Personality: Being the only child in a very reclusive family, Ben is used to being alone. Other than his family and private tutor, he hasn't always had a lot of interaction with other people in his day-to-day life. Books are his main companions, and he feels very uncomfortable if he doesn’t always have one with him to hide behind read when he gets a chance. He's not likely to initiate conversations with strangers, though once he gets to know someone well enough he maybe more willing to. When he does speak, he tries to be very careful with what he says, always wanting to think before he speaks so he doesn't say something wrong.

When something catches his interest, he becomes determined to learn everything and work so hard at it that he masters it, no matter how long it takes or how many failed attempts he has to go through – unless, of course, those failed attempts happen in front of someone else. The slightest mistake when other people are around causes him to give up and withdraw almost instantly, refusing to “embarrass” himself further. He is always wary about what someone else might think of him, not wanting people to think negatively of him.

Overall, he tries to be more rational than emotional, or at least, he wants to give off that impression. Because of this, he tends to bottle up and ignore any strong emotions, not wanting to create a scene or draw attention to himself.

Background: Ben is the only child of Pascal and Maybelle Selwyn. He was always a quiet and shy child, only speaking once spoken to and even then as little as he could get away with. His parents were not particularly nurturing or affectionate, preferring to leave the house elves to care for him. They were away a lot of the time anyway, helping Pascal's father Claudius smuggle magical creatures and dark artifacts in and out of the country.

Once he was old enough, they requested an old family friend to tutor him, Dorothea Ridgeway, who had also tutored Ben's father when he was Ben's age. Unbeknownst to them, however, Dorothea was beginning to regret the crimes that she had supported by turning a blind eye to what they had been doing for decades. She was as conflicted as she was shrewd, though, as she hesitated for years over what she would do about it, but also subtly encouraged Ben to not blindly accept what his parents - or anyone else - did.

In late June of 2098, Ben's family's current smuggling run was ruined after Dorothea, finally overcome with too much regret to ignore, sent in a tip to law enforcement about their plans. When law enforcement showed up at their rendezvous point, they fought back but were soon defeated and arrested, though not before Ben's grandfather Claudius was killed in the scuffle.

With his parents gone, Dorothea turning herself in as well, and his furious and grief-stricken grandmother refusing to take him in, Ben was removed from his home and placed in Stemp House as soon as possible, and it was arranged for him to transfer to Hogwarts as a fifth year.

Jenna is the fifth of five children born to Peter and Maria Hensley. As she was a very quiet and shy child, she did not make a lot of friends at school at first, so whenever she had free time outside of school, most of it was spent reading, playing with the family dog, and occasionally playing with her brothers if they invited her to. Her mother signed her up for a soccer team when she was seven, and though Jenna was really hesitant at first, it did help her come out of her shell a little and helped her make a few friends.

It was also around this time that she occasionally had moments of uncontrolled underage magic, but luckily she and her brothers (who had also shown signs as they were growing up) had their Uncle Samuel to help their parents deal with and understand why this happened. Jenna, like her brothers, was intrigued by the idea that magic was real, so she began to include books on it into her reading habits as well. Their mother was a little unsure about it all but tried to be supportive of her children regardless, but their father never approved of any of it – his disapproval didn’t do much to stop them though, since he was rarely at home anyway. At least, until the time came for David to start going to Hogwarts, then Peter absolutely refused to let him go to Hogwarts. So Uncle Samuel became their tutor once they each reached age 11.

David and Phillip – especially David – continued to pester their dad about it through the years, and finally in 2084, Peter agreed to let them go to a wizarding school. David chose Hogwarts, and Phillip chose Beauxbatons. Jenna, however, wanted to be homeschooled instead, as that was the year she turned 11, and she didn’t feel ready to go to a boarding school at all, let alone a magical one.

It took a couple years before she felt like she wanted to go, and part of it was probably influenced by her brothers always talking about how great it was there whenever they came home for a break. So in 2086 she started her third year at Hogwarts, and though she fell back on her tendency to keep to herself, she did at least join school magazine, “The Quill”, that term, which helped a little. It turned into a very stressful and scary time, however, with the acromantulas that invaded the school.

At first, during the summer, she didn’t want to return to Hogwarts for the next year. Not only had it been dangerous, but she hadn’t done as well on her class grades as she wanted, due to her neglect of her studies in favor of other things like writing for the magazine, and relationship trouble had escalated between her mom and dad all throughout the year. It was perhaps partially because of the stress at home that she eventually decided to return to Hogwarts, though even more hesitant and cautious than she was last year.

She continued to keep to herself once again during the term, feeling overwhelmingly lonely and yet not willing to try to make friends, wishing that she was back at home all through the first half of term. She was relieved when the Christmas break arrived; however, her relief was short-lived, as the trouble between her parents had reached a breaking point by that time, and her mother announced that they were separating.

This felt like the final straw for Jenna, and she closed herself off even more, hiding away in her room most of the time to avoid everyone. Fortunately, her mother caught on to it, and she channeled all her stress and emotions into helping her youngest daughter.

Jenna did not return to Hogwarts for the majority of the last half of the term. She did return briefly, after a few months when she was starting to feel restless at home, but it wasn’t long before she was feeling extremely overwhelmed again, so she went back home and remained there for the rest of the term.

Personality: Vashti can be a little shy when she is in a new place and knows absolutely nobody, but generally she's very bubbly, out-going, and fun-loving. She loves to laugh and have a good time, though she does know when to be serious. She's typically very even-tempered but can become very frustrated and angered by certain things and people, and she can be extremely stubborn. She also can be a bit competitive, especially when it comes to Quidditch.

Being a Ravenclaw, Vashti is very intelligent, but she tries not to act like a know-it-all (she doesn't always succeed though, particularly when she thinks someone is doing something wrong and, in her eyes, harmful). She likes to think logically but isn't afraid to think outside the box when necessary, and she absolutely adores reading, so she almost always has a book with her. However, she is often worried about her grades and can get really worked up if she thinks she's going to fail. When she's in such a state, it's usually in your best interests to just let her be, no matter how much she might try to force you to quiz her on everything something. As she has gotten older though, her studying habits have gotten a little less extreme, especially since she has had to balance so many different responsibilities at once. She still takes her grades and schoolwork seriously, but her priorities have certainly shifted now that she has children to take care of.
