As you walk into the History of Magic classroom, you might first notice the five rectangular objects covered with sheets and propped up along the front wall. They are covered more for the benefit of the objects underneath, from which quiet murmurs can be heard occasionally, rather than for any kind of surprise or secrecy.
Professor Finch is found leaning casually against his desk at the front of the room, waiting for students to arrive as he greets each one. "Good morning.. please take your seat at the table marked with your name." He gestures to the multiple tables with four chairs each that fill the room instead of traditional desks. There are four nametags at each table, already filled out with names of the students enrolled in this class, in a random order. Hopefully this will help him retain the names that he still has trouble remembering at times, though he will know if you are sitting at the incorrect name.
Also located at the center of each table is a small caddy with several colors of markers, paint pens, glitter glue, and a handful of stickers. "Feel free to embellish your nametags if you'd like while we wait for everyone to arrive." Or not, it didn't matter to him. But he knew that people needed to express themselves in their own individual way at times, and it was often good to occupy young people while there downtime.
OOC- Come on in and take a seat! The names are in random order so it is up to you at which table your character's name is located, but it's likely that they aren't sitting next to their best friend. But as Professor Finch would say - think of this as broadening your horizons and giving you the opportunity of getting to know someone new! =)

Time to learn about boring history.
Oh joy.
Esme WAS trying to keep an open mind. Honest. As she walked into the classroom, she smiled at the Professor. "Hello, Professor." At least he was good looking. Wait, when had she became shallow? At least she wasn't making moon eyes over him and the other attractive Professors. Thank Merlin for that.
Refraining from asking what the objects under the sheets were because she would find out in time, she headed towards her seat. For a moment she had contemplated switching places with Juno and seeing if he could tell the difference between identical twins...but she would be good today.
Taking a seat in her designated spot, she chose some markers and stickers so that she could pretty up her name tag. It was lacking flowers!

Thankfully, this class wasn't being taught by his house ghost this year - something that Rooney was indefinitely happy about. He wasn't sure that he had learnt much in this class before now and really just wanted to have a decent insight into the history of his everything. He was at school to learn magic and he just wanted to know about it. That was all. He didn't want to dress up like an idiot or listen to a ghost. He wanted to be taught by someone who believed in what they were teaching and made it the best lesson every time.
"Hey, Professor!" Roo smiled, looked around for his name at a table and took the corresponding seat. A seating chart wasn't something he was used to and he had no idea how it would work out. "Will we be staying in these seats all year, Professor?"
Now, THIS class was going to be the BEST, and it certainly was not just because Katherine had read every most of the suggested magical history books twice; but also because she felt like it'd be her best.
She was looking extra good today and had opted to wear her hair down. She had just pinned it on the right side to look at her most stylish. Her school uniform was perfectly clean and ironed too. She had even brought Hogwarts: A HisOtory in case she needed to reference to it. She couldn't be more ready for this class, and after putting on a smile, she entered.
She first noticed the design of the classroom, which suggested... a group project? Ew. She hated those, because very few people could be as perfect as herself. But, if that was what the professor wished, she would oblige. Then, she noticed the man and smiled brightly at him.
"Hello sir," she greeted him, "hi guys." Because greeting classmates was always a good indicator of how good her personality was - especially in a professor's eyes. Then, started looking for her name. Not this table, not that one, maybe this -
...were those... things on the board... alive?
Ooooooookay...
She finally found her table and sat down, hoping good people were at her table and hoping those things had nothing to do with them.
Kitty walked in to the History of Magic classroom in her usual Gothic style - pale face, black eyeliner and black lipstick. Muggle Studies and History of Magic were her two favorite classes, and she had a question for the History of Magic teacher that she hoped she would find the courage to ask later. It was about the tapestry on the fourth floor corridor. Ever since finding out its backstory she had wanted to ask Professor Finch about it, but had been too shy. Hopefully after today's lesson she would overcome her shyness and get the chance to question him.
"Good morning Professor Hinch!" She smiled pleasantly at the Professor, and then looked curiously at the decorations for her nametag. Cool! If there was one thing that Kitty was not shy about, it was self expression through clothes and makeup. She sat down happily and dumped out one of the caddies, wondering how you could name a nametag look gothic without just making it black. It would take some time. Hopefully the students would take in a long time in coming, giving her plenty of time to make a stylish nametag.

History of Magic...
Something Olivia had been exposed to her all her life, thanks to a family of witches and wizards and and a grandfather who once taught the subject. Not that she minded that fact for some of what you learned was actually quite interesting. And when she stepped into the classroom for the lesson and spotted four covered items making sounds in front of the room, she was curious at the very least.
"Good morning, Professor," she greeted the man with a polite smile, returning the one he was giving as she came in. Hmm...to find her table...well her name among them. The first year looking around the room and taking it all in. Was it just her, or was it mostly Ravenclaws that were already there? It took her a few tables to look through before she spotted it. At a table where a certain Huffle was already sitting. "Hey Esme," Olivia greeted as she took her seat. The art supplies catching her eye and she went to work decorating her name tag with ivy and music notes.
Kay walked in to the History of Magic classroom. She wasn't sure what to think. She was never fond of history when her mother tried teaching it to her, but she was kind of curious about this class.
"Hello Professor Finch. My name is Kaylee Harrison." She introduce herself before she went to find her seat.
Finding her spot in a currently empty table, she sat down, and pulled out the supplies she needed for the class. While she waited for the rest of her classmates to arrive and for the class to start, she start to decorate her name tag with the art supplies
Colt was finally able to go to at least one class. He got out of doing detention with Murdoch since he did so well cleaning the great hall and didn't pout at the snake party. He decided he would give the history of magic a shot. As he entered the room, he noticed the Professor was already standing there. Well hello wake up call. He kind of jolted a bit and didn't expect it. He nodded and smiled politely, "Hello Professor Finch..." he said reading off his name plate on his desk. "My name is Colt Winchester." he introduced himself and he felt like he should. He held out his hand for a handshake. Typical manly thing to do right?
He cleared his throat and saw everyone had a marked name on the desk. He began to look around and saw his name. Aahhh perfect spot teach, right next to the window. He loved it. He sat down and took out his notebook and began to brainstorm ideas for what he could decorate his name tag with. He also began to look for some friends. He wondered where Mason could be..?

Why were their seats already chosen for them? Olly did not like that. It meant that he might (probably) would not be seated next to Ellery. But he needed to be, see? Because they were triplets. It was perfectly logical and he hoped the professor had seen that logic too and seated them next to each other. Olly searched through all the nametags looking for his own. He saw Ellery's, much to his disappointment considering he was not at the same table. But luckily he was not far away.
Oh no. Why? What had he done to deserve this? Olly found his nametag at the same table as that boy. It wasn't necessarily awful. This was a new year, maybe things would be fine. But that boy had not liked Olly, which meant Olly did not like him. Oh no. Could he switch with someone.
"Hi Professor," he greeted. Another new professor. He was not a ghost, which was kind of a bummer. Olly hoped that he would be a cool professor, you know to make up for the fact that was not a ghost. Having a ghost professor had been cool. As for decorating, Olly grabbed a few markers and some glitter before sitting down. The first thing he did was write 'Olly' on a blank portion of the card.
Mother said she had to take it. It wasn't that she didn't want to. It was just hard. So she was taking and making it a challenge to like it. If she could find one good thing in it. So far she had liked it. Surprisingly she didn't have any trouble with remembering dates. Which was good because half the time she couldn't remember her own birthday. That was not a joke.
She was her normal bouncy self as she worked into the classroom. "Good morning, Professor Finch. She bopped on by the professor and waved at him on the way to her seat.
She bopped on, looking for her name. Katerina no.... Katerina no...... Katherine...... Oh lookie. She beamed. "Hi, Katherine!" Smiling at her Kat spotted her nametag over at the next table over from the Ravenclaw.
Plopping in the seat with her nametag, she seen Kaylee waving from practically across the room at her. Turning to the side, her neighbor was not there yet. She COULD NOT WAIT TO MEET THEM. Kat grabbed her nametag and a pink glitter pen. Tracing her name. Yesssss! Glitterrrr.

This should be a good class! Davie had always enjoyed History of Magic, and now that they had a non-dead professor, the class could be even better!
"Hello sir," he greeted the man at the front of the room. Somebody else was introducing himself to the professor though, so he'd have to wait to do that. Davie gave pause for a moment as he spied something near the front covered by a sheet... something murmuring quietly... portraits, maybe? Hmm. And now he had to find his seat.
Davie wandered around quietly, looking for his nametag, and finally finding it over by the window. Well he liked that. Davie smiled at the older Slytherin boy who had just sat down, recognizing him from Dueling Club, and then he sat himself down to decorate his own name tag. He decided to emphasize his name with a few geometric lines in various shades of blue. Always blue.

Janelle had been looking forward to this class. It was time to see the new professor in action. Ever since they had shared a compartment on the Hogwarts Express, Janelle had been curious about what kind of teacher her would be. Entering the classroom, she spotted him right away. "Good Morning Professor Finch", Janelle said with a smile.
Then she took a moment to take in the seating arrangement. Tables, not desks. Apparently there would be some sort of student interaction. Searching for her assigned seat, Janelle finally found it. Pulling out her chair, she sat down and eyed the art supplies in front of her. Ahhh, they got to show a little creative style. Taking several markers, Janelle began to add a little color to her nametag. She made sure to use some glitter glue too because.........who didn't need a little bedazzling? This would certainly keep her busy until class started. One point for Professor Finch.

History of Magic. Ariadne couldn't decide whether to feel excited or not about this class. It could either be really, really interesting or really, really boring. She didn't know the professor or have any clue what his teaching style was, so she was pretty much heading in here waiting to be surprised. The first thing she noticed was the big pile of sheets in one part of the classroom. EXCITING ALREADY! What could be underneath?! It was making noises, too! Ariadne did a little fidget before moving any further.
"GOOD MORNING!" she called out to the professor. She gave him a little wave before searching for her desk. He already had them labeled--he was GOOD. She was starting to slowly decide this class was going to be more exciting than boring. ALSO...ALSOOOOOO....they got to decorate their name tags?! Yes, this class was going to be FUN! Ariadne excitedly slid into her seat and started thumbing through the decorating materials.
Norah smiled at Professor Finch as she stepped through the door, pausing in front of him to offer a bright "Hello!" before moving towards the desks to find her name. She wasn't entirely sure why she was here. This hadn't exactly been her best OWL of the lot (or anything close to that at all), but maybe with a new Professor she'd be less dreadful at it. Hopefully. That was the goal, anyways. She was NOT gonna be negative about it, at least. A quick scan of the room showed her that she had very good reason not to be negative, 'cause guess what. GLITTER GLUE. There was GLITTER GLUE. GLITTER. GLUE. This was automatically the best class now. Hands down. No competition. Sorry, Professor Myers. Maybe he'd steal back her prefects badge for that one, but Herbology, while being absolutely fabulous, didn't involve nearly enough glitter glue for her liking.
The prefect slid into her seat, which was right next to a little girl in Slytherin robes (Ariadne) who she'd never spoken to before, and immediately pulled out a bottle of blue glitter glue. NICE. With a quick smile at the girl, she said "I'm Norah," before turning down to look at the sparkly swirls she was adding to her name tag. Priorities, okay?

Okay, TO BE FAIR...Olivia wasn't AS excited about History of Magic as she might've been about other subjects...BUT she was here.
For today, at least.
The small blonde didn't pay much attention to the covered objects as she entered the room, either. Or the odd sounds they might've been making. Nope! Liv, instead, hunted for her nametag. It was difficult work remembering all the routes to classrooms scattered throughout the castle, AS WELL AS her lesson schedule...to recall arranged setting on top of all that. Pssh, it was definitely harder than it seemed. Especially when she would've rather been doing other things. Like exploring...or dancing...etc.
School was hard. *DRAMATIC*
Ah! There it was...
...with another girl [StarShine] who Liv recognized from other lessons. "Katherine, right?" Mhm, Olivia noted people she wanted to collec-...er, befriend. Ahem, taking the seat across from the girl, with her Ravenclaw!crested robes, the small blonde immediately plucked her nametag up. It was far too plain to belong to HER...So, that was being remedied, first and foremost.
"I'm Olivia." No, she hadn't been asked but Liv had never needed prompting. No, she most definitely wasn't that sort of girl. Also..."Hey, Professor! Nice to meet you!" She practically shouted across the room.

Well history was not necessarily boring. Just the history taught in schools and here kind of was. Maybe it was more Dante's fault for never expecting much. Even though he did like the last HoM Professor. Oh well. Lets see what this guy does. Also it kind of was Dante favorite class to try and daydream and take a nap. When the moment was right of course. He walked in and mentally sighed. He was going to have to sit with new people today wasn't he....yeah it looked like it. Dante walked over to his assigned seat. He was not in the mood to embellish his name tag. His name was alright as it was.
Also why did these desks look like they were going to be doing group work ad having to talk to more than one person.
Sigh.
Dante hated group work.

Melbourne Johanson was sort of nervous about this class. You know, history, maybe it wouldn’t be engaging. Glancing around she spotted an assigned seat next to as an older boy…eep. Boys.
What? She wasn’t nervous she just wanted to meet everyone and talk to people…peering at his nametag she just grinned. “Hello Professor Finch, I’m Melbourne Johanson…you can call me Mel if its easier” she nodded and only embellished her nametag with the nickname Melon…yep, that was her favorite one other than Mel.
Turning to Dante she just gave him a grin. “Hi I’m Melbourne” she nodded. “First year…” she added as if it were an important thing. She wanted to ask if he was related to Nigel because…really, that was cool and she knew from Mika’s diary that she had known him, which was cool.

Ariadne finally found a pretty, green, sparkly paint pen and decided to use it first. Inspiration immediately struck, and Ariadne decided to start with a pattern of dots going around her name. Just as she was finishing up the last dot she planned to do, someone sat down with her. Oh, good! GROUP MATES! She always had this weird fear that nobody would want to be her partner in class, and she would look like a total loser in front of everybody. Not today, though!
"Hey, Norah!" Ariadne greeted. Looking up, the first thing that caught her eye was a shiny BADGE on the Hufflepuff's chest. "You're a prefect!" ... Way to act like a weirdo, Ariadne. "That's so cool! I'm Ariadne Greingoth." She thought prefects were awesome, because SCHOOL LEADERS!
She capped the green paint pen and put it back. Next, she wanted to use the glitter glue! She made silver, sparkly swirls all around her dots. This was really starting to look awesome! There was still room left for something else, but Ariadne didn't know what. She peered into the caddy. STICKERS! She needed stickers now.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
It took Torrance a while after walking into the History of Magic Classroom, after his smile and happy wave back to the Professor of course to find his seat with his name on it.
He found the seat and dropped his bags and things to the side of it. Who was with him. Liv, Liv was cool. Hadn't seen much of her outside of Class, or the common room though. Also, AGH OH NO! HIS RIVAL! Kate who doesn't like being called Kate!
He quickly gave Liv a smile and Kate one of course but not as nice of one as he gave Liv. "Hi Guys." He said in a soft tone of voice. Maybe he could just distract himself now by Fancying-up his name tag. Some dots all over it would look pretty awesome yeah?
History of Magic! How exciting! The eager eagle marched into the classroom with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. "Good morning, Professor Finch! Beautiful day today, eh?" he quickly made his way towards the rest of the class only to have the smile wiped off his face completely as he discovered the seating arrangements. Uh-oh! His name was on one of these nametags, and he had to actually search for it? Yikes. Now begins the awkward shuffling around the room trying to spot a "Garreth Kenway" on one of the pieces of paper. He scanned the tags he could see from where he stood and upon coming to terms with the fact that his name was on none of them, he began the search. His first stop was over at Esme's table. She was probably the one person he'd spoken to the most out of everyone in the room - not that that was saying much - and he sort of hoped he'd be sitting with her, but alas, his name wasn't there. He gave her an exaggerated frown and moved over to Kitty's table. Nope. No "Garreth" there either.
He searched hard and found none. He searched harder and found noner.
Aha! There it was! ... At an empty table. Fantastic. Well, at least he'd found his seat. Now the lesson could begin! Well, maybe after at least half the class had arrived. Was it too soon to start asking questions? Yeah, probably. He'd just have to shut up and doodle on his nametag for now. Dum dee dum. Could he ask questions now? No, probably not. How about now? No? How about now? Now?

HoM....
He had really really really really hoped he could drop the subject, but apparently that would only be a possibility next year. Ugh. He would have to endure for now. Still though, he came prepared in case the lesson material bored him too much. Pages of an Arithmancy text sat between the pages of his HoM text. Worst came to worst, he'd still learn something this session.
Entering the classroom, Zeke gazed around at first. The sheets appeared to be concealing something that was fairly familiar to him, in general at least. Interesting. Or not. "Professor," he greeted with a nod in passing as he searched for him name tag.
He found it too, and slipped into the chair opposite Dante. "Hey," he greeted his fifthyearman, and an ICKLE! "Mel-burn," he greeted with a grin also.

It was hard to come to this class last year, when they'd had a ghost teaching, but now that a flesh and bone human was teaching, it felt worse. Dot actually paused in the door and gave the man a long look, and it wasn't because he was so pretty pretty. Although he was.
He wasn't Professor Glendower. No one was.
She sighed and slid into her seat and resolved not to be bothered by it today, although she told herself that every time she had History of Magic. She'd get used to him, eventually. "Good day, sir," Dot finally managed with a wry smile.

Ilia walked into the classroom in a fine mood, smile on her face as she walked in. She bowed politely to the new Professor, as it was her routine greeting for adults and new people. "Good morning Professor." She gave the man a welcoming smile as she walked in farther.
Okay, so they had to find their name.....hopefully she was somewhere near someone she knew? Maybe....if she was lucky. She kept her smile intact as she searched, her eyes scanning the table tops. It took a few moments for her to find it as she walked up to the table calmly. Hey there was a first year, at least it was another girl at the table, she smiled sweetly at her. Taking her nametag she looked up at the other occupants smiling. Hey there was Dante, she nodded to her housemate. However, once she looked at the other occupant.....her smile cracked a bit. She did her best not to let her intense displeasure show and put her doll-like features back into a stoic expression as she reluctantly took her seat. "Hello, everyone." She greeted the table, doing her best not to look at the astronomical jerks face.
Instantly the sixteen year old became fascinated with her boring nametag.
