Alice smiled a true smile. She never imagined building something on her own...with Sophrina...would be so satisfying. She felt a sense of accomplishment...hmm, maybe she'll build a house on her own, eh not really. Alice turned to face Sophrina and said, "Yes, it's perfect."

Then a pang in her right ring finger reminded her of one of the accidents. While she was trying to connect a pole to another one she had smashed her finger and broken a nail. At first she thought it wasn't nothing, but now she barely noticed that it was bleeding. Who cares? Alice built something and that was HUGE!!! "We should have added a garden." Alice commented. Black Manor had a garden, so this one should too. "What should we call it?" she asked. Maybe Sophrina wouldn't like it if she called it the Black Tent.

Sophie tapped her finger on her chin. What should they call the tent? Her home is Sapphire Estate and Alice might not agree on calling their tent Sapphire Estate Junior. "How about...S&A Tent. You know, the initials of our first names." Sophie explained.

She then noticed Alice's bleeding finger. "Are you okay? I'll call the professor over...I am not that good at healing spells, yet." she admitted. Now that she remembered, Sophie should have listened to her mother when she tried to teach her some simple healing spells. Great.

Alice considered the name and said, "Not bad, Firstie. I like it." she grinned, "The S&A tent."

She looked down at her injured finger, it stung, but no one would know that. Alice didn't like people to know she was in pain. "Nah, it's nothing big." she said waving the injured hand in the air. Shouldn't have done that. She slightly winced as it stung. "Really, Firstie, don't worry about it." Alice didn't want the professor or classmates to think she was a wimp on the first day. That would be a catastrophe!

Rex heard the tents being named. "Well, I would like to name my tent after my helper. Plus I will name it after her cupckes, too. " My tent is called " Nessa's Sweet Masterpiece" Rex told the professor.

faining injury "oh so that is how you do it blind them with your dazzling good looks then hit them when they cant see "

Enya made a kissy face at him. "Awww poor baby." She teased. "Can't even handle a good old-fashioned pillow fight!"

Of course! "Certainly," Di said, as she headed over to the girl's tent. Red and silver stripes. Beautiful. "Nice work," she said, the corners of her lips tugging up into a smile.

Healing spells? Di paused, as she passed the two girls. "Is anything the matter?" she asked, concerned.



Oh, and time up.

"Right. Time to pitch your tents up, guys," Di said, as she set down the last layer of logs - two inches wide, two-ish feet long - and used her wand to start a huge, orange-red fire. Then she set down a few baskets. "Gather round, gather round the fire. Pass on the marshmallows and s'mores."

Okay.

"We're going to play a game. It's called 'The Refresh Your Basic Knowledge of Runes House Challenge.'" She smiled, slightly. Slightly. "I'm going to either name or hold up a rune. Each of you can state one thing about that rune. It can be the rune's different names - most runes do have a couple; its meanings; things it represents or is connected to; your interpretation of it - anything purely related to that particular rune. Each correct statement wins your house a point. House points to the house that has the most points, at the end of the game."

She waited a few minutes, giving everyone time to settle down. Then she cleared her throat. "Alright. The first rune is... Fehu."

Oooh. Finn knew a meaning of that rune. Wasn't that like totally epic? He did though...have to kinda remember the meaning, he'd got a bit too excited with the tent pitching and seemed to have lost his memory. "Professor...Doesn't Fehu have an origonal meaning of wealth?"

Kurumi made a quick read through of her notes from a trip to th library she had made before classes started. Runes were a lot like kanji to her and she had a natural knack for remembering meanings. A...fehu was the one that was one long standing stick with two diagonal ones coming out of it that could look like the yen symbol if you looked at it hard enough...The Ravenclaw student had already given the best answer, but there had to be something more..."Professor," Kurumi said raising her hand from the entrance of her elevated tent. "I believe that fehu can also have the meaning of livestock." She wasn't sure how much longer she was going to be able to keep up with questions while flipping through her notes at the same time.

Alice could feel her face grow a tad warmer. "Not really, I...just kind of...smashed my finger." Alice said, nervously. She saw a bit of oozing blood scurry down her finger and not knowing what else to do, she quickly swiped it on her uniform skirt, hoping the professor wouldn't see. How embarrassing, Alice thought, trying to hide her injured finger behind her back.

Mmm, runes weren't generally one of Grayson's better subjects. Or even one of her favorites. But if marshmallows were going to be involved, she was going to be there. Maybe even s'mores. But she needed to get back to the runes, and looked up as the professor held the first one up. "The literal meaning of fehu is cattle, which leads to its symbolic meanings of wealth and stuff," she pointed out, raising her hand carefully. Actually, she was a bit surprised she knew that.

The professor called them just as she was finishing her painting. She stepped back and looked at the runic lettering that now adorned her tent.



It was sloppy, but it worked. She turned and sat in front of her tent, wishing she had marshmallows.

"Oh," Lina blinked, as she looked at the rune. That was the one she'd talked about in class. Only one thing? Hmm... "Um, Fehu literally means 'cattle.'"

Dianna was already munching on a s'more. After the tent exercise she needed the energy. Oh, she hadn't studied much of her text books yet and hoped that she'll be able to answer some correctly.

Raising her hand tentatively in the air, "Fehu is the first rune of the Futhark and first of Freyja's Aett. The name means cattle. It is the first rune because cattle are symbols of wealth and it common for them to come first. Phoenician, Hebrew and Greek alphabets all start with letters meaning cattle." Mia lowered her hand and placed it back into her lap. Yep she had actually read a book.

Emmy raised her hand tentatively.
"Um, isn't fehu the rune of wealth and fulfilment?"
At least, it was last time I looked... she thought.

Enya felt a little lost, this being her first rune class, she took notes with one hand and tried to eat a s'more with the other. She hoped she did not drip chocolate on herself.

Oh my. "That isn't right," Di said, shaking her head. "Shall I fix it, or do you want to go to the hospital wing?" It was a minor injury and Di could set it right; but just in case the student preferred a qualified healer...

"Correct, correct," Di nodded. "Fehu, the rune of nourishment, abundance and wealth. Its symbol is the cattle because, in those times, cattle basically meant a living."

She placed a little chalkboard next to herself, and tapped it with her wand, causing words to appear on it. "Looks like the Badgers are in the lead," she said, as she proceeded to roast a marshmallow-on-a-stick. "Next we have... Raido."

Hmm. He wasn't really too sure of that rune either. He'd heard of it though, during one the times he hadn't really been paying attention at home. "Doesn't Raido represent events that involves travelling?"

Grayson's hand shot up again. Maybe I know more than I thought, she thought, before speaking. "Raido, also spelled raidho, has to do with the idea of a journey. Generally the concept of the journey of life and how our actions influence our lives." She still wanted sugar, though. Maybe if she answered enough she'd get it, although she knew it would make her hyper.

Mia raised her hand again thankful that she could actually remember the stuff she had read in the text book. "Raido refers to the journey of life, (wheel of life) or a spiritual quest. It can also mean transport or communication such as delivering or receiving a message."

Emmy surprised herself as she raised her hand once more - she'd never been particularly good at Ancient Runes before...
"Raidho is the Traveller's Rune, I believe?" she would have liked to elaborate, but couldn't think of anything else to say about it.

Alice gave the professor an embarrassed grin and said, "Yes." Alice showed her, her finger allowing the professor to heal her. Alice did not like the hospital wing and will not be going there by any means. "Thanks." she said. Gosh, this is so embarrasing. Alice thought.

Raido.Raido.
"Does it mean a journey or departure? I know Raido can also mean wheel, ride, or travel." Dianna said as she lowered her hand.

Sophrina blew on her roasted marshmallow and thought about the rune, Raido. Hmm, Raido? Then the light bulb in her head turned on, "Raido, it's the rune that signifies traveling or journey." she informed.
