Since 1971, this infamous plant has kept it's reputation for not favouring visitors. The Whomping Willow is an extremely violent tree that will attack anything and anyone that comes within range of its branches. A deciduous plant, its limbs function as arms and any damage to them must be treated in the same way and more. So unless you want to spend most of your time in the Hospital Wing being treated, it's best to keep your distance.
He was grinning when going to view this beauty in all its glory. Maybe it is due to the fact that idiots can go up to it, knowing they could get hurt and they wanna push their limits anyways. He knew he would be that idiot today. He sat down a few paces away from any intentional harm and began to practice his spells he needed to learn for class. Or you know what he was gonna do it for fun. He got his wand out and pointed at a little branch on the willow...

"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Nope nothing happened. Hmmm he wondered why.
Dora was sitting JUST out of reach of the branches watching everyone. WATCHING THEM! Mostly because people getting hurt made her laugh, but you know... whatever. Hehe. But Colt had caught her attention and kept it. Mostly because he was cute, but also because he had his wand out.
"That won't work." Like seriously! Hadn't even anyone thought of that before?? What was he thinking?!

Colt was just practicing and he turned around and noticed Dora made her entrance. "Look at you being the bearer of bad news." He was just teasing her of course. "I was just practicing my spells and all. I am a little rusty. You still going to do the dueling club this term?" He wanted to kick some butt. I mean it would be friendly competition and all. "What do you think of the new Professors this term?"

"I do my best," she said with a grin. She quite enjoyed crushing dreams and the like. Ha! Practicing spells? "Then you have to find something else to practice on than an animate tree, you know."
"I don't know. Maybe?" she said with a questioning lilt. She was unsure... of a lot right now. "And I don't know how I feel about the Professors. What do you think?"

Colt rolled his eyes at her cockiness. "Well you do succeed. Why not practice on an animated tree? Gives me more of a challenge.." He didn't want to tell her she was right. Kind of a macho thing. "Well then can I practice the spells on you then?" he asked with a sly grin. He couldn't wait for her answer to this one. "Well I think you should do the dueling club. It is really chill and it taught me a lot. I mean the Professor was weird though. He put in a groups with the younger kids which wasn't fair. He put me with 1st and 2nd years. I mean my winning didn't say much. Maybe I will be able to verse you.." He was picturing their duel and it could be pretty intense.
"Well I think the professors are kind of chill. I like the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. He seems enthusiastic about his topic. My old teacher back in durm was so boring. He didn't have any enthusiasm." Ugh those lessons were torture.

Dora saw that eye roll and gave him one right back! Fool! Hmph!
"I dare you to try it! I'll disarm you in moments." She had already unholstered her wand as she was talking. Like really, bring it, bro! #GRYFFINDOR
And the dueling club... She was unsure. She felt she had an unfair advantage over most second years and would decimate idiot boys like Colt... "And maybe you would cry because a little girl beat you," she said in a sing song voice. Because really... Dora Kennedy Umbridge was kind of a big deal!
"The new DADA professor isn't Sabel." Nuff said? Yep.
Of all the dangerous plants that could be found at the school, the Whomping Willow was the one that fascinated him most. Frankie knew that there were dangerous things like Devil's Snare and Venomous Tentacula in the greenhouses, but the willow trumped them all. It was so vicious, and naturally it was a beautiful thing to any daring Gryffindor.
The prefect, having some spare time before his next class, decided that he'd pay the tree a visit. After all these years, he still hadn't found that knot that was allegedly at the base of it. Though that was mostly due to the fact he wasn't willing to go at it alone. That did not prevent him from admiring the tree from a far and scouting out where that little knot could potentially be. He was bound to notice it one of these days and see what it did, right?
But today was not that day. Instead he found a sleeping co-prefect a distance away from the willow.
Rolling his eyes, Frankie walked over to the boy and gave him a nudge with his shoe. "You know, there's a hag running about around here. I bet she've taken one of your kidneys if she caught you sleeping out here. Or worse." Consider your kidneys and yourself saved, Hugo Foster. You're welcome.
The best advice he could give to any first year was to come and take a nap on the grounds. Next to the lake, to the willow....ANYWHERE. It was good for you. He approved it. Hugo was falling into a deep sleep until...UNTIL someone woke him up.
He opened one eye and saw Frankie. "But if you are here you can protect me and I can keep sleeping" sounded good to him. And now that Frankie mentioned the hag he was glad he haven't seen her. "Is she still here?"
Dora saw that eye roll and gave him one right back! Fool! Hmph!

He saw her doing the eye roll right back. Look at this gryffindor being sassy, he found it amusing. He liked seeing all the girls being different here. Not everyone was the same. Colt raised his eyebrows at her challenge. "Ohhhoo you are SO ON." He didn't dare back down from a challenge. "I mean we could do it here but I think we could get into trouble. I mean my record right now isn't sooo good. My mom might kill me if I get into trouble yet again." She wanted him to be on his best behavior. He didn't want to cause his mother even more stress. She didn't deserve it.
That reminded him, he got out his paper and began to write to his mother. He had to keep her updated. He heard her taunt when he was writing and he chuckled. "Yeahh because my ego is that big huh?" He rolled his eyes and laughed even more. "I wouldn't mind being with the older kids because I want a challenge. With the younger ones it is kind of predictable with what moves they are gonna use. Usually it is expelliarmus or protego which is the basic protection spells but they do work." He wasn't gonna talk trash about them. They saved his life in dueling club at Durmstrang.
He heard her comment and he nodded in agreement. "That is true. Imagine if he was though? I think I would immediately leave the classroom. I would be like peace out.." He held up the peace sign gesture with his hands. "How was your summer by the way? I know we didn't get to talk much since term started.." He wanted to try and catch up with everyone.

Could the tree hear people? Was that even a thing?! Just in case, she was glad she'd given it a compliment. She didn't know if it was because of her or not, but the tree started swaying in another direction after that.
Just then, she heard somebody say her name, and she turned to look behind her. Ohh, look! It was SCARLETT! "Hey, Scarlett!" she said. Checking out the tree? "Oh, yeah...actually I was. It almost killed me five seconds ago, too!" For a dangerous, murderous tree, this place sure was a popular place to hang out. This was the third time Ariadne had been approached since she sat down. "So how's Hufflepuff?" If she remembered correctly, that had been the house the girl had wanted.
"REALLY?!" Scarlett asked, her eyes getting wide. It almost KILLED her?! WHOA! This thing was merciless! "Are you ok?? What happened? Were you trying to find the passage underneath? You know about that, right?" she asked. If not they were TOTALLY going to try and find it - even if Ariadne had almost gotten killed. She'd be fine, right?
"Oh, it's good! We had a painting party and ended up getting in a paint war" she told her with a grin. "How's Slytherin? Guess you were right about going there," she chuckled. Deciding that she wasn't totally ready to attempt going for the passage JUST yet, Scarlett plopped down on the grass, using her Hufflepuff sweater as a guard against the slightly damp grass.

Ariadne looked up at Scarlett and laughed. "Well, I guess I didn't really mean that it almost KILLED me," she said. "It just swayed one of its branches in my direction, so I had to duck." That was probably the least exciting answer Ariadne could have given her, but that was how the story went. "I was just sitting here watching it. I've always heard all kinds of stories about it, so I kind of wanted to see it for myself." She was glad she did, too, because there were a ton of people here! She had gotten kind of bored in the common room by herself.
She nodded in reply to Scarlett's next question. "Of course I know all about it! This tree's a legend! We were actually just talking about it before you walked up," she said. Her eyes widened and she added, "You had a PAINT WAR? Even after the food fight? No way! We got grilled about that food fight at our party." Ariadne STILL hadn't talked to Healer Murdoch either! She made a mental note to do that. "Are you making tons of friends? I'm trying to! That's one of the reasons I'm out of here. It got SUPER boring just sitting in the common room. Nobody else was in there, so I guess they're all out here having fun."

It's probably annoyed by all of us," she laughed. It was true that the tree was probably NOT a fan of all the kids gawking at it. If trees had feelings and everything, which...she thought they did? Maybe? The magical kind did, at least.
"We did! It was SO fun - and we probably got away with it since WE didn't do anything bad at the feast," she joked with a sly grin. Although that hadn't helped their points standing very long - they were already all the way in last. Was she making friends? She nodded with a smile. "I am! My dormmate and I got to decorate all our curtains and stuff the other day - I'm not sure if that's allowed, but no one has said anything about it! How about you? How are the other snakes? Nicer than Murdoch I hope," she said.

The knot forgotten for the time being, the Gryffindor couldn't help but harshly judge his co-prefect's choice of location to take a nap. Why by the willow? It didn't scream the perfect place to have nap time to him.
In fact, not a single place on the grounds was on his own list of places to take a snooze. In the back row during a History of Magic lesson, in the Room of Requirement, by the fireplace in the kitchens with food readily available upon waking -- all excellent choices. By the Whomping Willow or anywhere on the grounds? No. Especially with a hag running about.
The blond couldn't help but snort at what the Slytherin said in response to him. He was to protect Hugo while he slept? No thanks. That certainly was not on the list of things he was to do as a prefect. "I think you'd be better off finding a way to protect yourself. Unless you're giving me payment to keep hags at bay while you sleep outside."
He simply nodded at Hugo's question about the hag. She most certainly was still at the school. Frankie pointed at the direction her tent was on the grounds and muttered, "Her tent's in the middle of the grounds. But Merlin knows if she's there or running around stealing kidneys or eating the first years."

It didn't matter one bit that it was currently November and getting rather chilly outside to Hady. She had made a commitment to a younger girl and she was bound to keeping it. Dressed in rather baggy black sweatpants and an oversized hoodie (the sleeves pushed up to her elbows), her trainers and hair pulled back into a messy braid the fifth year made her way outside onto the grounds.
A light breeze made some of the loose hairs from her braid blow around her face but all was well enough. There was a light bunch in her step and she was more then ready to get going as she arrived at the meeting spot. Just so they didn't get to close to the tree they shouldn't have a problem. Hady glanced around looking for Mason knowing the girl would be arriving any moment now.

Mason had always been rather fond of the cold, but even so, she was shivering her butt off as she made her way across the grounds.
Maybe Mason should have suggested a warmer place, or at least one where a giant kung-Fu tree wasn't just waiting for an opportunity to knock you out.
But even so, Mason was happy that she was finally starting with the lessons. Ever since Hady had offered to teach her back in Diagon Alley, it has been one of the things she had been looking forward to the most.
Mason saw the older girl waiting by the tree and hurried towards her, "Hady!" she said in between the slight clattering of her teeth, "Sorry you had to wait here in the cold."
Mason tugged at the arms of her light-grey sweater, attempting to block out the cold, and pulled her hair into a ponytail. I really should have worn warmer clothes.

Arms folded across her chest and rocking light back and forth on her feet Hady may have also been humming under her breath. She had been waiting for today probably almost as much as Mason was. The kids was so excited way back in the summer and here ito was months later and they were finally getting started. She hadn't meant to wait so long but this was a bit year for herself and she already had so much she'd taken on.
Dancing though was good for her. It cleared her head just like the drums did. Only today she wouldn't be alone. Casting another look around Hady smirked when she spotted the younger snake. "It's okay I've grown used to the cold years ago. You though," she laughed softly shaking her head, "You look like you're freezing!" Poor kid.
Pulling her wand from the holster on her wrist she whispered an incantation while pointing it at Mason. A heating charm was all it was. Something to help her younger friend stay warmer then what she was. "Shall we just go over some steps or you want some music to go along with it?" Either way she was fine with it.

"Oh you now, only an eetzy-weenzy bit," she said and rubbed her arms on an attempt to warm herself.
A surge of heat erupted over Mason's goosebump-covered-skin, warming her more than her clothes ever could. A heating-spell, Mason knew. Her clattering teeth and shivers instantly subsided, leaving her warm and fuzzy.
Mason have her older friend a grateful smiled, "Thanks a bunch Hady! I'm just glad you didn't set me on fire." Even the fire would have been welcome.
Mason bit her lip and scrunched up her nose, "Urmm, I'm pretty terrible," she said honestly, "I think that it would be better for me to earn the steps before even attempting to do it with music."
Mason was sure that she was going to make a fool out of herself, but she was honestly too excited to even care.

Hady must just be one of those that enjoyed the cold weather. The slight breeze was refreshing and cleared her head. Just one reason why she hadn't cast a heating charm on herself...yet.
"Maybe we should've meet inside," Hady laughed quietly. Oh well. They both were already out here and with the warming charm now in place on her younger fellow snake they could get started. "No problem. I can even teach that to you later so you can do it on your own." It was a good one to know and tended to come in handy often. Set her on fire? Laughing she shook her head, "Nah I haven't set anyone on fire yet." Just parchment and other things.
Slipping her wand back into its holster and looking over the girl in front of her she nodded. "True but sometimes music helps. Keeping in time with the beat and all that." It did for her anyhow. "Alright so just something really simple to start. Is there anything you want to learn? Or show me what you know so I can see where to start?"

Mason bit her lip and thought about what little she knew about dancing, "Ummm, I know the Dip & Step."
It was a simple move really, even Mason, who had two left feet and danced like a person having an epileptic attack, could do it without looking like a complete idiot.
She bent her knees inward and slouched, she dipped down and jumped out of the position. She did a jiggle and then stepped. That was basically the only thing she knew.
"How was that?" she asked the older girl.
There has always been something that Mason had wanted to learn to do," There is one thing. . . The James Brown Shuffle, I believe it's called." she told Hady, "Do you know it?"
Look at all the children, enjoying the sun and the outdoors.
Was that a trick of light, or had a small figure just run across the grass. Was that a giggle emitting from the figure?
Left in the grass was a day-planner that belonged to a Professor Nana Ichihara. Some of the pages had been torn, and written in red crayon all over a few of the pages were the words 'WHY WON'T ANYONE PLAY WITH ME?'

Ariadne laughed but then she gave Scarlett a more serious expression. "Oh, don't let the tree fool you--people DO have a reason to be worried. Trust me. Had I been a few feet closer, I would have been TREE TOAST," she explained. Speaking of which, she should really scoot a liiiiittle further back, just in case. That last swing of the tree was a little too close to comfort for her. Scarlett's paint party sounded like a lot of fun, and it sounded like it had really made her happy. Hufflepuffs were like that, she'd heard.
She perked up when the Hufflepuff girl mentioned decorating her dorm. "NO WAY!" she said. "That's so cool! I'm going to find all the other Slytherin first years and suggest we decorate our dorm, too!" she exclaimed. "It's so dark and damp down there. Don't get me wrong. I love my house, and I wouldn't trade my sorting for anything in the world, but the Slytherin Common Room isn't exactly roomy." But it was HOME now, and it was really starting to grow on her.

Ariadne flinched when something blazed past her vision. At first, she thought it'd been the tree, but it was too small and too low on the ground to be the tree. If the tree could get THAT low, she was in trouble. "What was that?" she asked Scarlett. Something else on the ground caught her attention then, and Ariadne pushed herself up off the ground. Approaching the planner, she picked it up and read the bold red words on the page.
"Why won't anyone play with me?" she repeated. "Hey...come look at this. It sounds like somebody's REALLY lonely and looking for friends." Maybe THAT was who had left the planner behind. Ariadne looked around, but everyone seemed preoccupied with something else. "Don't be sad!" she called out. "I'll be your friend! I'LL PLAY WITH YOU!"
The kids here at Hogwarts were a little old to play, but...maybe they meant play Quidditch! Ariadne could do that!

SPOILER!!: Mason
The Dip & Step hmm?
Interesting that she knew that and not much else. However she did say when they first talked that she really liked dancing but was horrible at it. So given that being said Hady kept quiet watching the younger girl preform the easy dance move in front of her. "That was good. And it's a start." At least she managed to remain on two feet. This showed signs of learning to her.
Hearing Mason name the move she wanted to learn brought a grin onto the older girls face. She knew it. Knew it well in fact. Only thing was she wasn't sure how it would go over teaching someone the steps on the grass. If anything it would make for a less painful fall. "Yeah I know it. It's not really all that hard once you get the hang over it. We can give it a go if you like but it might be a bit awkward to do on grass."
Hady tugged the sleeves of her hoodie up a little bit more as well as the legs of her sweats so she wouldn't trip. Curse being short sometimes! "Alright well first when you move it's the toes of one foot down and the heel of the opposite foot down. You're feet pointing away from each other." Explaining wasn't easy for her to do but showing Mason was something she could do. Angling her feet away from each other so the formed a V shape Hady put her weight on her left toes and right heel. "Then when you move you should end up the opposite for the next step so you'd be on the toes of the foot you started on your heel on and the heel of the foot you started on your toes on, both foot meeting at the toes to make an upside down V." She then went on to show the younger girl what she meant. "Want to give it a try with me?" Step by step they could do this.

Scarlett was just about to offer up her extra supply of glitter - she seriously had TONS and was more than happy to unload some of it to her friend and any other Slytherins who felt like going crazy with it in their dorms - when Ariadne got distracted by something. Wrinkling her eyebrows, Scarlett followed her and peered over her shoulder as she opened the planner and took a look at it.
"That's so weird, it's like a kid wrote it! I mean...a kid younger than us," she added with a chuckle. Like, a baby or something. Which was so weird. And kids her age did not PLAY. That was just...weird.
And...was that a giggle?
This was all starting to freak Scarlett out - and it was reminding her all too much of that weird encounter she'd had in Myers' office with that doll. Feeling like she would much rather be in her soft, warm bed AWAY from whoever - or WHATEVER - was looking to play, she bit her lip and took a step back.
"You know, I actually just remembered - I have to feed my cat. Um, like now. I'll see you later!" she called, turning on her heel and power walking alllllllll the way back to her dorm.

Hugo considered Frankie's deal for a minute. "We can discuss your payment later" as long as he could take a well deserved nap he didn't mind paying to be taken care of. I mean, he could sleep at ease so that was good.
He laughed "Eating the first years?" the prefect sat down and looked at the tent "Why is she even here?" and for some odd reason Hugo wanted to visit her. But something else interrupted his thoughts and conversation....

He heard a giggle and saw a porcelain doll. Hugo didn't trust those things. Nope, never. Especially with that note. "Look at that doll" said to Frankie.
And Hugo was sure he wasn't going to play with her. EVER.

Ariadne was only vaguely aware of Scarlett peering over her shoulder and looking at the day-planner with her. She nodded in reply to her Hufflepuff friend's comment about the handwriting. "You know, you're right. Maybe it belongs to somebody's little sibling...or a professor's kid," she said. She thumbed through the pages, her eyes finally landing on the inside front cover. "Oh, look! Here it is. It belongs to Professor Ichihara. It has her name right here." Ariadne tapped the name on the inside front cover.
Then Scarlett decided to randomly run and go feed her cat, which seemed kind of odd. Maybe she hadn't fed it in like three days or something, which would explain the sudden urge to turn on her heels and rush back to the castle. "Err..., okay. I'll see you later then," she said. "She pocketed the planner. "I think I'll go return this to Professor Ichihara anyway." She, too, turned on her heels and headed back to the castle.

SPOILER!!: Hady-the-Rady (I'm so bad at rhyming)
The Dip & Step hmm?

Mason beamed at the older girl. "You think so?" she couldn't really see how she was dancing, but she had assumed that it wasn't all that good. Well Hady was saying that it was good, and that was all that mattered right now.
Mason nodded and gave Hady a massive grin, happy that she knew the move, "That would be fantastic!" she frowned at the grass and kicked a tuft of it free, "Oh yeah, I can imagine that it would be silly. Probably won't be able to shuffle as good on the grass."
Mason stared at Hady's feet as she explained the moves. She nodded her head and moved her feet so that they were pointing in the opposite directions. "Like this?"
Mason tried putting the weight onto her toes and heels as Hady had done. Hers looked a lot less graceful compared to Hady's, but this was the first time she had ever been taught a dance, so she hadn't been expecting a miracle.
Mason looked down at her feet and shifted the position of them, so that they were they were in the same position as before, only this time the opposite foot carried the weight of the first move.
Mason let out a deep breath. That didn't seem so hard, but this was only the beginning.
