Plot summary by sweetpinkpixie

In the wake of tragedy, Hogwarts castle was somehow able to mend itself over the summer months so that students new and old were greeted with a complete stronghold to call home. While physically back in perfect condition, newly appointed Headmaster Botros decided to expand the healing process to include a revival of the spirit - more specifically, the revival of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry school spirit. Thus, Operation RHS (Restoring Hogwarts Spirit) was born. During his opening speech address, Headmaster Botros announced that there would be several camps held over the course of the term to charge the minds, hearts and bodies of Hogwarts students and faculty with positive energy and the promise of a reward to those students who showed the greatest display of school spirit.

Before any of these camps could take place, however, Hogwarts faculty began implementing unusual rules about the castle that were meant to both bring some lighthearted flare and unify the school. From a ‘live long and prosper’ zone in the Astronomy Tower, to flower giving compliments, to shoe switching outside the Headmaster’s office, to the enforcement of trying a new food at every Thursday’s dinner...there was plenty to keep up with as the term went on.

The first camp was administered by none other than the Headmaster himself and came in the form of a picnic breakfast out on the Hogwarts grounds accompanied by a topiary race that pitted house against house. After being served everything from sausage to pancakes, prepared by the Headmaster himself, students and faculty alike were presented with a large bush that they were to then form into the shape of their house’s mascot. Once things had taken shape, the topiary were then raced around a racetrack circumnavigating the Black Lake. Slytherin house were the victors of the race, followed by Ravenclaw, then Gryffindor, and rounding out with Hufflepuff. Stomachs full and with some new additions to the Tower Patch’s decor, everyone called it a day and returned to the castle with a bit more spring to their steps.

To keep the cheer going, Hogwarts staff organized a very special Christmas party and sleepover in the Great Hall on Christmas Eve. The festivities did not stop at a grand feast, but also included tree and cookie decorating along with Secret Santa deliveries where students wrote letters to one another praising one another’s outstanding qualities and offered words of encouragement and empowerment. Board of Governor's president, Cassandra Rae-Braxton, made a very special announcement in which it was revealed that the grand prize of all this spirit raising would be either the chance to participate in a Ministry internship or a Quidditch stadium tour and game depending on the age of the recipient. As glittery snow - where had that come from? - rained down on everyone, everyone tucked in for the night and awoke the next morning to a lot more than just Christmas cheer!

The New Year rang in more surprises at Hogwarts, the first being a camp based around creativity amply titled License to Chill. With giant igloos on the grounds to house the fun activities within, students were able to experience firsthand ice skating, snow-man building, and hot cocoa! Slytherin skated into a win with the ice art challenge, and a snowball fight broke out where the students were supposed to be making snow creations (we see you cause trouble too, professors!). With not even the brisk January weather dampening spirits, the day was deemed another success - but then again, the cold never bothered Hogwarts, anyway. While spirits were rising within the castle walls, efforts were also made to repair previous tresspassings with those residing in the Forbidden Forest. After months of private discussion, the centaur Thereos agreed to host a special seminar on his kind for students and staff to participate in with the hope being that both human and onlooking centaur would see that their two species were not so different from one another. Participating in a sacred ceremony of a centaur receiving their first bow, synonymous with a wizard receiving their first wand, students experienced first hand what it felt like to be a centaur. Even a few from Thereos’ herd emerged to witness the spectacle, although the impact of this lesson has yet to be seen.

To top of a year of spirit, the prefects hosted the first annual Hogwarts Spirit Festival on the grounds. Among the bouncy castle and delicious food, students especially enjoyed blowing off some steam by affectionately dunking professors in dunk tanks. Enthusiasm was on the rise and just as things reached their peak the ground began to shake and rumble and….CANDY CANES APPEARED?! The rumbling persisted and while some faculty and prefects remained at the event to ensure everyone’s safety, a few professors made their way towards the direction of the epicenter of all the shaking to find that the quidditch pitch had mysteriously repaired itself. What could this mean? How could a pitch fix itself? With investigations still underway by the Department of Magical Accidents & Catastrophes, those will have to remain answered another day.

At the end of term feast, Hadleigh Lynch, Head Boy Zander Adair, Prefect Dot Wojack, Benjamin Atreyu, and David Truebridge were announced as the top five students in all of Hogwarts with the most school spirit and recipients of the special opportunities offered by the Board of Governors earlier on in the term. With merriment abound, Hogwartians celebrated into the night. For once, there really was a quiet term at Hogwarts!
