Theme # 21: Veela


Theodore leaned forward in his seat. For him, the Quidditch World Cup had been a rather lacklustre event. Up till now, the most exciting occurrence had been the appearance of old Archie.

Now, however, he was beginning to think differently.

They were pretty, those Veelas. He leaned forward slightly, a smirk on his face as he looked down. From behind, someone pinched him.

“Ouch, Pansy, go flirt with Malfoy,” he said, wrenching his eyes away from the sight below. “He’s in the top box,” she replied sourly. “But I have my eyes on him.”

Theodore shrugged.

“I don’t,” he said, looking back at the Veelas.

Love Is In The Air
Theme # 49: Yule Ball.


“She loves me, she loves me not.”

The last rose petal fell on the polished floor and Theodore stamped his foot in frustration. He sighed as he gazed at her messy blonde hair and wide eyes, the very picture of, in his own opinion, perfection.

“What are you staring at like that, Nott?” Draco demanded suspiciously, appearing behind him.

“Nothing,” he said quickly, turning away. But as Draco left, he turned back to look at her – She was standing there, with the lucky Ravenclaw who had brought her to the Yule Ball. He smiled at her.

Luan Lovegood smiled dreamily back.

“My Father”
Theme # 41: Thestrals


“What? You can see Thestrals?” Draco demanded, watching Theodore stroking the air. Lazily, almost absent-mindedly, Theodore jerked his head in a yes. Draco ogled at him.

“That day … When Hagrid asked ….” Draco began. “You didn’t raise your hand …” he stopped, rather lamely. Theodore looked up at him in a so-what attitude and shrugged. Pansy’s eyes were wider than they had ever been before – Even wider than the occasion when Malfoy had been turned into an amazing bouncing Ferret.

“Whom did you see die?” Draco asked, taking a step closer to him.

“My father,” Theodore replied, a very enigmatic smile playing around his lips.

A Pajama Stroll
Theme # 98: Pajamas


As he drowsily descended the staircase leading towards the Slytherin Common Room, Theodore realized right away that something was not right. People were staring at him. Scowling, he left the common room, rubbing his sleepy eyes.

He took a right turn and walked into the Great Hall. At once, each pair of eyes in the Hall turned towards him and goggled at him. Someone let out a snort of laughter. Theodore Nott raised an eyebrow. “What the –?” he began, but he was cut off by an irate Professor McGonagall, half-running his direction.

“Nott,” she practically shouted. “What do you think you’re doing out here in your Pajamas, boy?”

Sweet Revenge
Theme # 24: House Elf


Theodore Nott had always longed for a House Elf.

Not one like this, however.

“Young master called?” Kreacher asked, bowing, adding in an undertone, “Oh, and the shame of being given to the Nott boy, oh the shame, the shame.”

“What have you been doing in my room?” Theodore thundered.

“Kreacher has been cleaning,” came the reply, followed by a “Kreacher must save the sacred –”

“Sacred what?” Theodore demanded sharply.

“Kreacher is cleaning,” the House Elf replied, slinking away from the room. Theodore turned his back to him, infuriated. He didn’t see Kreacher grab his precious gold watch as the house elf left.

Revenge, in Kreacher’s opinion, was sweet.

Troubling Hallucinations
Theme # 44: Ford Anglia

Nothing could daunt Theodore Nott – At least, that was what he thought. And, sitting in a compartment at the front of the train, he was now telling this to Draco Malfoy, who was merely snorting sarcastically.

“I could scare you right now, Nott,” Draco sneered. “Oh yeah –” Theodore began, but he suddenly stopped short; the colour drained from his face.

“Intimidated already, Nott?” Draco asked jeeringly. Theodore did not reply. He was staring out of the window, open-mouthed – He could have bet any number of galleons he had just seen Harry Potter suspended in mid-air, clutching the sides of a Ford Anglia.

Unavoidable Allergies
Theme # 94: Allergic


“A-Cho-o-OO!”

Theodore had never entertained the possibly of being allergic to anything, ever before. However, it seemed he was. And it certainly wasn’t the weather.

“A-CHOO,” he sneezed again, louder this time, just as Draco stepped inside the classroom and sat down next to him. “A-a-a-a-a-CHOO-oo.”

Professor McGonagall let out an exasperated sigh and marched over to him, carrying the pincushion she had just transfigured. “Are you allergic to cats, Mr. Nott?” she asked sharply.

“No, Professor,” Theodore replied, glancing at Draco and sneezing again, leaving everyone in no doubt that this allergy was a pretended one. “I’m allergic to Draco.”

Very-Short-“Cuts”
Theme # 81: Depression


Depression was eating him from within; Theodore Nott curled up in his four-poster and stared miserably into his pillow. The slight creak of the dormitory door made him look up. A figure entered and slumped down on the bed beside him.

“Nott?” someone said, but Theodore did not reply. He was trying to repress the thoughts swirling in his mind. A shudder went up his spine every time he thought of what loomed in front of him. He did not want to do it, but his mother was forcing him to.

She was forcing him to get his hair cut.

An Irksome Piece of Work
Theme # 100: Homework


A short sequel to Very-Short-“Cuts”


“Oh, hello, what happened to your hair?” Luna’s dreamy voice floated towards Theodore as he entered the Library. His insides shrivelled with embarrassment as he bent towards his homework.

“Shove off, Loony,” he hissed.

“Oh, that’s not at all very nice, you know,” Lily replied dreamily, tipping back her chair. She leant back too far and the chair fell on its back with a bang. The vulture-like librarian instantly pounced on them.

“What are you doing?” she demanded.

“Homework,” Theodore said very quietly, and he quickly turned around and left.

Luna would deal with the Librarian. He knew that.

To Not Worry
Theme # 99: Newspaper


As Theodore at down at breakfast, an owl landed in front of him with his daily edition of The Quibbler. He found it hard to conceal, at times, his affection for the magazine. He smoothed out the copy and –

– Spilled juice down his front.

A huge picture of Harry Potter was staring up at him from the front. His eyes narrowed as they slid down the column, reading the piece. Then he stopped.

That Potter had named his father as a Death Eater – He would pay. Then, suddenly, Theodore laughed. Everyone knew not to take The Quibbler seriously.

Why should he?

Meddling With Time
Theme # 28: Timeturner


“Ouch.”

Theodore looked up, finding that he had bumped into Hermione, knocking her off her feet. She looked around frantically, and he noticed something lying nearby.

As he picked it up, Hermione tried to wrench it away from him. Suddenly, he was rushing through a whirlwind of noise. Then he landed, in some sort of Japanese building.

“Where are we?” Theodore demanded, raising an eyebrow. Biting her lip, Hermione pointed to the calendar on the nearest wall, showing the day’s date.

“So what?” Theodore asked, without looking.

“My time-turner’s broken,” Hermione replied in a choked whisper, staring, horrified, at the Calendar – The date read: August 6, 1945.

Tables Turned
Theme # 8: Potions


Whoever invented Potions should be skinned alive, Theodore thought as Snape passed his cauldron. If there was one thing he despised more than Dumbledore, it was Potions.

Snape was now standing with his back to him. Cautiously, Theodore dipped the end of his robes in his cauldron and set it on fire. Smoke spread throughout the classroom.

“Longbottom?” Snape shouted. “Did you set your cauldron on fire again –?”

But the rest of his words were drowned by a chorus of laughter from the Gryffindors. Theodore didn’t mind.

- After all, he didn’t like Snape any more than he liked the Gryffindors.

Wondrous Wonders
Theme # 61: Kiss


“Malfoy, what are you doing?”

Theodore Nott stopped in his tracks as he entered the Boys Dormitory. In the darkness, he saw Draco hastily hide something under his pillow. He could have sworn Draco had been kissing a …

“Nothing,” Draco said tersely. “Go to bed.”

Not pressing the point, Theodore climbed into bed. He woke up a little after seven, by which time Draco was nowhere to be seen. Perfect, he thought. Noiselessly removing Draco’s pillow, he risked a peek beneath.

There, lying underneath, was a hideously sweet Teddy Bear, the note attached to it reading “For my Draco, Love Mommy.”

Iio, Ganymede - And Luna Lovegood
Theme # 23: Telescope


As Professor Sinistra swept past the students, Theodore Nott hastily focused his telescope on Jupiter, and began to write down the names of the planets he could see. But, as the Professor turned around, he shifted it again, staring at a mane of messy blonde hair, underneath which two, misty eyes were visible. They had a mystique beauty about them, he thought, submitting his class-work to Professor Sinistra.

“Mr. Nott?”

Theodore turned around. Professor Sinistra had one eyebrow raised as she wordlessly handed him back his parchment, and he reread what he had just written:

Ganymede.
Iio.
Loony Lovegood.

When Kneazles Attack ...
Theme # 22: Kneazle


Maybe he should be nicer to Luna, Theodore reflected as he watched her leave a classroom, carrying what looked like a shapeless log.

“Hello, Luna,” he said.

“It’s part Kneazle,” Luna said dreamily, without replying to his greeting, and pointing to what she was carrying. “Kneazles are forming an army to take over the Ministry by turning people into Kneazles, too.”

Theodore couldn’t help it; he snorted.

“They are,” Luna insisted, eyes half-closed. Suddenly, the cat jumped down from her hands and poked its sharp claw in Theodore’s socks. He yelped.

“And did I mention –? They bite.”

And Luna walked away.

True Slytherins ... Don't Blush
Theme # 25: Sorting Hat


Theodore drummed his thin fingers along the side of his house table as the first years were sorted. Midgets, he thought dispassionately.

“Slytherin,” the hat shouted and a tiny first year stumbled over to their table, blushing madly.

“What’s your name?” Malfoy shot at him immediately.

Blush.

“You don’t blush in Slytherin,” Malfoy said disgustedly. “Get a grip.”

“E – E – Euan,” the boy stammered.

Blush.

“Euan What?” Malfoy demanded.

“M-mind y-your own business,” the boy squeaked.

It was Malfoy’s turn to blush now.

“You don’t blush in Slytherin, mate,” Theodore said, smirking, and he threw a napkin at Malfoy. “Get a grip.”

Of Evil Quills
Theme # 26: Quill


“Did you bring what I asked you to, Mr. Nott?” Dolores Umbridge asked in a honeyed voice. Theodore forced himself not to swear; he hated her more than, perhaps, Harry himself, for she was not letting them learn; but he wanted to learn defensive techniques only because he had rowed with Ginny Weasley twice in the past week.

“Yes, Professor,” he said, handing her a quill with an unusually sharp and pointed end. A cunning smile spread over Umbridge’s countenance.

“Thank you, Mr. Nott,” she said softly. “And remember – Not a word to anyone.”

“I will, Professor,” Theodore said, suddenly smiling. And he would be sure to land Ginny Weasley in detention, too, he thought as he left.

Divine Revelations
Theme # 6: Divination


Theodore absent-mindedly scratched his cheek with the tip of his quill; Divination, he thought, was more boring than words could say. He laid it aside – and found Pansy Parkinson staring at him. Again.

“I thought you were heads over heels in love with Malfoy,” he snapped at her from the corner of his mouth.

“That is not what my tealeaves say,” she said, smirking.

“What do they say then?” he asked, trying not to snort. Only last time Pansy had told him how the letters T and P were inseparable.

“That I am not,” she replied, sniggering. “He is.”

Vengeance
Theme # 71: Untie


Theodore was bored. And he wasn’t feeling particularly happy either – Earlier that evening, Draco Malfoy had tripped him in the Entrance Hall, on purpose, exhibiting his knowledge of muggle ways of revenge. How pathetic, he thought.

But, maybe, Theodore wasn’t such a novice when it came to Muggle revenge, either. In the darkness, he tightened the knot on the end of the rope, binding a slim figure to a stick, in the midst of the Forbidden Forest.

“Untie me, now, Nott,” Draco hissed, struggling to free himself.

Without replying, Theodore left, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.

Of Muggles and Men
Theme # 2: Muggle Studies


Theodore Nott had only discovered recently how much he enjoyed attending his Muggle Studies lessons; in fact, he was beginning to like the class more and more everyday – It was amazing.

Right now, he wasn’t really listening to what the Professor was saying. In fact, he hadn’t taken in a single word of the Professor’s lecture till now. He was wholly engrossed in staring at the front of the class, where a misty-eyed Ravenclaw with messy hair sat, talking animatedly to Ginny Weasley, who was nodding politely.

He loved Muggle Studies – Really.

It was one class Luna Lovegood never missed. Never.

A Minus T
Theme # 3: Transfiguration


Professor McGonagall marched through the students, handing out their Transfiguration essays. She gave Draco a stern look as she handed over his essay to him; an inky P scrawled across it.

Theodore tried to hide himself from view, but it was not to be – Professor McGonagall stepped up to him. However, there was a strange smile playing around her lips as she passed him his essay.

“You’ve improved, Nott,” she said. Relieved, Theodore took his essay and gazed at the tiny grade – It was a T. Thank God, he thought to himself.

Last time, it had been a – T.

Artistic Flair
Theme # 4: Ancient Runes


Ancient Runes was, in one word, boring. Theodore wondered why he had ever taken the subject in the first place. And Professor Opteryx was no help. It seemed the man was bent upon forcing you to end up in detention.

He sketched upon his parchment as the Professor explained about a certain rune. Then –

“MR. NOTT!”

“Yes, Professor?” he asked, startled.

“What are you doing there, boy?” The Professor asked dangerously, as he snatched the parchment from Theodore. He stared at it for a second; then he raised an eyebrow.

There, in flowing robes, was a sketch of Luna Lovegood.

When Trees Assault
Theme # 18: Whomping Willow

“Ouch.”

Brushing dust off his robes, Theodore Nott straightened up, almost having been whacked by the Whomping Willow. He hated that tree – Of course, he loved adventure, and despite all the resistance the tree had been putting up against him for the last few years, he had still not given up hope of finding a way past it.

Frustrated, he kicked the tree; hard.

Whack!

He didn’t jump aside in time – A huge branch smacked him unkindly in the back, sending him flying through the air.

Ouch, he thought bitterly, landing face-down on the ground.

And he kicked it again.

Chocolaty Affection
Theme # 92: Chocolate


There were probably more than a hundred and one reasons why Theodore Nott loved chocolate much. First off, it was so … – chocolaty. Well, it was. Really. And it always made him feel better.

“Mmmm,” he thought, shoving half a bar of chocolate in his mouth and devouring it greedily. Pansy, who had been watching him intently only a moment ago, turned away, suddenly looking rather shocked.

Shooting her a quick glance from the corner of his eye, Theodore could not help smiling to himself. Watching her distasteful expression, he had to smirk; did he mention –? Pansy despised chocolate.
