The walk down the first floor corridor is a rather dusty one, something that might be reminiscent to walking through a rarely visited attic. Cobwebs are present in every corner, some larger than others. It appears someone had neglected cleaning this part of the castle. Are the house elves on strike?
The "Make an Entrance" sign hanging outside the classroom happens to be cobweb-free, however. Professor Glendower made sure to clean it up on her way into the room as she got there early to prepare for her lesson.
Once inside the classroom, you might first notice the covered boxes at the front of the room as well as several brooms propped up next to them. Perhaps Professor Glendower had been using them to clean up the cobwebs that had grown in this room as well since the last time class was in session. In fact, you might notice her using some spellwork to finish tidying up while she's humming an old Disney tune that she and a student had been playing recently next door.
Once you greet her, she'll be sure to welcome you with a smile on her face. So, come in and take a seat, class will begin soon!

"Hello." Angel said suddenly and shyly she didn't want to scare the other girl. "You want to play a game with me?"
Marsha looked up as she heard someone talking and smiled as she saw one of the older Gryffindors talking to her. ”Hi,” she replied, a big smile on her face. ”That would be amazing. I was thinking I would have a look of wizarding skittles? I’ve never looked or seen them before?” She looked at Angel as she took a set out of the box.

She had just put the foundation of her exploding house down, when she was joined by none other than Professor Glendower.
Zhenya smiled, "I never could either. A standard one storey house was all we could get. My dad could build it bigger, but it always exploded." They were the nostalgic memories of her childhood, pre-hogwarts. "What other games did you play with the exploding cards?" she asked, curious. Zhenya had only really done house of cards and snap, plus some fish game her mother had taught them.
Zhenya tried to balance two cards in one hand so she could join a third to make them stand. She carefully withdrew her hands to see if it would hold, which it did, before she slowly pulled her hands back.
Nessa smiled widely at Zhenya as the girl tended to her cards. How nice that she had similar childhood memories about the cards. "Mostly we played snap, but we'd try other things like building houses or memory games.. Other card games too, but my brothers often would try accuracy games too." And sometimes loose an eyebrow in the process.
She watched Zhenya balance a few cards, then she picked up a couple of her own. "Mind if I try?" Balancing two, right next to the Slytherin's little tower, she put a third on top. So far, so good... and no explosions yet. But the anticipation was so exciting. "Maybe we can balance a few more on top of that." She stepped back to see if Zhenya wanted to try, then took a quick glance around the rest of the class to see if maybe they should be moving on. She did want to give them plenty of time to finish their work for today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once the students had a little bit of time to try out some of the games that she had brought for them, it was time to move on. Nessa knew that many of them might not be finished, but they weren’t here merely to play games, this was just one part of the lesson in order to help them start brainstorming. “Okay, everyone!” she called out, getting their attention with a single clap of her hands. “Finish up what you are currently doing, we are moving on to the next part of our lesson today.” She gave them another minute or two to finish whoever’s turn it was, and then turned to address the class again.
“Alright, I hope with the earlier discussion and now trying out a few games we are all in the proper mindset. I want you to think about what makes a good game that people want to play. Is it the excitement factor, how fun something is, how easy or challenging it is? Or something else? I want you to create your own game. Of course it should have some sort of magical element in it too, whether it is something similar to what some of your classmates have said earlier, taking something mundane and injecting magic to make it more exciting, or something different entirely that never existed in a mundane form.” Did she even need to tell them this being that they were witches and wizards? Given the many muggle-type answers she had gotten previously, she felt it was best to be safe and add that suggestion.
“Now, you can certainly use some components of the games that you have been playing… But I’ve also included many other supplies with which you can use to experiment and add to create your game.” She uncovered the rest of the boxes that she had at the front of the room and sent them to sit next to the other boxes they had gotten into earlier. “Break up into small groups if you’d like, two to four people, or you can work alone. Solitary games are important too. When you are finished creating your game, I want you to describe it and maybe even give a little demonstration.” If they needed a few people to play it to demonstrate it, that was fine. And she was even a willing participant if they were to need someone to play with.
Box contents include:
Self-shuffling cards
Wizard trading cards (chocolate frog cards)
Prank gobstones (instead of squirting foul-smelling goo, they spray a substance that causes the target to sprout a beard and mustache)
OOC - You can use whatever you'd like to create your game, including any of the contents listed above or anything that was offered to use in the first activity or a combination from both boxes. You will have a little more than 48 hours from this post to complete this. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
Angel was just finishing setting them up when the Professor spoke about going onto the next part, why was it that it went so fast, it just didn't seem fair. "We can have a quick game if you want." Angel really wanted to try it before they went onto the next part since it was already.
Angel then heard what the Professor said. "Hey why don't we work together on creating a game as well." Angel hoped that things would work out, she was just sad that this lesson was going by so fast.
Marsha giggled, nodding her head. ”How about a quick game, or five minutes whichever happens first.” you know, just in case the game was harder than they gave it credit for and they were REALLY bad at it. After all,there were obstacles to go around to get to the skittles and she wasn’t sure how good her aim was going to bed.
”I believe you get 10 balls each, and we keep count of who knocks down the most… Or do you want to try ten times in a row to knock down all of the skittles, then we can reset the skittles and I’ll try? Whoever knocks them all down with the least amount of balls wins?” She had no idea what she was doing… but those seemed like the most logical ways to play this. Right?
”Either way, you can go first.” She grinned at Angel and stood back a little to give her space.
Awh, man! They had to finish off their games now. Just when Adi had been having even more fun with the Bishop and its sass. Oh, well. "You're my partner again, Benny." Not a question. Nope. If the Lion wanted to work with someone else, that would be fine with him though.
Ushering all the chess pieces together so that they could be put away, Adi stood up to bound over to the box to see what they could use for their game. Benny was behind him, right? "What's this?" It was the prank Gobstones and the first thing that caught his eyes. The Hufflepuff read what they did from the container they were in. OOOooh! PRANK Gobstones! Yes, yes, YES!
"These. Must. Use. These.'' He showed Benny the Gobstones. Already the wheels were turning in his head. "I've got some ideas but let's hear you've got , Benny.'' That way, they could talk it over and decide how they could use their materials together. In the meanwhile, he would sort through the rest of stuff. But the Gobstones... the precious Gobstones. The fact that they were pranking ones was even better.
Marsha giggled, nodding her head. ”How about a quick game, or five minutes whichever happens first.” you know, just in case the game was harder than they gave it credit for and they were REALLY bad at it. Angel smiled at Marsha, "lets have a quick game." Angel really wanted to give this a go, she looked at the skittles that were all set up and then she grabbed a ball and rolled it.
*smash*
Angel giggled as she hit one of the skittle and it knocked a couple more down, she knew she was a bit off with that aim.
"I took 3 out with that one." Angel went and picked them up, setting them upright so that her partner could have a go at the game.
Zhenya had forgotten about the memory games. They were fun too. Her Babushka used to play with them, too. She would arrange them and play a game she called solitaire, challenging herself to finish before it exploded. She almost always did finish it, her clever Babushka.
Zhenya watched in anticipation as Professor Glendower had a go at building onto the house of cards, and exhaled once she saw that a) it hadn't fallen down and b) it hadn't exploded. Zhenya put a few more cards on top then went to try and build it up again, just as Professor Glendower addressed the class. It was time to pack up, so Zhenya carefully put all the cards back where they came from.
Part two of the activity was to create another game. Zhenya listened as Professor Glendower explained it to the class, and she only had to think about it for a few moments until she knew what she wanted to do. In all of her study the past few months, how could she come up with anything else? A TRIVIA game! She would have different headings, after the subjects at Hogwarts, with questions relating to that subject. She would do a board for it, little player tokens, and trivia cards.
Zhenya went over to the box to have a look. She pulled out a few different coloured pieces of cardboard, some butterbeer caps, some yarn, and some different colours of pens and pencils to decorate the cards with, and she placed the items onto the desk. Now, brainstorm session. She pulled out her quill, ink and parchment and wrote 'Wizarding Trivia' and made different headings; Potions, Herbology, History of Magic... etc.
Lux was stacking more cards in place when Professor Glendower announced that they would be moving on to the next part of the lesson.
Awww.
They hadn't finished making the house yet, but that was okay because creating a game of their own sounded like fun! Lux wondered what hers would be about. Maybe she could work with someone on it... Kace was probably going to do his with Emmy so she would leave them to it.
Heading over to the box, she saw Zhenya setting things up at her desk. Looked like she had something fun planned. "Do you want to work together?" she asked her.
Marsha nodded her head, grinning at Angel. ”Sure.” She watched as Angel took up a stance and rolled her balls towards the skittles. Three! Marsha clapped, giggling as Angel watched the skittles fall over more just from the impact. ”Well done!” She said, giggle!grinning.
Marsha bounded to the pile of balls that they had left to the side of the skittles and then moved to the front of their section. Leaning down slightly (she was short, she didn’t have that far to go) she rolled the ball towards the skittles and watched as it slid through two of the obstacles, hit one skittle which fell sideways and took a second with it, and then it rolled towards the wall, bouncing.
”I got two…” Marsha smiled, looking at the course and wondering what the technique was to get more skittles down with a single ball. Laughing, she sighed. ”You win! Congratulations.”
Grinning, she looked at the boxes that the Professor had just uncovered. ”Do you want to use the skittles in out game? Or we could make another game? There is a muggle game called Cluedo? My Granda has a really old muggle version that keeps getting handed down… There is a variety of rooms, and 6 possible killers and about 8 different weapons and you need to try and solve the murder? Maybe we could make a magical version? The Welsh girl looked at the fourth year and waited to hear her thoughts.
Marsha had no REAL idea… but any ideas and options and opinions were good… Right?
The three of them were just starting to really get a good game going when the professor called their attention. Awww man. AJ was having such a good time, and she had only been able to catch the ball once. "Maybe we can borrow these brooms and have another game sometime," she said to her new friends. One could hope anyways.
Back on the ground, she focused her attention once more on the professor. Awesome! They were going to be creating their own game. She was trying really hard to pay attention, but her eyes kepe glancing to the box. What was she going to do?
Once they were given the okay to start, she raced over to the box and rummaged around in it. There were so many cool things that her mind was all over the place. Fanged frisbees were going to be used. No, the self shuffling cards. No. Ahhh. So many cool things and so little time. Could she create a game cool enough to use EVERY single thing in the box. Maybe. In fact she was pretty sure that she could. The problem would be having enough time.
AJ sucked in air. She needed to gather her thoughts and focus. This was something that was pretty hard for her. The best game ever... coming right up.
Here's to sassy chess pieces. Hehe.
"You seem to know a whole lot more than I do,'' the Hufflepuff remarked as Benny's knight took off.
There was a scoff from Adi's sassy bishop. "You're both dunderheads.''
"Hey! He's not a dunderhead! Watch yourself or else I'm going to put Silencio on you for the rest of your life.'' No one was going to insult his best friend in front of him. He waved his wand threateningly at the bishop.
"Right. Rook, forward to A5.'' He eyed the Bishop. "Did I get that right?''
"Yes, Rooks can move as far as they like forward.''
Hehe. The poor Bishop was obviously afraid of the Silencing Charm. It sounded a bit sulky in its tiny voice.
Someone didn't want to be silenced...or put back into the box by them if it continued. However unfortunately Professor Glendower was moving them onto the main activity. "Sorry..." Maybe they could leave them out for a bit before locking them away in darkness and borrow the set after class.
As for him and Adi remaining partners for the game creating, Benny was down with that. "Sure..." he remarked to confirm his blessing on the idea. Now they just had to figure out what kind of game they would make and with what. The Gryffindor was right behind his bestie as they moved to discover what sort of supplies they had at their disposal. "You would pick those," he half-teased the Hufflepuff. Prank and gobstones...two things that were strong in the other boy's vocabulary.
Having his own look in the supplies, he grabbed for one of the large pieces of cardboard. "How about a board game?" he questioned, trying to think of how to work with the wizarding marbles. Or at least the goo from them. "Maybe something like chutes and ladders?" His cousins had had that game when they were growing up.
Of course he knew him so well. Despite their blow-up earlier in the term, they were pretty good at reading each other. And usually on the same page with their thoughts...for the most part. Like how Adi agreed with the board game part of the plan and Benny in turn, nodded in agreement to the Hufflepuff's thoughts on the matter.
Alright...moving chutes and ladders. It did make sense that they emulate the characteristics of the wizarding games. They had been reminded this wasn't a Muggle Studies lesson earlier in the class. "Oooo...how about Dragons and Hippogriffs?" he suggested, getting an idea that fit the two of them to a T. He grabbed some of the bottlecaps as he got inspiration. "Maybe see if these work like stones. and the gobstones work with the hippogriffs."
So their game was falling into place. At least thy both had awesome ideas but Benny's next one was the best yet Seriously, yo. The ideas that came out of his head were awesome!
"Great idea! If that doesn't say Wizarding Game, I dunno what will.'' Plus, it also said 'Adi and Benny, Benny and Adi'. The Huffie approved of this! But back to their ideas. "So, what's the best way to do this? You mean like transfiguring the caps into dragons and the stones into griffs? I dunno... the dragons might cause chaos with their firebreathing.''He winked but then Adi had another idea. "How about we set up the squares, draw colourful Dragons and Griffs then animate them? The Gobstones could be the little figurines that move along the squares so that way they can 'feel' when they go down a chute... or in this case, a dragon's stomach.'' Hehe. So Dragons and Hippogriffs it was.
Sounds good...or rather great in his opinion. And Adi was right whch got a nod of agreement from Benny. Definately sounded like it was a wizarding game. Muggles didn't exactly have either creature and as far as he knew weren't even ones to think of hippogriffs. Dragons at least were in their fantasy. "Well the caps into dragons. I dont know if the spell would work with the magic of the gobstones." It was like putting too much on it...right?
Although Adi had a seemingly better idea.
"I think I like yours better," Benny admitted, since it incorporated all that they wanted and made sense on top of it. "But um...you remember the animation spell for the drawings?" SInce he was otherwise occupied the class it was taught by the downfall that was Adi and Henric.
Adi could pretty much work around with any of their ideas but he was letting Benny take the lead on this. Wasn't he being such a good besite? Hehe. It was also because Benny always had these ideas but he rarely seemed to get them out because he talked so little.
"Of course I do,'' Adi said, now leading the Gryffindor back to their seat. "Why don't YOU remember it?" He was about to place the Gobstones down but he removed a yellow one, an idea plotting in his head. Casually, he aimed the Stone in Benny's direction. How did these things work anyway? The substance had done its job and his best friend now sported a nice looking beard and mustache. Adi sniggered. "Nice look, Benny. I thought dragons tended to be scaly not hairy.'' Cue more sniggering!
He was enjoying himself!
Okay, okay. Time to get back to work. Still grinning in amusement, Adi flopped back on his seat, pulling the cardboard so that it was between them. "Let's get started on the squares.''
The substance had done its job and his best friend now sported a nice looking beard and mustache. Adi sniggered. "Nice look, Benny. I thought dragons tended to be scaly not hairy.'' Cue more sniggering!
He was enjoying himself!
Okay, okay. Time to get back to work. Still grinning in amusement, Adi flopped back on his seat, pulling the cardboard so that it was between them. "Let's get started on the squares.''
Dare he tell?
There was the chance that it might bring up bad memories and negative feelings given the context of the answer. And as Benny moved with Adi back towards their seats with their supplies, the Gryffindor wasn't sure he wanted to delve into it. Besides...Adi said he knew the spell...so what did it really matter? Mulling the thought over, the sixth year wasn't paying attention to his friend. Nor the other boy's attention to the pranking gobstones.
"I was distrac---" he finally decided to answer, breaking off as he involuntarily reacted to the spray from the gobstone. Coming straight at him. His nose was suddenly itchy but not from the cobwebs for once and as he reached a hand up to rub it, he noticed the hair there. A mustache actually that sprouted from his upper lip beneath his nose...across the top of the lip...and actually hung off either side like some oriental dragon's facial fur.
It took him a moment, as Adi complimented his new look amidst his sniggering, to register the corresponding itchness on his chin. Benny moved both his hands there to feel what he couldn't see and found a beard. A long beard that fell away from his skin. There had to be four inches of dirty blonde hair there at least!
"At least we know they work...." was all he could think of saying. His nose twitching as he tried to adjust to the new facial hair. Never a dull moment with Adi.
Toby grabbed the ball out of the air as it sailed towards him. He had no idea if the ball had a gripping charm on it like quaffles usually did, so used BOTH hands to catch it. But just as he was getting ready to throw the ball back to AJ-...
"Aww."
It was time to stop. But... but flying! Toby had no idea when he'd next be able to get on a broom, and was most unwilling to dismount. BUT he wasn't really one to disobey a direct order (uhhh... most of the time, at least), so he came into land again. Bright side: at LEAST they'd been able to have the opportunity to fly! That was better than nothing, and he was very grateful.
"Oooh, maybe!" Toby said in response to AJ's question. Though, as a matter of fact, he actually had his own broom with him in his dormitory. Every single term he'd brought it along, just in case of an impromptu re-opening of the practice pitch and re-introduction of flying and Quidditch. But so far, the broom had remained in his dormitory, propped carefully up in a corner. It would have gathered dust were Toby not so obsessive about keeping it clean and serviced even though he wasn't flying it.
He returned his current broom as well as the ball back to the front of the class and re-took his seat, quite exhilarated and toeing the line between 'pumped up and ready to focus' and 'too buzzed to concentrate'. But he tried.
Right... so they were creating their OWN games. That shouldn't be too hard, especially for someone as fun-loving as Toby was. He smiled to himself and found a fresh piece of parchment, ready to start writing down his ideas.
...
He... uh...
............
... okay, this was harder than it sounded. Toby squinted at his blank parchment, trying to think of the most fun things possible (basically... flying came to mind first, swiftly followed by almost everything else in the world ever). Maybe this needed a more creative brain than his, or one that could concentrate better. Toby was already fidgeting around, itching to get back on that broom, and mentally yelling at himself that NO this was WORK TIME.
THINK THINK THINK.
Adi hadn't the foggiest idea what Benny had been about to say nor did he really think to much on it because his friend's new do was just too much. He couldn't stop sniggering and just kept side glancing at the other boy. "You look very mature.'' Not that Benny wasn't. He was the mature one in this friendship. Just look at what he had to put up with from Adi... all the pranks and jokes. All the little children stuff.
"How do they feel?" the Hufflepuff asked as he tapped their card board with his wand so that evenly spaced squares appeared on it. These squares were almost golden. Coooool! Adi hadn't focused much on the colour but he figured gold would be good since it would be easier to distinguish the squares from the Dragons and Hippogriffs colours.
There were a few more taps before Adi gave Benny his full attention again. This attention turned into more sniggers. "You look funny.'' Hehehe. Just look at the beard, yo! "Maybe you can draw a few dragons with beards,'' he teased.
AJ couldn't help but to smile when Toby almost agreed to her idea. Yeah, it wasn't a definite yes, but it wasn't a no either. She would take it. Sounded like a super fun time if you asked her. Why didn't they have a flying class again?
Okay. Okay. Okay... was what kept going on in her head. She had so many ideas and it was really hard trying to narrow down exactly what she wanted to do and OH MY GOODNESS was that trainers that would stick on the wall? That was happening. Some way and some how she was going to incorporate that into her game. For a few minutes AJ just kind of stared at the box and its contents. Biting her bottom lip, she thought about how best to go about this when a thought popped into her head.
OBSTACLE COURSE.
It wasn't going to be a lame one either. Nope. It was going to be SO cool, and she probably needed more people to get this done, but she was so pumped that she grabbed loads of cardboard and just as much craft supplies. She also snagged the sticky trainers and some of the trick gobstones because she thought she had an idea just where those babies would come in handy. In fact she took pretty much one of everything. This was going to be EPIC.
Marsha nodded her head, grinning at Angel. ”Sure.” She watched as Angel took up a stance and rolled her balls towards the skittles. Three! Marsha clapped, giggling as Angel watched the skittles fall over more just from the impact. ”Well done!” She said, giggle!grinning.
Marsha bounded to the pile of balls that they had left to the side of the skittles and then moved to the front of their section. Leaning down slightly (she was short, she didn’t have that far to go) she rolled the ball towards the skittles and watched as it slid through two of the obstacles, hit one skittle which fell sideways and took a second with it, and then it rolled towards the wall, bouncing.
”I got two…” Marsha smiled, looking at the course and wondering what the technique was to get more skittles down with a single ball. Laughing, she sighed. ”You win! Congratulations.”
Grinning, she looked at the boxes that the Professor had just uncovered. ”Do you want to use the skittles in out game? Or we could make another game? There is a muggle game called Cluedo? My Granda has a really old muggle version that keeps getting handed down… There is a variety of rooms, and 6 possible killers and about 8 different weapons and you need to try and solve the murder? Maybe we could make a magical version? The Welsh girl looked at the fourth year and waited to hear her thoughts.
Marsha had no REAL idea… but any ideas and options and opinions were good… Right?
Angel looked at Marsha and smiled. "That's great, you were amazing." Angel giggled. She was sure that the game was great and fun and now she had to figure things out about the game.
"I've heard of that game, we used to play it at home, we played that and Monopoly loads of times." Angel then had an idea. "We could do something involving them both if you want?" Angel hoped that... that was okay.
Awww.
They hadn't finished making the house yet, but that was okay because creating a game of their own sounded like fun! Lux wondered what hers would be about. Maybe she could work with someone on it... Kace was probably going to do his with Emmy so she would leave them to it.
Heading over to the box, she saw Zhenya setting things up at her desk. Looked like she had something fun planned. "Do you want to work together?" she asked her.
Zhenya was still trying to brainstorm for different questions and designs for the card when Lux came up and asked if they wanted to work together. Zhenya smiled, "Sure thing! I thought I might have a go at making a trivia game. I was going to design a board where people could move to different numbers on the board and depending on where they landed they have to pick up a trivia card. If they get it right, they move forward and if they get it wrong they have to go back." She picked up the butterbeer caps "I thought these could make do as the character tokens." That's about all she had come up with so far. "Sort of like those muggle games where you roll a dice and move up the board to try and get to the end first. What do you think?" Zhenya asked with a smile. Maybe Lux would have a few ideas on how to improve it.
Hehe, awesome. She had a partner.
Taking a seat at Zhenya's desk, Lux listened carefully as the game idea was explained to her. "Oh, that sounds like fun!" Trivia can be really interesting and they could make some that involve history; that would make Professor Glendower happy.
Picking up one of the butterbeer caps, she had an idea. "How about we make them into each of the House colours so that there is a red one, a blue one, a yellow one, and a green one?" Colours were pretty and this would give her a chance to practice the colour changing spell some more. Using Colovaria, each piece in turn was changed to one of the House colours. "That good?" If Zhenya had a better idea they could change the butterbeer caps in some other way.
"And as far as the game board, how about we make it into a cool shape? Like a magical creature or something." Lux's vote was for mermaid.
Benny couldn't help rolling his eyes as Adi continued to snicker at his new appearance. Yeah, he saw those looks that kept coming his way from his friend as the Hufflepuff went to work on the board. He just hoped not too many people also noticed ths changes because red skin didn't go well with the added facial hair. At least he didn't have to age entirely for it to happen like the last beard he had sported.
How did it feel?
"Itchy..." he mused making another face as he fought the urge to either rub or scratch the two areas of his skin. Was this what it normally felt like? Or part of the effects of the charm of the gobstones and the spray? The Gryffindor just shook his head and switched his attention instead to the golden squares now present on the board.
Ugg...the moving beard just made it weirder.
Pushing through, he picked up his quill and started numbering the squares. That way it was easier to see the direction one had to go and reminded him of the original game. Having a thought he acted quickly with his quill still in hand, he drew a simple mustache on his friend's face. "Now you're the funny one."
They were to create their own game. How interesting was that? While she played with the wizard skittles, the thought had crossed her mind. If she were to create a game what would it be like? It would involve action; she was a sucker for that. Most definitely have to do with dragons. Something competitive.
Putting the game back, she paused, tapping her chin as she studied the contents in the box. What she had in mind would require her to get creative, and thank Merlin she had that.
Filling her arms with figurines and such, she headed back to her desk. First. She needed to create the platform. A circular one. Using her wand, she took a large piece of cardboard from her stash, and got working on it.
