J.K. Rowling and practically every Harry Potter actor on social media commented on their shock and devastation over the death of Alan Rickman, who died after a long battle with cancer this week.

Such nice tributes. This is very sad news. I hate it that cancer still kills and we've yet to find cures - I am a breast cancer survivor and would love to see a world with cancer survivors and no deaths.

I just can't believe this. Alan was such a talented actor - and he WAS Snape. There was simply no other man for the job. I'm devastated. Such a terrible loss to a terrible disease. RIP

i heard of his passing just as my day was winding down. Shock gave way to sadness which gave way to exhaustion. the following morning, i was still depressed. you know news hits you bad when not even sleep could make it better.
at least his suffering is over. no more pain. just peace.
