The long staff table stretches across the front of the Great Hall, waiting for its esteemed occupants. There will be some new faces, but plenty of familiar ones to greet you as well.
Feel free to drop by to greet a professor (or six) AFTER the Headmaster's speech. Though don't linger here too long. Professors have to eat too, you know.

Hirsch had just managed to sit down and appreciate the scent in the air when a very familiar voice broke through his thoughts. Eyes turned towards Rafael, who also got a playful smirk from the man. "Luckily. They say you should be fashionably late but arriving with the first years would be pushing it." Just saying.
If he wasn't mistaken, the Defence Professor would've believed that the sound reaching his ears was sass. Good, well-timed sass. If there was one thing he could appreciate, it was that. "I meant to finally kick start the year but it's nice to know that you're ready for a feast as well." He made a mental note to introduce Viktor to Dante Barrington and let him watch the scene unfold.
Was it just him or was Kaysha looking a little, heh, blue today? "Hello, Kaysha. Nice outfit choice you've gone for today." Just saying. "You're not planning on taking over my job, are you?" While he tried to say that as seriously as possible, there was an amused smirk on his face to show that he was about as serious about this as he was about yoga.
Meaning, not very.
He looked nice? Eyes turned towards one of the newcomers, a Rosalyn and he gave her a small, dimpled smile. "Thank you. I could say the same thing about you." It was polite, see. "Are you looking forward to teaching some History of Magic?" Pity it was such a boring topic and one that didn't sit well with the Defence Professor. Sorry, Newton, but bangs and fights were in his interests.
There were more compliments thrown about his suit, which made the man miss Airey Flamsteed, just a bit. He would've had something to say too, no doubt. As it was, Hirsch found himself smiling at Jordan sitting on Gaston's other side and then- SNORT! What was it with this staff and being sassy? He loved it! "I couldn't risk looking like one of the students. As much as I love teaching them, I don't want to be one of them." He was more than happy to leave his teenage years behind, thank you.
A wave was returned to Paul and a smile to both Cynthia and Joy but before he could say anything, someone else had gotten his attention.
Justin McLeod.
It was weird to think that the man had once been Hirsch's professor. They were a lot more in the colleagues zone now that that seemed like a very distant memory. Nevertheless, he raised an eyebrow at the Groundskeeper before saying, "Now now, Justin, you don't want to go around making anyone jealous."
Regular year at Hogwarts? Some level of chaos to be expected? Hirsch shouldn't find this as amusing as he did. Really. "Well, I'm glad you've come prepared, at least. The only thing I can guarantee is that it'll be entertaining." If his previous two school years here were anything to go by. "You've already been welcomed properly, I see," he said, nodding at the gift.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
The response ‘You have big shoes to fill’ popped into Kay’s head but she was far too nice to put added pressure on Rosie. The other woman was surely feeling that way already if she was unsure that the students would enjoy her lessons. Instead, she nodded. “I understand. Just be yourself and they’ll love you and the lessons.’’ Kay smiled encouragingly and then nodded. “I put the last of my lesson’s plan this morning, actually. I can always help you if you like.’’
An invitation to have coffee with Jordan? Kay would love that! They could catch up on the years after Hogwarts and maybe even relive those seven years. She also wanted to find out what had motivated Jordan to go through this extremely noticeable change. “I’ll take you up on that offer, Jordan, only if you offer me fruit juice. I’ve stayed away from coffee for years now. If I remember right, you were quite in love with it. I take it that you still are?’’
Kay liked this librarian already. “Really?’’ Cynthia’s statement made Kay beam. First Leo and now Cynthia… they were going to spoil her with books. “I have none in mind at the moment but you can be sure that I’ll let you know as soon as I do. What do you think of Hogwarts’s library? Didn’t Leo keep it very up to date?’’
Okay, she couldn’t keep the laugh in any longer. The woman let out a quiet laugh. Paul was hilarious! “The bow tie does it all, Paul,’’ she agreed with a wink. She admired his get ups, did he know? “Honestly, you dress even better than I do.’’ She was a snappy dresser somewhat.
Merlin! Not again. Kay shook her head vigorously before she realised Roderick was smirking. That made her smile an easy smile. “It’s possible that I may be,’’ she teased as innocently as she could. Next to amethyst, blue was her favourite colour. “Also, thank you. You’re looking rather brilliant yourself.’’ Now she could sit back and watch his head swell.
Awww! Kay was already loving talk of little Lucy. “How old is she now, Justin?’’ This showed how little she knew. That certainly was changing now, however. “I do hope I can meet her sometime.’’
Kay was coughing furiously. Thank Merlin Laurel was sitting all the way on the other side of the table. How did she survive being bathed in an entire bottle of perfume at once? Or so it seemed to Kay… that her ex- classmate had used that much. She reached for a glass and a pitcher to pour herself some water. She drank carefully, her wits eventually returning. With watery eyes (from all the coughing), she turned to Laurel. “I’m sorry about that. Your perfume is a little too strong for me.’’ She wanted to be honest. “Yes, I did. This is my second year with this staff. I must say I did. It has motivated me to stay here. There were a few hiccups here and there but they’ve been worked out.’’
It wasn’t hard to notice that his dinner companion was well, more interested in sitting near the young Professor Newton. “That’s the best way Sokolov,” he gave the Ancient Runes professor a small nod before grinning at Kay’s friendly reception. “Oh I’m sure Roderik would only sass you about it,” he grinned, his assumption was only confirmed when Hirsch had commented on the Ravenclaw-ness of her look. “Did you enjoy it? Being a Ravenclaw and going to Hogwarts?” He asked with a small smile. He was curious really what the faculty and staff felt about teaching at their alma mater.
When Rosalyn asked about teaching lessons all Raf could do was grin. ”But of course tomorrow’s lesson will be rather simple…just the normal get to know my rules day” he chuckled, ”are you ready as well Rosalyn?” he asked grinning over to the History of Magic Professor…maybe they could converse about collaborating on some lesson plans? That would be fun.
Hernandez got a grin at the scarf comment, “Thank you Jordan, are you excited for your first set of classes?” He asked as he looked down the table toward the care of magical creatures Professor. The look that Paul was giving him and the slight chuckle just caused Rafael to chuckle himself. “Paul you seem rather happy tonight, I must admit I’m rather excited to see the sorting this year” he grinned and turned his attention back to Laurel as she spoke. ”A floral phase, it works for you…I can’t say that I’ve ever really tried perfumes myself, but if I did I would try something…subtle, maybe one that like cedar?” he shrugged his shoulder slightly and grinned at the blonde Professor ”I may have to ask your advice on them if I do try and use them” he grinned and smirked back at Hirsch when he spoke. ”Yes, I’m sure the first years would have loved the extra few minutes in your company” he grinned as he looked out at the students now milling about and finding their seats…oh look at that kid…he looked well quite frankly like he had gotten attacked on the train? Had his trunks fallen on him or something? Still, Raf watched eagerly as the kid was sorted.

Was it just him or had he seen a smirk on Paul's face when he walked in? What was that about? Was he missing something? Gaston looked at the Herbology professor again, but he was sure he must've just imagined it. Never mind then...
He gave Rafael, Kay, and Jordan polite nods in turn as they returned his greeting, but he couldn't help but notice that the Ancient Runes professor hadn't said a word to him. Had he done something wrong? Oh well, maybe he was just shy... or preoccupied. Before he had too much time to think about it, he was distracted by a cloud of strong-smelling rose perfume. He started to cough but masked it by pretending to clear his throat. His hand automatically went to his wand, but he thought casting a spell to fan the perfume away might be impolite and stopped himself just in time.
Gaston's head whipped around in the direction of the scent, causing his black hair to fall into his eyes. He scoffed. With all his experience in charms, why couldn't he invent a spell to keep his hair out of his eyes?! Pushing a lock of hair out of his face, he noticed the blonde Divination professor. "Good evening, Laurel," he greeted her with a small smile. "And good evening to you too, Joy," he said a little louder as he spotted the Healer farther down the table.
He turned his attention to the man who just sat down beside him. "Good evening, Roderik," he returned the Defense professor's greeting. He considered his question for a minute. Well, he had his office set up and all of his lessons planned, if that's what he was asking. But as for the actual interacting with the students, he wouldn't mind putting that off a bit longer. So many things that could go wrong! "Yes, I believe so," he replied. "I finished setting up my office. I have a coffee bar, by the way. You're welcome to raid it any time." He hoped that didn't sound too forward! He'd heard that Roderik liked coffee, and he just thought it would be nice to offer.
Gaston peered farther down the table as another voice caught his attention, this one belonging to Rosalyn. "Y-yes," he replied, but the word caught in his throat. He nervously ran a hand through his hair. Merlin, why did he have such a hard time talking to women - well, at least with saying anything besides just superficial greetings? "As ready as I'll ever be." He'd meant it as a joke but realized only after he said ti just how ill-prepared it made him sound. What was that, Gaston? he inwardly berated himself. Now she probably thinks you're an idiot!
He decided to keep busy fidgeting with his bracelets to avoid embarassing himself more. Every few seconds, he'd look at his watch or at the doors. The students were starting to file in now; he was careful to keep his eyes down to avoid accidentally locking eyes with any of them as he watched the sorting. He thought having the students try on a magical hat was a funny way of assigning houses, but he kept that thought to himself as he applauded politely for each student sorted.

Art and Madame Curie were just having a bit of a drink of water, when some MORE people arrived at the table. "Good evening Cynthia," Art greeted the new librarian. "H-how are you settling in?"
"Gaston, good evening. H-how are you?" Art asked the new Charms Professor. He was very happy standing here and getting to know more people. Put the man next to a brick wall and he'd probably talk its ear off. And it didn't even HAVE any ears. HA.
"Laurel, hello there, how are you this evening?" Art asked the new Divination Professor. He had quite liked Sora, of course. He had liked most of the previous group, but these things happened in life. People moved on. And people came in. Art was happy to meet everyone. He wasn't one to compliment clothing, but this one needed a compliment. "V-very di-diplomatic dress there," he said with a chuckle. "A colour for ev-every house. Wonderful!"
Art was quite excited to meet, and converse, with the new healer, too. "Good evening Joy. How are you?" he asked. "W-would it be okay if I err.. p-popped down to see you for a chat sometime?" he asked, and then let out a chuckle. "Or up, I should say, really..." from the Dungeons.
"Ahh R-Roderik, good evening," Art said, and felt Madame Curie lean forward to sniff the man's general direction. Art chuckled. "She says hello too."
Art smiled at Rafael's comment, and reached to his shoulder to pull his dearest down. "She does, doesn't she," he said admiringly. He gave her a loving rub on her head. "W-would you like a... a.. c-cuddle?" he asked hesitantly. He wasn't one to allow others to cuddle his dear, but Madame Curie was vain and she enjoyed the compliments.
Art nodded at Viktor. "Hmm indeed it is. Much more lasting f-friendships and... and.. w-well a chance to make a deeper impact on the lives of our pupils," he said. Though, being in his 60's that was a very deep part of his love of teaching. Back when he was at the muggle high school, it wasn't so much. It was fun to get his hands dirty in chemicals, so to speak.
Madame Curie's tail wagged to the side, and she put one of her paws up, pawing the air towards Kay. A gesture of hello. Art smiled at the dear Professor who he had come to think of as a friend. "Th-thank you," he said with a chuckle. "Compliments will get you everywhere with this one," he cocked his head to the side, indicating his rat. "Y-yes she is, or... she'd like to b-believe I was her co-head of house," he said with a laugh. "These robes are 44 years old, believe it or not. I was very chuffed to fi-find them in such good condition," he said whilst glancing down at the robes.
Art smiled at Rosie. "Y-yes I suppose it is rather overwhelming. But I know the kids will love you. They'll just love you, Rosie!" Of that he was 100% certain. "Err.. I'm a bit.... a bit hungry," he said with a chuckle, and put a hand on his stomach which had just let out a furious rumble. "Do you remember the look of the feasts?" he asked. He had completely forgotten, until the first year he was back as Professor.
Art nodded at Jordan, "It's a very good feeling, isn't it?" he agreed. "It's q-quite surreal, actually. I mean it had been over 40 years from when I graduated to when I came back, if you can believe." Well, of course he could believe, there wasn't a sliver of colour left on his head. It took a second for Art to realise what Jordan was saying. Art looked down and let out a laugh. "Oh w-well I just wanted to show some-some house spirit, you know. Madame Curie and I wanted to fit in with our house." The moment he was offered Head of House he had decided he would wear his old robes to the feast, if he could find them. And he did, miraculously. But he let out another laugh at the compliment, or what Art believed to be a compliment. "I don't think anyone could mistake me as a student," he said, wiping the tears of laughter from his delighted face.
Art chuckled at his fellow silver-stallion friend's confidence. "VERY spiffy indeed! Is it vintage? Where did you get it?" he asked Paul. He looked closely at it. "And... h-how did you tie it so straight? I can never tie it straight enough. One end always falls out... it's a shame, really. I have a few at home, I just... can't wear them."
"And very good to see you too Justin. Very good indeed. I-I'm v-very pleased to see you filling the post of flying Professor, too. Oh I had a lot of fun on a broom back in the day, before my back went out, of course. I'm very well too, very well," he grinned. Yep, this man had not lost any of his spark of life. "I have a granddaughter now. Little April. Gorgeous little thing, her old Pop wouldn't stop cuddling. My son was scared I'd bring her here, if you can imagine that!" Art let out another chuckle.

Hey he was not going to complain. Sure why not for her as well. Viktor has not meant for them to be for anyone else. But better Kay than say Art. "Settled in just fine, Thanks. I have more in my office if you want to sit down and talk sometime in the future".
Was he that obvious. If he was then oh well. Nothing personal Rafael but he would 100 percent want to be on the right side of the table than the left. And of course sitting next to Rosalyn would be a plus. Everyone was so polite. Viktor did not know what to make of it. He was only being nice to get something. Strange. Oh well, now Rosalyn was talking to our side of the table. "Hopefully not too many problem children" Which in Viktor's opinion were Gryffindors mostly and some ravenclaws. Depends. Well he did not mind catching up with Laurel. It was more the time alone he liked. Drinks and snaps were just a plus.
"Its a Date"
Hmm, well Hirsch seemed perfect to deal with all those crazy ravenclaws. Nice response. It was almost like he was used to kids talking to him like that. Interesting. Viktor raises his empty glass at the man and smiled. They will have to talk later. For Fun.
Viktor was always preoccupied with someone or something. So he really did not care if he ever seemed rude or callous. Maybe in the future he will visit Gaston. His parents must have loved Disney movies.
Hmm someone was a romantic. Lasting Friendships. Well he had something of the sort with someone but probably not what Art meant. Viktor just liked teaching and putting knowledge in kids heads. Which he guess is that same as having a deeper impact on the lives of our pupils.
"You have that written above your fireplace, Art"

Oh, was that someone waving at him? Someone from the student body? Hirsch pushed his glasses further up his nose as he peered at the student, taking note of the red hair and the blue robes. There was no mistaking that. Smiling, the man raised a hand and waved back at her. Hello, Haddie Denaker, nice to see you back again.
Would you look at that? Kaysha knew how to joke around. Good because the last thing he really wanted to do was have the joke go horribly wrong all because of a misunderstanding. As it was, he simply raised his eyebrows at her, thoroughly amused. "Looks like I'll have to watch my step, then." Just saying. And what was that about him looking, well, brilliant? "Thank you, that's quite a compliment." And she was right: he was enjoying it a little too much.
The first years would've loved his company? Hirsch let out a small laugh at those words from Rafael. "Rafael, you're forgetting that I'm a man who has more tattoos than fingers and a scruff that stops me from looking like your average professor. I might've scared them." Something they didn't need on their first day.
The Defence Professor had been paying attention to Gaston's words, really, but the moment the man had uttered one of his favourite words, it was as if someone had switched on another switch in his brain. "You brought in your own coffee bar?!" He knew where he was going if he needed some coffee. Sorry, Gaston, you're going to have to deal with this company a lot. "Thank you. I'll drop by to check out this coffee bar of yours."
At least he was honest.
Art really was a nervous man, wasn't he? Or did today warrant for even more nervousness? Hirsch didn't say anything about that but he did offer a smile to the Potions professor and his, er, pet. "Hello, Madame Curie," he said, nodding at the rat, while silently being glad that Art hadn't fashioned a robe for the rat as well. That would not have ended well. "Are you excited?"
Oh, Viktor, if only you knew just how used to the sass he was. But he figured that he might just let the man find out for himself. See how he fared without a warning. Right this minute, however, he raised a glass to the Ancient Runes Professor as well. They surely will talk.
.......... Was that Art? At the Gryffindor table? It was hard, what with the way the man's robes mixed in with those that the students were wearing but there was no missing that head of hair. He watched the scene for a moment or two before looking over at the Ravenclaw table. Should he go down there? Sure, he had a thing or two planned for them but that would wait until tomorrow. Maybe he could pay a small visit..... just maybe. Later.
It wasn’t hard to tell that Gaston seemed, nervous still the way he seemed to try to cover his coughing from Laurel’s perfume made Rafael chuckle. “Gaston, are you ready for the start of classes?” He asked kindly before turning hit attention back toward the new Gryffindor Head of House and Potions Master.
Newton seemed like rather a nice fellow, “Yes, quite so…do your students appreciate her?” He asked as he wasn’t sure what students would think of any of the collection of pets his family had had throughout the year…or well, what they would think of his sometime companion Walter his own ferret….pausing for a moment and smiled over to Art. “Oh, I am quite alright Art, I’m not sure that Walter would approve he tends to hiss at me if he finds me cuddling other’s pets.” He grinned at him. “ Madame Curie understands yes? I don’t wish to offend such a fine pet” his attention was soon taken by Roderick again and he couldn’t help but laugh at the comment the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor was saying.
Roderick really didn’t how many of the students were staring at him like he was a forbidden desert…yeah he noticed those looks Hirsch was getting from some of the girls at the Ravenclaw table especially. ”C’mon Hirsch I don’t think they’d care about tattoos would scare them off…sure, maybe if you also had the personality of a beartrap they would but c’mon, you probably make all of your classes exceedingly fun.” He grinned…wait Coffee bar…might just have to explore that at a later date coffee was after all a most glorious thing.

Did Paul really bring his Rat with him? Raf looked around in somewhat disbelief as the Gryffindor Head of House made his way to the feast. “I don’t know how anyone else feels but its nice to not be teaching toddlers anymore” Rafael grinned over to Paul. “Madame Curie’s look nice…” he left it at that as his attention as immediately taken by Marion Burbage. Darlings, she seemed like fun – she was probably the life of the party when she was still living…really, she could still be the life of the ghosty party…wait was she flirting with him?
That was a first. Looking up at the Astronomy Professor and ghost Rafael just grinned and sent her a little wink. “I don’t get cold easy darling,” he grinned before looking around and watching as Cynthia and Gaston made their own way to the tables. “Gaston,” he grinned over to the Charms Professor – really he was probably going to charm the hearts of all the little first years…well they all were. It was when he looked up next that he noticed the scent in the air, roses.
Sniffing the air he couldn’t help but grin over to Laurel Vance as she walked in…so she liked the candy? That was sweet…”Hello Laurel…your perfume is breathtaking” he said the compliment with a wink. He had meant every word of the compliment, it was a great scent…but at times it was overpoweringly floral…Floral Laurel….it fit her.
Rafael smirked over to Hirsch as he made his way to the table. “I don’t think you’re that late…the kids haven’t filed in yet” she chuckled over to his former classmate.
"Oh ho ho, I bet you don't," Marion chortled before lowering her voice just a smidgen. "I simply muuuuuust ask you something, my dear. Did you perhaps nap prior to your attendance? Get ruffed up by Peeves? Your attire and hair are looking a bit disheveled, my dear."

"Its interesting being back as a Professor as oppose to visitor i would say."
At least someone appreciates the note. Viktor grinned and winked at Marion. He was glad he was not the one between the ghost. Have fun Rafael and Jordan. Even the librarian was good looking. This school was always something else. What was Sahnoun hiring process. Viktor wanted to look at it. Best ignore the nervous Gaston and focus on Laurel. "It is and we can share some later if you willing" innocent grin and then a smile back to Laurel. Nurse Joy was looking fine and was not even phased that Myers took her spot. Hirsch finally made his appearance. Though was he really late if no students were here yet.
"We are all here aren't we"
If they weren't ready why would they take the job of Professors.

Even though he was seated quite a ways away from him didn't mean that she couldn't engage in conversation. Not like she was YELLING over other people. Goodness that would not be good at all. Rosalyn was in a good mood and wanted to have fun but she could control herself. Good thing because the Headmaster had just arrived.
"Good evening, Headmaster. I am definitely ready for the students." BRING THEM ON. She was beyond excited to meet the people that she was going to be teaching.
Uncle Art's arrival caused her to smile. Rosalyn knew how pleased he was - and proud - that she had managed to get a teaching position at Hogwarts. It was going to be great working with family and maybe they could do a lesson together at some point. That would be fun. "Hello! I'm loving it. A little overwhelming when I first stepped in but I am super excited. How are you doing?" It was a shame that that couldn't sit closer together but it wasn't as if they were at total opposite ends of the table. Only two people were between them.
It wasn't every day that a ghost joined a dinner gathering but Rosalyn was content to watch her. The enthusiasm was definitely nice even if she was a bit loud. Also, wasn't it a little weird being at a dinner and not being able to eat??? Not going to ask that because it might be rude, but she was curious... "Good evening, Marion. I take it you're excited to be teaching Astronomy again." Must be super weird as well... Ghosts were interesting in her opinion.
There were more arrivals, and she greeted Cynthia, Gaston, Roderik, Joy, and Laurel in turn. "Hello. You all look nice tonight." She smiled at the compliment; it was always nice to be told that she looked exquisite. "How are you all doing tonight?" Hopefully well? Everyone must be happy to be here even if they didn't show Paul's exuberance. She turned her attention to Kaysha. "I think so, yes. Got everything sorted. Hopefully the students will enjoy my lessons." Too soon to tell, but she was trying to give them interesting topics and fun activities to engage them. "You're ready too I expect?" Muggle Studies was always a fun class. At least in Rosalyn's opinion. "You ready for classes too?" she asked Rafael, Gaston, Laurel, Viktor, and Jordan as well.
"Oh Rosalyn daaaaarling. Excited certainly is ONE word to describe this evening's feeling," she shouted down to the young woman. "Sandwiching the professional career of a former pupil of mine is siiiiimply the icing on the cake." Since Studmuffin Flamsteed had taken up the position after her departure from the living world and now she was stepping back upon his decision to continue else where.
Such bittersweet tidings.

"You should come for a visit someday and perhaps I can make you a cup of coffee." Jordan had his own coffee clinic set up in his hut with all coffee brewing gears.
"Good evening, Justin." He also said hello to the groundskeeper. He had no idea why Justin kind of eyeing Rafael and Roderik but maybe it was a personal problem that he shouldn't be involve or whatever. "Nice bow ties, Paul." He complimented the herbologist. "It matches very well with the pants, and the shirt." And why the hippogriffs he had to sit at the healer's seat?
The new Arithmancy professor was about to wear the same jacket as his too? Well, it would be really funny if he really wore that. They could be a leather jacket buddies together. HAHAHAHA NOPE. "What a fancy scarf, Rafael." This guy really broke the stereotypical of boring subject's professor with that facial hair and good-looking face. Bet that his class will full of giggly teenage girls who had no idea what he's gonna actually teach. Hopefully that it wouldn't happen.
"Good evening, Headmaster Sahnoun." Jordan politely greeted the headmaster man. "I'm so ready for the students being here." In fact that he's looking forward for this ever since he got notified that he could fill the position as a Professor here. "Good evening, Art. It feels good to be back here as a professor." Jordan said to the potion master. "I hope the students won't be confused with you wearing that Gryffindor robes and ties."
And..... Jordan suddenly felt a strange energy. Maybe because Marion Burbage had arrived. Brace yourself, people! Did she just call him darling? Oh, for the love of Abraxan. "Evening, Marion Burbage." Yeah, he wouldn't shake the ghost's hand thank you very much. As he spotted the librarian and the healer, Jordan just smiled and waved at them. "Evening, Gaston." He said hello the Charms professor. This guy looked nervous and he couldn't help but notice it.
He did notice that Viktor (yeah, that's his name! Finally he remembered it.) had left presents to Laurel and Kay. Such a nice gesture. "Evening, Laurel. You seemed very happy with that licorice wand." Cue eyebrow wiggled (although his brows weren't as thick as Rafael's). "Good evening, Roderik. Nice suit, at least you don't need to wear the school robes to show off your new position." Just like the potion master did.
"Hi, Rosalyn." Of course he didn't forget to greet the new History of Magic professor who was also his former classmate. "Yes, I am ready for the classes." And of course he's gonna have a class about the winged horse since he used to work as an Abraxan breeder.
"So...DO tell me," Marion chirped at the man. "Henry used to promise me every spring to take me to see the unicorns in France but unfooooooortunately such sentiments never came into fruition. Perhaps you could bring some peace to this dearly departed soul? Hmmmm? Any chance of seeing those beautiful creatures out and about?"
Perhaps in her own Tower Patch where she was permitted to haunt?

Rosalyn! Art’s little niece. Well she wasn’t REALLY that little. She was a professor and all. “Hello, Rosalyn! I am very well, thank you. And how about you, m’dear?” he asked, still enjoying the healer’s seat.
Rafael showed up looking as starry eyed as ever, ogling openly the female professors. Paul didn’t miss that look, bud. He merely chuckled to himself, happy to be in a stable relationship AND also old. Too old for all that nonsense. The headmaster was here, and Paul bowed his head at the man respectfully. He should probably try to get to know the man better this year. He could maybe join Art and Paul’s old man club once they started it up, of course.
Speaking of Art, there he was! Paul waved cheerfully. “Why, THANK YOU, Art.” He straightened the bowtie on his shirt. “It’s VERY spiffy, I know.” Smug smug smug. He felt SMUG about his bowtie.
LEAPING FLUTTERFLIES. WHAT IN MERLIN’S NAME. Paul’s head WHIPPED around at the voice very LOUDLY calling his name. Marion Burbage. Hmph. Paul smiled, though a little exasperatedly, at the ghost. He could yell back, too, you know. “MARION DARLING. DARLING. I ASSURE YOU, I WILL TAKE CARE OF THE TOWER PATCH FOR YOU, SWEET DEAR. I WILL FIND YOU TOMORROW TO DISCUSS IT.”
He supposed with Airey gone…….she kind of needed a hand, a living hand, to help out.
When Gaston arrived, Paul smirked with a…wicked glint in his eye. He had ideas. He had some greaaaaaaaat ideas. He just needed Rooney and little Olivia to help him, though. Bribes. He had money. He could also bribe with points. Was that a silly thing to…bribe students for? No matter—since when had Paul been NOT silly?
“THANK YOU, Laurel.” Bowties were cool, see? He could tell Milton that nearly EVERYONE had complimented him. “You’re looking mighty snazzy yourself tonight, m’dear.”
Paul saw Healer Joy enter the Great Hall, but he did not move just yet. He smiled as she approached..and….HA. “Very warm, I assure you, m’dear. I’ll move back to my seat—by all means, sit next to Justin if you wish. He’s just a terribly loud……” he lowered his voice but was still LOUD enough for Justin to hear, “Belcher.” He nodded woefully, as if this were a serious matter. “I’m afraid it’s true. Isn’t it Justin?” he winked before slipping back into his own seat.
Hirsch was here, cool. The man got a wave from Paul. And KAY saying he looked cute was quite the compliment. “It’s the bowtie, isn’t it?” It HAD to be. Maybe he should wear them more often. “Thank you, thank you, Jordan,” he smiled at him. SEE THE BOWTIE WAS A MAGIC MAKER APPARENTLY.
Ahh. All was well so far.
"DIVINE MY DEAR! SIIIIIIIIIIIIMPLY DIVINE!" Such a darling he was. Marion was quite pleased to have a man like him in charge of her former house.
SPOILER!!: Justin

"You know it." Smiling as their Headmaster joined in. The students were still getting settled outside so he had plenty of time to be as relaxed as ever.
"Paaaaaaul." Justin grinned over at his friendly neighbor. "No poncho tonight? Well, the tie suits you." Reaching over to give it a little wiggle before patting it back to its neat appearance. Just as "Arty! Good to see you again. I'm doing great, how about yourself?"
Oh lookie here, more fine looking ladies were rejoining. "Evening Rosealyn." Justin greeted her. She was Arty's neice right? He barely recalled but still... Oh wow. Marion was here. Quite lively for a... not so live one. Heh. Quite amusing to him as he finger waggle waved at her. Justin leaned over to Paul to lowly say, "Someone's lucked out on the seating." Not that he was jealous. He had to closest seat to the Headmaster one after all right smack in the middle of everyone, ahem.
Oh hello there cute new Librarian Cynthia and Healer Joy. His grin grew more over at them. Doh. Well, admiring wasn't a crime. How was his family Lady Kay asked? "Haha, it was splendid. And little Lucy's getting so big, she's walking and talking like a pro." There was lots more to tell, but, hey. He wasn't going to spill all the surprises at once in front of everyone. Not yet anyway, heh.
As for Healer Joy. Well, he would miss Cece but he wasn't sadden by her replacement. "Evening Joy." Was all he got out before Paul revealed a not-so-secret, making him turn his head at him. Then back to Joy. Belcher eh? "Well, better loud from the attic than the basement. Amiright, Paul?" Smooooth, yes? He chuckled lightly as he was certain she didn't believe them.. right? Oh well. Heeey.. wasn't that-
"LAUREY!" Justin grinned wide, laughing aloud as she wrapped around him into a nice hug before he returned it. Badgers take note. Snakes give the tighter hugs. "The ride was great, Barty gave them a bit of a surprise but nothing out of ordinary." Sailor of the Sea.. or at least the Black Lake. "How was the trip over here, good?" Nothing to fret over yeah? Big Cousin duties and all.
She would forgive you for the moderately savage attempt at a wave, Justin. But only because she quite fancied your sweet disposition and did looooooooove eavesdropping on discussions about his personal life when he ventured inside the castle.

Maybe he could pay a small visit..... just maybe. Later.
And SPEEEEEEEEAKING of overhearing.
"Oh and you certainly DOOOOOOO wear them well, Roderick dear. OH HO HOOOOOO yes those aaaaaaaaaare scrumptious little bits of body art adorned about your person, aren't they? You wear aaaaaaaaall of them so well, my dear."
And a little mischevious wink to you, darling. Oh yes indeed. HO HO.

Maybe the herbology professor has an unusual taste in fashion, Jordan just met him and the others so apparently there were many things that he didn't know but he knew that they would make such a good teaching team or so. Let's see... "I took that you love wearing bowtie, don't you?" He asked.

"Nothing, I am just asking." The creatures professor casually spoke. "Did you predict that you're gonna get a present from your co-worker today?" Since she had the seer ability or stuffs like that. Divination wasn't his thing.

"I couldn't risk looking like one of the students. As much as I love teaching them, I don't want to be one of them." He was more than happy to leave his teenage years behind, thank you.
Looked like Roderik caught what he meant and he just slightly laughed. "Well, I think the students won't be mind if you became one of those." Smirk, of course that was a joke. "By the way, do you also open the dueling club for the staff? It has been years since I have a duel." Maybe he should participate.

You're quite in love with coffee? HE LOVES COFFEE! It was his life, besides the winged horse obviously. "I am, yeah. In fact that I am not only just drinking them. I learned about the barista technique for a couple of years." Also he used to work in a coffee shop for a little while. "Fruit juice doesn't sound bad, as long as you're not one of those hipster who loves enjoying kale smoothie." Yuck. "My hut is open whenever you want to visit."

And here's the grandpa tried to dress up as a student. "I noticed that your robes is older than my age." He said. And of course that he didn't mean that anyone would notice Art as a student, he's just telling a bad joke. "Yeah, I didn't realize that I missed going back to this castle until now." And once again,he thought that going back to his almamater as a professor was such a big honor.

Oh, for the love of abraxans. This ghost was quite hyper and flirty, wasn't it? (or her? Because technically she's a woman when she's alive.)
Unicorns? Well, Jordan knew that many students would be interested to have a lesson about that. "Let's see, ma'am. I guess that you won't be the only one to wants that happen."

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Kay nodded at Viktor."I'm glad you did. It's great being back here at the Castle, don't you think? At least that's how I felt last term.'' She hadn't realised how much she had missed the place until she had gotten back. "You're welcome and I'll surely take you up on that offer.''
The catching up with her old classmates had already started. Kay was learning something about what Jordan had been up to. "That sounds like fun. Did you do that while attending University? I'm sorry that we were out of contact after Hogwarts.'' She and Jordan had gotten along quite well back then and she hoped it would be the same now. The woman laughed. "No kale for me. I gagged the first time I drank that.'' That was the truth. "Thank you. It's the same with my office.''
Wasn't Madam Curie simply a cutie? Kay wave her hand about. "You wise creature, Madam Curie.'' She laughed. "Does this mean that constant complements will allow me to pet her sometime?'' She knew Art rarely allowed the little rat to be troubled by others. The woman was very surprised. "Really? They look very well cared for and you look quite handsome in them. Are you looking forward to greeting the Gryffindors as head of House?''
"You be sure to play it careful, Roderick,'' Kay replied teasingly. "With one attempt and I could be taking over.'' This professor, however, had no intentions of becoming Head of House. She'd be assisting with Gobstones this term and that and the Muggle Studies positions were enough for her. Poor Roderick though. He had so many responsibilities that she hoped he didn't suffer a breakdown. "If you need help with the Ravenclaws, I'd be happy to assist.'' She was one an Eagle after all and nothing would make her happier. "What's this I see? Your head just inflated at the compliment.''
Brown eyes looked out toward the empty tables before him, though his attention was soon captured by the Potions Master and new Gryffindor Head of House. "I am doing very well," he responded, eye the old robes the man was wearing and the little creature that was perched on his shoulder. "I can see dat you are ready for da new term to begin." He beamed at the professor.
His eyes lingered to the others that arrived and took their places. Each of them got a courteous nod of his head, his eyes twinkling at them all before he picked up conversation with those that spoke to him.
An eyebrow rose when Gaston stated that he thought that he was ready for the arrival of the students. The smile did not leave his face, however. "Well, ready or not, here dey come." The man could hear their murmuring from outside the hall.
"Good evening, mah dear," Sahnoun responded to Laurel. Her question puzzled him for a moment. Wouldn't she be able to tell him if any of his staff were going to be skipping the feast? "What does da Inner Eye say?" he asked, noting the nervousness in her voice and hoping the subject of Divination would calm her a little. "Though I certainly hope dat we all are present."
The Defence professor was the next adult to get a response. "No need to apologize, Roderik. You've made it just in da nick of time."
Rafael's response made the smile on Mohamed's face grow even more. I was born ready. The headmaster certainly liked that bold response.
Another nod was given to Kay, Rosalyn, and Jordan when they greeted him, the latter two mentioning that they were more than ready for the students. Needless to say, it was this kind of spunk that made Sahnoun excited and certain that this term was going to be a phenomenal one. Just from his observations at there staff meetings before today, he could tell that the returnees from the previous year were well-prepared and the new staff were all so eager to begin.
He looked over as Justin spoke and smiled at the man sitting to his left. Paul's nod was spotted too, which earned the older man a nod in return. Though his brown eyes widened when him and Marion started shouting at each other. The headmaster questioned whether that was really necessary...
But his mind soon lingered from saying something to the herbologist and the ghost astronomer. The doors of the hall opened wide and the students trickled in. Sahnoun watched in silence as the older students entered first, mingling and taking their seats. There were a few faces that stuck out to him, the student leaders and those that had visited him in his office the last school year. After some time went by, a batch of unfamiliar faces walked in as they made their way toward the stool for the Sorting Ceremony.
As each student was placed in their Houses, the man's expression remained the same: a warm smile could be found on his face. He clapped each time the Hat placed a student. One by one they went, and soon it would be his turn to take centre stage.

Art listed his eyebrows at what Viktor had said. "N-no... I-I-w-well Great Scott! That NEED to be up there, doesn't it? Yes..." he paused to picture it, and grinned at his colleague. "Marvellous idea Viktor."
The movement of Madame Curie showed that she was, again, happy to be acknowledged by Roderick. Art chuckled again. "We're both very happy to be back. Yes, v-very happy. Though it was hard to say goodbye to my granddaughter. Mmm... only born a few weeks ago, I didn't want to leave so soon..." he paused. "How about you?" he asked.
Art thought about Rafael's question... "Hmm... s-some do, some are rather... afraid of the little dear I think. But she enjoys observing the classes anyway." She sat perched on his desk, or his shoulder, and watched everyone brew their potions. "Don't you my dear? Yes you do, I know... oh yes..." he said to Madame Curie. Art nodded in understanding. "Yes that's true.. that's true. Madame Curie isn't very fond of cats, for obvious reasons," he laughed. "Ohhh, oh, of course, of course she understands." She did, she was a smart dear.
Art chuckled at Jordan's comment. Not in the least offended, though of course the thought never occurred to him to take offence. "Well I'm just glad it's wearable, really." He could have purchased another one, but he wasn't one to just spend money for the sake of it. And not even for the sake of showing off how proud he was to lead his old house. "Mmmm," Art sounded, agreeing with the comment. "Yes I... I don't think one realises what it's like... coming back after so long, you know?" mmm. "So wh-what, may I ask... what are some of the new animals you might like to... to bring into the castle?" he asked the new CoMC Professor. "I'm a bit of an animal lover myself. I'd love to come and... and say hello to them all."
Art chuckled at Kay's comment to Madame Curie. The little Madame held her head high in the air as Kay spoke about her. "What do you say my dear? Shall we let Kay have a bit of a cuddle? No, she won't hurt you, dear..." Art said to his precious. Madame Curie seemed to agree and Art held out his hand, Madame Curie on it, ready for a little cuddle. "She said yes," he said with a grin. Art felt his cheeks go red. He was not used to any compliments, really. "W-well th-thank you Kay. I... d-do try to uh.. t-to take care of things. I suppose being in a garment bag all this time helped... Yes I am! I spent quite a bit of the summer designing some new teas!" He dropped his voice to a whisper and said "I'm planning a bit of a party tonight, in the tower. I'm going to showcase them all," he had them there, ready to go. The four new house-themed teas.
Art let out a chuckle at Headmaster Sahnoun's comment. "Yes, can you believe I still have it? 44 years old and not a tear at all." Art was quite chuffed that it was still in wearing condition. Perhaps he could donate it after the night. He had only wanted to dress up for his house. But perhaps he could wear it next term too... well, that was for future planning. "I'm glad you're doing well Headmaster. It's-it's very good to have you back at Hogwarts."

Students were pouring in! Paul wiggled excitedly. He waved at his table, hoping his new prefects would keep things all good down there! He planned on greeting them briefly once the food came, but for now, he was content with teasing Justin in front of Joy.
But Laurel had a Herbology question! He leaned over so she could hear him. “Maybe! But maybe not. I’ll have to look at it, m’dear! Maybe this coming weekend!” because the first week of lessons was going to buuuuuusy!
And Kay, all the way on the OTHER side of the table, seemed to like his bowtie. Genuine like it. And he was so SMUG about it, so so smug. He wondered if a bowtie would look good on a poncho? Well OBVIOUSLY. “Heh, well thanks, Kay! I can give you some tips sometime!” he teased, winking at her. And then Rafael was bouncing all over, Merlin. Paul wondered if his first term as professor had been that…excitable. “Keep up the energy, Rafael! The students will love it.” Maybe. Some probably wouldn’t, but Paul would keep it to himself at this point. No need to make the new professor nervous.
Vintage? His bowtie? Paul looked down at it, prodded it gently, and shook his head at Art. “Oh! It’s a clip on, Art!” and he clipped it off to show him. “Milton says that it’s very cheap of me to have a CLIP ON bowtie but I don’t much care!” he grinned and clipped it back on. “It still looks nice!
And he bowed at Marion. And decided not to answer, since the Headmaster was staring at them a liiiiiiittle sternly. He probably didn’t like the yelling. Oops?
“Ah, Jordan! I’ve never worn one before now! And I am LOVING IT!” He waved over at him. Yelling around the table was always fun, and clearly every feast wouldn’t be a FEAST without it.
He was glad to see the Friar down at the badger table! The ghost always brought such good vibes.

Rosalyn smiled at Jordan. He was looking really nice tonight and seemed ready to get started on lessons. That was good to see since poor Gaston looked terribly nervous. Poor guy would probably feel better once the first class was out of the way. "Unfortunately I don't see how history of magic would combine with your subject because it would be fun to do a joint lesson." Sigh. Oh well. "It was always one of my favourite classes when I was at Hogwarts." Too bad she couldn't take part in it anymore. And wasn't Cynthia sweet?? Everyone was really. Of course Uncle Art was the sweetest and that was not just bias towards family. He really was the best uncle ever. "You planning to do any book clubs this term?" she asked the woman curiously. If so then maybe Rosalyn could help out because she loved reading. Maybe the students weren't into book clubs anymore, however. Gosh, she was making herself sound older than she really was.
Happy Paul was adorable. Could she call him that?? Would it be weird? Rosalyn really thought that the enthusiasm was precious and he was a really kind man. No wonder he had been made the Hufflepuff Head of House. Those Badgers were just some of the kindest people on earth. "I am doing well too! Very excited to be here and I can't wait to meet the students properly." She hoped that none of the children resented her for taking over for Ansley but she would try her best to make the lessons fun for them. Rosalyn then smiled at Justin. "You ready for the first flying lesson?" she asked him curiously. She had heard that he recently took up the position along with his groundskeeper duties. Good for him because that had always been a fun class. While she hadn't played Quidditch since her Hogwarts days, Rosalyn liked to think that she had been pretty good at it. Unfortunately she hadn't tried out for the Ravenclaw team at any point since she had focused on her studies; however, playing the game during the summer holidays had been a lot of fun.
Everyone had certainly gone the whole nine yards to look amazing tonight. Rosalyn smiled at Laurel. The only thing that would make this feast even better was food though she wasn't incredibly hungry. It had been a while since she had eaten anything that the house elves had prepared so she was looking forward to it. And the speech of course - that went without saying. "I've always found Divination interesting. Especially scrying. Now THAT took a while to get somewhat decent at." Unfortunately she hadn't been very good at the subject; clearly she lacked an Inner Eye. That didn't mean she couldn't have found it fun during the few years she studied it. "Oh, yes. I'm very excited too. I think I'm going to start off a little light though; don't want to hurt the students' brains when they just got back from holidays." That would be mean.
Roderik was as polite as he was handsome. Everyone was telling Rosalyn that she looked good tonight but then her colleagues looked amazing too. It was nice to wear a dress and heels and she was definitely going to take advantage of every opportunity that she got to because normally her wardrobe was on the more casual side. "I am, yes. I'm going to try and make the subject interesting. Get the kids doing some fun activities instead of a lot of essays. I know how boring people can find the subject." That was okay. She wanted to try and make learning as fun as possible. Maybe she WOULD go over things with Kaysha just to make sure that they were running smoothly; nothing wrong with a second opinion. "You're right about that. Help would be amazing. Maybe I could go over my lesson plan with you? I want to start off with something light and fun. Don't want to fill their brains too much when they just got off of holidays." She laughed. Seemed that Rafael had the same idea as her. "That's what I am going to do," she told him with a smile. "Throw in a few fun activities as well." Simple was always a good way to start things off she thought. No point in throwing a bunch of names and dates at them right off the bat. "Oh, I am as ready as I will ever be. Maybe we can do a lesson together at some point." There was history involved in Arithmancy so it was doable.
Poor Gaston. Rosalyn wanted to tell him that everything was okay since he seemed so nervous. She raised her brow at what he said to her but then caught on that it was probably supposed to have been a joke. She smiled. "I'm sure that it will go well for you. I think Charms is one of the most popular subjects at Hogwarts." Up there with Defence Against the Dark arts and Care of Magical Creatures. It would go fine for him and hopefully he would be more at ease soon. Still smiling, she gave Madame Curie some attention. "Well, thank you, Uncle Art. You're not just saying that because we are family, are you?" Not that she would be mad if he WAS... She just hoped that everything would go well. At least she had some of her lesson plans sorted already. She laughed as he said he was a bit hungry. "I am too though not too much since I am way too excited to be here." She was like Paul; they were both super excited. "I remember that there
was a huge selection of some of my favourite foods and I would eat so much that I felt I would burst. You can't remember them from when you were at school?" Of course he was older than her - obviously - but maybe memories had come back to him as well?
Viktor got a chuckle out of her as well. He was someone that she liked talking to and she knew EXACTLY who he was referring to when he mentioned 'problem children'. Of course she didn't share his dislike for the Gryffindors though some of them could be a little... too adventurous. That was the House of the risk-takers for sure though a lot of them were on the mild side. Boxing in because of their House was something that she didn't believe in doing. "Hopefully we won't have to give out any detentions," she told him. That was the part of the job that she least looked forward to though of course she wouldn't spare punishments if they were justified; some children went over the line and then some.
Oh look. More shouting.
Rosalyn nodded at Marion. Well, she DID like her colleague even if she was way too loud most of the time. At least she was enthusiastic? "That's great. I didn't know that you taught the former Arithmancy Professor. I never got to meet him, but I've heard only great things." He seemed like a pretty fun guy if not on the quirky side.
It was good to see that the Headmaster was in a good mood. Rosalyn was sure that the speech would happen at any moment and then the food would arrive.
Once the last sortee gleefully walked to their table, the tall African rose from his seat. He slowly made his way around the table and made his way to the centre of the dais. When he arrived at the owl lecturn, he gazed upon each of the four House tables, his eyes shifting from a sea of red to yellow to blue and green. The usual smile that was on his face was still there as he waited patiently for everyone in the hall to temporarily end their conversations. Sahnoun knew that he wouldn’t have to wait long for their attention, especially since many of them knew what delicious delights would come after his speech.
"Habari za jioni! Good evening! Welcome one and all to the beginning of a new school year at Hogwarts. Welcome back to those of you returning, and welcome to those of you who are new," the headmaster spoke, eyes glistening as they took in all of the young faces staring up at him. "For dose of you who do not yet know me, I am Mohamed Sahnoun. Dis is my second term as headmaster at dis legendary school, dough I taught Alchemy and was headmastah at Uagadou School of Magic for many years."
The man paused to let that introduction sink in to the newcomers. During this time his posture shifted and he gestured with one sweeping motion toward one side of the staff table and then the other.
"You will see dat dere are many new faces joining me up on da staff dais dis evening." Another pause occurred as he made a motion for the new staff to rise from their seats, his dark eyes twinkling. "Everyone, please join me in welcoming our new professahs: Professah Sokolov, Ancient Runes; Professah Carraro, Arithmancy; Professah Burbage, who will be returning to her former Astronomy post; Professah Hernandez, Care of Magical Creatures; Professah Marchand, Charms; Professah Vance, Divination; Professah Newton, History of Magic; and Professah Riveroll, Transfiguration."
His hands clapped together for the new teaching staff. Mohamed led the applause for a few moments before he motioned for two others to also rise from their seats. "Also, give a warm welcome to our new healer and librarian: Ms. Miller and Ms. Davis," he added, leading another round of applause.
Once the new staff were seated, the man faced the students. "Now dat introductions have been taken care of, there is one more thing I would like to address," he stated with a slight nod of his head. The tone of his voice seemed more sombre now. "As I am sure some of you have read in da paper, a former professah and headmastah of dis school recently passed away. Although I sadly never had the chance of meeting him in person, I know dat some of you knew Professah Botros quite well. Out of respect, please stand for a moment of silence."
As he stood without saying a word, Sahnoun thought of the students who had the wonderful opportunity to know the man a professor, then he thought of those few in the hall with them who knew him best as their grandfather. Following a few minutes of quiet, the headmaster concluded, "Dis evening, our feast is dedicated in memory of Abraham Botros. May he find great joy on his journey beyond death, and may we be inspired by his deep-rooted passion for learning."
With a swift wave of his hand, the food for the night's feast appeared on all of the tables. Having no more to say, the African stepped away from the lecturn and returned to his seat.
Turning her focus to Roderick she leaned in just a smidge to comment gently forgetting that she was probably dousing her dinner companion in more rose perfume than was healthy for him. "I see things. I'd worry about pixie dust and chives growing out of the students ears come November if I were you."
Raising a red nail-polished finger to touch the Ravenclaw Head of House pin briefly on Roderick's chest Laurel murmured. "Congratulations to the Head of House appointment. It will give you both great joy and great headaches." Some of those Ravenclaw students would give Roderick drama to deal with before the night was over. In what shape and form though Laurel wasn't certain of. She didn't always see all the details.

Laurel shook her head poor Kay, she didn't look well after all that coughing. Maybe she should ask nurse Joy to slip her old classmate a pepper up potion to make her perk up? Her PERFUME was too STRONG? Staring Laurel breathed in and swallowed a few times before she responded trying to sound kind and not offended. "I apologize for the discomfort my perfume caused." Raising a knowing brow she said "I heard about that horrendous hag. I'm glad she's in MLE hands now. Maybe we can drink tea sometime and you can give me some teaching pointers?"

Rafael. Turning her attention to the dashing arithmancer Laurel did her best to stiffle a giggle at the image of the man wearing perfume that uninvited came to mind at his words. "I thought most men preferred to wear cologne? Cedar would be a nice scent though. I might even have some cedar candles if you want to try it out?" Remembering her vision from earlier that day she asked curiously "You don't own any ducks do you?"

Turning her focus to the charms professor that was noisily clearing his throat and pushing away hair that had fallen into his eyes. It was best not share what she saw in his future, he didn't look like he'd be able to take it. Instead she smiled one of her kind smiles as the sorting got underway in front of them and commented conversationally. "I still remember when I sat on that exact same stool and was sorted into the noble house of Slytherin. Good memories. Did you get your magical education here at Hogwarts too Gaston?" Laurel wondered in her mind's eye what that girl student that looked perfectly drenched from head to toe had done during her boat ride to the school.

He wasn't one to compliment clothing, but this one needed a compliment. "V-very di-diplomatic dress there," he said with a chuckle. "A colour for ev-every house. Wonderful!"
Turning her attention to the elder gentleman down to the right Laurel smiled cheerily. "I'm feeling splendidly this fine evening thank you for asking. How are you Arthur or do you prefer to be called Art?" It was nice that Art had noticed her dress and gave her a compliment when none of her other colleagues had cared to do that especially the other men. Laurel beamed "Thank you, I thought the dress appropriate given that I teach now and shouldn't hold too much house bias even if I'm a snake at heart." It was nice to see that his bloodiness was in prime form by the Slytherin table like old times.

Viktor unsurprisingly agreed to meeting her after the feast for what he labelled as a date. She just saw it as some harmless catching up with an old housemate that she hadn't seen in years. It didn't mean anything else. She might though read his tea leaves if Viktor allowed her to. Speaking of tea Laurel asked "Do you still drink your tea with extra milk and sugar in it like you did when we went here?"

"I knew there was a possibility that I could get a present tonight yes, but what I predict doesn't always come true."
"I take it that you never took Divination as an elective in school?"

"What does da Inner Eye say?" he asked, noting the nervousness in her voice and hoping the subject of Divination would calm her a little. "Though I certainly hope dat we all are present."
The headmaster got a pass for calling her dear. Because he was her elder and boss and thus Laurel let it pass even though she normally didn't like being called dear. It made her feel like she was 10 again, not exactly a happy thought for a grown woman. Leaning in closer to answer the headmasters question Laurel murmured. "The Inner Eye says to expect plenty of turmoil after an unexpected announcement before the feast night is over."

Paul was going to come and inspect her down in the dumps plant. Nodding she agreed with the time. "This coming weekend suits me perfectly, its not in any way a crisis." Laurel was going to be super busy too playing professor for the first times. "Got any handy teaching advice I should adopt to make the students like me and my subject?" Paul seemed like the right man to ask.

Rosalyn had always been easy to like. She had just been that way and Laurel had never figured out why. So when her old classmate brought up scrying Laurel got excited and eager. "Scrying is a method of Divination that I just love. I actually think I will let the students do some scrying in my first lessons of the year. They must after all get friendly with their crystal balls or their predictions will be no good. You should come by the tower and scry with me sometime if you are interested?"
Feeling her stomach grumble loudly she wondered what Mohammed was waiting for. It was high time for the speech to be given so that they could all eat before they fainted out of hunger pangs.

On headmaster Sahnoun's cue Laurel stood up from her seat to wave out to the student's looking up at them and smile warmly too as she was introduced amongst all the other new members on staff. She sat down again, placed her hands in her lap and listened in attentive silence as Mohamed continued with his speech. Hearing about the passing of a former headmaster caused her to shed a silent tear as she respectfully stood up for the moment of silence. Botros had not been around when Laurel had gone to Hogwarts but she got the sense that he had been a loved and respected educator.
When the food arrived she quietly helped herself to a little of everything wondering if the food held the same quality as it had in her school years.

Reason: I had missed someone.
"Hello Kaysha, how are you this evening?" Joy greeted the other women warmly. She had only had the chance to meet her during a few previous staff meetings but she had seemed very nice and welcoming at the time. Everyone did actually and that was something she had silently hoped for.
The arrival of Rosalyn and her cheerful greeting had this women smiling all the more. "Why, thank you Rosalyn, as do you." As did everyone really. They all looked just splendid this evening for the feast and such a talkative happy bunch as well. Each passing moment had the older women feeling more a part of their group already.
Ah, Paul! Joy was so glad he knew she was simply joking and went along with it and evening telling her a secret too! Oh my! "Is he now?!" she laughed softly, hazel eyes straying away from Paul and onto Justin before returning to Paul once more. "My, my I shall have to thank you for the warning." A smiled played at her lips as she slipped down into her seat once Paul had moved onto his own.
Justin got another soft laugh out of her as she heard his response to the not-so-secret secret Paul had filled her in on. This was sure to be a fun year alright.
With the arrival of Laurel came another compliment. "Thank you so much Laurel, you're looking lovely yourself. Why, yes I am. Do you feel we're to have a bad season coming our way?" If so she would need to stock up on her supplies even more just in case. One could never be to ready when it came to a school full of students and staff that would need her help should they fall ill.
Gaston got a small and a nod of her head when she heard his returned greeting directed at her. Normally she would have gladly went ahead to start up a conversation but it was rather tough to do so without shouting across the table, hopefully the man would understand why she hadn't said anything more.
"I'm doing marvelous Art, how are you this evening?" Joy was in the best mood tonight her bright smile never faltering. "It certainly would be, anytime you like." Just so neither of them were busy he was more then welcome to pop on in and speak with her. Any of them could really, staff and students alike.
Everyone else at the table got a bright smile from her as she fell silent. The students were entering! How exciting! This had always been her favorite part of the year watching all the little ones be sorted. Joy remained quiet as the Headmaster moved from his seat to give the start of terms feast. She herself had never had the chance to meet Professor/Headmaster Botros but she was sure that he had been a wonderful man. Out of respect for him she rose to her feet in the moment of silence before once again sitting down afterwards. It was always so sad when someone moved on to their next life.
The food began to appear on the tables and the women wasn't sure what she wanted to taste first. Everything looked so delicious and smelled even more so.
Jordan nodded slightly as the Arithmancy professor asked him about the lesson plan. "I do, yes." He's excited to teach a thing or two about the magical creatures and its beauty to the students. "How about you? I hope you can make them not feel bored about numbers and stuffs."
The charms professor seemed like he's not a huge fan of conversation or he's just uuuuuber nervous about this job, maybe both. Jordan noticed that he only spoke some words to them. "You weren't Hogwarts alumna, were you?" He initiated to start a small talk. "What makes you interested with filling the staff position here?" Just asking, okay?
"Oh please DOOOOO call me Marion, my dear," she clucked at the man. "No, I do suppose not. Although students these days do seem to prefer the more dangerous variety of creature."
Ho ho.
SPOILER!!: daaaaaaaaaaarling Rosalyn

"Astronomy, dear," the ghost corrected gently. "Pupil and colleague of mine, actually. Darling gangly man...oh but it must siiiiimply be DIVINE to work with family." Marion could not help herself but gush on the subject and she had not had the opportunity to speak to the young dear about it. "Did Arthur help get your foot in the door for the position?"

With a swift wave of his hand, the food for the night's feast appeared on all of the tables. Having no more to say, the African stepped away from the lecturn and returned to his seat.
Oh how LOVELY!
Sitting, floating rather, a bit more straight in her seat, Marion beamed out at the sea of darling young faces as the Headmaster addressed them. She offered the crowed a tickled smile and wave of the hand as her name was mentioned, forgetting for a moment that none of whom had been taught by her alive were still present at the school. Time was more of an afterthought when one had an eternity on their semitransparent hands.
And then came the part of the evening that caused her heart's lament for many a reason. Dear darling Abraham...her deepest sympathies were with his family and the had to wonder how darling Annie was dealing with this news as well. Her Hufflepuff heart simply could not take the deeply rooted sorrow and wished she could wipe the ghostly tears from her cheeks as she rose out of her seat to pay her respects as well.
And then it was time for food to appear along another unflattering tinge of jealousy rippling through the ghost. Although she certainly did not let such sentiments reflect on her features. Although perhaps she ought to dismiss herself for the evening...
...that is until she saw the siiiiiiimply dreadful occurrences happening down at some of the tables. "Oh I DO hope the Baron gets that Peeves under control!" she huffed.
Rafael grinned over to Marion and chuckled at her questions. “Oh that is a far assumption Marion, sadly it wasn’t quite like that…I spent most of the day setting up my classrooms and creating areas where the students could play with my chalkboards.” He grinned up at the ghost. “Still, I would have loved taking a nap” he grinned. He chuckled and Justin a nod in response to his answer.
”Oh I do hope the students enjoy the classes,” he laughed, ”or at least can find entertainment in some of what I have planned for lessons” he grinned to Jordan, ”I’m sure everyone will love your classes…Hogwarts seems to have produced some wonderful magizoologists in the past” he meant it. Every word after all Newt Scamander himself had gone to Hogwarts and the famous Charles Weasley.
Headmaster Sahnoun’s smile wasn’t lost on the new Arithmancy Professor. No, it had even emboldened him to be more assertive about his responses and questions. ”Well I completely understand why, I’m not much of a fan of cats myself” he admitted with a laugh, ”If I find a student with a rat for a companion I’ll let them know to talk with you about having little rat play dates,” because obviously pets needed play dates and socializing some of the time.
Raf grinned over to Paul and nodded, ”Of course Paul, I will definitely try and keep my energy up” Raf grinned and glanced over to the students for a moment. It did seem that Art would have a lot to deal with considering how…angsty the Gryffindor table seemed to be. ”well that sounds like a smart plan Miss Newton?” Rafael grinned at the History of Magic Professor’s idea of hosting a class together, ”that would be brilliant Miss Newton, I’m sure we could whip up something on Pythagoras even” he grinned over to her she was absolutely breathtaking did she know that?
”Ah yes well…that is what I meant really, cologne” he grinned over to Laurel and smiled whens he brought up the candles….wait…ducks? Did he have Ducks? ”I…there were some near my house when I was a kid…oh but there are ducks on my um…socks” he admitted with little smirk, ”I used to want them as a kid,” he admitted with a grin. Ducks. They were great little things. It was then after commenting on the Ducks that the Headmaster began his speech.
He himself had never had the fortune of meeting the former Headmaster but the silence seemed like a good way to pay homage to him. Looking out to the tables all Raf could do was laugh as he watched the mess at the Gryffindor table…looked like Art was going to have a handful tonight? Yelling,…singing….antler ears and the headboy was the one behind all of it. The boy slamming his head into the table to remove the pumpkin got a bit of a smirk…that seemed like his kind of house.

Rotten BigHead Boy. Ruining Peeves' fun. But he couldn't ruin Miffy's fun which gave Peeves a good laugh,
"HAHAHA"
Blowing a raspberry at a few people at the staff table he stopped by the Headmasters and took a bow.
"HEEEHEEEHEE HELLO OLD TIMERS. NO MORE DUNGBOMBS FOR YOU I'M AFRAID. BUT I HAVE SOMETHING BETTER. GOT A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. MIFFY AND ME WANTED TO GET MARRIED.
RIGHT MIFFY!"

Another LOUD RASPBERRY preceded Miffy. Up to the Dais she zoomed. "NEW FACES! Simply smashing!'' Miffy lazily floated over to one of the new ones (Viktor). "Aren't you certainly a sweet looking thang?''
*GIGGLE*
Miffy floated away to behind Jordan. She blew on his neck then zoomed off for her polterman. Hubba hubba.
*UNBASHFUL GIGGLE*
"YES WE DO! PEEVESIEPOO AND I WANT TO GET HITCHED!''
Did you hear that, everyone? She wanted to marry this hunk of a poltergeist!
Raf had only heard of Peeves the Poltergeist and had yet to have heard anything of Miffy…Raising an eyebrow he watched as Miffy complimented his feast-mate’s face before Peeves’ announcement. Married? To her?
BUT SHE WAS JUST FLIRTING WITH ANO…A HUMAN? A human man and not another anything! That was just strange? Why did they want to get married? He let his eyes flick between the two poltergeists and…..deaaar lord did she just blow on Jordan’s neck?
“Um…is this a sane idea?” Raf asked the professors within earshot as he had watched the antics the poltergiests had already seemed to pull.

It was relatively quiet down at the end of the table. Felicity felt slightly out of place sitting here at the staff table in a school she had never seen before the staff orientation. Over the summer she had packed up everything and moved from Massachusetts to Scotland for this new job as the transfiguration professor at Hogwarts.
How odd that the first years were sorted by a talking hat. How could a hat decide which house a student should be in? Ilvermorny students were sorted by statues that represented each house. Felicity still clearly remembered the moment of her Ilvermorny sorting when the crystal in the forehead of the Horned Serpent carving had lit up.
All of the first years had been sorted by the hat and it was time for the headmaster to give his speech. New staff were introduced, including herself. Felicity sat in silence for a minute out of respect for the former headmaster. She had never met the man so she was not personally affected much by this news, but she knew that there were others seated in this room who had known him well.
Were those poltergeists? She had heard that such spirits inhabited the castle, but she had not yet encountered them before tonight. The poltergeists wanted to get married? Felicity had never heard of such a thing. Was it possible for spirits of chaos to be married? Not even going to comment on that one. Poltergeists could not be reasoned with without making yourself a target for pranks. Hogwarts was such a strange place. There were moving staircases, sentient hats, poltergeist lovers, and a whole slew of other weird things that Felicity had never encountered before. It would take some getting used to.

Gaston couldn't help but smile at Roderik's reaction when he told him about his coffee bar. Somehow he had an idea he'd like that! "Yes, it's in the seating area outside my office. I also keep some candy and snacks on hand, just in case," he said. His voice dropped as he added, "I'm not exactly Mr. Popularity, so I thought 'The quickest way to the students' hearts is through their stomachs'."
Another voice caught his attention, and he peered down the long table to the Potions Master. He chuckled a little at the man's outfit choice. Clearly somebody was excited about being the new Gryffindor Head of House. "Good evening, Art," Gaston replied, hoping his voice would carry to the other end of the table. He wasn't about to follow the ghost's example and yell! "And good evening to you too, Madame Curie," he added, nodding toward Art's little rat friend. Now there was a nice name for a pet! He'd have no trouble remembering that one. "I'm fine, thank you."Sure, fine... unless you count being a complete nervous wreck!"And how are the two of you this evening?"
Then the other Professor Newton spoke to him. Aww, that was a kind thing to say! He smiled back at her. "Th-thank you for the vote of confidence, Rosalyn," he said, trying to appear less nervous... though that was probably only because he was sitting on his hands to keep himself from running them through his hair or playing with his bracelets. He wasn't surprised when she told him Charms was one of the most popular subjects; that had been the case at Beaubatons too. "I can understand why Charms would be popular. It was certainly my favorite subject in school." He'd been so busy blathering on about Charms that he forgot he was talking to a woman. Wow, he'd managed three sentences without stuttering or doing something goofy that time! See, he was improving...
Speaking of schools... Gaston's head whipped around in the other direction as both Jordan and Laurel asked him about his school. "Oh no, I went to Beaubatons," he addressed them at the same time, hoping they both heard. "Not that there's anything wrong with Hogwarts, of course," he quickly added. "Beaubatons was just closer to home..." He almost laughed at the memory of his parents' reactions when he got his acceptance letter. "It was quite a shock for my parents when the headmaster himself turned up at our door, me being Muggleborn and all..." He hoped they wouldn't think less of him now that they knew he was Muggleborn!
Then Raphael asked him a question. "Why, yes," he replied. "I have my office set up and all my lessons for the year planned." Though whether or not they actually went according to plan was a different story... He wasn't sure if Rafael had heard him tell Roderik about his coffee bar, so it was worth repeating. "I keep a supply of coffee and snacks on hand to share with the students and staff just outside my office. Help yourself to it any time.""Hopefully that'll keep the students from hating me too much..." he added sheepishly.
Gaston turned his attention back to the students, and things started to get chaotic. There was one of the Ravenclaw prefects standing on the table and the Gryffindor ghost yelling about being hit with a spell. And then there was Professor Burbage's awkward topics of conversation... everything from Raphael's appearance to French unicorns to Roderik's tattoos. Merlin's beard! Was there anything this ghost wouldn't say? Was all this normal for Hogwarts? Or was everyone just antsy about the start of the term? Hopefully they'd all calm down soon... He also couldn't help but notice a Slytherin girl who looked upset. The thought crossed his mind to ask her what was wrong and offer to help her, but as he looked around, he noticed the other staff didn't seem too concerned so maybe he shouldn't be either...
He didn't have much time to think about it before the Headmaster started speaking. He blushed, staring at the floor as he heard his name mentioned. Wait, he wasn't supposed to stand up when the headmaster introduced him, was he? He looked around and saw Laurel standing and assumed he should too, but as he rose, he accidentally bumped the table. "Sorry! So sorry, everyone!" he whispered so as not to disrupt. He gave the students a smile and a shy wave before quickly sitting back down, glad to be out of the spotlight.
Gaston stood again in tribute to the fallen former headmaster, his head bowed in respectful silence. He'd never met the man himself, but his heart went out to the students and staff who knew him. He remembered how had he was when some of his former professors passed on, though thankfully not while he was still at Beaubatons. He couldn't imagine what those poor students were going through! His eyes darted sideways, and he noticed Professor Burbage weeping quietly. He wanted to comfort her, but he wasn't sure how... or for that matter, it was even his place to try. Eventually his compassion overcame his shyness, and he turned to her once the headmaster had finished speaking. "Professor Burbage, I'm terribly sorry for your loss," he said. "I take it you knew Headmaster Botros well?"
WHAT... JUST... HAPPENED?!?!?! All Gaston could to was stare in shock as not one but two poltergeists appeared in the hall, one of whom dousing the Ravenclaws in ketchup while the other set off dungbombs at the Gryffindor table. He instinctively reached for his wand to help the Ravenclaws clean themselves up, but it looked like the girl prefect had it under control. He'd heard about Hogwarts's resident poltergeists but this was the first time he actually saw them in action. And now they were coming this way... He watched as the female poltergeist floated over Viktor then blew on Jordan's neck. Oh no, she's coming to me next! he thought, bracing himself for whatever she was going to do to him.... but then she left. Whew!
Wait, what? They were getting married? The romantic side of Gaston was happy for the poltergeists (though he didn't dare congratulate them since there was no telling how they would react!), but the practical side of him wondered if that was even possible, not to mention what kind of havoc it would wreak on Hogwarts. Well maybe the wedding wasn't such a bad idea... maybe they could send them on a honeymoon, preferably far away from Hogwarts!
