This is the room next to the storeroom. It is smaller than the classroom. There are twenty working stations. Outside its door stands a rostrum with a notebook on it. You have to sign your name, the date and hour of your entrance before entering the laboratory.
This is a laboratory for students to practise their potions brewing. There is a cupboard that holds every equipment that might be needed during brewing: cauldron, pestle and mortar, wooden and metal sticks, phials, to name a few. Don't forget to borrow protective dragon hide gloves, robes and googles if you forgot to bring yours.
On the board, there writes the rules in a neat, big-sized writing:
Write your name, the date and hour of your entrance.
Clean your station before starting and after you've finished.
Don't forget to take the necessary precautions for your safety: Wear dragon hide gloves, protective robes and googles at all times. I am not responsible if you are injured here.
Do not test your potion on others or on yourself unless approved by me.
To brew a potion with me, you have to schedule it with me first. Otherwise, call me only in an emergency.
The class opens at 8.00 AM and will close at 9.00 PM. Please finish your potions until then or notify me first before starting a potion that will take longer than 13 hours to brew.
OOC: This is not a class. I will not hold classes here. This thread is for role-playing and fun, and will remain open all term long. You don't have to specify the exact date and hour. You just RP your character signing the notebook and start having fun!

After signing in with the required information, Adi eagerly bounded into the familiar Potions Lab. He selected a workstation then got around to setting up and cleaning the cauldron. He had the other equipment a the ready too but he would clean them as the potion brewing went on.
In addition, the Hufflepuff set out textbook, quill and protective gear. With the exception of his protective robes as he had already slipped it on. Now all he needed was Professor Culloden. Figuring the man would be a while since he had three students (and who knew if more appeared at the Office) to deal with, Adi flipped open his text book and began to read. Why waste time when he could cram a bit of studying in there?
After he was done with the students that wanted to visit him, Cosgrach closed his office and made his way to the laboratory.
"Hello, Adi!" he greeted the boy cheerfully, and was pleased to see that the boy had already laid out all that they would need. He sat down on a stool facing the boy. As they would have LOTS of time for small talk, he directly got down to business.

"Do you remember what we talked last term?"
Adi had made himself quite comfortable in the Lab. As a matter of fact, he had quite forgotten he was there... that was, until Professor Cosgrach arrived.
He looked around from his text book at the greeting. "Hi, Professor!'' Cosgrach was in a good mood, wasn't he? Good. Working with cheerful Professors was a whole lot easier because they in turn made the students feel calm. "Er, sorry about having barging down your office so soon.'' But he couldn't help it. Surely Professor Cool understood that.
Pushing his glasses up, Adi nodded. "We talked about Felix Felicis. Its use, disadvantage of using too much and how often the ingredients should be added.''
Cosgrach smiled and waved his hand off. "I'd be pretty excited for felix felicis too," he said, "so you're fine." Then, when Adi pushed his glasses up, he looked as if he was seeing them for the first time. "Are they new?" Or was he that careless? He hoped not.
Anyway.
"I hope you remember that we add one ingredient every month on the same day, hour and minute. Then, we wait in the last month." Yeah? It was pretty straightforward. He opened his arms as if to gesture, and also said "Let's begin, then."

Phew! He was safe then. Adi could bet that other Professors would have been super annoyed with him. Thank Merlin the Potions Master was this awesome. Oh, the specs. "Yes. I got them over the summer because coming down to the end of last term, I got really bad headaches when there was too much light around.'' His specs had a sort of tint over the lenses to help with that.
The Puffer nodded as he looked down at the book in which he had made the notes in from when he and Culloden had had their talk last. "I'll be sure to keep meticulous track of everything, Professor.'' Yes, yes, yes! Adi was SO determined to do that. Nothing was going to stop him from getting the potion right. He wasn't going to let the Potions man down.
Annnnd... FINALLY!
Let the brewing begin! "I'm all set, Professor." Equipment were at the ready.
Oh, good thing they were new. "Sorry for ya," he said. Wearing glasses at his age must be terrible, he bet, but they made him look clever as well. Hmm.
Anyway.
"I can see that," he said and laughed, "so go on. Fill the cauldron with water and add the ashwinder egg, then immediately the horseradish, check your clock and start the fire. Are your equipment all cleaned?"

He bet, but it didn't hurt asking.
"They aren't so bad. Except when they decide to slide down my nose.'' Hehe. But that didn't happen regularly and honestly, he had gotten used to wearing the thing.
Awesomeee! Time to get brewing! Adi jumped up from his seat. As he held his wand, he shook his head. "Just the cauldron so far. Aguamenti!'' He waited patiently until the cauldron was filled then... "Finite!''
Next up, grabbed the Ashwinder egg from the stash of ingredients for the potion then added in with the water followed by the horseradish. Now, the eager Hufflepuff checked his watch then jotted down the time in his notebook. Of course he could keep a mental track of things but he was going to be VERY careful here not to screw things up.
Adi pointed his wand at the burner beneath the cauldron. "Incendio!'' Cue the corresponding wand movement and there was one lit burner. The first few steps were down!
Cosgrach bet, because when he wore his reading glasses, he had the same problem.
Anyway, brewing tiiiiiiiime!
Oh, made sense, because today they would only use that. He nodded, then craned his neck forward with a very concentrated expression not to miss his moves. He nodded at his movements and smiled once the boy was done.
"That was aaaaall right," he said, "so now, we have a whole month to wait." He got up to leave. "Send me an owl to remind me the time one day before, would ya?" Not that Cosgrach would forget it, his brain was obsessive with potions, but just in case.

Awesomeee!
Adi was super pleased he had done well so far. But still... there were loads more stuff that needed to be taken care of. Which were being reminded by Culloden right now. Send him an owl? Wouldn't Culloden be more pleased to see his eager, bespectacled face at his office each month? Hehe. Maybe not.
"I sure will, Professor,'' Adi remarked, deciding he'd use Conrad, Benny's owl. Checking his watch, he noted the time in his book: 12:41. Next to that, Adi noted the date when the next ingredient would be added: exactly one month from now.
Cosgrach grinned at the boy, mentally noted 12.41 as well, and opened the door to exit.
"I must say: Keeping the flame at this level is also your duty." Cosgrach WOULD be looking at it, but just so this was a real experience for Adi and not just 'Visit the dungeons once a month' sort of thing. "See ya later." With that, the man waved and exited...
-ONE MONTH LATER-
Cosgrach didn't have a class in the morning that day, so he could have lunch early, and was at the laboratory exactly at 12.30. He examined the colour of the potion, and once he was pleased with that, he sat down to wait for Adi, who would be here soon to prepare the next ingredient, right?

Ever since the first day of adding the first ingredients, Adi had been coming back twice a day to make sure that the flame was level and during that time, it had remained so. So far so good.
The day before the one month would have expired, the Hufflepuff had borrowed Conrad from Benny to send a reminder to Culloden, though admittedly the task had almost slipped from his mind because he had a lot going on.
However, he did remember to arrive at the lab before 12:41. Unknown to him, he arrived a minute or so after Culloden. "Hi, Professor,'' Adi said the moment he saw the man. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long.'' He wasn't the usual bouncy Puffer today... nor had he been so for a few days but he got to work, checking the flames once more (even though he had done so before classes that day) then setting about retrieving his equipment and making sure his safety robes were on properly.
Cosgrach smiled at the boy when he came, and didn't realise his tone was slightly amiss. He was glad to see him putting on the safety gear right away. "Nah, I'd just arrived," he said, and gestured at the cauldron. "I'd chat, but I don't want to distract you."

Right. He was ready for the next step. Adi didn't mind Professor Culloden not wanting to chat much today. He wasn't in the mood either. "Everything seems to be alright, Professor,'' he told the man in a flat tone. "I read the next step would be to add squill bulb juice.'' After which he would have to stir.
That was the step... right? At least Adi thought so but he had been distracted a lot recently.
Cosgrach only vaguely noticed the flat tone, and paused for a moment, but the shrugged to himself. Maybe Adi was just grumpy because this was basically his lunch break. Well. He only had to be here for another five minutes or so anyway.
"That's right," he said, "and then you stir until your arm can't move anymore."

Adi nodded. See? He had gotten it right. AJ hadn’t managed to make him loose himself… not yet anyway. The Puffer focused on using the Scouring Charm on the necessary equipment before juicing the squill bulb into a small bowl (also Scourgified).
“Have to check the time,’’ he said to himself but loud enough so that the Professor heard. He had one minute to spare and he stood clutching the bowl of juice, both eyes on his watch. “12:41!” In went the juice. Time for the stirring!
Adi picked up his recently cleaned stirrer. “Professor, do I stir clockwise or counter clockwise?” Or didn’t it matter?
Cosgrach nodded to himself when Adi cleaned the equipment he'd use. The boy had a good potioneers instinct. When he announced he had to check the time, the man also looked at his watch, and liked it that Adi had done everything aaaall correct so far.
"Clockwise," he said and folded his arms to watch the boy.

Adi smiled a bit. "Thanks.'' Culloden was so patient. Sticking the stirrer into the cauldron, the Hufflepuff began to stir in the clockwise direction.
Stir, stir, stir, stir, stir, stir!
"Er, did you really mean stir until I can't stir anymore? Like until my arms feel like they'll fall off?" This somewhat amused the boy for some strange reason. It was unusual for a potion not to have a particular amount of stirs required.
Cosgrach grinned at Adi and nodded. "Exactly. But only the arm you've begun stirring. Don't switch arms." This was Felix Felicis, a potion that dealt with the unknown, so it required some 'unknown'.
"Your arm will get tired far sooner than imagined at that pace." Just saying. Cosgrach, himself, couldn't keep the pace for longer than a minute.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi shook his head. He was using his left hand to stir which made sense as he was left handed. And he couldn't switch! "This is a good work out then,'' he said as more vigorous stirring went on. "If I can't lift my arm to write or use my wand in my next class, Professor, you'll have to back me up with my explanation.'' Ah, jokes. They could never leave Adi even when he was down.
The Badger nodded. "My upper arm is feeling the pressure already.'' Though is wasn't that bad all thanks to the cricket training and matches played over the summer.
More stirring for about four to five minutes later did start to make his arm worse though. "Reckon I still got some more energy left in me for this,'' Adi told Culloden. Another five minutes maybe?
Cosgrach laughed shortly at Adi. "Of course, Adi," he said jokingly, "I'm sending a note to the professors right now." Hehehe. Cosgrach was impressed with his stamina. He would never be able to keep that up, except for when he was a beater. "Take your time," he said somewhat dreamily. He was reminiscing his youth.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi grinned and shook his head. It was often one had a Professor that joked back. The Puffer continued to stir, his arms tiring a tad more with each one. But hey, he'd been stirring for quite a while.
....................
And finally he could stir no more! No, no... strike that. His arms could do NOTHING at all. Not until they got a good, long rest. "I think I'm done here, Professor.'' Adi gingerly removed the stirrer, wincing a bit as the muscles of his arms protested. "Is there any particular reason why this Potion requires that the stirring be different from usual potions?''
The Hufflepuff was determined to continue doing everything right so he grabbed his Hippogriff feather core wand to clean the stirrer and the other equipment he had used earlier.
Cosgrach was pleased as Adi did another step correctly. At his question, he simply shrugged. "To create luck you need to work hard, Adi." Made sense? Hehe. He got up. "Shall we call it a day?"
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi nodded. "I guess that's true.'' Some things just required a bit of harder work. Anyway, he was quite okay with giving his best. "Sure, Professor. I'll see you around.'' He smiled a bit then checked the flames of the burner to make sure it was okay before he left.
Another Month Later
Another month, another day to add an ingredient to his liquid luck in the making. Protective gear on, the Social Badger checked the burner's flames for what seemed like the millionth time. "Everything's okay,'' he thought, very much pleased. He looked at this watch. There were ten minutes left before the next ingredient could be added so Culloden should be there soon.
Cosgrach appeared a minute or so later with a tray of freshly baked cookies.
"Hey, Adi!" he greeted him cheerfully, "ready for today?" This professor sure was! "I got these for ya from the elves." Those liked hard working humans, and Adi was making the world's one of hardest potions. He deserved everything.
Setting the tray down, he moved to inspect the potion. After a minute or so, he was pleased with everything.
