| | Warner Brothers respond to fan disappointment
Warner Brothers have today sent us a statement from Alan Horn, President, Chief Operating Officer in response to the disappointment of fans following the announcement of the Half-Blood Prince release date change. Quote:
Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

I see their point with the whole two-year gap, but they wouldn't have to worry about disappointed fans if they set the date for Summer of 2009 in the first place or just sticking to the date they set before this new release date change.

| So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Pah. THAT was not an adequate response. It will probably make fans more angry. I agree with Zoe on this. That was excuses. Silly WB.

I guess there is a fair point to be made with the wait. When I think about it, all this may do is lead more time to build the anticipation for HBP. Though initially I was dissapointed with this descision, I now have to agree that this descision will be good for the Fans, and Warner Bros.

Yes, it will be two years between OOTP and HBP and only 18 months between HBP and the DH, part one. His "silver lining" sounds like some half-baked "fuzzy math" I would try on my kids if I had to...! Simply put, we've no choice but to wait....Warner Bros. KNOWs we arent going to boycott the movie!!! They can dink around with us, the movie going HP fans, because there isnt a single thing we can do about it!!

That's a pathetic excuse if you ask me. We had to wait quite a long time between other films, so why wouldn't we wait between HBP and DH part 1 if we had to? Now we only have a bigger gap between OotP and HBP, for goodness sake!
They should have just stuck to the schedule.

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

I see no problem with the date being pushed back. Personally, I'm happy about it. I kind of felt like November 08 was a little soon, anyway.

SS members' take on this is interesting. I personally believe that it doesnt do to be upset anymore, nothing we can do about it. The explanation of the time gap was very silly on the part of Warner Bros. as most of us can count out months on a calendar!! Ah well......

Can someone please get me a pair of waders? He's spewing so much bull excrement that I can't see my floor.
And considering the disappointment a fair amount of fans have also voiced with regards to the plotlines and characters that did not make the cut from book to movie, no, I would have to say it WON'T be worth the wait. Do these people think we have the collective IQ of an amoeba???? I hate it when these bigwigs talk to fans as if we're a bunch of children. If I lived close I would drive up to his house with a 20-pack load of toilet roll for the trees and a few dozen rotten eggs for the mailbox and cars. :hack:

I'm not surprised they're trying to use damage control, but I rather think this statement was a mistake.
There's just repetition of information rather than anything new, an apology unjustified by any reason which would explain the decision to people feeling unhappy (besides money, and of *course* money is part of the decision -- they're a business looking out for their returns).
Upset fans who have been following the story closely won't likely be appeased by this. Either WB should have issued something more substantive, or it should have kept quiet on this front.

That's a poor excuse. The real reason was the fact they didn't have any espectacular movie for 2009 and they were going to lose money. It is just about the monie not the gap between the two movies. He should just say the things as they are instead of creating excuses no one is going to believe

It's just plain wrong for them to jerk our chains like this and blatantly state they want to suck every penny out of our pockets and that's why they're doing this - I don't think it has anything to do with the writer's strike, a company just doesn't suddenly realize months and months after a strike like that, that they're short on a bunch of movies and will be "hurting" if they don't do something like this - especially not if they are a multi-million dollar company. No. This is nothing short of a hostage-like blackmail scheme for better publicity (which I'm inclined to believe is more negative than positive, thankfully). Also, the notion that Harry Potter fans will like Harry Potter any more or less in the Winter versus the Summer is absolutely ridiculous. I, and I'm sure many other of the millions of fans out there, would go to see this movie and the other one's two parts no matter what it took, maybe even multiple times - that is, for me, until now. So their theory of making more money just because of a season change is total, illogical hogwash!
And as for that almost slap-in-the-face comment by the whoever quoted there, what's to keep them from postponing the last film by two years each to achieve the same supposed "better turn outs"? Hmm? They don't seem to really give a hoot about the fans now, so I'm going to assume that they won't then either and will NOT think twice about pulling the same stunt a couple more times to try and get all they can out of us - if this works this time. There's NO respect for the fans left, so they feel they can do whatever they want without ANY interest or thought for their fanbase at all, despite "crocodile comments" stating otherwise.
Anyway, I seriously hope this endeavor crashes and burns in their faces. I really do. And I am still going to boycott the movie's theatrical release, just on principle - I don't care how much it will hurt me to do it, but I am.
BTW, dude, him saying that he's already seen the movie and that "it was great!" is NOT something someone should say to a bunch of really irritated Harry Potter fans after having just tarnished their hopes to see it too in just under three months after waiting for it for such a long, long time, am I right? Like seriously, at the very least have some tact! *Breathes* [/Rant]

And yet they still give us weak excuses for what they did...I get the whole 2-year gap, but I don't think I would've minded that...

mmmm....I dont know what to say, we already know this and it seems like excuses....I mean we'd waited more between other movies...
May be if they just established the date on July for the beginnig we wouldn't have this trouble....
Sorry WB...but you really dissapointed me.....I appreciate your answer, but it didn't convince me....it wasn't the correct one.........try again, sorry WB
