It was one of those days, it was clearly the end of winter, but it wasn't quite warm enough to be considered spring or summer. On your way to Greenhouse Three you stomp and slush through muddy puddles where the grass has grown thin and the dirt is exposed. The sky overhead is cloudy but the chances of rain are slim. No.. what the sky does hold is hope for the warmer days to come.
Inside Greenhouse Three you find that the Busy Bee had been rather successful. Everything was neat and orderly, even if there were no plants in here as yet. So why would Bentley be holding a lesson in an empty Greenhouse? Hhhmmm I wonder.
The focus of the Greenhouse is on the long raised flowerbed that runs down the middle of the space. Empty plant hangers swing slightly from the ceiling as a chilly breeze drifts through.
Professor Bentley isn't here yet, but she won't be long.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do NOT announce your late arrival unless you want to lose points. Just pretend as if you were there all along. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
Erin felt so much excited than ever. They were finally bursting their puffapod seeds and she'll be seeing a wonderful view of a pink flower. And mind everybody who sees, Erin dropped that one.
Moving towards the floor part of the Greenhouse, Erin grabbed a stool and jumped up on it. Why was she the short type of person? Blame her Mummy! She sat hugging her knee to achieve the five feet height. Holding it slightly above her head, the fragile part of the seed facing down, the pod was dropped to the floor.
In an instant, a beautiful flower of pink bloomed from the pod. It was truly magical.
Janice who apparently was exactly 5 feet high, held her purple seed in front of her, her hand the same height of the top of head. Then she dropped it, and it grew into a flowery plant with purple markings on its petals. She smiled to herself, despite of Egg being so annoying.

Ooooh..There were blooming flowers around her, and they all looked very spectacular. Even the ones that bloomed from the orange pods looked pretty to her even if she did not like that color. At the time she was almost surrounded, a wide grin was on her lips.
Now, for my turn. She thought.
The problem is..how do I stand to be five foot high? Beatrice looked around to see if there were anything she could use that could possibly boost up her height. Then she saw Erin standing on a stool. Great idea! She then found a stool for herself and stepped on it. She carefully held the puffapod seed on her little hands, making sure that they were facing the correct direction and then, with a little blow from her mouth, she let go of the seed on her hand.
She stared closely as it fell and then...PREEEETTTTYYYYY! Her wide grin had turned into a very big smile, "Professor, look!" Oh.Forgive the little girl. She just wanted to share her accomplishment.

Indy watched with big eyes as all the other students dropped their seeds onto the floor. They were all SO pretty. This was totally the best lesson ever. She would have to compliment the professor on such an amazing lesson later. But right now she really wanted to make her seed bloom. It was pretty, and orange, and she was looking forward to seeing what it looked like when she dropped it. Now she had to do it from a height of 5 feet, and she knew she was little. So there was no way that she was 5 foot high. But some poeple were standing on stools. So she figured that would work. Placing her puffapod seed on the desk, she climbed onto her stool gently. Eep. it was high up here.
Picking her seed back up, she smiled, before dropping it on the floor. Ooh look! It had hit the floor, and bloomed. "Ooh...so pretty." She was in awe.

So they had to drop it from five feet. Selina stared at her orange puffapod and sighed. She was five feet tall. That meant she was going to have to hold it to the top of her head and drop it. How degrading. Selina knew she was short, but it was kind of embarrassing have to have to hold it over her head to make sure the whole experiment actually worked.
Her hand lifted in the air just next to the top of her head and she dropped the seed and the flower bloomed. But at what cost? Her dignity was shot. Alas the life of a short person.

Minerva found a chair and stood up on it. She put her hand out in front of her making sure she had the right side facing down and let go. As it fell she watched in excitement. Once it hit the ground the seed bloomed. "How pretty" she thought.
Ashley looked around, wondering if it would be okay if he just held it above his head and stood on his toes. But he was pretty sure that still wouldn't be five feet, which was just embarrassing. It looked like it was mostly only the girls who had to stand on stools, so he really didn't want to have to. Still, the thing had to be dropped from a certain height, or it might not work. Pressing his lips together in determination, trying to seem nonchalant and cool about the whole thing, he went to get a stool and climb up onto it, crouching down since he wasn't so far under five feet that he'd have to stand upright on the stool to reach it.
Once he figured he was holding the seed at the height he'd seen the professor demonstrate, he dropped it, making sure the seed opened and bloomed properly before immediately climbing down, trying hard to pretend he and the stool had absolutely nothing to do with one another.

Victoria took her purple seed and held it high, about level to leve with her nose. that should be about five feet. Carefully not to put any force into the drop, Victoria let her fingers loosen on the grip. Slowly, the seed fell out of her hand and dropped to the ground.
Oooh...! The blossomed seed looked so pretty!
Victoria admired the pretty seed, and waited for the next instruction.

5 feet...
That was the approximate height they were to drop it from for the seed to burst properly according to his classmates and confirmed by Professor Bentley. Gideon was tall enough though only by about 6 inches so not quite to the top of his head...perhaps his nose to be on the safe side.
After watching a few of his fellow students attempt and most succeed at the venture, the fourth year picked up his own puffapod. An orange one he had retrieved at the professor's instruction in the earlier step. Stepping back from the work area Gideon raised it in his hold until he could see it straight on in his vision before dropping it to the ground of the greenhouse, the pod obediantly blooming to a firey blossum.
Success! he mused bending down and gingerly picking it up off the ground. The Gryffindor ready and patiently waiting for their next instructions.

Reason: fixing coding
"Not a problem," she replied moving on and taking a look at all the preeeetttyyy puffapods.
On her rounds, she overheard Stella's question, her ears pricking up just in time. "Oh good question!" she exclaimed excitedly.
"See it comes down to efficiency, the reason why five feet is the recommended height is because this is when we have the most control over the direction of the seed. From a lower height the force may be inadequate, however from a greater height we no longer have as much control over the seeds movement and thats when it can flip and turn and not land on the right spot. At five feet the downforce and the aerodynamics of the seed keep it falling on target."
Yup.. five feet. Remember that everyone.
Seren continued to wander around inhaling the sweet fragrence of the puffapods as she went. This was quite possibly her favourite lesson of the term.
OOC: ANNOUNCEMENT:This class is officially on hold for the time being until the 'virus' threat concerning google chrome has passed. So you have plenty of time to get involved and participate. If you didn't get to collect your seed in the previous part of the lesson just pretend that you did (;
At this stage I will probably post again on Sunday 2-3am GMT (unless something else happens).
Nessie held her puffpod about neck height and dropped it. There was a sudden burst and a flower emerged from the pod. Nessie got down on her knees and observed it. Nessie smiled at it but didn't dare touch it.
Salima held the seed rather gentily at the hard end when it almoset slipped from her hands, but luckily she caught it in time and held it five feet in the air and let go; she watched it as the seed dropped and transformed into a flower. 'THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE!' she shouted smiling akwardly at the students who were staring at her like shae was som sort of freak.

Once she had collected her pink puffapod seed (as this was her favorite color), Kourtney returned to her place and awaited further instructions...which came rather soon. Okay, so....she would definitely need a chair for this. Holding her seed carefully, she clambered up onto a stool and carefully kneeled on the hard surface.
Holding the seed at the required level, she turned it to that it so that the fragile end was down. Okay...five feet...drop it onto the floor....Her fingers relaxed and the seed fell to the floor. Bloom!!
Kourtney peered excitedly in a downward direction and grinned. How pretty! She carefully climbed down the stool and bent down closer to the exposed plant. A pleasant smell wafted past. Mmmm.
Minerva found a chair and stood up on it. She put her hand out in front of her making sure she had the right side facing down and let go. As it fell she watched in excitement. Once it hit the ground the seed bloomed. "How pretty" she thought.
William looks at his pirple puffapod that is open. He looks at Minerva. She looks cute just like the purple puffapod.

Kurumi held the puffapod in her hand and examined its color a bit more. It was strange that she had picked purple when, well, this particular shade was one that she hated looking at in the mirror every morning. Yet, something within the young Gryffindor had changed recently and her confidence was slowly building in SOME areas. She found it almost ironic that August had told her that he admired her confidence since, well, she never thought of herself as a confident person - and Jonathan was always telling her that she should be.
She turned her head towards Jonathan and sort of smiled, but it was more of an awkward hey-look-at-me-trying-to-be-confident sort of smile. "Hey, it matches the color of my eyes," she chirped softly, waving the little seed at him.
Not really waiting for him to respond, Kurumi went around the table to an open space and held the puffapod high above her head. Wait...that was a little too tall, right? She wasn't the tallest of Gryffindors, so she really didn't need to hold it up that high...somewhere around her nose should do, right? Softly, Kurumi let go of the puffapod and watched it as it feel to the ground and...it bounced out of the way before rolling to a stop at Jonathan's feet.
Oh. Obviously not high enough.
Blushing, Kurumi scrambled on all fours and reached under the table for her puffapod before scrambling back out and standing up again. No one..saw that...right? She peeked a glance at Joanthan. She was supposed to be the one that was good at Herbology. He could tease her about it later if he had to.
Holding the puffapod now at a height equal to her head, Kurumi dropped it and followed the purple seed as it feel to the ground and....YAY! Almost better than fireworks. Flowers in bright oranges, blues, pinks, and purples exploded around her feet and she couldn't help but perform a somewhat girlish turn to take it all in.
Already the best class ever.
Could she drop another?

Seren grinned brightly, tempted to clap her hands together in excitement, it was so good to see the students getting excited about Herbology. It really was the best a pretty good subject.
"Ok now that you all have your seeds you are going to burst them. So remember what we discussed... you need to hold it approximately five feet high. If you cannot reach that height then feel free to stand on a stool or grab a bucket... or something." She didn't care how they achieved their height, just so long as they did. "For this lesson I will ask you not to levitate your seed, just because I'd prefer a more hands on approach." Honestly why wouldn't you want to drop it yourself?
"Make sure you hold the seed by the thicker, harder end with the fragile perimeter facing down... the harder part of the seed does not crack open, this is why it's so important that you hit the seed on the fragile perimeter, otherwise the seed will just be damaged."
"DO NOT throw your seed! the force of the natural drop will be enough to achieve the results, there is no need to risk the life of that seed for your own amusement."
If she caught ANYBODY throwing or ditching their seed at the ground they would be in strife... serious strife. She'd likely THROW them into detention... or the lake... depending on how generous she was feeling.

Lillian grabbed an orange puffapod. "Gosh! I'm so excited!!!"
She went back to her spot and did as Professor Bentley has said. She held the puffapod in front of her and dropped it.
POOF!!!
The orange puffapod blossomed beautifully. "Woah!!!" Lillian exclaimed, completely blown away. "Er, it looks a bit like a daisy. But it's beautiful! Gorgeous, actually!!!"

"I do hope you've listened to your peers responses as well, they raised some particularly important points which I'm not going to repeat." She glanced at Josh briefly before scanning the rest of the class.
"Now, we know that the impact is an important part of the process, can anybody tell me what height the seed should be dropped from in order for it to crack on impact effectively?"
Sierra got lost in thought for a few moments while she thought about the answer to the question. She knew it was somewhere close to her actual height (which was 5'2"), but she couldn't remember if it was supposed to be five feet or six feet. An annoyed expression crept across her face as she mentally struggled with the answer. People around her were calling out answers left and right, so Sierra tried to block them out while she came up with her own answer. In the end, she decided that since five feet was a little closer to her height than six feet was, she'd go with that response. "Is it five feet?" she suggested, her hand raised.
...but just as she spoke up, the professor moved on, causing Sierra to lower her hand and frown.

So five feet is the most efficient height to drop a puffapod. Now you can achieve the same results from a greater or lower height... but the efficiency decreases, and this could result in a damaged seed simply from the impact not being hard enough to crack the perimeter or simply because the force was too great but the angle wasn't and so the body of the seed gets damaged but it doesn't crack and therefore the puffapod does not bloom."
Seren stared at the students. It looked as though a number of them were about to leap out of their chairs and claim a seed. Mmm it was probably time to distribute them. But how? Should she go around and hand them out? let them select their own? Or simply place the box in the centre of the greenhouse and let them loose on the seeds. Perhaps a little pushing and shoving would be involved?... Because Seren certainly knew that when she was a student if there was a particular colour she wanted, then she would get it... no if's or but's about it.
Hhhmm.. yes, the students could fend for themselves. "Alright everyone, come up and grab yourself a puffapod seed of your choice. DO NOT push and shove... too much.... and DO NOT under any circumstances burst your seed yet!"
She stood back from the box, letting it sit on the workspace at the front of the raised flower bed.
Err, ...right.
Sierra was, in no way, about to trouble herself just to fight over some blasted seed. She had a feeling that if she sat back long enough and waited for all the girly girls to get their seed, all the pink and purple ones would be gone. Orange was the color she was aiming for. It was less 'I'm so girly girl' and more 'this will do'. She rolled her eyes at a few students scrambling over one another. Really? ...over a seed?
It wasn't like the professor was handing out galleons or phials of Felix Felicis. When the crowd had settled, Sierra simply rose from her seat and walked without any troubles up to the box. She peered into it and grinned when she saw the number of orange seeds left. Thank you, girly girls, for contributing to the fact that I got just what I wanted without putting up any effort to get it.
She grabbed an orange seed then sat back down.

Seeing as Sierra was only five feet two inches, she didn't have to estimate too much to figure out where five feet was. She stood to her height and then held out the seed two inches shorter than the top of her head. There. That should be five feet...ish. She turned the seed, so that she was holding the thicker, harder end with the fragile part facing down.
She started to throw her seed to the ground but stopped when she heard, at the last second, not to do it that way. Hmm. So maybe she was going to learn something from Bentley today. Sierra eyed the woman, remembering how giving she'd been at the beginning of the term. She wondered if the professor had made anymore cakes lately...
Turning back to her seed, Sierra opened her hand, releasing the seed to the ground and causing it to burst into a puffapod.

After making the rounds through thr greenhouse and observing the students burst their seeds (which was rather exciting even for her), Seren then made her way back to the front of the long raised flowerbed they were working around.
"Well done everyone!" she said clapping her hands together. Brilliant stuff. Now they were surrounded by pretty colours instead of drab browns and greys. "Now, our task today is to plant the puffapods into this raised flowerbed," she said indicating the long raised structure before them. "First thing first, you will need to collect your items from the stores cupboard. You will need a spade, gloves if you didn't bring your own and Hippogriff dung fertilizer." ... oh and their wands... but they'd be silly not to bring those, so it wasn't worth mentioning.
She stared at the students. Well what were they waiting for? "Go on... get them and bring them back."

D'awww..True, they were surrounded by pretty things. So colorful and attractive things..
Oh, plant? They were going to plant? As in dig a hole and such? Well that was interesting.. Other students will surely not like the mud and soil. She would rather enjoyed seeing their faces. And of course, she would focus on her task first.
AS Professor Bentley stared and asked what they were waiting for, the other students started stalking off. With that, Beatrice walked over to the cupboard and took a spade and gloves for she did not bring such. Then she grabbed a packet of Hippogriff dung fertilizer on her way outside. Eurgh..dung. Very........
Oh, well. They would need that fertilizer even if she didn't like its smell.
Aiden turned her attention to the professor addressing the class. Gladly, she didn't get distracted by the beauty of the puffapods all around the greenhouse floor. Without wasting any time, Aiden walked towards the stor, retrieving a spade and Hippogriff dung fertiliser. Wasn't Hippogriff dung was the most expensive fertiliser?
Kennedy's eyes lingered around at all of the pods being dropped and then burst just like his did. He should really consider getting his mom some of these since she was always complaining about her plants not growing fast enough.
His attention was torn away from the plants when Professor Bentley began to speak once more. Before retrieving the things he would be needing he took out his dragonhide gloves his cousin had given him for Christmas. He had his own now. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to put them on right now, but since he would be close to fertilizer he put them on. It was better to be prepared than sorry. After he had them on, he went to get a spade and the fertilizer and then came back to his spot.

Alyssa listened to the Professor's instructions before putting on her dragon hide gloves and making her way to the cupboard to pick up a spade and a bag of Hippogrigg dung fertilizer. 'Whew! this dung fertilizer sure doesn't smell as great as the Puffapods' Alyssa thought to herself as she made her way back to her flower and waited for further instructions.

There were so many colorful flowers surrounding the place now matched with happy faces of the students watching the beautiful view.
Now, as Professor Bentley had instructed, they needed to get moving in order to transfer the colorful puffapods into the raised flowerbed. Yay! Erin revived that one. Hehe.
Making her way through the cupboard, Erin looked for a spade and some Hippogriff dung fertilizer. She had gloves of course.
