Default Office of Professor Foster Davis

Upon entering, you immediately notice the smell of leather and wood oil. Straight cross the room sits a large oak desk with a pair of leather wingback chairs in front of it. Behind the desk, sits a rather large bookshelf, with books in perfect order. Not one is out of place.

To your left is a small sitting area, with plush chairs and a little rolling cart stacked with various cookies and tea cakes. A pot of hot water is always ready for tea making. No coffee or hot chocolate will be found.

To your right is a large fireplace with a small seating area before it. The chairs by the fireplace don’t appear to be as plush as the tea area, but you will find they are the perfect place to sit and read for hours.

Once invited in, please make yourself at home. Professor Davis loves visitors.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

The first thing that Dorian noticed was the smell of leather and something he couldn't identify at the moment as he entered the office. The second thing was the large bookshelf behind the desk and although he wasn't a big reader himself (he prefered text books and comic books) he did appreciate a nice aesthetically pleasing bookshelf. Perhaps it was because he had gotten used to the bookshelves in the common room.

"You really won't get in to trouble by helping me out right?" he asked yet again as he turned right. The small sitting area with the large fire place looked cosy enough and he chose the chair closest to the fire. "Did you know that muggles have these kind of packages that they throw in a fire to make it a different color?" he asked as he sat down.

Foster followed Dorian in, pausing to allow the young man a moment to look around. "Don't you worry one bit about me. It's my job to help the students in any way I can." He took a seat across from Dorian, leaning towards the warmth of the fire. "Plus, I actually enjoy practicing charms and spells. It can be a bit dull always working with numbers."

"I didn't know about those. It sounds quite lovely." He made a quick mental note to track down one of those packages and have it sent to Professor Stewart. He thought the former Muggle Studies professor would get a kick out of a muggle color changing fireplace package. "Don't let me forget to give you the book before you leave." He pointed to the large brown leather covered book sitting on the edge of his desk. It was well worn, obviously read many times, and appeared to be far older than both of their ages combined.

Foster leaned back in his chair, giving Dorian a few more moments to relax. Being stressed and on edge was not the way to start practicing. A calm body and mind would be far better able to master their objectives.

Although the Ravenclaw still had his doubts, he decided to trust him for now and nodded his head. Even if he still looked somewhat worried. What he said next made him look away from the fire and he raised an eyebrow. Did the Arithmancy Professor just say that he thought that numbers could become dull? He couldn't help it, he let out a laugh which he quickly masked as a cough. Force of habit these days. "I quite enjoy working with numbers" he said with a shrug of his shoulders. But he only had to work with them few times a week...not all day.

At the mention of the book, Dorian leaned a bit to the side so he could look over to the desk to which the Professor was pointing at. And he couldn't hide his disappointment on his face once he saw how old and worn out it looked. "...well i guess i can't read it in the library..." he was sure that the librarian was not going to appreciate the worn out and obviously falling apart soon book. "But..eh...thanks?"

After a few moments of looking around in silence, Dorian began to tap his fingers on the seat in a unconscious rhythm. Had the Professor forgotten why he was here? Should he ask? Or was that rude?

Foster caught the half laugh half cough from Dorian and a small grin crossed his face. He wanted him to know that there was more to being a professor than the single subject taught. "Don't get me wrong, I do love numbers. But, I also have other interests. Just like I assume you like a wide variety of activities."

Noticing the less than thrilled look on Dorian's face he quickly added "Don't be fooled by the age of the book. It's well worn for a reason. Many witches and wizards have gained a lot from what's inside. Plus, haven't you ever heard to not judge a book by it's cover?" He chuckled a bit and shook his head. "I won't be offended if you decide to not read it."

With the matter of the book taken care of, Foster gently slapped both legs with his hands. "So, are you ready to get to it? What do you need the most practice on, and I'll get the room set up to best help?" He stood just as he finished speaking and began to send silent spells around the room, sending a few breakables up to higher shelves and moving the larger chairs towards the back wall.
