Sugar Hill Asylum for the InsaneThe Muggles avoid this decrepit old asylum... mostly because of the rumors that it's haunted! The Specialty Area has set up shop here. Sorry about the ghosts!
The Chaucer Ward used to be an area that was utilized for recreational purposes among the patients. Many Asylum doctors believed that Occupational Therapy would work best for the population and taught them accordingly; sewing, billiards, and playing instruments being some of the more mundane tasks. For the Department's purposes, though, the Chaucer Ward has been set up as a mock Daycare, with all the protection charms and magic included.
The entire room as been renovated and repaired from it's previous dismal state. Where peeling, chipped paint and wallpaper once occupied, a clean, clinical white and dove gray has taken its place. The floor, no longer shabby carpets and cracked tile, is now a pleasantly varnished dark wood. New toys, games, and books are housed in book shelves around the room. For all intents and purposes, this is the SAFEST AREA in the building.
All Ministry children are welcome!
OOC: This is an RP thread. So, RP dropping your kids off and signing papers. The Daycare Supervisor, Athena Smith (JennMarie) or the Department Head, Anthony Cresswell (Govoni) will be with your shortly.

This was the furthest thing from being ideal, but unfortunately for her, there were still things they needed to iron out. Like school. Birmingham was far from London - not so much where magic was concerned, but go figure the muggles couldn't fathom the traveling time. Needless to say, Zeke had talked her into having the week off, apparently allowing him to adjust to the new living environment and the wizarding world. After setting the ground rules, they stopped in at a cafe for breakfast before arriving at the Asylum.
How so very appropriate.
Children were maddening, she was learning this for herself.
".... and then there was that man, and he looked like he was going to throw up or somethin'," he rattled off, bringing her back to her senses.
"Mmhhmm, I'm sure he did," she replied, recalling the look on the man's face in the cafe when he discovered there was salt in his coffee.
Zeke's eyes panned the room they stepped into. He knew this was the loony bin, but it looked different to how he had imagined it. It was boring. "Where are the padded walls? the chains? where can I play?" he asked impatiently at her side, tugging at her sleeve. "Are there ghosts?"
Emily had to admit, it wasn't nearly as adventurous looking as it had sounded, poor Zeke, perhaps finding a muggle school today would have suited him better after all.

Anthony had just finished having his heart to heart with the employees...and after assuring them their lives were not in any real...immediate danger, everyone had been sent off to complete their individual tasks. Of course, there was the case of Bradley and Athena...who'd been THRILLED at the change of venue. If he didn't know the both of them as well as he did, nor have the utmost affection, he'd have sent the two out for mental evaluations.
It couldn't be thought about now, though. He, being the leader of this hot mess, had bigger fish to fry...as the muggles said. Those 'bigger fish' revolving around the Daycare; the Daycare where he was currently mulling over forms and talking to himself...They were in an asylum. All insane behavior fit due to setting reasons.
Hearing voices approaching his vicinity, Anthony took a gander...momentarily surprised to see Miss Emily Browne heading his way...with a small boy at that. He hadn't known her to be married...but that didn't matter so much these days. Nor was it really his place to question her situation. Though, that did little to quell the bubbling curiosity. It was in his nature to know all the things. There was little to do about it.
"Miss Browne." He offered by way of greeting...and then his gaze shifted to the small child again. He looked like an adventurous child. Athena was going to love that. "...and who are you, sir?"

"I don't know... but I'm sure you'll get a nice tour of the place," she indulged him before removing her sleeve from his grip and ruffling his hair gently instead. Emily hadn't stepped foot in a childcare before... and Merlin she couldn't believe she was doing it now. Her eyes where everywhere, because despite the fact that the boy had managed to keep living and breathing by himself til now, it was officially her duty to ensure his personal safety. She was going mummy on him, sue her.
He was bored, this was boring. "Can't I go to work with you?" he asked softly, "pleeeeaaassseeee, I'll be good. I'll be quiet, you won't even know I'm there." It would be better than sitting here. Zeke wondered if perhaps he could find his way back after she left, because she didn't seem to be changing her mind. His head snapped up as a man approached, she wasn't leaving him with this one was she?
"Exactly.. I don't need you sneaking off, I need to know where you are," she pointed out, not allowing herself to fall for his trap, knowing full well he just wanted to explore the underground. "Aaahh, Mr. Cresswell," Emily greeted warmly, inclining her head in greeting. Her eyes darted down to the boy in anticipation of his response, he was at least well mannered, something she didn't need to worry about. There would be no embarrassing her in front of people.
... Zeke blinked a few times, before a smile crept over his face. "I'm Zeke," he supplied brightly, wondering if perhaps the man could be useful. Did they do field trips? Could they get ice cream? Could they visit Emily? He was sure there were things he could do to make sure he was sent to Emily. If all else failed.
"I'll need a place for him until we can get him enrolled in school," Emily added after the brief introductions. "Hopefully not for more than a week." That being said, there was the matter of after school care too, which she hadn't thought through. The kid was already proving to be a handful, and this was only the beginning.

Anthony was instantly struck by the young boy's bright smile. A pleasant child! Oh, he could most definitely deal with this. "It's very nice to meet you, Zeke. I'm Anthony." If only all the children could be as well-mannered as this...Yes, he'd need to summon Miss Smith right after getting the paperwork squared away. Also, he had more questions for Zeke...but legal formalities FIRST.
"He's more than welcome to stay for however long you need, Miss Browne." Could he call her Emily? Would that break with the professionalism? "There are a few forms to fill out; your basic information, his basic information, his interests, hobbies, allergies. As you know, we do have Healers on-site that will attend to the kids if any illnesses arise...or injuries." Scraped knees, etc. They happened.
Collecting said forms, he slid them across the desk to her, also providing a self-inking quill. It was one office supply he splurged on. "I'll call Miss Smith in here and you can meet her before you leave." Athena Smith would be, after all, the woman looking after little Zeke here. Anthony would be in and out, as he also had other duties to attend to.
"Do you have any questions so far?"

"Do you have any questions so far?"
The man was nice, he'd give him that. Zeke bounced on the balls of his feet, still smiling. "Hi Anthony," was his response. Right now he was happy keeping to himself, not asking questions yet. They would come. He just needed to figure out which ones took priority.
Emily nod her head, good good good. As long as they needed. "Thank you, Anthony," she replied, breaking the stiff professionalism they'd slipped into. This may have been work for him, but not for her, so she was quite content with playing the pedestrian. "Of course," she acknowledged, forms were expected, though she gave Zeke a look which said she'd need his help. As for the on-site Healers, good luck to them. "I trust he won't give your staff too much of a runaround," she noted, shooting Zeke a warning look. He was both nosy and clingy, so him getting himself into a pickle was a given, she only hoped it wouldn't result in her having to haul his butt back home or to the office, she didn't have time for clingy when she was working.
Zeke continued smiling, his eyes examining the dull room, and Anthony, and Emily. Could he play yet? Where were the other grown ups? He wanted to play with them. Forms and Healers, yeaaahhh he understood. Emily got looks back though, he was innocent, it wasn't his fault things happened when he was around. A solitary nod communicated his understanding. And whoooooo was Miss Smith? Could he play with her? Could they go on a dragon-slaying-ice-cream-eating-Emily-searching adventure? Those were his favourites.
Taking the forms, Emily gave them a once over before accepting the quill. "Thank you, that would be appreciated." Of course she wanted to meet the ones responsible for her sons well being. Merlin. As for questions, "I do actually... how long are you open for? and do you have a pick-up/drop-off service?" She didn't have a PA see, so getting him from school, to here, might pose issues for her.

Smiling at the young boy some more, Anthony quirked an eyebrow up at Miss Brown. It always amused him when his colleagues called him by name. He couldn't rightfully pinpoint the 'why'...but the amusement was there, anyway. "We've recently answered a call from up at the school...and the Healers, alone, handled that startlingly well." He didn't cringe outwardly, of course...but the memories would never fade from that experience. "...and Athena has been a childcare provider long before coming to work for me. So, Mr. Zeke here is in good hands."
Tapping his finger at the corner of his mouth, he observed her as she wrote. It had always been interesting to him to watch people write..."Our purpose is to serve the Ministry workers during their work hours...and that includes those at might work late."...Nodding, he carried on. "Upon signing that form, a powerful little piece of magic will be activated. This will ensure that you and only you may remove your child from this facility. If there are any others that might pick up Zeke, they will have to be written on that form, so the magic will include them."
Pausing for a moment, Anthony turned from mother and child, whipping out his wand (with a slight flourish, at that). Speaking the patronus incantation, a rather large, silvery-white peacock burst forth from it's tip and pranced out of the room. Athena would be with them shortly.
"It was a right annoyance resetting up those wards...but it, of course, was the only way I was going to feel comfortable moving the Daycare here." He knew how it looked.

It was one thing to be in the next room looking over things, alone at that, it was something completely different when a giant peacock!patronus was prancing into the room making you fall over from its sight. She only fell over given the fact of it being a hunted building without a dount and all she saw at first was this huge white WHISP thing before her eyes focused and saw a patronus with a message.
Pulling herself together the blonde took a breath and shook the freaked out feeling out of her before bringing her A gamesmile to her face and walking into the next room where she found Anthony, as she expected along with a woman and a young boy.
Children! Finally she can actually make herself useful. It was a plus that the boy was older and she was able to properly communicate with him, unlike babies or some toddlers. "oh, hello!" she said brightly with a wave to them all as she made her way across the room. "im Athena Smith." introductions yes, to the woman and child in the room, Anthony already knew who she was.

If she hadn't had to fill out a million forms for his adoption in the first place, then she would have struggled with this, occasionally sparing the boy a glance. Yeah, she remembered details. Although ... "Got any allergies?" she asked, tickling him behind the ear with the quill.
Swatting at his ear, Zeke turned his attention to Emily a considerate expression softening his features. "Uuuhhhhhhhhhh......." he shrugged. He didn't know. Nothing had tried killing him just yet, but he coudln't be sure.
Emily took that to mean, no. Excellent. Anthony's reassurances were appreciated, though not necessary, she was more concerned about the trouble Zeke would get himself in, not so much their ability to handle its aftermath. At any rate, she secretly wished them luck. On the odd chance he behaved himself, he'd talk their ears off, likely drive them mad with all his questions... at least it was the right place, if not the right time.
He had been listening to the adult talk, he had, and he wasn't impressed. "Actually, it's Mr. Rogers, not Mr. Zeke... Zeke, or Ezekial is my Christian name." Duuuuuuhhhhh. Did the man not know these things? Should he teach him? He could, he knew things.. he could even teach him mapping and reading stars and compasses and things. Or sword fighting with sticks, he was ace at that too. Though Emily was finally teaching him how to adapt those skills to the use of wands. Pity he had to wait to get one.
Emily had continued reading and writing and signing pages, pausing only to flick him behind the ear at his rude comment. He wasn't wrong, but he could have opted to let it go. She pursed her lips a moment, considering what Anthony had said about arrangements and signing. Merlin. "So I'm signing my life away..." again... for what felt like the hundredth time this month. She signed, of course, but didn't add any other names. There was nobody else to add, and she could hardly expect Gavin to pick up her slack.
"WHOOOOAAAA!" Zeke jumped at the sight of the peacock!magic!thing! He'd seen Emily's weird dog thing, but this was preeettyyy er, neat. "Can you do that again?" he asked, scooting a little closer to Anthony, content with Emily leaving him here if he could see more magic. "Can I do that? Can I borrow your wand? Teach me?" ...
Emily did well to hide her amusement, yep, she was leaving him here a while. He could burn off that inquisitive energy of his, she'd collect him in time for food and bed.

Going over the papers one last time, in case she'd missed something, Emily placed the quill down on the desk and soon slid the forms in Anthony's direction. "They look to be in order," she stated in time to see the blonde woman approach. Cheerful, bright, feminine... yeah, it was a good thing Zeke was staying here and not her. "Pleased to make your acquaintance," she greeted extending her hand to shake -- it was force of habit. "Emily Browne, and this is my... son... Zeke." Son? Son?... that would take a lot of getting used to.
"Hi!" he chimed in, eyes on the lady. "Can you do magic? Do you have a peacock too?" and more to the point, could she let him do magic?

Oh, there was a hand, Athena reached out and shook the woman's hand, " Nice to meet you Mrs. Brown and Zeke." she said looking down at the boy, offering her hand to him as well, he was a cute kid, and older, she liked the older kids cause they knew how to listen which was great on her end, and it was just him so far so as of now he was pretty much in charge!
not that she'd tell him that though. "of course i can do magic."
she said smiling brightly though no she didnt have a peacock. " i dont have a peacock, i do however have a shiny fox that maybe ill let you see later, sound good?" no harm in showing off her patronus, yeah? though if more kids showed up she probably couldnt do that. "How old are you Zeke?"
how old how old, she was guessing seven, eight maybe. this was fun..

Anthony listened to the banter between the two and grinned. It was nice to see that sort of relationship; the parent/child one. Though, it didn't make him long for something similar, as it never did when seeing these things. Perhaps he was just one of those people that wouldn't have children.
...and then Zeke was teaching him about his name...in an unnecessary sassy fashion, yes, but he wasn't a stranger to 'tude. 95 percent of the SA employees oozed the non-existent substance...and then there was Ferris Karten; the other 5 percent. Anthony never minded it...since he enjoyed sass in all it's varying degrees. "I apologize for getting it wrong, Zeke...but it is a very nice name." He paused to glance at Miss Browne.
Also, Zeke's reaction to the patronus was both comical and gratifying. Even if his questions that followed were a bit off the wall. "Patronuses are easy...when you're older and have had practice." Nod. "...and you'll get your own wand in just a couple of years."...meaning no, Anthony was not about to hand his wand over. Surely Miss Browne, nor Athena, would have appreciated that.

"im Athena Smith." introductions yes, to the woman and child in the room, Anthony already knew who she was.

not that she'd tell him that though.
"How old are you Zeke?"
how old how old, she was guessing seven, eight maybe. this was fun..
if only the other voices stopped singing.
With Athena's arrival, Anthony moved back, pulling and skimming the documentation. This was also good because it gave the two a chance to talk before Miss Browne headed off to work. To put her mind at ease...or to be reassured that they could handle her son. Hopefully. He was a wide-eyed child. Very curious. Very much a boy.
Everything did, in fact, look in order, though. All the spaces signed; "I"s dotted and "T"s crossed. Lifting his wand, Anthony performed a quick duplication spell, planning to take the copy to his office to be filed. "Well, ladies. I'm off. Miss Browne, you have a fantastic day at work...Athena, I'll see you in a bit." With a final smile, he pushed away from the desk and headed out the door, stopping to offer a wave to Zeke.
Now...he had an owl to send.

She was hiding...but she could see them. There was a pretty woman with a small boy, a man, and then another pretty woman. The second woman's voice sounded like the one from that closed door...when she'd been eavesdropping, if it could be called that. This was her home.
She could hear them, too.
The small boy was staying! He'd be here...but she couldn't show herself just yet. His mommy would be very upset, probably, if she came out to say 'hello' right now. Adults didn't like her much. They acted scared of her.

...and then Zeke was teaching him about his name...in an unnecessary sassy fashion, yes, but he wasn't a stranger to 'tude.

Emily refrained from snarky comments and death stares, but she was not at all pleased by this. She was not a Mrs. and had no intention of being one in the foreseeable future. Retracting her hand from the shake, Emily offered her a tight-lipped smile -- just a quick flash, before correcting her. "Ms... actually." Not married.
Zeke nodded his head, agreeing with Anthony. "It is a nice name, but I'd have to put up with it even if I didn't like it." He was kinda stuck with it, unless he could change it. Which he could. People did that sort of thing.
Paaatrrrooonussss... those things, yes. They were cool. Super cool. Anthony hadn't answered his first question, and wasn't showing him again, so that was a defeat. On top of that, the man was going on about being older and having a wand... pffffffttt. Why wait? If he started learning now, then he could do it sooner. He shrugged, deciding the man was no fun. Maybe he'd have better luck with the lady person.
He took her hand and gave it a thorough shake, up and down, up and down... yep. She was already proving to be more useful, "Aawwweeesoommeee, you have to show me! HAVE to!" Foxes weren't as fancy as peacocks but they were a little bit cooler, maybe, he wasn't sure just yet. "I'm nine," he added, eyes on her, and the room and the wands in the room. He wanted one, now. He was even convinced that if he learnt how to cast a patt-patronus thingy that Emily would be proud of him, being resourceful and things.
Zeke turned as Anthony said he was going. Zeke was not a lady, did he not get a proper goodbye? Or would he see him again? Could he explore his office? Offices had cool things sometimes. He waved, regardless, to be polite - because he was that.
"Of course, likewise, and thank you for your assistance," she replied at Anthony's farewell. She couldn't say she liked the Miss, but at least he wasn't marrying her off... Miss, she could live with. Now. Did she need to stay? Or could she get back to running her own department? "Was that all?" she asked, prompting Athena along.

Didn't the Government have regulations on the number of days students were meant to be in school? He couldn't fathom the girls having an extra week of holiday. Surely this would mean a later summer, something he couldn't imagine anyone appreciating. Not that they paid much attention to such things. From what he'd gathered they took holidays in strides; celebrated when they got them and whined about waiting for them during terms.
This wouldn't necessarily have been a problem if not for the....relocation of the Ministry Departments. The Daycare was a considerable distance from the condemned building and while he didn't necessarily want his nieces that far away, a decrepit building that threatened to collapse even if you looked at it too hard, was no place for children.
Whoa....
The 9 year old took in everything with avid curiosity. This wasn't the place her uncle worked, they didn't even go the same way. She noticed. This place was...new....and interesting and she bet Avery wouldn't like it but it didn't bother her; not the dark corners, not the old rooms they passed and not the fact that her uncle said this place used to be for mad people. Did they still have them? Could she talk to them? This place was WAY cooler than that baby place she had to stay in before with all those bright colours and children.
She didn't want to play with them and they wouldn't let her play with the toys. Ashley took in the white room. It really WAS a nut house! "Uncle Gavin." She whispered loudly, tugging at the hand she was holding. "Do you think we can play with the patients?"
She was NOT staying. Non! Non! Non! Non! This place wasn't for her. Clearly her uncle was dropping off Ashley then they could go to his nice office. She'd seen it before allllll the way at the top floor of the pretty building. Ashley said mad people lived in A-syyy-lums, she wasn't mad! And mad people hurt children! And and and just non!
The 7 year old clung tightly to her uncle's other hand, hoping he would get the hint. She didn't care that she didn't see any mad people on the way to the kid room. They were probably hiding. Avery let out a little squeak at Ashley's question. She didn't want to play with them.
Gavin glanced down at the tugging. He'd already expected Ashley to have questions after telling her about this place. Didn't he mention this place hadn't been used in Merlin knew how long? Poor thing, she'd be disappointed. "Eh...no. There aren't any." Ignoring, he was ignoring Avery's clinging. "Bet you'll still find something to do." Whether that was fortunate or not, he didn't know.

"Oh, Im So sorry Ms. Brown, so sorry." well that was embarrassing. Athena felt her face red slightly from the embarrassment, she shouldn't of assumed but she did, that was a bad idea, she assumed with the son and err, yeah, this sorry. but yes, they were done paperwork was all good adn child was here, everything was all set and good, "that is all Ms. Brown, well be here till you come pick him up." all day and into most of the night! except she didnt like being here most of the night so the sooner the better, you know. Giving a final look over the paper work she gave the woman a nod all good.
He was a good hand shaker, she gave little nine year old Zeke another bright smile "that's some grip you have there." he was cute, she liked this one, he could stay. "ill show you a little later once we go over some stuff and see if any other kids arrive, ok?" was that a good compromise, she thought so, plus they had protocols to go over and such. she wanted to get all the boring stuff out of the way with the older kids quickly so they could play and have fun, yup.

Familiar Facesss!! Athena smiled just as Ms brow left and Mr. Isaacs walked in "Hello, Good Morning Mr. Isaacs, how are you today?" she said looking down at both the girls which she remembered well from a few months back. " and you ladies? how you you two today?" she said looking back to see where Mr Zeke was, and hopefully no other... visitors were there... at the moment. " mr Isaacs i just need you to sign the girls in seeing as how i have updated paperwork on the two of them" cause they were there within the past year and all "unless there's anything you think needs changed on them." anything?

Sorry. Yeah, Emily was sure she was. Nevertheless, she had bigger fish to fry than people referring to her by incorrect titles. So after the brief stare, Emily nod her head in acknowledgement that everything was in order. "Excellent, I'll be seeing you later..." unfortunately. Was she perhaps too quick to judge people? Maybe, but it wasn't any skin off her nose, so she'd sleep well tonight with her conscience unscathed.
"You... behave," she instructed, placing her hands on Zeke's shoulders and whispering it softly in his ear. He would be fine, surely. What trouble could he really get into in an asylum? "I'll try to be quick," she added, giving his hair another ruffle before she turned to go.
Zeke was in two minds about this now. On the one hand, the lady was nice, on the other she wasn't performing magic anymore. And then there was Emily and she was leaving already. "Okkaaaayyy," he replied, exasperatedly. He would behave, but if things happened then they happened, he couldn't control fate. Fate just happened. Yep. "Can we go for ice cream later?" he asked before she left, just in case these people didn't give him any.
Emily turned to give him a look, she was smiling, so that was as much of a yes as he could expect at this time of the morning.
Victory!
Zeke didn't even bother watching her leave completely, already set on an expedition to explore every nook and cranny the place had to offer. But on closer inspection, there wasn't much to see, not here at least. Maybe one of the other rooms would be more exciting, with secret tunnels and creatures and ghouls and things. He'd read about them. They were cool. Hearing voices back in the reception area, Zeke turned to go back, he was sure the Smiiittthhh lady wouldn't like it if he went wandering by himself, it was a shame she couldn't keep up.
"Gavin!"
Emily's Gavin was here! "Emily just left, she went to work... without me." He needed to know these things, because he wasn't happy and Gavin had that ability to tell Emily things that nobody else would. He could make her change her mind, no?

How was he? "Busy." He said with a small but polite nod. Extremely busy of late with all the changes in the Ministry. Ones that weren't by any means meant to be permanent. Gavin was able to give a relieved sigh. No extra paperwork. This lockout hadn't affected their records and he wouldn't be forced to stay for too long a time. The worry couldn't be helped. He felt that at any minute one of his employees would lean against the wrong wall and the whole place would come crumbling down.
"Just show me to the sheet and I'll have it signed up for you." That was to say there was nothing new about the girls. Nothing he was aware of anyway. "And all the necessary checks have been done on this building, yes?" He asked, taking a quick glance around the room. It looked safe enough but he had to check. These were his nieces afterall.
Make no mistake, she was about to start sulking. There were no patients here. No one to experiment on that wouldn't be missed by the state. Boo. Ashley made a face and gave a scornful look to the white room before fixing her gaze on Ms. Smith, the lady that was in charge of them last time. Deciding she didn't want a flick to her ear she fixed her best smile. "Hello. I'm fine. Very excited to be in the nuthouse." GRIN.
Her uncle said she'd find fun and she intended to, one way or another.
No patients? Thank goodness! Avery didn't care how disappointed her sister was, she was fine enough with their being no mad people walking around. Her grip didn't loosen on her Uncle's hand because she still didn't plan to stay but now she felt better. Ashley would be kinda safe now. "I'm fine thanks." No eye contact. Eye contact meant she was staying and she was NOT.

If he didn't know any better he'd have guessed that Avery had tightend her grip but in fact she hadn't, it was simply Ashley loosening her own. Despite her intentions, she'd managed a smile and that was good enough for him. The man was about to head off with Ms. Smith to get the girl's signed in when he heard his name....being called by someone that was meant to be in school or had the girls' school not been the only one's to slack off.
"Zeke." A wider smile than he'd given to Ms. Smith, much wider. "Did she? Just now?" And he'd missed her? Pity. He'd have to catch her at lunch. "Looks like you're in the same boat as the girls." Probably not what he wanted to hear but nothing to be done about that.
Hmm? What?
Ashley twisted, still not letting go of her uncle. Why did that sound like Zeke? He was meant to be at school. They started. Didn't he and Emily know? And how come only her uncle got a greeting? Wasn't she standing there anymore? Maybe it was the madhouse. It was already affecting him. There was something to this place afterall!
"Does this place look promising?" Anything to report? People hanging off walls? GHOSTS???
"Zeeeeeeeke!!!"
Avery did a little bounce in place when she saw him enter the room. Where was he coming from? They shouldn't be leaving the lady's view just in case. Bad things happened you know? "You got dropped here too? I can probably give Emily a message for you. I think me and Uncle Gavin are having lunch with her later." LOUDLY declaring she wasn't staying. Sometimes it took her uncle a while to understand things and the clinging didn't seem to be working.

"She diiiiiiid! Just nowwwww!"... couldn't Gavin see how dire the situation was? Why was he so happy looking, huh? Zeke wasn't oblivious to the girls, but it was no secret he preferred adult company, so naturally he opted to focus his attention on Gavin. He was tall, and a wizard. Not to mention Ashley could be scary sometimes. She did make for a good partner in crime though, where adventures were concerned so he was happy enough to have her around for now. Avery was nicer, he liked her, she got a wave and a little hip-bump as he scooted closer to the group, naturally gravitating to Avery's side.
Boat. Gavin said boat... but he couldn't be more wrong. This was nothing like them being in the same boat, THAT would have been far more exciting.
Zeke shrugged, turning to Ashley. "I heard noises back there," he said, pointing. "I was hoping there would be loonies, but I didn't see any." It was a sad sad day when you were trapped in a loony bin without loonies to laugh with. "I think we should explore, there were doors down there.... that I haven't opened yet." Yet being the operative word in that sentence, mmhhmm.
He found his head spinning a look of shock, horror and disappointment etched on his face at Avery's remark. They were going to lunch? Without him?! "Nuhh uuhh!" he boasted, puffing out his chest a little. If Avery could go have lunch, then so could he. "I'm going tooo you knowww," he invited himself, the plans as solid as if they were carved in stone. "Can we? Can we? Can we?" he asked Gavin. He was a grown up, he could get him out of here aaannnnndddd better yet, he could take them to Emily. Speaking of... he needed to get back at her for leaving him here in the boring room in the first place... with the boring people that stopped showing him magic. "... also Emily said we're going to the magizoo later, we should go," he said softly to Avery and Ashley as an afterthought - strategically planting the seed in their minds so that when Emily found out the plans would already be made. She'd have no choice but to go along with it, she wouldn't be able to say no this time.

There was something in his voice that had Gavin thinking there was more to his statement than the simple fact that Emily had gone only just now. Unfortunately for him, the Senior Undersecretary wasn't trying to see anything because he knew where it would lead. Three children begging him to take them with him. Abandoned underground tunnels and buildings that were coming apart at the hinges were the last places anyone would think to take children.
He raised an eyebrow at Avery and her declaration of being invited to his lunch with Emily. That was definitely not decided on.
Ashley was going to pretend he didn't just go stand next to Avery. In her book it never happened and she could focus instead on his pointing. "Noises? Like the kind you hear in madhouses, or just that boring stuff like leaky taps?" Those didn't count. They could be kinda scary but not really and not that much. The idea of the doors did intrigue her though and she was now making plans to yank them all open.
The 9 year old wasn't even going to pay attention to her sister that was lying. Uncle Gavin didn't say they could go with him. Wasn't she listening earlier? Just look how she had Zeke riled up. He better not start acting like some excited little kid. Not like Avery or she would go exploring alone. "She's fibbing." Ashley said, after watching him go into loud protest. Shhhhhhhh! You'll scare the ghosts. Shut up. "Wait, the magizoo?" That caught her attention and for his sake he'd better hope he wasn't lying too.
N-Noises? See? She couldn't stay. There were noises. Avery was going with her uncle and they would have lunch together and she would get cake after and these two could be left here forever and she'd get all the ice-cream ever without them. The girl grinned wide when Zeke made his way to her side, returning the bump. Pity he wouldn't be coming with her, but he wanted to stay here and explore.
"Yuh-huuuuuuuh." She insisted at his protest. It was TRUE! She was going to lu--"You're coming too?" Yaaaaay! Was Ashley the only one staying then? Avery made a face at her sister for saying she was fibbing. It was NOT fibbing because she was going to pout and cry and whine until her uncle got her out of there. "Yeah, can we Uncle Gavin? Pleeeeease? We won't be any trouble! Honest!"
AND THEY WERE GOING TO THE ZOOOOOOOOO!!! "I wanna go! I do! I do!" Why were they whiiiispering? Was it a secret?? ZOO!
Not one, but TWO of them were hooked on the idea of lunch. It didn't change the answer. "No." Nooooo. Taking them would mean having to come back here after the lunch break before heading back to work. It was hardly efficient. "No one's going to lunch with anyone." Not today at least. "Tell you what. You all behave and tomorrow we'll take you all wherever you want for lunch. Sound good?" Because the selfish Senior Undersecretary was not planning to share Emily today. Obviously.
Gavin never trusted whispering children but he was prepared to let it slide...until Avery's outburst. "Go where?"

Gavin never trusted whispering children but he was prepared to let it slide...until Avery's outburst. "Go where?"
Zeke shrugged his shoulders, hazel eyes on Ashley. She asked good questions, but he couldn't answer them. "I dunno." He wasn't even sure how to go about explaining the noises, it wasn't as if he knew what madhouses sounded like to begin with, but it wasn't a tap. "I think it's worth investigating," he nodded with perfect seriousness in his tone.
He knew that Avery had the tendency to make stuff up with hopeful intentions, and he was all for that, so when Ashley declared she was fibbing, he was rather quick to dismiss it. He needed hope. Did she not see this room? It was booorrriinnggg, if they made enough noise they'd have to let them go for lunch. It's the way things worked.
"Yeeeeaaaaahhh! Have you been?" He hadn't. Clearly, so he was willing to pull out all the stops to get her to take him. All this talk of being busy and work and blah blah blah, he didn't want to hear it. Another time meant not another time. Tomorrow, this weekend or any date in the near future meant it was a sure thing and THAT was what he was hoping for.
Avery's enthusiasm was hard to miss, but she didn't seem all that confident in the prospect of lunching with Gavin and Emily if she had to ask as well. She was fibbing. This idea was soon put to rest with that resounding no. Poooooop! But with the promise of tomorrow being another day, and if they behaved.. yeah, that might work. Though it depended on the mans definition of behave. "Deal," he accepted holding up and wiggling is pinky finger for good measure. A deal wasn't a deal unless it was pinky!shook on.
His eyes widened a little bit in an effort to communicate to Avery that she should keep her voice down... he had a plaaaaaannn, but it was for him to know and Gavin not to find out. Unless.... maybe....
....
"Emily said we could all go to the zoo, we can, yes?" Putting words in his mouth he was, the yes, Gavin was supposed to nod and agree with that, it was almost like subliminal messaging, only not subliminal at all. Please say yes. It was possible that Emily would ground him for this, conspiring against her and all, but he meant it well. He was positive that she'd like the zoo tooooo.
the sign in sheet was right here a moment ago she swore it. The blonde began looking around her desk area and it took her several minutes to find it, in a drawer where it shouldn't of been. Taking it out she grin at Gavin and handed him the magical parchment and quill so he can sign them in "Just your name, their's, your department, where it's located, and the fast way to reach you at said location." seeing as how some were around muggles they couldnt just apperate or send patronus messages across town now could they. "And yes, all procedures have been checked in met throughout the entire building several times over." the voices weren't a big deal you know. they we're cool, you got use to them.
She then turned to the THREE children, all older that were now in her care. "You guys can go back there." she said pointing behind the desk area, "and talk and wait for me, ill be there in just a moment." she said to them so she could finish this work here with Gavin

'I dunno'? That was it? Didn't he know how to tell sounds apart? Her patience was slipping more and more. Him not knowing meant she had to find out herself. She was going to and the woman wasn't going to make her not. Ashley didn't care where the children were meant to stay, she wasn't a child and could do what she wanted. "Alright, we'll slip away and have a look. If it comes to it we're leaving Avery here as a distraction." The last part she'd leaned a bit closer and whispered to him. Her sister was a whiner, she didn't need to know she might not be coming if the woman had hawk eyes.
What kind of question was that? Of course she'd been to the magizoo before, everyone's been to the magizoo at least once before except Muggles, her uncle said they weren't allowed.
"I have," She confirmed with a solemn like nod in all seriousness like something to be taken for it's high importance. "They don't have all that many super dangerous ones but it's still cool." Ashley nearly snorted at his outstretched pinky. That would get him nowhere.
It was RUDE to whisper when she couldn't hear! They were talking about noises and she didn't want to hear that part but they were discussing other stuff that might have been interesting to her and she couldn't HEEEEAAAARR. Avery tugged on her uncle's hand ready to start whining again when she caught something about dangerous and more talk of the zoo. You know, it would have been nice to include her in the conversation. Hmph.
The only thing she got including in was promise making. They could go tomorrow but she wanted to go todaaaaaaay. What if it rained tomorrow and Uncle Gavin insisted she'd get sick?? Granted she WOULD get sick but it wouldn't be fair. Her mouth hung in shock when Zeke agreed. Didn't he know how to stick to his guns? This wasn't about letting her uncle win! Especially not with a pinky promise! Those were full of liiiiieeeesss.
Avery shot her uncle one of her most pathetic looks. "Why not today?"
It really was none of his business what they were whispering on about. The place looked safe and he had full confidence that the staff here wouldn't allow anything horrible to happen. The most he could see happening would be them wandering off for a few hours. Gavin glanced down at Avery when the hand tugging began but the whining he'd expected didn't come. That was new.
The pinky though...
....Gavin raised an eyebrow at the little boy. Emily had her work cut out for her if he thought a pinky was enough to bind someone to their word. "What's to stop me from breaking my promise if all I did was link pinkies with you?" He challenged, wanting the boy to think more critically. Not even his nieces believed in pinky promises.
As for the zoo, he just shrugged. "If Emily already said you could and it's not a day I'm busy then I don't see why we couldn't tag along. Did she say when?"

Gavin exercised his patience waiting for her to find the documents he would need to sign. It was good he wouldn't have to be doing over all that paper work, truly, he had enough waiting for him back at his desk. "Thank you." He said plucking the parchment and quill from her hands once they were found and offered. It didn't take him long to scribble everything down then handed them back to her. "Here you go."
He listened to her assurance that the place was safe. Good. "Excellent. Is there anything else I should be aware of or is that it?" He did need to have a talk with Mr. Cresswell but he wasn't sure that time would allow for that today.
What? Go where?
Ashley looked in the direction of the woman's pointing. That wasn't very close to the door they were planning to sneak through. She would stand here thanks.
Go stand over therrreeeee? But then her uncle would LEAVE and without her too!! That wasn't what she was trying to accomplish incase no one was getting the moment. Avery tightened her grip on her uncle again. This was not happening.

Go stand over therrreeeee? But then her uncle would LEAVE and without her too!! That wasn't what she was trying to accomplish incase no one was getting the moment. Avery tightened her grip on her uncle again. This was not happening.
He didn't need any encouragement from her, he had already decided that exploring would be happening, with or without her.. but he figured it would be more fun with her. Mmhhmm. His nod was all the agreement Ashley needed, because pffffttttt... he wasn't going to stand here and do nothing. He was going to see magic, or he was going to see other things that were out of the way and super secret and stuff. He spared Avery a quick glance. She did make for a good distraction, but Zeke rather liked her. She made for a good look out too... he was sure of this. "We'll see," he replied, a hand instinctively diving into his pocket so that his fingers could curl around his compass.
And THAT, that, was soooooo unfair. Ashley had been already! And he hadn't! That alone was reason enough for Emily to take him. He was missing out! He just stared at her, blinking occasionally. No fair.
Personally, he thought the plans were coming together rather nicely. They could explore today, lunch tomorrow, zoo on the weekend because an hour or two after Emily finished work would not be enough time -- clearly. So when Avery continued to whine about them having lunch today, he lost interest. The lack of pinky shaking though, now that was ruuuuude. Where were Gavin's manners? Did he not know how this worked? In terms of breaking pinky promises, he had faith that Gavin wouldn't and after a pensive stare at the tall man, he pretty much said so. "Weeeeelllll," he started, ready to launch into explanation, the man needed educating. "See, it's like a hand shake, only I don't do hand shakes... so pinky swears work fine. And I know it's not an unbreakable vow or anything," cause Emily had told him about those and made him pinky swear to her that he would never enter into one unless she was the one enforcing it. Double standards, she had them, "... but it's a sign of good faith which is important in relationships and stuff." He was pulling out all the stops here, fancy terminology and everyyyytthing. "And if you break my faith and therefore make me upset, Emily will find out, and then she'll be upset that you upset me and she'll break something else..." did he get the picture? It wasn't a threat, it was just the way things were. Emily liked quiet, especially when she had files to read. So if he spent that time whinging and whining about Gavin breaking pinky swears, then she'd fix things, wouldn't she? The theory worked for him, he would go with this.
His pinky was still patiently suspended midair, waiting for Gavin to take it. He needed assurances.
Gavin's response for the zoo thing wasn't what he wanted either, shame. Now he had to be careful how to spin this so he wouldn't get caught out blatantly lying, because he didn't do that. Technically, she hadn't said he couldn't, she'd simply said she wouldn't take him... so this worked to his advantage. "The weekend," he nodded, leaving it there and not specifying which day that weekend. Those were boring details, and this way, the likelihood of him being free was greater because there were choices.

But but but... that didn't look fun. He didn't much mind the talking and being with the little ladies thing, that he could handle, but staying here, or going behind the desk thing. No.
He nodded to the lady, and started skirting around her... only, in the other direction. She was still busy yes? Wouldn't see, right? Not that there was much to see, it was only a step, or two, or three. He made eyes at Ashley.

Yes, they would see because they'd be watching the lady carefully just as she was sure the woman would be watching them. It was all about looking for the most opportune moment and if none arrived Avery would have to come in.
Er....
What was he on about? Ashley blinked trying to see what Zeke was trying to get out of everything he was spewing to her uncle. Was it pity? Did he want to make him feel bad? There was talk about Emily so she would assume as much but....The girl shook her head. He was waaaaaay out of his league with this one.
Avery still didn't know what they were talking about but they'd dropped it by and she didn't think asking would give her answers so instead she watched Zeke. It was kinda funny how he kept rattling off like that. Her uncle wasn't listening and if he was he wasn't proper going to take him serious. It's why she didn't use words anymore. Not really anyway. She shot Ashley a look, trying to to snicker and ruin her half pout she was trying to use on her uncle. It was giggle worthy though and she wouldn't tell him otherwise.
Yeah she saw the look her sister shot her and bit her lip so she wouldn't burst into giggles. Zeke needed to learn.
The 'well' was enough to tell him that the boy wasn't about to drop this. Gavin spared a glance at the clock across the room. He wasn't so crunched for time that he'd simply walk away. Hearing him out would be easy enough. The logic of a child had the tendency to amuse him on the odd occasion.
It was to be noted that the boy didn't do handshakes, they could get along just fine--good faith. Gavin raised an eyebrow at him. It sounded oddly like a form of guilt manipulation. Something along the lines of 'pinky swear with me or I'll be scarred for life and you'll be to blame then I'll hate you forever'. It didn't leave the man impressed, rather, he refused to believe that was all he could come up with. Good faith? The man was once a Slytherin, the only faith he needed existing was the one in himself.
His earlier look of disbelief melted and was replaced with one of amusement, his lips twitching into a half smirk. Clever boy mentioning Emily, it would have worked...on someone else. "Yes, I do think she'd be upset, terribly upset but then what?" She'd be upset he wouldn't pinky promise a little boy then........break up with? Stop talking to him forever? Never go back to France with him? "The world doesn't work quite the way you think it does. I assure you, she'd get over it," Gavin looked to Ms. Smith before sparing him another glance and a matter of fact look. "and so would you."
He sighed at the still outstretched pinky then lowered it slowly. "If you can't trust my words then you definitely can't trust my pinky."
The weekend? This weekend. He gave it some thought, mentally going over his schedule. Weekends weren't as empty as they should have been and the girls had other committments. "If you can convince Ashley to miss football and Avery to miss ballet then I don't see why not. Barring that it'd have to wait until sometime in the late afternoon." Did anyone go to the zoo at that late hour? It seemed almost pointless given the zoo was something near an all day event.
SPOILER!!: Sneaky kid

But but but... that didn't look fun. He didn't much mind the talking and being with the little ladies thing, that he could handle, but staying here, or going behind the desk thing. No.
He nodded to the lady, and started skirting around her... only, in the other direction. She was still busy yes? Wouldn't see, right? Not that there was much to see, it was only a step, or two, or three. He made eyes at Ashley.
Ashley was watching, always watching and saw the look Zeke gave her. That's all they'd been doing, passing looks. Ashley eyed the woman grinning at her uncle. Right. Mhm. She made for the desk behind her but once she was as far as Zeke she began taking small steps too.
Next stop, who knows, they had the whole building to explore. She shot her sister expectant looks. Come on Avery. As much as she pretended she didn't want her coming, she did. Not that she'd ever admit it if asked.
She wasn't going, nope nope nope. Was the word 'non' not registering to anyone? It sounded just the same in English. There should have been no misunderstandings so the girl would be standing right here.
Her eyes widened a bit at the looks--she got looks! She never got looks! She could go with them!!!--where the noises were. Nope. Nope she was standing right here, merci.

She had been waiting patiently for the mommy to leave...but before she could, there were more people coming into the room. Her eyes widened as she seen others to play with...Were they going to stay? Oh, she tried so hard not to get her hopes up too much! That was going to be THREE people to show around her home and siiiiiing to...
Peeking around the corner again, she seen her new friends talking...Did they want to stay? Were they thinking about leaving? No...Virginia needed to make them see how fun it was here......and what was a majigoo?
She'd need to get their attention...
It was sad she had to hide. The people that were in her home now were different from the others. They had sticks that did funny things and talked about mujjles. How were people scared of her when they were so strange? Trying not to let that make her too sad, she peered down at her feet.
Catching sight of her hand, her best dolly, Anna, was hanging there, loosely. Maybe if she used Anna to get their attention, they would come away from their mommy and daddy...She moved her dolly out from behind the wall just far enough for them to maybe see her. Did they see Anna?
Could she sing right now? The mommy and daddy might not like that...
