There is nothing out of the ordinary as you approach the History of Magic classroom for today's lesson. Of course, the large Make an Entrance Respectfully is still hanging outside the door as it is pretty much a fixture by now. As always, Professor Glendower leaves that up to her students as to how they want to interpret the words' meaning.
There is no music coming from the classroom today as one might expect to hear at times, unless you count the song Professor Glendower is softly singing along to the music in her head as she looks over the notes for class at her podium, "...I can tell that we are going to be friends.."
Orr... is that Professor Glendower? Her hair seems a bit darker and it is much longer - floor length as a matter of fact. And it almost seems that her skin has taken on a greenish tinge. But other than that nothing is out of the ordinary and once students arrive, she looks up and gives a great big smile before greeting.
The last student safely tucked inside, Nessa walked to the front of the classroom to begin the day’s lesson. “Welcome, everyone! I hope the day finds you well..” She was rather looking forward to the topic of the class, but slightly nervous as well which she really hoped that she was not conveying to the students. It was slightly different to how she normally conducted class so she hoped that it would go well, though of course it would have that Glendower touch to it. “Today we are going to start with a discussion on different kinds of magical creatures found in the Wizarding world.” Not necessarily those found in CoMC as that was not the class she taught, though maybe a few could be taught cross-discipline. “Specifically about the classifications that the Ministry of Magic gives them. Not the classification regarding how dangerous a creature is..” She knew she’d have to clarify that or else she was sure many students would recite those to her and this was not CoMC. Javier could teach that to them if he wanted. “But the official Ministry classification of all kinds of magical creatures. What are the classifications and what creatures can be found within them?” Yeah, no comment on her appearance just yet. Maybe later or they could just guess.

Andrew was slightly taken aback by the professor's use of his given name, as he wasn't used to the professors actually even knowing it! However, it did not take him nearly as much time to get over that as it was taking him to get over the professor's new look.
The way she spoke when she started the lesson made him force himself to focus on her words, but there was still a figurative elephant in the room that he just barely managed to ignore. The professor's question seemed simple enough, but he was a little afraid to answer just in case he'd misunderstood. Still, he took a breath and raised his hand.
"If I've understood the question correctly, Professor, you're referring to the three classifications of magical creatures: Spirits, Beasts and... Beings I think was the third one?" He spoke slowly and calmly, making every attempt to obscure how uncertain he was about his answer.

All the answers she could give we're already being said by others, so Lux didn't really see the point in raising her hand. Instead she took out her notebook and began writing down what was being said.
Looking towards her boyfriend, she saw that he was asleep. Poor Bay. He was working so very hard this term; she was so proud. About to wake him before the Professor noticed, she was pleased when he did so on his own. Hopefully he would stay awake. At least until class was over.

Angel looked at the Professor as she said why not... now this was hard she didn't want to get into trouble but the Professor had just started her mind going again about that night in the dorm. "Let's just say people you think would be there to protect you aren't always there." Angel pouted. "Someone I thought the world off decided to be mean and decided they would do something horrible." Angel was starting to get annoyed now... she was sure the Professor was wishing she hadn't asked. "And yes I'm Angel." Angel said truthfully. "But can we please not mention a certain person?" Angel didn't want to talk about her sister she was still fuming about the whole thing.
Angel raised her hand and answered the question even though she was still very much annoyed. "How about they rate the beast they don't understand high and those they do low." Angel thought the whole system was biased and she wasn't that bothered the Professor had made her grumpy by asking that question and her eyes kept wandering to her sister... she wasn't going to do anything today was she?

AJ never looked in the direction of her sister, and she didn't feel bad about ruining her hair. Leave it to Angel to whine to a professor. If her sister went and snitched on her, her hair would end up being the least on her concerns.
What was the question again? AJ was mad all over again, and the anger was over powering everything else. Something about creatures and their classifications. Her hand was in the air. "The ministry pretty much just chooses what they think are cool animals versus lame animals, and they label them." Which was kind of rude actually. What if she went around labeling the students like that? Angel would be a big fat lame-o label right about now.

"Some People can finish stuff." Angel replied to her sister. "But they care about some other people so much they can't bring themselves around to do anything bad and so they leave." Angel rolled her eyes, she had been looking straight towards the Professor and had been trying to stay away from looking at her sister.
Benny heard Angel's comment to the professor and knowing what had happened in the dorm yesterday, he was well aware of who she was refering to. Said person answering herself as AJ spoke up and added her two cents into the conversation. And the possible growing situation between the sisters. When Angel spoke again, he turned to look at his girlfriend feeling the need to say something to her...anything to keep it from escalating...as Adi seemed to be trying to handle AJ.
"Angel, this is not the time..." he answered quietly as he looked back up at the front of the class.

Zander raised his hand to answer, but then promptly lowered it when someone else went to mention the X's. That someone else who was talking about how X's meant kisses and how kisses meant cooties? Did all boy's have cooties? 'Cause..... He kissed, ahem, someone on the train and.... He didn't give her cooties did he? That would be bad. Did she know? Did she know that some boys have cooties, but then she kissed him anyways!?
O________O
No. Cooties weren't actually a thing. They couldn't be.... Could they? UH, Professor??
But also, how come they were talking about magical creatures in history? Shouldn't that stuff be saved for, well, Care of Magical Creatures? Just wonderin' is all. Ahem.

"Hi, Professor Glendower...'' Adi tried not to stare. That was Glendower, right? O_O She looked all weird. Was she okay? Or was she sick She did look green. Very much puzzled, he turned to look at the students. What was up with people's hair today? Angel's this time. He wondered what had happened there.
Shaking his head, he waved to her and chose a seat next to Professor Morgan. "Hello, Professor.''

What.
She stared up at Professor Glendower...who was.....wearing long hair. What in MERLIN's pants was going on? Eden was blinking up at her...unamused. How did she even walk around with that wig on? it was a wig, riiiight? RIGHT? Or had she charmed her hair this way? And then was this SILLY lady----
PROFESSOR MORGAN? Eden gaped at the woman. Since when was she so...HAPPY like this, though? Professor Morgan was typically in a good mood, yes but...this? But she went towards her and smiiiiled. "Hi, Professor--" she said softly, but with a grin. "You seem chipper today--" Eden wishes she felt as...enthusiastic about today, though. She took a seat and pulled out her notbeook. "Also...are you here just for fun, Professor?" she asked, looking up at her curiously.

What happened to the professor's hair? Did she...uh, forgot to have a haircut? She looked like she's ready to sweep the floor with it. AHem. Well, anyway, he was there and Ethan beamed at the Professor. "Good day, Professor Glendower!" Haaaai. Waaave! Oh and the Divination Professor's here too! "Professor Cassie, it's good to see you here." Nodnod. She was a fun baby yeti last term!
And now a seat. He chose a seat next to a familiar looking Ravenclaw. He knows that she used to be in Durmstrang. Ethan gave the older girl a grin, and got ready for the lecture.

They didn't need any more messed up professors...or students for that matter. "Hello Professor," he greeted before catching sight of the other woman. "Hello Professors," Benny corrected himself before moving on. Looking at the other presences in the room, he noticed Adi and AJ sitting in one direction and Angel sitting in the other. Knowing the details of what had happened between the sisters, he gave his bestie a small smile before taking a seat next to his girlfriend.
"Hey." Better to support Angel. At least she didn't seem to be upset.

But her smile soon faltered upon hearing the girl’s next words. “Oh.. why not?” She thought it was a lovely day and her brown eyes followed the Gryffindor as she went to her seat. Hmm.. that was an interesting haircut the girl had, but as she wasn’t sure if it was cutting edge hair fashion or an unintentional accident, she chose not to say anything about it.
Still smiling as the next student walked in, Nessa watched the Head Girl carefully. She had hated having to reprimand the girl for what she was sure was an overenthusiastic performance earlier in the year so she really hoped that she wouldn’t have to do it again. Hmm.. perhaps she had been too harsh as the girl simply walked in and barely greeted her. That wouldn’t dim her cheery mood though. “Good morning, Alexa,” she responded brightly as she watched the girl look for a seat.
Nessa smiled at the next student to walk in, watching her as she came in to find a seat. She honestly didn’t mind if they didn’t each have a spectacular, unique entrance each time. Though it was fun when they did.. she just wanted them to be cognizant about it. And she just liked the sign, it was so her. “Hello, Maddie,” she greeted back in kind, once the young Ravenclaw spoke.
Nessa turned her brown eyes on the boy as he walked in, giving him a reassuring smile to his questioning tone. Had her theatrical costume thrown him off? Hmm.. perhaps that was the intention.. perhaps not. “Good morning, Andrew,” she answered back brightly before he went to find a seat.
Hearing a bit of music at the door, Nessa lifted her brown eyes and smiled broadly. Swaying to the music, she grinned watching Ian as he sauntered into the classroom. “Oh, wonderful!” she beamed at the boy, giving him some applause as he took to his seat. ”Thank you, Ian.” How delightful to have a musician entertain them a few minutes!
EEEP! Nessa loved it when her best friend came and sat in on her lesson. How fun! And look at that entrance.. she always could appreciate a decent moonwalk. Beaming at her fellow professor, she waved back just as enthusiastically. “Helllooo, Professor Cassie! And welcome!” She couldn’t help but to laugh a bit as she pointed out her hair and she dramatically tossed a bit over her shoulder. “What do you think?” Totally rocking the banshee look, hehe.
And speaking of her look, it seemed as if she had caught another of her student’s off guard. Still smiling brightly, she watched the Hufflepuff prefect as he came in. “Hi, Adi,” she said just as cheerfully as she had greeted everyone to come into the classroom. “Good to see you today..” Questions would soon be answered..
Nessa gave Zahra a beamy smile as she walked in, only to have it falter ever so slightly as she went straight for a seat and gave her a look. Hmm.. that was slightly odd and she wondered if she had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. She didn’t dwell too much on it, instead kept her cheerful smile and greeted her brightly, “Hello, Zahra!”
Huh.. It hadn’t crossed Nessa’s mind till just now but she hadn’t realized that Adi had walked in alone this time, now that the second twin had entered the classroom. And now she was second guessing herself. Was the first girl to walk in Angel? Or was it really Aubrey? She gave the girl a bright smile as she walked in, noting who she had decided to sit by. Alright, she would just go with her earlier instincts then. “Hello, Aubrey.”
Eden’s staring did not make Nessa feel self-conscious at all. Nope, she was a seasoned professional performer and was getting a reaction that she would expect anyway given her stage makeup and transfigured hair. She paid no mind to the girl’s lack of greeting, instead, she smiled widely at her. “Hello, Eden!”
Hearing some singing at the entryway, Nessa turned her attention to the door again. What a groovy song.. she thought she had heard it before and she bopped her head a bit, smiling as she watched Ethan sauntered in. But she had to suppress a chuckle as he stopped suddenly. Was it her appearance? She would guess so.. “Good day, Ethan!” she smiled brightly and greeted him cheerfully. Such a delightful child.
Still smiling widely, Nessa turned her brown eyes towards the door once more as the newest student to enter the classroom walked in. Mhmm, reacting to her appearance.. she supposed it was having the desired effect though she didn’t think she looked that much out of the ordinary to have so many gape at her that way. Just a little coloring and her hair was a bit longer.. still she beamed brightly at the Hufflepuff even though she was growing slightly concerned. He just wasn’t as bouncy as he once was.. “Hi, Toby!”
Nessa couldn’t be sure if this student was affected by or noticed her slightly different appearance as he didn’t visibly react as strongly as a few of the others, but it didn’t matter much either way. Nessa smiled widely at the boy as he walked in and found a seat. “Hello, Benjamin!”
Aww, look at this entrance! The girl exuded confidence and Nessa beamed widely at her as she came in and found a seat. “Hello, Norah!”
Nessa’s eyes widened a bit as she watched the prefect leap into the classroom, soon giving her a wide smile and a few claps for her efforts. “Hello, Jasmine,” she returned the greeting brightly. She’d guess by the way she stretched out her name that she was a bit surprised by her appearance, but she thought it might make sense to the girl in a little while.
Nessa smiled as Kace walked into the classroom, soon giving him a slightly quizzical look. “Hello, Kace.. and thank you.” Not exactly a haircut as it was much longer than shorter, but it was nice that he noticed and made a point to say it politely. She gave him an approving smile as he went to his seat.
Nessa’s beamy smile didn’t falter at all when Greyson stared and continued to stare some more at her. Maybe she didn’t expect quite that extreme of a reaction. Her hair was longer, sure.. and maybe she was slightly on the green side, but was it that unusual? Still she had expected some to at least notice, so she simply responded to the boy in kind as he spoke. “Yeeess?” *beam* “It’s lovely to see you as well, Greyson.. and hello!”
”Hooray for Dot!” Nessa beamed as the young girl walked in with her half-hearted attempt at jazz hands. The professor returned the greeting with jazz hands of her own, except they were fully hearted. “And good day to you, Miss.”
Nessa smiled brightly at the newest entrant to class today. Hmm.. another questioning her presence. Again, her smile did not falter and she returned the greeting. “Hi, Cinnamon.”
Nessa beamed at Lux as she walked in like some sort of fashion model.. how fun! “Hello Lux,” she greeted her cheerfully as she watched her take a seat. A quick glance at her watch told her class was soon to begin, but she was sure she’d get a few more students before then.
Nessa smiled widely as another student walked into the classroom. And she almost chuckled at his apparent shock. Apparently her costuming was effective. “Hi Zeke,” she greeted him brightly in return.
With a delighted smile, Nessa watched as the next student entered, in costume, and flittered around like a fairy. What a wonderful performance and she took a proper seat, lovely. Nessa clapped a few times and said, “And a good day to you as well, Puck!” She did love the entertaining entrances best, even if they were all endearing in their own way.
Hmm, was she confused? Nessa still smiled at the girl as she entered and gave her an odd sort of expression. Nothing new as far as reactions from students went though but perhaps everyone would settle down in due time. “Good morning, Brooklyn,” she returned the greeting cheerfully.
Nearly time to begin, Nessa turned her brown eyes to the door in anticipation of the last few students to make it in before she officially started class. Smiling brightly, she watched the young Slytherin walk in and find a seat, returning her greeting cheerfully. “Good morning, Hadleigh.”
Still smiling, Nessa watched curiously as Kyroh came in with his eyes closed. Her smile did falter for a moment when he walked into his chair, causing her to gasp just a bit. Was he ok? He seemed to be and she smiled once again as he sat down. "Hi, Kyroh," she greeted him cheerfully.
Yes! Yes! Everyone was getting snaps! How adorable was all their entrances and look how sweet they were saying hello to her. First she gave a hello to Adi, and then to Eden. "It's just a happy day!" Yes, that it was. She nodded at her, "Wouldn't miss it." Beaming she watched the other students enter. Her best friends class was just so fabulous and her look, she couldn't wait to see what that was about.
Smiling at Ethan she wondered if he knew his Yeti picture was hanging in her office, but she'd tell him later. Class was going to start and she couldn't be a bad Professor and talk. She waved at Kace as well and nodded to his question. Yes she was joining or she wouldn't be sitting here right now.
Oooh and it was time to get started, gosh she loved Nessa's hair! It was so long, maybe she should charm her own to be that long for the fun of it. She wondered if someone might like it long or even shorter. Hmm shorter might be fun. Her mind drifted to these things until students started answering a question. Whoops, what was the question? The Divination Professor listened trying to catch up.

Dot kept her head down on her desk and hoped desperately that The Boy wasn't looking at her. It was really hard for her to focus on the professor and her question, even with the woman being green, when she was busy being embarrassed. Like... like what was she asking about?
Beasties, yeah? And ghosts. And spiders. No.... no one said anything about spiders. Dot propped up on one elbow and then on two as she considered the question. "What about magic ones and... not magic ones?"
Puck grinned at Professor Glendower, “nice hair Professor” she quietly complimented and then returned her attention to the class at hand still in her fairy gear. Her face as straight and prim as ever she just felt the laughter bubbling through her mind and body as she tried not to laugh. “The creatures that are no problem to competent wizards are given an X-X-X rating.” She piped up and glanced around daring ANYONE to comment.

Benny listened to the first question posed to the class and eagerly raised his hand to answer. "There are creatures marked XXXXX, the highest level which means extremely dangerous and known to kill wizards and something only experienced wizards should handle."
Nessa’s beamy smile fell just a bit as she called on Benjamin. Wait.. didn’t she just ask the class to not give her the rating classifications that told how dangerous a creature was? ”Yes, there are..” she began slowly. ”But that’s not what we are looking for today.” She did not want to be discouraging though because he was technically right and she did appreciate the attempt. It was just that they were on a slightly different topic, but she still gave the boy an encouraging smile.

Was it just her or did the head girl look visibly relieved.. or maybe just happy to be there? Nessa determined it was the latter and she gave Alexa a big smile which soon turned a bit thoughtful. Maybe she hadn’t been clear enough? Nessa wasn’t sure how to be any more clear to say this and not that, but it seemed not everyone understood. She’d have to clear that up quickly. “Yes, that’s probably true,” she said brightly, chuckling a bit at the girl’s humor. “But we’re going to be talking about a different type of classification today actually..”

Confusion.
She flipped open her notebook and wrote the date at the top, wondering who else would answer..because Eden wouldn't..nope...she just...listened and paid close attention. But she was HERE, wasn't she?! Heh.
Nessa’s brown eyes caught a movement and she looked over to see Eden giving her a wave. Smiling widely, she gave her a happy little wave back then waited a moment to see if she had a contribution to the discussion. No? Well, note taking was always good as long as she was writing what they were actually meaning to be talking about today.

"There's, uhh... 'Beings'," he offered. "Which I think are like... creatures classed as smart enough to understand and have a say in laws and stuff." He had an inkling of what creatures might be in that category, but juuuuust in case he was all wrong in his answer, decided to leave it at that.
One could not miss the relieved look of gratitude on Professor Glendower’s face upon hearing this Hufflepuff’s answer. Maybe she had been clear enough after all. “Yes! Exactly, Toby.. thank you.” She beamed at the boy then flicked her wand at the board to begin a list. “Beings is one of the classifications and the creatures that fall under this heading need to have enough cognizant comprehension that they are given an input in things like laws.” Thank you for paying attention, Toby!

And good, they seemed to be back on the right track again. Nessa smiled approvingly at Brooklyn and gave her a nod upon hearing her answer. “Correct. Another classification would be Beasts.” Wand flick at the board. “These are typically what we would think of as animals in the wizarding world. Uhh… what? Professor Glendower fixed who she now knew for certain to be Angel with a curious look. She really did not know what she was on about, but it seemed a bit concerning. Not that right now was the time for it. “I see..” she began, not wanting to delve too far into it right now, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t talk to her if she wanted to later. “I’m sure this is a discussion for another time, but my office door is always welcome if you feel the need to talk to someone,” she added kindly. That was part of her job, to mentor as well.
Moving on.. Did she have an answer to her question? It appeared that Angel fell into the group that did not seem to understand her question. She did not want the rating of mild to dangerous beasts. “I suppose that’s possible,” she began with a soft smile. “But we won’t be discussing that today.” Perhaps she could ask Professor Thompson.

Trying to keep her pleasant smile, Nessa raised an eyebrow as Zeke offered his answer. At this point, she wasn’t sure if half the class was trying to play a joke on her or what, but she had been certain that she asked them to not recite the ratings of beasts. But she told herself that she had the patience of a saint and she kept her reassuring smile as she shook her head. “I suppose it does, but that sort of thing is Professor Thompson’s expertise. We are interested in the official classification of all wizarding creatures not the rating system today.” She pointed up at the list on the board that she had started given a few of the other answers.

Nessa nodded at Jasmine to call on her, seeing that her hand was raised and she beamed happily at her answer. Yes, just what she was looking for! “Correct.. Spirit is also one and those creatures would fall under that heading.” Wand flick at the board added a few more notes.

She had remembered reading about this over the summer and asking her father questions on it. Maybe this was a question for the CoMC Professor but since Professor Glendower was asking she thought it was alright to answer.
Nessa called on Hadleigh, then gave her a mysterious sort of smile. “Well..” she began, “House-elves do fall under the Beings category.. but where would Dementors fit? We may get to that in just a bit..” Smiling, she added house-elves to the board as well.

What… was this? Nessa gave Aubrey a look, then shifted her eyes to Angel. Some sort of sisterly row she supposed, but they didn’t need to get into it right now. She chose to ignore it for now as nothing seemed to far out of hand, instead deciding to focus on the girl’s answer. “I guess that’s one way to look at it. The rating system anyway.. but that is not what we’re looking for today..” She supposed she could understand why some people were getting confused as the two systems had such similar names, but she did ask them to not give her that one.

He remembered hearing about the Pest division. He raised his hand to give his input.
"Professor I know there is a division dealing with Pests. They can deal with chizpurfles and serious Bundimun infestations." That is all he knew about that division.
Umm.. Nessa smiled faintly, mostly because she always tried to be encouraging and didn’t want to tell students they were wrong. And, while Kace was technically correct in what he said, he was a little off base. “Yes, I would imagine..” she started. Aha. So something was up between those two sisters. Adi's eyes flicked from AJ to Angel. Did AJ do that to Angel's hair? He could see her doing it, all right. Annnnd she was getting fired up again. Adi put a hand on her upper arm and squeezed gently. "You're in class,'' he reminded her. Whatever was going on between the two, they could fix it later.
Magical Creatures? Adi perked up. Anything with Magical creatures was going to get his full attention. Hand up immediately, he answered, "They can be classified as Beings, Beasts and Spirits, Professor.''
Nessa gave an unimpressed look between Angel and Aubrey. While she did love the performing arts, could just one of her classes be drama-free? In the real life drama sense of the word at least. She didn’t mind drama if the lesson called for it as it sometimes did, but this was not what she had bargained for. And she could tell that the girls had some sort of row that needed to be worked out elsewhere. “That’s enough, girls,” she said kindly but firmly. “If there is an issue that I can help you two work out then please see me after class, otherwise let’s conduct ourselves properly please.” She gave a smile to Adi as he gave a similar reminder to one of the girls. “Thank you, Prefect Rehman.” While she could handle anything serious, it was nice to see the prefects taking responsibility even if he wasn’t their prefect per se.

It wasn't like smiley professor was gonna yell at her or anything. "They say something about X's, right? Putting her hand back down again, the Hufflepuff grinned at Professor Glendower. That was totally the best answer. Yep, on point.
Oh dear. Nessa still smiled at the girl though she was taken aback a bit by her answer. Cooties.. really? That seemed like something a five year old would be concerned with, not necessarily a nearly teenage girl, but ok. “Oh, we’re not talking about the one with the X’s, no..” Whether they were kisses, or cooties, or ranking of danger. “So it’s nothing we need to be worried about anyway,” she answered brightly.. sort of.

Oh she was always so pleased when students not only understood what they were meaning to be discussing but also delved a bit deeper than just the basic facts. “Why, yes, that’s correct!” she said a bit enthusiastically, quite happy with Greyson’s answer. “There have been ongoing disputes about exactly where certain creatures fit within the classification system. Nessa gave Caleb an encouraging smile at his answer. He was pretty much on target. “Yes, typically beings are classified as those with more advanced intelligence.. though centaurs are not classified as beings. Any guess as to why?” Though they would likely get to that explanation a bit later.

No answer? Nessa looked over at Ruby who was obviously deep in thought over the contributions of her classmates. It was probably best to get moving with the rest of the lesson anyway.
Nessa took a deep breath before addressing the entire class. It seemed some were very confused given some of the answers she had gotten even after specifically asking that they not give her those. “Alright, class, as you can see from the board,” she began, gesturing to the information written there. “There are three official classifications given to magical creatures – Beings, Beasts, and Spirits. And we are talking magical creatures in the most general of terms. That includes people too. We are not talking about the rating system that the Ministry gives to what we consider to be animals as this is not Care of Magical Creatures class.” She supposed it needed repeating so hopefully everyone was paying attention this time and perhaps the visual aid of the board would otherwise help them to grasp the concept.

Maddie kind of WANTED someone to talk about Xs again, just to see what Glendower would do. The thirteen year old had been hoping for more of a reaction when student after student repeatedly gave an answer the woman had said not to give and was left underwhelmed. Couldn't they have a Professor who was a bit on the crazy side? Not counting Flamsteed, of course. A good professor meltdown would certainly liven up her day.
"Acromantulas are beasts, Professor." Maddie hadn't taken Care of Magical Creatures YET but she was an avid reader so she DID have some knowledge about creatures, magical AND mundane. Also, she DISLIKED spiders very much. Her skin had goosebumps just THINKING about giant ones who ATE people but she was used to keeping it together. Better to get this out of the way herself. "They can speak but they also will EAT you which makes them rather disagreeable. Imagine sitting down with one of THOSE to make a law?" You'd likely find yourself in their belly after a short time, she guessed.
Yes!
Dragons are one, yes.. mostly ones that can’t speak, but there are some that fall under this category that can speak. But no say in laws..” Good contribution to the discussion.

What are the traits of each of the classifications or how are they determined? What defines beast, being, or spirit? And start to think of why these classifications are in place.. What reasons would we need this organization of creatures?”
OOC – Please provide an answer to one or more of the questions Professor Glendower has posed to the class (specifically the last paragraph) about Being, Beast, or Spirit classification. Please remember that it is not about the X rating system the Ministry assigns to Magical Creatures.
Professor Morgan was the best. Eden LOVED her. And she was enjoying sitting next to her because she was being so NICE and COOL. Hehe. And having the happy, bubbly person next to her was helping her feel positive, too. She kept smiling up at her, too. HAI PROFESSOR MORGAN.
So Eden was right in thinking the 'X' classifications were NOT the ones Professor Glendower wanted. But oh--now that she thought about it, yeah, she DID know about the spirits and whatnot classifications. Oops. Regardless, she was taking notes like a madwoman. Because..this was interesting. Yes. Very interesting. HMPH.
She glanced up at the board. Right. Makes sense. And now for more discussions. Eden was enjoying this class thus far...especially with all of the CREATURES stuff, yes! Hehe.
The Ravenclaw timidly raised her hand. "I think Centaurs would definitely be in the 'Being' classification, Professor." She said softly. They were the first creatures she had thought of when she saw the word 'beings.' Well, besides humans, of course. As for the other questions..hmm.."Well..I think we'd need the classifications because you can't deal with 'beings' problems the way you can deal with, say, a 'spirits' problem. The two are much too different..." she said with a nod. "Need to be able to handle everyone efficiently." It wasn't...a perfect answer. but Eden had SUCH a hard time putting her thoughts into words most times.

Adi smiled back at Glendower. It was nice to see she was still the same despite the few changes in appearance. Besides, he was only doing what was right here. He knew he was one of the few persons that could calm AJ down.
He released her arm so he could begin taking his notes. While Adi did this, he considered the questions. "A Banshee is considered a Spirit, Professor. I think we need these classifications since they vary from other classifications because of their traits and will need to be dealt with based on the respective groups they are put into.'' Did that make sense to the Professor? Because in his head, it did.
Kace understood what the professor was trying to get at. He was a bit off topic at first. He thought about what creatures could fit into the list. He thought of beasts at first but then came up with something else. "Professor I know Goblins would go under beings since they are intelligent. But I have a question, would boggarts go under the spirits or beasts since they show us our worst fear?" He was just being a curious puff is all. He hoped he answered the question right the second time around.

Ian listened to the professor as she reiterated the answers provided as well as discussed the differences in classifications and ratings of creatures. Ian thought about the last thing she asked. Why would the ministry need these classifications? What purpose would it serve?
Ian thought about how muggles were classified by their own governments and what purposes were served in that capacity. He raised his hand and gave the following response.
Muggle governments classify people by their status in society. This helps the governments understand how best to meet needs and control different portions of the population. Ian didn't want to get overly political in his response, but it just happened. I would think the ministry would have the same purpose in mind. How does one control something unless it is provided a label and understood how best to 'deal' with that particular group? Ian had added the air quotes when he said the word deal to indicate a sarcastic use of the word. Perhaps not the most politic way to say it, but it's kind of how he viewed the whole classification thing. Governments had been doing it for thousands of years, the most basic classification being 'us' and 'not us'.

Toby couldn't help but smile at the look on Glendower's face after he gave his answer, and ended up grinning right back at her. Couldn't help it, see; whenever someone smiled it automatically made him smile right back. The Hufflepuff nodded and started to write down everything that was being added to the board, and aaaaaaaaall the words that the professor was saying too.
At the next question he raised his hand super high, suddenly quite enthusiastic because there was something he KNEW ABOUT THIS. It was all rather exciting, because Toby was awful at remembering History facts, but he supposed his studying was helping.
"Eden said about centaurs, Professor. And they're considered Beings and all that, but they refused it, for the same reason that the merpeople did, because they didn't like sharing with certain other Beings, and said the prefer to be called Beasts. Sooooo... I guess sometimes it doesn't actually matter what the requirements of a category is, if they prefer to be in another one." Toby lowered his hand and began to fidget with his quill, twirling it between his fingers. "And the classifications get re-... re-thingied all the time. Re-decided, I mean. Beings used to be classified as things that can walk on two legs, but there was a bit of a disaster when they tried to have a meeting to discuss laws and stuff. So yeah... it changes all the time. I guess they decide the classifications based on what has or hasn't already worked."
But... why? Why WERE the classifications needed? Toby had no answer for that, and gradually a thoughtful frown appeared on his face. He... had nothing there.

Spiders were beasties. Ghosts were... spirit things. And people were beings. Human... beings. So that one was easy. But there were some that were complicated, and Dot was drawing little lines between the beasts and being categories and then scratching her head with her quill.
There was ink in her hair. Oops.
"What about house elves? Those are like... thinking things and sometimes real bossy, but do they have their own will? And what's the point, then? If you say something is a being, are they allowed to buy stuff? Live in a house? Use a wand? I don't get the point."

After writing up what her fellow students had to say about Beings, Beasts, and Spirits, Lux saw that Professor Glendower had written on the board so that information was recorded in her notes as well. Hopefully they were going to get to an activity soon, because Glendower always had fun activities and she wanted to act out a role again.
A lot of questions were coming at them, and Lux raised her hand to answer one of them. "Basilisks are beasts."
Zahra was eying the board, shaking her head in that WISTFUL way. "Man, Professor.... it'd be so cool if dragons COULD talk."
Like really man. Imagine riding a fire breathing lizard to work then telling it to go pick you up a burrito for lunch? Yeah. Amazing.
"But like... okay get this. If government has set categories then like why are these creatures CHOOSING where they want to go? If the shoe fits - wear it, you know? Centaurs and merpeople need to suck it up. SUCK IT UP LIKE VAMPIRES, who are beings I think. THAT or I'm gonna move that we as wizards and witches go and be spirits 'cause they just do WHATEVS like all day everyday." See Peeves for example!

Ruby wasn't paying any attention to the board, as usual, but she did think the discussion was interesting so she was all for it. Her hand went up after a moment or two.
"I think maybe it was good intentions to start with, like probably it was about a ton of different things, wizard safety and creature rights both, you know? But I also think its maybe because people feel the need to categorize things all the time, and maybe it was a little bit about trying to neatly fit things so they were definable. I mean maybe they only had three rooms at the ministry that they could use for the divisions, or they couldn't decide which person out of three to give a promotion to, you know? It could've been something like that behind the original decision to make up the different categories." Who knew really?
"But I also think that the ones that said they don't want to be beings because they object to being beings with ones that are beings that they don't like, they sort of are still beings no matter what? Like they are still influencing laws and stuff just by objecting to them, and I don't think that it makes sense to just 'let' them be classed as something that they aren't, especially when it proves they're what they object to being called." It was dumb, basically. Ruby fell quiet, not used to saying so much in class. She went back to... not taking notes.

Andrew furrowed his brow at the professor's barrage of questions, staying silent for a moment as he tried to make up his mind about which one he'd go for.
He'd almost gotten over the professor's green-ness. Almost.
A silent moment's careful deliberation with him self later, he'd decided to take a gander at the last one. Why would we need to organize critters this way? Raising his hand, he presented his answer to the professor. "Surely when deciding who gets to vote on magical laws and such, a classification system like this would be invaluable." He began, shrugging his shoulders slightly. "We can't exactly have grindylows- He paused, pondering the correct pluralization of the word 'grindylow'. Grindylowe? Grindylli? - Anyway:"We can't exactly have grindylows and Cornish pixies voting for health-care reform, can we?" He smiled and sat back, rather pleased with his answer.

Grayson wasn't usually sure how to feel about enthusiastic people. It raised the question of WHY they were so enthusiastic in the first place when the world was worse than dragon dung. But he appreciated Glendower's enthusiasm, welcomed it even, especially when it came to her enthusiasm for his answer. Dead happy, he was.
They were gonna discuss disputes soon? BRING IT. He was ALL up for discussing exactly why there had been arguments in the first place. Let them dish out the dirt because let's face it: THOSE were the most interesting things to learn about. Facts were alright and all but really, there were only so many times he could listen to those without getting bored.
Oh jeez, those were a lot of questions. They weren't expected to answer ALL of them, were they? He freaking well hoped not.
Grayson, unsurprisingly, had another answer that was linked to conflict and opinions. Kinda. So, his hand went up in the air. "The reason I think we have these classifications is so that there's an order. Some organised way of looking at creatures, I guess. There's one for mundane creatures so why shouldn't there be one for magical ones as well?" Shrug. "Besides, we kinda need it in place. It's much easier to remember these categories and to know what they roughly stand for than the ones saying how dangerous a creature is. You say the word 'Beast' and people are more likely to think of a monstrous creature they should stay away from, even if they don't know ho dangerous they are."
"It also creates a sense of hierarchy. Beings are more likely to be higher up the hierarchy and therefore have more power." Just saying.
And Ruby had said a lot, you know? Intelligent words. Her opinion. And he hadn't heard her giving that much of an answer before as far as he could remember so, he smiled encouragingly in her direction.

Lots to think about here. David was trying to think of a creature he could suggest to add to the board, but then Zahra's answer kind of distracted him and now he was thinking about that. Why DID they let merpeople and centaurs choose? Hmmmmmmm.
He raised his hand as he considered it. "Maybe letting them choose is like...a sign of respect or something? Centaurs and merpeople are probably pretty helpful for some things, but they might not ever help us with anything if we didn't respect them enough to not classify them with vampires and hags and all those things they don't like. So that could be why. Or part of the reason anyway." Because there could be more to it than just that. He didn't know.

Norah slid down in her seat, feeling her cheeks start to turn pink. So people thought cooties were funny? Sigh. Nobody understands a twelve year old. Heaving a long breath, she sat back up again and grudgingly began to take notes. So she hadn't even been answering the right question? Boooring. Talking about danger would be much more fun.
She sat listening to the other answers, contemplating whether she should raise her hand and humiliate herself even further. "Chimeras are beasts 'cause they're definitely vicious AND savage." There. That was right, wasn't it? And not funny or stupid? Suddenly confused, Norah's hand shot back into the air. "But why would a being WANT to be a beast? Doesn't it make more sense for them to want to be beings so they can make the rules?" Why would anybody ever give up an opportunity to be the boss?

Marigold followed along, taking notes, before thoughtfully considering the question. "Flobberworms are beasts." She knew that one. Which was weird, not that she knew that the fact that flobberworms which were soo boring, were under a title along with dragons and chimeras? Anyway, Marigold listened attentively to Ruby's point, then raised her hand. "I think they can choose because, ultimately, wizards 'n witches aren't going to... y'know... force them one way or another. We prefer being in charge anyway. But allowing them the choice... I mean, it's probably one less thing for the ministry workers to worry about, right?"
