. "No its not funny, all you got is a whacky sense of smell... Im missing my arm!!!" she said as Emily helped her up.
It was hard for her to keep her balance, she found she had to compensate for the loss of arm/wing by manipulating her body in a way that distributed her body weight a bit more.
She peered down at their bound legs.
"Em... I can't do this, I don't know how...."
She looked down at the rope apprehensively, she was bound to fall flat on her face again.
Oh yeah they are tied together. That happens you know
"Wha? My legs aint sumthin from the food trolley dude...." he grumbled as he struggled to sit up, trying to push-pull Jake up to the sitting position as well. He looked at the Hufflepuff's legs-- which was now practically a blur "At the rate those things are going we could be at the Kitchens in 30 seconds"
They gotta have a plan.
"We could make like a unicycle? We can slow your legs some by adding my weight onto yours and using ourselves to steer towards a direction-- you know like a sailboat?"
A unicycle sailboat. Does that even make any sense?
...
Make. Like. A. Unicycle.
"Dude," Jake gasped, watching his legs in amazement. "How do you expect to do that? We're tied together..."
Wait... were they slowing down? Jake sure hoped so. "I like your thinking though. Tell me more, quick. So we can act when they stop."
Heh. It was weird talking about his legs like that.
"I could give you a piggy back if you weren't attached to my leg," he half joked. It was hard not to be amused.
As for the music... Jake was just relieved that Old Macdonald had stopped his evil work. Mind you... this was annoyingly happy. And right for his fast-paced feet. >.>

"Its going to be ok", soothed Emily, she wrapped an arm around her waist. "Just focus on the music, try to keep in time with it", said Emily as she took her first step forwards. "One... two... one... two... one ... two... one.... two..." repeated Emily in a rhythem hoping it would help Claire.
"Okay, thanks, Belle! That's really helpful. Do you do this sort of thing a lot?"
"You're welcome!" she said happily. "Umm yeah, i always do this sort of thing at family events, i have a big family you see, so i am always paired with my cousins." she shrugged as it was no big deal. "Hopefully we will be our severed body parts back soon." she giggled. "I don't like the feeling of always floating towards the right and i am sure you want ur eyesight back." she giggled a little bit, and went over to the circle where the rest of the students were.

"Thanks," Rowan said. "So are you ready for this?" she asked, binding their legs together. Placing her arm around Jamie's waist to better balance herself, Rowan took the first step with her free leg, feeling extremely unbalanced without her tail.
"As ready as I can be." Jamie smiled and took the first step with her unbound leg as well then said, "On three." She sighed. "One, two...three." She went to move her attached leg in hopes that her sister would follow.

That was probably the craziest thing she had ever heard. 'Sever' was such a creepy and scary movie type of word. Before she knew it, Sierra was stumbling all over the place and using ELLA as support. Grrrr, being tied together was really sucking right now. "Did she sever your feet??!" Merlin's beard. If she did then it sort of defeated the purpose of a three-legged race. It would end up being the two-legged race with Sierra attached to Ella's side.
Oh CRAP. Wasn't she supposed to get something severed too??
Nothing felt wrong with her physically, but she suddenly felt like something had exploded right in front of her. Some giant stink bomb or something. Holding her hands up to block her nose quickly, she accidentally knocked Sierra away from her and they both tumbled to the ground, getting a face full of mud.
"OH!" OH THE SMELL. She knew the smell of grass, mud and possibly crup poop was awful, but THIS took the biscuit. "I feel sick. Sierra, can you smell that?" She had almost forgotten that the girl fell with her. Woooooops.
The stupid music made it all worse too. She felt like a circus freak.
Hearing's Ella's first question caused Sierra's heart to skip a beat, and the first year Slytherin nearly came to a complete halt, once again, to stare down at her feet. Why was Ella asking if they were severed?! Were they no longer there or something!?"Did she--what?!" Sierra asked, flailing about as she tried to focus on her supposedly missing feet. When her eyes fell upon them, she felt herself breath a sigh of relief as she realized she still had all her normal limbs.
"No, no. My feet are still there. I just...can't--AHHH!" she replied, her voice turning into a slight scream toward the end of that sentence. Sierra felt someone jab her in the side, and then because Ella--whom she was tied to--fell down, Sierra fell down, as well. She winced slightly as her partner got a face full of mud.
Sierra sniffed the air. "I--I don't really smell anything out of the ordinary. Why? What do you smell?" she asked, her eyebrows wrinkling in confusion. Had she somehow lost her sense of smell now?!"Come on. Let's try getting up," she said. Using Ella for support, Sierra tried to push herself off the ground.

She felt so bad. This was exactly what she didn't want to happen! "Professor! Please can you take these wierd spells off me and Nika?!" she cried over to where the teacher was standing "she's bleeding. Look."
Oh merlin, this wasn't good!

Whoops! Guess it wasn't her feet, judging by her reaction. And it seemed that Ella had seriously freaked her out. Double whoops. "If your feet are still there, then why can't you walk properly??" She was completely puzzled as to what was 'severed' from Sierra. "What's wrong with yooou?"
Owh. She felt disappointed when Sierra couldn't smell anything. It was JUST her. Ella the freaky pig. "I.." Ella sniffed again, but regretted doing so straight away. She made a face of pure disgust, then blocked her nose again with her hands. "I can smell.. CRUP.. poop." She thought it was anyway. Looking around the class area, Ella noticed that the crup was miles away from her. So why in Merlin's Beard could she smell it's... business? Ella nodded, then made a slightly irritated and a slightly exhausted noise when Sierra pulled herself up by pushing Ella down. MEeeeeerlin! Finally, she was able to pull herself up too.
Once standing, a breeze floated past her and the cruppie smell slowly turned into a fresh grass smell. That was something that Ella could cope with much easier. At least she had realised what was wrong with her...
Super STENCH smelling. Now they just had to figure out Sierra's..

Rowan tried to move in tandem with Jamie. Just as they lifted their joined legs, Rowan lost her balance and stumbled a bit. She quickly regained her balance and all of a sudden her cat (costume) spotted a chipmunk running for the trees. "OH NO!" she exclaimed as she lost control of her legs that seemed to want to chase it. Her legs jerked forward, pulling Jamie with her.

What was what- OW. Ow ow OWWW! The teen finally turned her visibly irritated face towards Evelyn, wincing at her loudness. "Ow! That's WORSE!" So so so much worse. She rubbed the probably damaged ear. "And your hurting my arm to." Leggo!
"To find out what's making that noise." Didn't she HEAR it? It was SO LOUD. How could she not. She gave up trying to remove the death grip and tugged the girl some more, finding it difficult with them being tied together, but she was DETERMINED to find the source.
It was impossible for the teen to NOT hear the professor. The woman could have been in the castle and Arya would have still heard her call her surname. Before she was able to turn around, Evelyn was tugging her HARD and YELLING. Again.
Seriously, when did the girl get so strong? "OW!" The whimper was from both her loudness and the tug. They both HURT. "Stop yelling! Your hurting my ears!!" She gave a poor attempt at prying the girl's arm from her own. "And my ARM." Still. She'd succeeded in getting Arya to stop, which only had the girl pouting more.
She'd heard the professor offer more interesting things while attempting to remove Evelyn from her arm, but she wanted to know what was in the forest. It was driving her CRAZY not knowing. "But...but but.." She bit her lip, and turned her gaze to the woman. "I wanna know what's in THERE." Arya would have pointed, but she was still trying to get Evelyn off her. Which was not easy, the girl must be getting her strength from the rope.
Pfft, Arya and her sensitive ears. She should've yelled right from the beginning so the girl could get used to it. No mumbling from now on. It was ALLLLL LOUDNESS!
Yea, the noise. Evelyn could hear noises, but none of them were coming for the forbidden forest. Having her leg dragged by the Hufflepuff dog wasn't helping her irritation or frustrations either. "Stop...that...!" Gah! Get away from the forest! Jeez, the Slytherin knew it was all cool and all, but to go in right in front of the professor in broad daylight!? Such a HUFFLEPUFF thing to do!
"Stop having sensitive ears!" Merlin! Wha- NOW what was wrong? Her arm? Yea, there was no way she was letting go and having her drag Evelyn allll the way to the forest to check out some random noise that only she could hear. "I'm not letting go." That was final!
...
...
"You're such a weirdo!" With a strong tug, Evelyn started to move in the opposite direction from the forest. Merlin, she now knew what it felt like to be a dang Swedish Short Snout dragon. She was having a horrible time trying to keep upright and balanced while dragging a hufflepuff away from a dangerous forest all the while being tied to her. PFFT!
The young puff held on the the Ravenclaw's hands as he pulled her towards the ground. Her feet touched the ground for a few moments before her one wing started to flap harder. She was hovering once again, but a just an inch or two of the ground. "I don't know." she said "Maybe if Michael tries to pull me down as well?" She then looked between the two boys. "Er, what of yours got severed?" she asked them both.

But it was too late. She was already starting to feel different...though her arms and legs were still there, so that was a plus, right? But still something felt off. She wasn't yet sure what...
But then she started to feel wobbly, like she was going to fall over any second now - and she had a feeling she would. Flailing a little, she quickly grasped Kita's shoulder to steady herself. It was in that moment that she caught a glimpse behind her, and she had to blink several times to make sure she wasn't seeing things.
The tail of her peacock costume - which no longer looked like only a costume - looked about half the size it was just a minute ago, maybe even smaller than half. Was THIS why she felt so off-balance now?
"Singer?" Vashti repeated as the song changed, still holding on to Kita's shoulder. "Oh no, I'm not. That hardly qualifies as singing anyway really."
Kita was in a bit of a shock. In a way, she had always wanted a superpower and having amazing hearing could be seen as one but she felt anything but 'super'. Right now, with the many sounds she could hear making her head hurt and the way she was still wobbling, she felt helpless.
A sudden grasp made Kita look around at Vashti, who was also wobbling. Definitely not a good sign. If both of them were wobbling, it would be a wonder if they made it through this race. "What-" she started but then Professor Saylen's words entered her already packed head again. Vashti must have had a severed limb. "You ok?" she asked.
Kita squeezed her eyes shut as Vashti spoke. Except it didn't sound like she was speaking normally, it sounded like she had a megaphone pointed directly towards Kita and was practically yelling. The throbbing in her head got worse. Even though her only ear (or hole in the head) was on her left side, it still felt as if Vashti's words were reverberating inside of her. "It sounded like singing to me," she said, smiling despite her pain.
" Yes we are above the floor" Rex told Chloe. " Just pretend we are swimming" Rex said to Chloe. " I will make sure nothing will happen to you" Rex explained to Chloe.
"You mean on the floor right? I mean how are we above it?", Chloe said and then let that go and pretened to swim moving her arms like she was swimming and swimmying her feet trying not to think about how stupid she must look.
Jamie frowned. "I really liked that wing too. I'll be alright though. Just a little lopsided. Guess I'll never get the chance to fly." She sighed and waited for her sister to help keep her supported. At least she wouldn't be alone. "How long are we going to be missing our limbs Professor? And will I get my other wing back?" She hoped so.
Hearing another question, Maya retreated from the prone rocky-boy who wanted to make a hat with the Crup... Heh.... and adressed the young girl. "Why, are you missing your limbs?" She asked, mocking surprise, "But you have so many limbs left! They will work nicely." And she hadn't really answered her question.
Oh, unique sounds, gotta dash.

Her eyes widened as she looked at the Ravenclaw boy. She didn't have a voice anymore.
How long was this going to last?
There it was. That's where the sound was coming from. Tinkling from the fairy! "Interesting sound, Miss Gibbins." Impressive. The Crup started to bark and waggle its tail as Maya picked it up again. "Not to worry, you're doing well." Nod.

Merlin's tortillas. That girl had a good set of lungs. Maya had seen the girls topple down... No need to help them up, right? "Miss Greingoth, Miss Ainsworth, everything allright?" She looked down at them, "I'm sure you'll get used to the 'modification' soon enough." Good thing it was temporary, eh?
The fact that Ella was covering her nose made Maya realise what awesome modification she got. "The winds seem to change course, from time to time. I'm sure you'll smell something good soon."
Just...don't get all sick in the area. That would definitely not smell good.

Seriously, this screaming was rather unnerving. They could just talk normal, couldn't they?
And then it finally happened...someone was bleeding.
Sigh.
"Allright, allright, what happened here." Maya walked through the big group, raised an eyebrow at the scene. "How did this happen?" And they wanted the spell off them? Meh, fineee. Tapping their heads with her wand, she sighed, and waited for them to turn back to 'normal'.
Kneeling down, she supposed she should examine the girl. "Where are you hurt?" What could she have possibly done to get so much blood on her hands?

Oh, unique sounds, gotta dash.
Ah, she was back. And with a good costume aswell. "Welcome Back, Miss Slytherin." Hm, someone who still didn't have a partner? "I'm sure we'll find someone."
Her features became more soft as she heard the apology. "Apology accepted. Let's hope it doesn't happen again, fighting with an owl is no good business." Ugh.
Oh, this girl was so LOUD.
It wasn't hard for the Mexicana to find the girls in the mass, with their bickering and...strong voices. "Miss Flores. We don't use those words in my class." Weirdo? Really? "If you haven't noticed, everyone in this class is looking a little funky." Hehe. So, "Let's use some more positive words, si? Or your house will loose points for any more of those words." Si?
And... "Miss Lovegoods, you are not going in there." The Forest, that is, "Remember those spiders from last term? You don't want to meet them again, do you?" Smirk.
" Are we doing good professor?" Rex asked her about Chloe and himself. " I really understand about animals being hurt" Rex said to the professor.

"Professor, my feelings are hurt." Damian would have faked sarcastic shock. if she wasn't a dragon with one wing, then turning serious. "We never fight. He just tries to hug me and.. well, he has claws instead of arms."
"Yes... I'm alright professor."
*Pulling himself and partner back up he nodded to the professor. That fall had hurt a bit. He had heard the professor say something about severing limbs but it didn't fully hit until his leg gave out. His right leg felt like it was asleep but not waking up. How were they going to do this now?*

Just as she was about to respond to the Professor, Jamie felt the commotion building again and then Rowan became the hunter not her sister. She felt the fear strike her to the core. Cats were hunters and some times birds were their pray. She couldn't fly from the situation and she couldn't get away from them with their legs joined. "Stop. NO! Let go of me. Rowan stop!" Her one good wing was flapping frantically.

" We are above the floor, because we can not get hit by any other students" Rex told Chloe. " You are doing great" Rex said to Chloe. " Ready to go underwater now?" Rex asked Chloe.
" Are we doing good professor?" Rex asked her about Chloe and himself. " I really understand about animals being hurt" Rex said to the professor.
"Um, ok, thats thoughtful, I guess. Bumping into other students certainly would not be fun. And go under water, erm, sure,ok", Chloe responded thinking this guy has quite the imagination but he sure is fun.
Of course the legs were the right ones! Now they seemed to be perfectly at ease, hopping flawlessly! See, this was a piece of cake. Piece. Of. Cake.
Cedric was becoming more and more comfortable of doing this queer task, and he was actually beginning to like it... but then....
WHA---WHAT?!
Cedric felt something weird... Patroclus seemed to be forcing him to trudge up, up, up to where...? oh, in the air! Were they flying? Obviously so... but yeah, they weren't meters above the ground yet he could see. But Cedric still grabbed onto his partner, resting his hand over Pat's shoulder at once, just in case something horrid happen and all. Cedric was not in the least afraid of flying. At all. But in their case, bound together, with only Patroclus who could fly, Cedric was helpless which he hated to admit.
He endeavoured to throw the Professor a glance so as to signal help from her or anything she deemed necessary to do. Of that he succeeded; his gaze now fixed upon the professor, giving her a rather bland stare. Heeeeeeeelp.
HEY! The surroundings were beginning to look somewhat foggy, darker. Cedric thought his surroundings seemed to be err... fading or was he just imagining things? Then in a snap, a flick of a finger, or a blink of an eye, pitch darkness greeted his eyes. He could see but nothing. Nothing but black. At the same time he seemed to have lost his ability to see, Cedric started hearing sounds: sounds created by the motion or of the flutter of trees' twigs, birds chirping, wind gusting, yells and chatter of the students from every direction, the latest quirky music the professor was playing... well, of course, they could hear them already even when he wasn't blind yet... but now, they seemed to be louder and clearer, much more audible. Ugh. ODD. "I think I lost my sight." He sighed. "And that eccentric music seems louder."
Cedric hold onto Patroclus harder still, who, as well, seemed to be having a hard time with his fluttering wings and all. Good thing Cedric was beatifully strongly built! If not... Patroclus would have been soon in the air, many feet above the ground. YEAH. It should and must be Cedric that kept the Gryffie prefect from flighting fully.
Laughing like a Mad Man, and now with Cedric holding on tightly, Patroclus wanted to go higher, HIGHER, HIGHER!
The wind that whipped at his face, as he hovered a meter off the ground, made the hair on his head, swish around under his mask. And he loved it!
Patroclus loved to fly, and without a broom was a thousand times better!
The Flying Prefect, Cedric and he should make a band, with a name like that!
"This is AMAZING!" he cried, to Cedric, but it was only then that he realised what Cedric was calling out......the boy was blind....as a bat.

Maya approached the pair and tapped the young boy's feet with her wand. It should make him get his feet back on the ground soon enough.
"No flying in my class." Sha announced calmly, adressing everyone even though she was standing by the two Prefects.

But being blind had its own perks, if ever he did stumble, he would not be able to see the sniggers and snickers being wore by his meaaaan classmate's faces!
Cedric needed a guide... or something. Patroclus, please?
As their feet touched the ground, the HorseLionBoy, had the greatest urge to start stamping his foot, to scratch at the top layer of soil, by draging his foot and stamping again, however he was able to silence the urge momentarily, for he knew the noise would hurt the ears of his friend.
"Are you OK?" he whispered, before a noise that he never thought he would make came bursting through his lips, "BrrrrrrrHHHH"
o_O
"What the helll was that!?" Patroclus whispered, before again he let one rip, "BrrrrrrrHHHH"
He could fly, he liked to paw at the ground and now he could braye.......Patroclus was turning into an Abraxan, but he wasn't too concerned, in fact it was a little bit awesome, it was Cedric he had to worry about. "Just hold onto me," he whispered, "I will make sure, nothing gets in our way."
Violet noticed Selina wasn't even speaking English. She was going to correct her punctuation and scold her for her bad pronunciation, but stopped herself when she then saw Selina begin to point still instructing Violet which way to go without talking. Thankfully, it didn't take long for Violet to figure it out and went along with what Selina was telling her to do. She didn't argue or go against what Selina was trying to "say".
Communicating without speech was difficult. She hoped soon she would regain her power of speech, but it was doubtful until the end of the lesson. Then she felt her arms grow tired from pointing. So she wiggled her head in the different directions. It was like she was moving through water, which was ironic because she was dressed as a mermaid. That was it! Move like a mermaid to win! The whole point of this exercise was to appreciate the creatures we came dressed as. So Selina moved like a mermaid.
Her body contorted to fit the movements of the water and move without legs. She became a part of the water and hoped that Violet would follow. She gestured with her hand the water hoping she would understand the new tactic. They weren't going to win as students, but creatures.
