Art was stooped over his walking stick. It was all that was holding him up. He'd thought this would have been fun, a good idea, something to get a laugh, but he was regretting it now. The walking stick was shaking under his tremour. Even dear Madame Curie was looking at him, her little nose sniffing about in concern. He slowly, slowly pulled out his chair, walked around it, and sat down. It took him about two minutes to be able to lift up high enough to place his backside on the chair, but there it was. And hopefully he wouldn't have to move it this lesson. It would take a few hours for the potion to wear off.
The door was already open, and the ingredients were lined up under a charmed piece of cloth. Mostly so that he could be sure nobody had tampered with them, but also to keep the ingredients a secret. At least for now. He was starting to think about how he would manage to reach across the desk to lift the cloths... how would he manage that? Well, a class of students, he was sure he could ask one of them to lift it up for him.
Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.
Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice and begin stirring clockwise until you can just see bubbles starting to form. (The mixture will be dark purple/brown)
Immediately add the Hairy Fungus and continue to stir clockwise for ten minutes. (The mixture will slowly fade to a lighter purple/brown)
Continuing to stir clockwise, add the tortoise shell. (The mixture will be a creamy color)
After eight minutes, remove the cauldron from the heat and add the caterpillar and bat tongue, making sure to continue to stir the solution in a clockwise motion for five minutes, until it changes to a creamy green colour.
As the potion cools, it will turn emerald green. Once it is completely cooled (about fifteen to twenty minutes), you may cease dispense the potion into appropriate vials for storage.

Janelle had finished her cleaning and was now watching her potion like a hawk. Bad idea. A watched pot never boils and all that. Twenty minutes was a really long time. Finally it appeared that the color of the liquid was changing. It's creaminess was fading and her potion was becoming more clear. It was transforming right before her eyes, albeit slowly. Janelle let out a relieved breath. Her potion was a very pretty emerald green now. She had done it and without having to ask Zeke for any help. She'd have to take a rain check on that offered assistance. No doubt she would need it eventually and hoped he would allow it to be transferable.
Happy to be done, Janelle retrieved her vial and carefully filled it with the green potion. She sealed it properly and set the vial down. Then Janelle grabbed a label and wrote her identifying information on it.

Janelle stuck the label onto her vial and headed up to the professor's desk. She turned in her sample and returned to her work station to do a final tidy up. As she finished, Janelle noticed some drama happening. Hady drama........again. Why oh why did it always have to be Ravenclaw? Apparently Janelle had been so focused on her potion, that she had missed the goings on. Never a dull moment at Hogwarts.

Slicing his caterpillar carefully while he had to wait, Zeke checked to make sure that his knife skills were as good as they had been over the summer, checking for consistency with his slug slices. Yes. Yes... yes.... good. They looked in order. Following that, he prepared his bat tongue, dicing it as per the instructions. Not too small but not too big either, and judging by the size it had been when Newton had demonstrated, he was pretty much right, if not exactly the same. It was an interesting thing though, slicing something that was already technically speaking, quite small. But it was done.
When his time signalled that the eight minutes was up, Zeke extinguished the flame beneath his cauldron, effectively removing it from the heat source. And carefully - so as not to splash - Zeke added 2 grams of the caterpillar slices (carefully measures) followed by the diced bat tongue. Setting a timer to guide him, Zeke continued to stir the potion in a clockwise fashion.
Stirring.
It wasn't his favourite thing, but it was oddly soothing. It didn't require much thinking, and so for the most part of the five minutes he was able to focus on nothing other than his breaking and his stirring... not thinking at all. He didn't even realise until the timer signalled the five minutes was up, that the potion had changed colour to a creamy shade of green. How... delightful. It looked oddly healthy in a way.
Unsure how correct her potion was, Kye scribbled on a label and attached it to the vial.

Following suit, meaning she saw someone else do it first, she brought her sample up to the Professor's desk. She put it down awkwardly, doubting she would have to actually drink the liquid but pausing in case she was asked to.
Oh how she wished she had partnered up with someone.
She became distracted by the goings on that she had apparently not noticed while she was brewing... there was a child now running around who looked to be 6 or 7 and Kye couldn't help but watch. Okay, a child literally just ran out of the classroom. At least, she couldn't say she was having a boring day, right?

After what felt like it had to have been at least a year, the eight minutes were up. Olly was very excited and his head shot up to the board to see waht he had to do next. Remove it from heat, okay he could do that. He put the fire out from under his cauldron so it would stop heating the potion. It couldn't get too hot of course or he wouldn't want to drink it. Well, he wasn't sure if he was going to drink it anyway but that was beside the point.
He added the caterpillar and the bat tongue to the potion next. Why were all potions ingredients so gross? He didn't want to drink something with a caterpillar and a bat tongue in it. No potion ever sounded appetizing and yet most of them were ingested. Was one ingredient there to add to the taste? Was that taken into consideration when creating the potion? He hoped so.
After those were added it was time for...MORE STIRRING? Why? Why did this have to happen to him? He was a good person. He didn't deserve this. All this...stirring and whatever. But he kept stirring. Clockwise. Five whole minutes.

Stir, stir, STIR. She was forever stirring. Why couldn't they use a spell for this? She knew there was such a thing as a self stirring spell. Or was is a self stirring cauldron? If that was the case then it was a bit too late for that seeing as how it was her final year. Addison, her mother, would not be giving her any cash if it only was to promote laziness. Moms and their rules. AJ wasn't about to waste any more of her money either so stir she shall.
After what felt like ten years, the ten minutes were up. Thank Merlin. The cauldron contents were actually a lighter color. This was something she missed during her internal whining. Funny how that happened.
AJ added the tortoise shell powder and sighed when she learned they would be stirring more. This time it was only eight minutes which saved her a whole two minutes, but her arm was already protesting. In a clockwise motion, she stirred her potion as she hummed to herself. About two minutes in she saw that the color began to change to a creamy color. Oh no. Panic was setting in when she realized that it was supposed to that. Phew.

Eh, she guessed she was pronouncing it correctly. "Score-jif-eye", Skylar said again, this time with the wand motion. Nothing happened, but maybe this was one of those spells which weren't seen but they were just done. Peering into her cauldron, it looked clean to the first year, so that meant it was clean, right? probably not, but ssh!
First step was to measure out each of the ingredients. Which the only thing that sounded remotely appetizing was the first thing on the list, but she guessed that was part of getting older was that things that were once deemed disgusting would become part of life. Or tolerable.
Pouring the measured wine and prune juice into her cauldron directly, Sky set it on a low heat, as she began to mash the hairy fungus. She totally missed the part that she was supposed to stir it periodically too. She did give it one clockwise stir, but then promptly returned to preparing the rest of her ingredients.

Oliver kept stirring. For five minutes he stirred and stirred, and kept stirring some more. He had to keep switching arms because they were both tired from all the stirring he had to do earlier. So it was a pretty rough five minutes. Not to mention it was the longest five minutes of his entire life. But finally the time was up. And his potion had in fact changed colors. It was a pretty light green color. Was that what it was supposed to look like? He didn't know exactly how to characterize creamy green but he supposed this was good. It had to be because he'd done all he could.
He stopped stirring when the five minutes was up and looked back at the board. He was done now? It just had to cool. But no way was he going to sit there for twenty more minutes and wait for it to cool. It could cool as it waited on the professors desk. So he scooped some up and poured it into a vial. He quickly scribbled a label.

And he brought it up to the professors desk. He hesitated before setting it down, however. This was the moment where he had to decide if he wanted to drink it or not. "Professor, could I take some with me to drink later?" That way he wouldn't have to make the decision immediately. And who knew when a potion like that might come in handy.

Hairy fungus mashed. Two grams measured. Tortoise shell powdered ... and two grams of that measured. Skylar was about to move on to slicing caterpillar, when she heard someone ask a question about taking the potion with them; uh, yes please? Because if she was successful with brewing it, she'd definitely want to have some for later because who knew when an aging potion might come in handy.
That was when she happened to glance at the cauldron and noticed it was bubbling a bit too much. And it looked murky brown, not deep purple/brown, like the instructions said it would. But she must press on; she didn't ruin her first ever potion which was way beyond her grade level. Thinking quickly, Sky turned the heat down on the cauldron and stirred it some more clockwise. Once the bubbles calmed down slightly, the first year promptly added the fungus, and continued to stir clockwise. Ten minutes. If only she knew more magic and could charm the stirrer to keep stirring automatically; why didn't she pay more attention at home?
Propping her chin under one hand, she used her other hand to keep stirring her potion. This was boring waiting for this. She could be slicing caterpillars and preparing the bat tongue.

Ahh. Yaay! They were going to be brewing a potion. Harriet had kind of decided that was probably what they were going to be doing in Potions, but she was so excited to finally get to brew a potion. Her big sister had been really good at potions, as was her mother, so Hattie was hoping that she would be really good at potions too. But she was not going to get ahead of herself. She didn't want to have too big an ego. She just hoped that she would be good. She'd practice lots, as long as she did good.
First Harriet decided to write down all the ingredients and the instructions. This way she could just look at her notebook instead of looking at the board all the time. She preferred that. She hummed to herself as she carefully wrote everyone down

Once that was all done Harriet got up out of her chair, and went to collect her ingredients. She used the little measuring bowls, and made sure that she measured enough of each ingredient, and then a little bit more. She wanted to make sure that she had enough because she didn't want to run out half way through and ruin the potion. She wanted to be good at potions, and that meant she couldn't be running around, and be panicking half way through brewing her potion.
Carefully she headed back to her area of the potion room, and put all her ingredients down on the board. Perfect. Now she could begin. Getting her wand out, she thought of the charm she needed. Ahh yes. She needed to clean her cauldron. Pointing her wand at the cauldron she has "Scourgify" And waited. And nothing happened. "Oh." That wasn't good. She frowned, and repeated the charm. Uh. This was not a good start.

In her excitement and awe, Kitty hadn't realized just how loud she had been talking. But she got the hint when Haddie moved a few inches away from her and from the look that she was giving her, as if she were a very unusual alien. Haddie clearly didn't remember her. But before Kitty could try to change her tone; Haddie had darted out of the classroom. "Haddie come back!" But it was too late.
"Should someone go after her? I could go after her if you wanted." Kitty directed this question to the professor. If they were not in the middle of a lesson she would have followed her without even asking, and a part of her wanted to do so anyway.
But in the meantime she quickly went back to her potion to try to finish it. She continued to follow the instructions for her potion, adding the hairy fungus before stirring clockwise. When at long last the mixture had turned purplish brown she added the crushed tortoise shell (while continuing to stir) A strange fizzing sound happened then moments before the entire mixture turned into the color of cream. It was starting to look very tasty now.
But it was hard to concentrate, and Kitty found herself rushing the steps - stirring for two minutes instead of ten minutes and making other mistakes similar. Her mind was on Haddie, wandering the castle - all alone and with no memories of her past...

Okay, so maybe her potion wasn't ruined. It went from murky brown to lighter brown, so that was good, right? That it got lighter? Hopefully. Once the ten minutes was up, and her potion was at the steady lighter colour, Skylar added the powdered tortoise shell that she'd carefully weighed out.
Keep stirring. Eight more minutes then she could take it off the heat, but she still had to dice the bat tongue. Stopping stirring for just a moment, Sky took the time to carefully dice the one bat tongue at her workstation. It kind of looked like diced tomatoes...
Yawn.
Another clockwise stir. Or was it counter? Eh, did it make a difference which way she stirred a potion, like really? Deciding it didn't - for now - Sky just stirred her potion at least semi-consistently for the remainder of the four minutes she had left. She was almost done. Maybe.

And she was still struggling to get the charm to work. That was annoying. She wanted to get on and manage to brew her potion already! But she knew that she needed to get the charm to work. She figured the potion's Professor wouldn't want her to clean the cauldron by hand. So she really needed to get the charm to work. She frowned, pointing her wand at the cauldron again. She could do this. It was just a simple cleaning charm. "Scourgify" She murmured, concentrating lots and lots. She wanted to do this. She could do this.
And yay! It had worked. She had cleaned the cauldron. Harriet beamed, doing a little happy dance. She had done it. Well the first part. Now she needed to move and get onto the first part of the instructions. "Slowly heat red wine and prune juice... stir clockwise until bubbles start to form" Okay. She could do that.
Pointing her wand at the bottom of the cauldron, she set it at a small flame. It needed to be slowly heated, so she figured that a small flame would work. Smiling, she carefully put the red wine, and then the prune juice into her cauldron. Now she needed to stir. The girl sighed. She didn't know the charm to get her stirrer to stir itself. That meant she had to stir it by hand. That was kind of annoying, but good too. She wanted to learn how to do things by hand. That was an important as learning magic. So she picked up her stirrer, and began to stir her potion clockwise, waiting carefully to see when the bubble began to form.

Immediately after she stopped stirring the potion, Esme dumped in the hairy fungus that she had mashed up previously.
Now for a whole lot more stirring. Oh joy. Picking up the wooden stirrer again, she began working in a clockwise direction once more. This was always the most tedious part of potion brewing because she could be a rather impatient person. Every once in a while she would look at the clock to make sure that she didn't lose track of time.
It was at this moment that an upset Haddie made for the door. Oh dear. It didn't take a rocket scientist to work out what happened.
"Professor Newton, I lost track of time!" Oops? No matter because there were more important things to worry about. Who cared ajbout the potion when her friend was upset? "Can I go with Hady?"

Hadley needed to stop saying that, especially when she was littler than he was! He blinked at her as she pulled off her robes and then took off, one hand lifting up as if he was going to make a grab for her. He didn't, though, because... really, how far could she go, and how much damage could she do? The potion would wear off soon enough, right? Right? And then she'd be embarrassed and silly. So HAH. HAH, Hadley Denaker.
Jaemin stuck his tongue out in her direction before turning on his heel and stomping back to his cauldron. He'd show her. HE WOULD. His potion would work right and he'd be an adult. A TALL ADULT. A full on grown up. And she would be seven.
The green colour was getting stronger and clearer now, but it wasn't where it needed to be just yet. The professor's sample was deeper colour than his cauldron was right now. The short Slytherin popped himself back into his seat and stared at the liquid impatiently, bouncing a bit as it slowly but surely moved to the colour it was supposed to be.
Idly, he wondered if casting a spell to make it cold around the cauldron, so it would cool faster, would mess everything up. He didn't dare do it, not without asking the professor, but... he would reserve that question for now. He had more important things to do LIKE BOTTLING UP HIS POTION AND LABELING IT BECAUSE YESSSSSSSS.
There were lots of careful movements involved in getting the potion into the vials, because he didn't want to waste a single drop. The small boy was lucky to have steady hands though... he scooped out as much of it as he possibly could, and then carefully sealed the vials, leaving one for himself to test. As neatly as he could, Jaemin wrote his name, house, and year on a sticker, blowing on it to make the ink dry before putting it on the vial and jumping to his feet again.
Delivery to Professor Oldton! He bounced up to the front and set the vial down with the other students', letting his gaze linger on the man for a moment before he spoke.
"Other people are trying their potions so I'm gonna try mine too. Okay?" He wasn't going to give the man chance to object though, and he immediately bounded back to his seat and snatched up the vial he'd left open. DOWN THE HATCH IT GOOOOOOOES.
He swallowed it as fast as he could, then waited. Grown-up Jaemin, here we come!

Rula was half-paying attention to her stirring, half-daydreaming about what she would look like as an adult, so once she noticed the liquid was bubbling, she wasn't entirely sure if it had just started or if it had been longer. Oh well. It'd still be okay, right?
Either way, she added the gross hairy fungus, set her little timer for ten minutes, and used her opposite hand to stir this time because her right arm was TIRED, okay? Both her arms were probably going to be exhausted by the end of this lesson.
But anyway, she went back to her daydream of her adult self. How pretty was she going to be? How tall was she going to be? She was already about 5'8", so how much more would she grow? Another inch or two? Would she reach 6 feet? (Well, actually, hopefully not THAT tall, because then she wouldn't like wearing high heels as much since they'd make her even taller, and she really didn't want to tower over everyone.) Was she gonna be all mature and awesome and graceful and elegant?
What would her hair look like? Would she still keep it long? Or make it a little shorter? More shoulder-length? Or even shorter than that? Oooohh, maybe she should try those out even now! Although she did like her long hair, so maybe just charm it shorter instead of actually cutting it. Just so she could change it back to normal if she didn't like it. Hopefully she would like different hairstyles though. It was probably important for models to be able to pull off different styles sometimes, right?
She continued to picture herself in various hairstyles until, eventually, the beeping of the timer jolted her out of her thoughts.
Oh, right, potion making. So what was the next step?
Well the mixture needed to be a light purple-brown color...which it seemed to be. Maybe a little more purple than brown though. That was fine though, probably. Maybe.
Anyway, next step.
Continue stirring and add the tortoise shell. Eight minutes now. Better than ten minutes, at least...?
Rula switched hands again, added the powdered shell, and set the timer for eight minutes.
Back to her imagined hairstyles again.

~ 2g Hairy fungus, mashed (w/ mortar & pestle)
~ 2g Tortoise Shell, powdered (w/ mortar & pestle)
~ 5g Caterpillar, sliced (thin enough to keep slices from falling apart)
~ 1 Bat Tongue, diced (cut length-wise, then dice)
Instructions
1. Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.
2. Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice (medium flame), and begin stirring clockwise until you can just see bubbles starting to form. (The mixture will be dark purple/brown)
3. Immediately add the hairy fungus and continue to stir clockwise for ten minutes. (The mixture will slowly fade to a lighter purple/brown)
4. Continuing to stir clockwise, add the tortoise shell. (The mixture will be a creamy color)
5. After eight minutes, remove the cauldron from the heat and add the caterpillar and bat tongue, making sure to continue to stir the solution in a clockwise motion for five minutes, until it changes to a creamy green colour.
6. As the potion cools, it will turn emerald green. Once it is completely cooled (about fifteen to twenty minutes), you may cease dispense the potion into appropriate vials for storage.
Characteristics: Emerald Green Level: Advanced Information: The effects are dosage based; the more ingested, the older one will age

"Th-thank you Mr Bronwyn," Art said to the young Prefect who handed the ingredients out for the students to observe.
So Mr Solo DID want to be as old as Art was? He nodded. He watched the young man fetch the potion, and Art held it up to the light. "This is the antidote. I need plenty of it around if-if students want to st-start to uhh... try their potion. Thank you Mr Solo!" Especially if this one young man wanted
Art looked down at the young girl in alarm. What had HAPPENED? She was Miss Haddie Denaker, there was no mistaking that, but she was YOUNG. She was supposed to be OLD! And the poor young lady was frightened... Great SCOTT in Asgard! This was not what he had been hoing for the first lesson of term. And Miss Kitty Valentine was there, a reaction JUST as Art had predicted. Utter SHOCK. But he wasn't about to ask all of the other questions... He listened to Miss Moss, who was in a right panic over the effect of the potion. He shook his head once she had spoken "Miss Moss it-it is al-alright, y-you're n-not to-to blame at all." Miss Denaker was just... not particularly gifted in potions. He wasn't about to say that out loud though. Nor could he ASK her what she had done differently... she probably wouldn't remember!
AND THEN SHE WAS OUT! "WAIT!" Art yelled after her. Where was she going? He looked around, half freaking out, because there was NO way he was going to be successful in catching up with her. Not in this body. Thankfully Miss Lynch was there, asking if she would be able to go after her. Art nodded. "Yes, best an older student. And Miss Moss too." He took the antidote to the aging potion out of his pocket and gave it to them. "Wh-when you find her, gi-give her th-this, it's the-the antidote," he said.
He turned to both Miss Kitty Valentine and Miss Darcy and said "No, I th- I think Miss Lynch and Miss Moss will be-be able to get her," he said, though it was very nice of them to offer to go after the young Miss Denaker. He didn't want to lose any MORE students.
"We just st-store it in a dark, cool place. Err a-a pantry does the job. But in the body it-it only lasts a few hours, t-twelve maximum if brewed correctly. If-If there's something wrong with it, then it-it mi-might uhhh it might last longer." In which case the antidote was sufficient to reverse the effects. Mr Fletcher was full of questions that Art was very happy answering. Curious minds were a GREAT tool.
Art whipped his wand out and vanished the potion that Miss Abby Valentine had spilled. Clumsy old girl, she was. A bit like Art! And now she was OLD! Art grinned, the potion was WORKING. Why was she asking for help, though? "Are you okay Miss Valentine?" he asked her, hobbling towards her area.
Art watched Miss Stevens use MAGIC to stir her potion, which of course was an option but never one that Art himself went for. He nodded towards Miss Kitty Valentine, and said "I'll have to be m-more specific next time, won't I?"
THANK MERLIN was all Art could think as Miss Kettleburn skipped off, ready to get started. He rubbed his face, glad that was all over.
Mr Scabior was taking a bit of time getting his notes done. Art was starting to worry he would run out of time to brew his potion! But it wasn't JUST Mr Scabior, but also Mr Prince, who seemed quite happy standing there and... observing.
Miss Darcy hit the nail on the head! He nodded "I did, I t-took some of the potion I made earlier. I d-don't know it it was-was a good idea..." he was still thinking about that, actually...
He let a chuckle out as Mr Baltazar got busy with his work. His methods and his little division made the old man laugh, indeed. And Mr Chev was there, methodically giving himself breaks in between the tortoise shell powdering, which was indeed a good move.
The potion he saw Mr Bellaire put into the vial was... interesting. He just... nodded. "Err...g-good... good work Mr Bellaire," he found himself saying. "M-maybe n-next time we could uhh... could try to uhh... pay a bit more attention to the t-task at hand ra-rather than a little rest, eh?" he said.
"Thank you Miss Kennedy," Art said to the young second year who gave him a vial of her potion. He glanced at the colour and saw that it was a nice emerald green, but... no, that Miss Kennedy was not the same one that had come into his classroom. He chuckled. Oh she HAD taken some? "Well y-yes I do believe it did," he commented.
"Thank you Miss Guidry," Art said to the next student to hand in her potion. A vial of what looked to be a lovely emerald green. He gave her a smile "Well done."
"Thank you Miss Atwater, you did a very good job today." Praise after a first lesson and all. What a difficult lesson for the first years. Art was very pleased with the work they had been able to do, though.
Art was about to thank the next student, who brought up a vial of light green potion, and asked if he could take some for later. Art hesitated... "I-I'll analyse it f-first and then gi-give it back to you if-if it's okay," he said. He didn't want Mr Thomas-Borzekowski to take this potion... but maybe... if would... change colour over time? Art doubted that but stranger things had happened.
"Thank you M-Mr Song," Art said, collecting his vial of emerald green potion. But no sooner had he handed it in than he decided to take some of the potion, AND ran back to his desk and... just swallowed it. Just like that. Art closed his mouth and decided that there was NOTHING he could do to have stopped him. He kept a close eye on him though. Him and all the other students who had ingested the potion. There was a LOT of the antidote, and... hopefully this was a controlled enough environment...
First year Slytherin, Miss Diggory was there, trying to cast the scouring charm. Art didn't believe she had ever cast it, so he hobbled over to the young lady. "Try saying SKUR-ji-fy," he said, putting emphasis on the SKUR part.
A FIREBALL got Art's attention, and Mr Jones tried, and eventually succeeded in extiguishing it. "Great SCOTT, Mr Jones!" he commented, making his slow way over to the boy. He heard him ask about the cauldron. Art peered inside but he, too, wasn't sure. Out came his wand, "Reparo," he said, doing the almost swirly shape wand movement. "It should be good now."
OOC: Sorry for the late reply. Class will be open for another 24-ish hours, so you still have time to get started, even if it's just ONE MEGA POST. And thank you EVERYONE, I am having a blast reading through all of your posts.

Right. Professor Newton HAD taken the potion and didn't want her and Kitty to go after Haddie. She would have LIKED to but she could see his reasoning. However, he hadn't given her any insight on what to do about her potion.
Looking at the clock as she still stirred she saw that TWELVE minutes had passed instead of the required TEN. "Do I need to start my potion over since it's been an extra two minutes, or can I fix it?" This wasn't turning out so well for her, was it?

Fiyero felt terrible. He really hadn't meant to cause trouble for Professor Newton! "Sorry, Professor," he said sheepishly, staring at the floor. "I'd never done that spell before..." well, at least he knew his cauldron was safe now. "And thanks for fixing my cauldron," he added.
After preparing his ingredients (again), Fiyero was ready to start brewing. He measured the red wine and prune juice into his cauldron before pointing his wand at the burner. He had the water spell he'd learned in Herbology in the back of his mind, just in case he had to put out another fire, but to his relief, no rogue flames shot up this time. Thank Merlin! He'd had enough accidents for one day!He checked his notes again:

Ingredients
100ml Red Wine
10ml Prune Juice
2g Hairy fungus, mashed
2g Tortoise Shell, powdered
5g Caterpillar, sliced
1 Bat Tongue, diced
Instructions Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.
Characteristics: Emerald Green

Stir clockwise... got it. Fiyero absentmindedly stirred the cauldron for several minutes, switching hands from time to time as they got tired. He didn't think this thing was ever going to bubble! Just when he was ready to quit and write this potion off as a lost cause, he saw a few bubbles beginning to form. Finally! What's next?

Fiyero blinked. Ten minutes?! Wow, that seemed like a long time to stir, but nevermind... He added the fungus to the mixture and stirred... and stirred... and stirred. He was sooooo bored! It seemed like Professor Newton could put on some music or something. Anything was better than sitting around like this!
He thought he was going to be stirring forever, but eventually the ten minutes had passed. He looked inside the cauldron. Was that color lighter than it had been before? He thought so. Now what? He looked at his notebook. Tortoise shell. Okay. And MORE STIRRING?!

Art was starting to get a bit flustered, what with older students and... young runaway students. But of course, this was POTIONS.
He looked to Miss Darcy and felt his mind go blank. "You can-can start again if you wish or-or you could try and fix it. You could uhhh... could end up making it worse by tr-trying to fix it..." but he knew there was a lot of effort in starting to prepare the ingredients from scratch and start again.

Partway through a chapter, Brooklyn glanced up to check the time, along with simply because chaos seemed to be going on yet again. Somehow potions class seemed to attract it, but that was why she always tried to stay away from the accident-prone people. That and she always tried to make sure she brewed the potions perfectly, or as perfectly as possible. The memory of the poisoning last term was still fresh in her mind after all. She would rather not have that happen again, and something told her Professor Newton wouldn’t want that either. It still didn’t make her trust him any more than before, but as long as she stayed intact she could tolerate him.
However, noticing that nearly twenty minutes had passed, she closed the book and placed it back in her bag, collecting a vial from her kit at the same time. Time to check and see if her potion was cooled, and, glancing into her cauldron, the emerald green color seemed to tell her it was. She wasn’t waiting any longer either way. Carefully collecting some of the potion in the vial, she closed it up tightly and quickly labeled it with her name, house and year. As usual. After that, she simply vanished the rest of the potion. She wasn’t about to try it. They’d been told they didn’t have to, and unlike the younger students, she didn’t particularly have any curiosity about being older. She’d get there eventually anyhow.
Bringing her vial up to the professor, she set it down carefully. Now to go clean up her workstation, and maybe she’d just read some more until they were officially done with the lesson.

Okay. so stirring her potion was really boring. She did not like that at all. But it was necessary. So she carried on. But Harriet made a mental note to research, or just ask her older brother to teach her the charm to make the stirrer stir itself. She knew that would make potion making much easier, and she wanted to make things easier. It would also be good to learn more magic. Then she would be able to get on with doing the other things, whilst the potion was stirring itself.
She concentrated though, no humming this time, as she stirred because she wanted to make sure she did it right. "Ooh. Yay!" The first year beamed as some bubbles started to form. It was working! That was good. She wasn't sure how much she had stirred, but it was starting to turn a browny color, and according to her notes that was the right color. So she figured she must be doing something right.
Ceasing her stirring she turned back to look at her notes, so she could do the next step of the potion. "Add hairy fungus....and continue to stir for 10 minutes...clockwise. Ugh. Not more stirring" She girl grumbled, as she picked up the hairy fungus, and put it carefully into her potion. Pouting, the first year picked up her stirrer and began to stir her potion again. This time keeping a good eye on the clock. She did not want to go over the 10 minutes! She was positive that would not be a good thing to do at all!
So stir stir stir. This was going to be a fun 10 minutes.

DING she’d heard it…and well, luckily she knew no one else had what with the brilliance of the charmed egg-timers she had purchased for her potions kit. Melbourne looked down at her potion and grinned to herself as she saw just how brilliantly emerald green it looked.
Taking what looked like a turkey baster, because indeed it was one, she began working. Well, not that she ever stopped working. The Gryffindor squeezed the top and watched it fill with liquid before she began filling the vials one at a time with the liquid until all of her single-dosage vials were filled…still; she had more potion left and larger vials to fill.
Looking at the vials she quickly pulled out two of each of her vials just to be safe. Finally she had emptied all of her potion into the vials. She had quite a lot of them…two half-dosages, six full dosages, two double dosages, and two triple dosages, and even a few triple-dosages…everything was perfect. Maybe this way she could see how she would look when she was older right? That could be fun?

Stir. Stir. Stir.
Okay. She was bored now. She did not like stirring at all. She got why she needed to do it. It was important. But it was also very boring. Her arm was also hurting. It just made it all the more obvious that she really needed to learn how to do that charm. She was determined to learn that charm. After she worked out what the charm was anyway. So that was that. But still back to the stirring. 10 minutes felt like a long time. She looked up, looking at her class mates. Oh Skylar was dicing something. Hadn't she thought to do it at the start? Oh. That's what Hattie had done. She had figured it was easier to dice, mash and get all the ingredients properly prepared at the start, before she began. She'd decided it would make things simpler when she was brewing the potion. Harriet decided to tell Sky about that for next time.
Okay. It had to have been 10 minutes now. She looked up at the clock, frowning a little. She couldn't remember what time she had started. Oh well. Must be 10 minutes now.
She stopped stirring and looked at her notes. "Okay...so it's kinda of a light brown color. Kinda...." She mused, tilting her head to the side. "Next step... Add tortoise shell.... and another 8 minutes stirring! So much stirring" The girl sighed, shaking her head as she placed the shell into the potion.
"Oh pretty color!" She mused as her potion went a kind of creamy color. It still looked a little brown, but was certainly going cream. "Now back to stirring" The girl sighed, as she picked up her stirrer and began to stir. again

After a grueling eight minutes, Fiyero looked at his potion again. It had turned cream-colored just like his notes said it would. This was going a lot better than he'd expected. So now what was he supposed to do? He consulted his notes:

Fiyero removed his cauldron from the burner, taking extra care not to burn himself - or accidentally start another fire. Time to add the caterpillars and bat tongue and - WHAT?! Even more Stirring... He inwardly groaned. This stirring was quickly becoming his least favorite part of Potions class!
He sighed. Back to the boring part, he thought as he continued to stir. His hand felt like it was going to fall off by the time five minutes had ticked by, but when he checked the caudron, he saw that the mixture hadn't turned green yet. He did everything the instructions said, so why in Merlin's name wasn't it changing color? Come on! Turn green, you stupid thing!
Fiyero thought for a minute. Maybe even more stirring would fix it.. so he picked up his stirrer again. He was about ready to write this potion off as a lost cause when - finally! - he started to notice a change in color, subtle at first but slowly becoming more pronounced, He suddenly had to stifle a giggle as he realized that the creamy-green mixture in front of him looked a lot like a pot of boogers!
He glanced at his notebook again and saw he was almost done. YAAAAY, no more stirring! He still had some time to kill before the Potion cooled, but at least now he could do something fun. He pulled the latest issue of Quidditch International out of his bag, quickly becoming engrossed in an article about his favorite team, the Ballycastle Bats.
After a while, Fiyero looked up at the clock. Had it been twenty minutes already? Well, he supposed it was true that time flies when you're having fun. He selected a clean vial from his potions kit and carefully ladled some of the Aging Potion into it. He hastily scribbled his name on a label:
Quote:
Fiyero Jones
First Year
Gryffindor
He held up the vial and inspected it for a minute. The potion had turned green, but he wasn't sure it was emerald green. He supposed it would have to do. The thought crossed his mind to test it out, but he decided against it. He'd already had one mishap today; he didn't want to cause another!
With a triumphant smile, Fiyero set his completed potion on Professor Newton's desk. He couldn't believe it... He actually did it! There were a few minor hiccups along the way, and he'd wanted to give up a few times, but he kept at it and managed to finish without anything bad happening. He was so proud of himself!
