| | Jamie Waylett sentenced with community service
Actor Jamie Waylett (Vincent Crabbe) has been sentenced with 120 hours unpaid community service by Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, England, after being found guilty of growing ten cannabis plants at his mother's house. Quote:
Sentencing him, District Judge Timothy Workman said: "Mr Waylett, I accept that the cultivation of this cannabis was on a small scale, and this was not in any way a commercial venture on your part.
"Nevertheless you used a sophisticated growing system to do so.
"I give you credit for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity, your co-operation with police and the fact that you are, until now, a man of good character."
Quote:
Leaving the court, Waylett said: "I extend my sincere apologies to the producers, cast and crew and all at Warners and most especially to all Harry Potter fans."
Quote:
Speaking for Innis and Waylett, solicitor Cheryl Rudden said: "If I may emphasise that they are both extremely sorry and remorseful for what they have done and certainly would seek to be setting an example."

I know that these are mainly children's movies, and that they are to be setting examples for the kids. But, in my thinking, they are still grown ups now, and I dont believe that we should be putting these things up for the young ones to read.... This is (and should be) An adults only type of story.... Sorry guys, I know, I am the stupid American with the double stupid opinions.... But this is a drug related offense, and I wouldn't tell my kids about it... I love Harry Potter, and all the cast and what not, but this is a bit much for kids.....

And, quite frankly, anyone who knows what the term cannibis refers to, probably isn't too young to read about this.
To be fair, for months we have refrained from reporting on this situation, waiting instead until sentencing was announced, as we didn't find it relevant until we knew whether or not it would affect Deathly Hallows filming. That said, plus the fact that Jamie Waylett made a public apology to Warner Bros and Potter fans alike, makes the story worth reporting in our opinion.

Great Success!
But I hope he has learned from his mistakes ^^"
It´s a good thing he apologized to the fandom, so I think we can all forgive him, plus he was very cooperative and stuff (by the sounds of it), so I think he usually is a very honest and good guy! |

Well, community service is better than prison.
And atleast he wasn't selling it or anything.
I think he'll be fine with community servie, plus 120
hours is only ... 96 days? That's not soooo bad. |

Hm, I suppose it's a fair sentence. And really, I don't care if this was posted here. No matter how old the kids who read this are, they're going to grow up and learn about drugs; it's a fact of life. Their parents just have to make sure that they teach them that no, it's not good, and Jamie Waylett got off fairly easy and he could have easily gone to jail. Parents need to teach their kids this stuff. It's nice to know that he apologizd to everyone, and pleaded guilty at the first possible moment.
Otherwise, I'm glad it won't interfere with the DH filming.

Actually I think it is a good idea to state what people do wrong so kids learn from others' mistakes.

Actually doesn't this kind of make him fit the role more. Let's face it Crabbe isn't the sharpest tack in the box.

Has he been allowed to keep his job then? I'm a bit surprised, soap opera actors have lost their jobs for less.

i think the judge was lenient to be honest i am suprised he wasnt made an example off because he has young fans. i hope he realises what he has done.
personaly community service is nothing.. and he will get something releated to his career, working with children or something

Well he was certainly an idiot for doing it in the first place. He's lucky to just get away with community service, they could have easily made an example of him cos people would know who he is.
And I hope he really is sorry and doesn't do it again!

He got off? ... The thing is, he shouldn't have, and he didn't really becausehe still got community service, which still goes into your crimial record, i think.
I agree with the rest of your comment though, he didn't go running round denying it. Quote:

ironic that it's a Slytherin xD Only if you don't include Robert Knox's death, it is.
I read about it in the paper, and I was quite suprised, but then I just thought, Why am I ? he's a normal person, and this is what (some) normal people do these days.
I'm just glad he got any sentence, because it means the Magistrates didn't give him any special treatment.

hmm... I was wondering if SS would post this story. I found out about it on the 14th and was kind of hoping SS wouldn't post it. It kind of puts a damper on the Harry Potter franchise as a whole.
I'm glad the judge let Waylett off easy, but then again the subject isn't anything an adult or child should take easily.
If any children hear about this, they should bring it up with their parents so they can be taught why it's wrong.
Nevertheless, Thank you SS for keeping up with ALL the news relating to HP. It's why I've been coming to this site since 2003.

The police don't determine sentences. Quote:

Personally? Yes. But that's neither here nor there. We just want to report the facts Quote:

Like Laurie said, we wanted to wait until a conclusion was reached, before saying anything. But we were never going to ignore the matter entirely. That would be patronising, I think.
