While promoting the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies this month, actor Martin Freeman admitted that he was a bit upset he was never asked to take part in the Harry Potter films. Freeman, who plays Bilbo Baggins in the series, admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that it was his children's interest in the series that made him wish, after all, that he was cast in the saga.
Quote:
Jimmy Fallon: We were joking backstage - you said you were a little upset that you were not in the Harry Potter films.
Martin Freeman: For a long time I was one of seven British actors who was not in Harry Potter. So I would see these all these films come out like, 'Yeah, yeah, Harry Potter.'
So I was already an adult by the time they were coming out, so I didn't quite get their appeal. I hadn't read the books, and it was only when I became a dad, my children started being interested in them. I thought, 'Oh, no, these are great, and they're fun, and I love watching them as a family thing.'
But yeah, for a long time it was just me and six other people staring through the window like orphans in a Dickens' book.
