"As to your question, Mandy, whether a rune is to be 'feared' or not isn't because of its potential properties, but in what context or spell it is used in and what effects other runes around it have. Each rune has two possible effects, the 'normal' effect it would have when activated, and an inverse or reverse effect. Take Thurisaz for example; it can be used to mean evil or protection, depending on how it's used."
"Oh, and before I forget, here's what Ihwaz and Ehwaz look like in comparison to each other:"

"Quite right, three points to both of you," Opteryx said. "One interesting property of this rune in divination and spellcasting is that it's one of the few who have no inverse meaning. I use the word 'inverse' to describe the properties of a rune when it is placed or spelled while inverted or upside-down. This is because Isa looks the same no matter if it's upside down or rightside up. Can anyone name me some other runes who have no inverse?"

Pertho or Perth looks like it may be the same upside down or rightside up, but it doesn't:  "Now, if you invert the rune, you end up with this:  "So Perth does have an inverse. The same is with the case of Kenaz or Kauno, Thurisaz and Berkanan, to name a few. Hagalaz and Sowilo, however, don't have inverses, so six points to Harry for bringing them up."
"As for the case of the blank rune...it isn't agreed upon whether it can be considered a real rune or not, since it's, well, blank. It's often used to represent fate or destiny, and is linked with the Norse god Odin. I like to think of it as a 'wild card' in a chain of runes--that the meaning or effect this rune has on a chain is determined by all the other runes in the chain. As such, the blank rune doesn't have an inverse, or even a reverse meaning. Another five points to Harry for bringing it up."
"To sum it up, the runes without inverses are as follows:" Opteryx waved his wand at the blackboard and the classwork was replaced by a list of runes:

Lee nodded, quickly scratchign down notes here and there and drawing the runes themselves for later usage, he didn't even know why he was taking notes down due to the fact it was all in his textbook. But two lots of notes was better than one yes?

It's good to know which runes aren't affected by this as a future reference when carving or manipulating runes. Any other questions?"
