EXPOSE THE INEQUALITY. END THE STRUGGLE

With the buzz of the International Magical Pupil Standoff long gone, the year starts off quietly, but with hopes of some dramatics on the rise. Deputy Head Paul Myers sought to bring the dramatic arts to the school. Speaking with Headmistress Hawthorne, it was agreed that Hogwarts would be producing a theatrical version of The Fountain of Fair Fortune.

However, that wasn’t the only kind of drama that was brewing within the walls of the castle. A mysterious letter arrived for Professor Kaysha Stewart. Though the letter wasn’t signed by anyone, she appeared to recognize the handwriting and understood the meaning of the letter’s contents: “The Hawk has been Born. Begin.” Lo and behold, days later, after Myers posted audition details for the play, a hawk was painted on the ceiling above, dripping (animal) blood on the floor. Needless to say, the sight was nerve wracking and raised many questions. Who would do such a thing and why?

Questions remained unanswered as the term continued. Students auditioned for the play and the cast was revealed; but some oddities also took place, such as the ransacking of the Restricted Section, the disappearance of Secrets of the Darkest Art, the Ravenclaw girls’ dormitory being found raided with items missing, and Head Girl Kitty Valentine painting “EXPOSE THE INEQUALITY. END THE STRUGGLE.” in blood on the floor directly beneath the hawk on the ceiling.

The new year brought forth progress with the play. Rehearsals eagerly began (naturally with some drama - coming from Moaning Myrtle who was not pleased being casted as the Stone), and the building of the set was underway with the design and construction of the centerpiece of the play: the fountain.

But more peculiar, unexplained occurrences were taking place. More dormitories were raided, items were stolen, and students fell victim of possession. Hufflepuff Daisy Swann smashed the crystal balls in the Divination mediation room and delivered a Howler to Professor Laurel Vance, which screamed: “THOSE WHO STRUGGLE CANNOT SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS. STOP GAZING THROUGH YOUR CRYSTAL BALLS AND LOOK AT WHAT’S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, SEER!”

Professor Haraldur Baldvinsson was the next victim. This time Slytherin Natalie McKinley stole his personal broomstick and left behind. It shouted: “THOSE WHO STRUGGLED CANNOT FLY ON BROOMSTICKS. LEARN HOW TO WALK WITH YOUR OWN FEET AND USE YOUR MAGIC FOR GOOD, OLD MAN.”

After that, the Art Classroom, with all of the play’s costumes and props, were not safe and were unknowingly destroyed by Ravenclaw Sam Tyler. Of course, another Howler was left behind: “THOSE WHO STRUGGLE SPEND COUNTLESS HOURS ON THEIR CRAFT. TRY PROPERLY MAKING YOUR SILLY PROPS WITHOUT CONSTANTLY WAVING YOUR WAND LEFT AND RIGHT, DRAMA QUEENS.”

Gryffindor Stasya Dalgaard-Volkova was also possessed, stealing a compass that belonged to Professor Camilla Stewart and leaving a loud message: “THOSE WHO STRUGGLE DO NOT HAVE CHARMS TO GUIDE THEM. TAKE A MOMENT TO RECONSIDER YOUR POSITION BECAUSE YOUR MORAL COMPASS NEEDS TWEAKING, DEARIE.”

Sam Tyler wound up possessed again not long after, this time bringing to rehearsal new ‘props’ - a staff made out of Baldvinsson’s broomstick, a brooch made out from a chunk of Vance’s crystal ball, and a necklace that originally was Stewart’s compass. Little did those at the rehearsal know that these items were cursed and that touching the items would force them into a state of paralyzing pain. Professor Myers, Slytherin Junia Botros, and Ravenclaw Juniper Primeaux all fell victims to the curse, as Tyler started chanting the hawk’s haunting slogan and staring blankly into space.

While the trio were under recovery in the Hospital Wing, Professor K. Stewart received another letter, during the Hogsmeade weekend, that stated the following: “The Hawk is still an Eyas. Wait.”

In spite of the things that happened and the rumour that the play was going to be cancelled, a recovered Myers was more than keen to make the production happen. With no more strange occurrences or possessions plaguing the school, Hogwarts graced everyone with a successful performance as well as a much-needed quiet, drama-free end to the school
