Video: Evanna Lynch talks Luna, Half-Blood Prince & her future
Evanna Lynch was interviewed about Half-Blood Prince and its romantic and dark themes, the evolution of her character, Luna Lovegood, and her future after Potter. The original interview, dubbed in Italian, and conducted in Milan, can be seen below, under which is an English translation.

Which scene was the most fun to shoot in the new Harry Potter movie?
All of the Luna scenes are quite funny because she's a down-to-earth character even though sometimes she comes up with witty things and with very accurate observations. She talks about strange animals and when everyone sees her they thing of her as strange and then when she talks not always people feel comfortable but what she says. Then I also like what she wears and the costumes are fantastic especially her accessories as everything is multicoloured. I really like the hat that I had to wear during the Quidditch scene and I also like that Luna in the scenes, she's always very comfortable while the people surrounding her aren't at all.
As her personality, I find her to be a very free and open minded girl. She doesn't judge people and accepts everything and this isn't because of ignorance and I don't think that she's crazy at all. It's just that she's honest, free and respects everyone's opinion.
Her character shows that innocence found in children that is lost by growing up and that is like that small voice in your head that in a sense disappears when growing up as it dissolves in the traditional world all around you, but she isn't like that, she doesn't try to conform with society. She's still a very smart and bright girl which I think is a perfect combination that is difficult to keep once one grows into an adult.
How do you see your future after Harry Potter?
I'm not sure about what I want to do for ever. I would like continue acting but for now I can say that I'm enjoying every moment that I have with all of these people and here I have the great opportunity to learn and at 17 I'm surrounded with people that I can learn from and I keep changing my mind every week about my career so we'll see.
And about my character, people think that I was stuck with this character, especially in the beginning when Luna was seen connected to the innocence which is difficult to see when one grows up but I could still interpret parts which are similar to Luna and I'm not preoccupied with prejudice and I would eventually accept the roles that I like which is the fundamental thing. I'm sure that I'm different than Luna as a character so if I choose to interpret a role it's because there's something that I like
Was there anything from the scenes that shocked you the most?
Not really, they add a few lines to lines which are present from the books which mostly highlight the peculiarities of Luna especially the fact that she's always talking about these strange creatures rather then emphasizing her wise character which are brought out through the observations that Harry Potter makes. This always remains below the surface of the movie but I was never shocked about the changes of my character in the screenplay. For the other characters, yes, for example I remember that Dumbledore made a comment about a waitress and this was something that surprised me and I thought that you surely wouldn't expect this comment coming out from the mouth of the wise Dumbledore but overall they're faithful to the books.
How will the romance in the movie affect the dark story?
I don't think it will as in the books there's this balance between the dark side and the Harry's quest to learn as much as he can on Lord Voldemort and his past and then there's this soft side, the romantic side where Harry is followed by Romilda Vane where he realizes that Ginny doesn't feel indifferent to him. So in this aspect I don't think that the movie isn't faithful to the book and Rowling in this book has painted it with comedy and she plays with the characters' emotions, otherwise the book would have been too dark and too heavy if there wasn't this continuing banter between Ron and Hermione.
OMG I love Evanna so much! My favorite character and Potter actress!
She knows her character very well...and she's a fan. Hey she's just like all of us ppl that are kinda critical of Dumbledore in the film. Though is seems she cant really voice it...
Love Luna...I mean Evanna. Lol. She's awesome! I cant wait to see her in HBP! I heard she actually designed the Gryffindor hat that she wears to the quidditch match!
I agree with her about Dumbledore. Sometimes, how he's portrayed in the films - like in GoF when he grabs Harry by the shoulders and asks him if he entered his name in the cup - shock me. Dumbledore's supposed to be serene and calm.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of Evanna's, but she really understands Luna and she's a great person to portray her, so I'm fine with that.
Really nice to hear more from Evanna! And it's great how she has the nerve to sort of criticise the films about the whole Dumbledore thing.
The way I see it is that Richard Harriss' Dumbledore is the character from the books, and Michael Gambon's is almost a completely different character exclusively for the films.
